[0031] The present disclosure relates to an electret condenser microphone (ECM) , comprising: a case comprising a case bottom and a circumferential wall, wherein the case is configured for grounding; a PCB assembly, comprising a PCB substrate having a top side and a bottom side; a diaphragm and a back plate, wherein the back plate is electrically conductive  and communicatively connected to the PCB assembly; wherein the PCB assembly, the diaphragm and the back plate are arranged in the case, and contacts for connecting to a power supply are arranged on the top side of the PCB substrate, and a field effect transistor is arranged on the bottom side of the PCB substrate, and wherein a shielding layer is arranged between the top side and the bottom side to eliminate power frequency interference.

[0032] Electret condenser microphone consists of a back plate as a stationary or static plate and a very light diaphragm as a moving plate that includes an electret material, wherein a permanent charge has been implanted in the electret material to provide polarizing voltage. The principle of operation is that sound waves impinging on the diaphragm cause the capacitance between it and the back plate to change synchronously, this in turn induces an AC voltage on the back plate. The induced AC electrical signal is transmitted to the PCB assembly. Field effect transistors (FETs) are used as impedance converter. According to the prior design of the ECM, FETs have limited gain, are susceptible to noise and require additional components external to the ECM cartridge for biasing and amplification.

[0033] Compared to the prior-designs of the electret condenser microphone, according to the embodiments of the present disclosure, a metal shielding layer is arranged between the top side and bottom side of the PCB substrate, thereby eliminating the interference caused by power frequency. As a result, FETs arranged on the bottom side of the PCB substrate are protected from the power frequency interference.

[0034] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the shielding layer is embedded in the PCB substrate. That is, the shielding layer is encapsulated in the PCB substrate.

[0035] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the shielding layer comprises a metal layer.

[0036] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the metal layer comprises a copper foil layer. Of course, other suitable metal foils can be considered as the shielding layer.

[0037] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, a first connecting edge is arranged on the top side of the PCB substrate, wherein the first connecting edge is connected to the case, thereby eliminating power frequency interference. To this end,  an upper edge of the circumferential wall of the case is curved towards the PCB substrate, thereby forming a rolled edge portion, wherein the rolled edge portion is in contact with the first connecting edge on the top side of the PCB substrate, thereby providing a conductive connection between the case and the PCB assembly.

[0038] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, a second connecting edge is arranged on the bottom side of the PCB substrate, wherein the second connecting edge is configured to be arranged at least partially around the field effect transistor and conductive and communicatively connected to the back plate. In order to achieve this aim, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, a conductor ring is arranged between an upper surface of the back plate and the bottom side of the PCB substrate, wherein an upper end of the conductor ring is in contact with the second connecting edge and the lower end thereof is in contact with the back plate, thereby providing a conductive and communicatively connection between the PCB assembly and the back plate.

[0039] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the back plate is electrically isolated with respect to the case and the diaphragm, respectively. In order to achieve this aim, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, an insulating ring is arranged between an outer circumferential surface of the back plate and an inner surface of the circumferential wall of the case, thereby electrically insulating the back plate with respect to the case. According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, a spacer is arranged between a lower surface of the back plate and an upper surface of the diaphragm, thereby electrically insulating the back plate with respect to the diaphragm.

[0040] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the spacer has a thickness of several micrometers. This choice of thickness for the spacer realizes a compactness while ensuring functional stability.

[0041] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the back plate comprises at least two through portions.

[0042] Compared to the prior-designed back plate having only one through portion, according to the present disclosure, a plurality of the through portions are provided in the back plate as openings for damping reduction. As a result, better shielding against power frequency is realized.

[0043] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the field effect transistor is configured with an internal filter circuit.

[0044] In addition, another aspect of the present disclosure relates to a headset device comprising the above-mentioned electret condenser microphone.

[0045] FIG. 1 schematically illustrates an exploded view of the electret condenser microphone 1000 according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. The electret condenser microphone 1000 comprises a case 10, a diaphragm 30, a back plate 40 arranged in the case 10, wherein a spacer 50 is arranged between the diaphragm 30 and the back plate 40. The diaphragm 30 may be constructed as a thin diaphragm (e.g., made of plastic) , and the back plate 40 is configured with a metal foil deposited on a side thereof in contact with the case 10. After being electrified by a high-voltage electric field, an anisotropic charge imports on each of the two sides of the back plate 40. A side of the back plate 40 without the metal foil is separated from the diaphragm 30 by the spacer 50. As a result, a capacitor device is formed by the diaphragm 30, the spacer 50 and the back plate 40.

[0046] In addition, a PCB assembly 20 is arranged in the case 10. As shown in FIG. 1-FIG. 3, the PCB assembly 20 comprises a disc-shaped PCB substrate 22, which has a top side 22a facing outwardly and a bottom side 22b facing an interior of the case 10 in an assembled state of the electret condenser microphone. On the top side 22a of the PCB substrate 22 is provided contacts 282 constructed as welding pads for connecting to a power supply, while a field effect transistor 284, at least one condenser, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 3 two condensers, namely a first condenser 286a and a second condenser 286b are arranged on the bottom side 22b of the PCB substrate 22.

[0047] The case 10 consists of metal, for example it could be made of copper, and is constructed for grounding. The case 10 is constructed substantially cylindrically and comprises a circular case bottom 102 and a circumferential wall 104 extending from the case bottom 102. In the center of the case bottom 102 is provided a central hole of bottom 102a, through which sound waves are transmitted into the case 10 from the outside and further transmitted to the diaphragm 30 arranged on the case bottom 102. In addition, a dust cover 80 is arranged on the case bottom 102 from the outside of the case 10. The dust cover 80 is usually made of microporous grids, fabrics or other materials and includes a large number of mesh holes, which  prevent foreign matter in the environment, such as dust, water vapor, particulate from entering the sensitive components in the case 10 through the central hole of bottom 102a, but not significantly hindering the transmission of the sound waves. Of course, in embodiments not shown, the dust cover 80 may also be arranged on the bottom surface 102 of the housing from inside the housing 10.

[0048] The sound waves entering the case 10 from the outside impact the diaphragm 30, which results in a synchronized change in capacitance between the diaphragm 30 and the back plate 40, this in turn induces an AC voltage on the back plate 40. The induced AC electrical signal is transmitted to the PCB assembly 20, wherein the field effect transistors arranged on the bottom side 22b of the PCB substrate 22 are used as impedance converters.

[0049] However, during charging, there are parasitic capacitors between the human body and the power line, and between the device and the power line, and the interference is coupled into the field effect transistor through the condensers, then an unpleasant hum noise will be generated.

[0050] In order to eliminate the power frequency interference, a shielding layer 24 is arranged between the top side 22a and the bottom side 22b of the PCB substrate 22. According to the embodiment, the shielding layer 24 could be constructed as a copper foil layer. In other embodiments not shown, however, the shielding layer 24 may also be constructed as a thin layer made of other metals.

[0051] In order to further eliminate power frequency interference, the field effect transistor is provided with internal filter circuit and lower current.

[0052] In particular, as shown in FIG. 2, the copper foil layer as a shielding layer 24 is embedded in the PCB substrate 22, in other words, the copper foil layer is encapsulated between the top side 22a and the bottom side 22b of the PCB substrate 22. As a result, interference caused by the power frequency during charging is shielded, leaving the FETs unaffected.

[0053] In addition, a first connecting edge 26a is arranged on the top side 22a of the substrate 22, which is constructed for grounding of the PCB substrate 22. As shown in FIGS 1 and 2, the first connecting edge 26a is segmentally constructed and arranged at least partially around edge of the top side 22a of the PCB substrate 22. However, in embodiments not shown,  the first connecting edge 26a may also be arranged completely around edge of the top side 22a. Accordingly, an upper edge of the circumferential wall 104 of the case 10 is curved towards the PCB substrate 22 to form the rolled edge portion 106. Therefore, the rolled edge portion 106 is in contact with the first connecting edge 26a on the top side 22a of the PCB substrate 22, thereby providing a conductive connection between the case 10 and the PCB assembly 20, and consequently providing a grounding of the PCB substrate 22.

[0054] The back plate 40 is constructed as a substantially disc-shaped, wherein a plurality of through portions as openings for damping reduction are provided in the back plate 40. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, the back plate 40 comprises a first through portion 40a in the center thereof, a second through portion 40b and a third through portion 40c at the edge of the back plate 40. In the present embodiment, the first through portion 40a is constructed circularly, while the second through portion 40b and the third through portion 40c are constructed with a bottom surface shape different from that of the first through portion 40a, which are constructed as openings extending from the edge of the back plate 40 towards the center thereof. In the case where a plurality of openings for damping reduction are provided, the cross-sectional area of each of the through portions is significantly smaller as compared to prior art designs where only one opening is provided. Of course, in embodiments not shown, a different number, such as four, five or more smaller through portions may also be provided in the back plate 40.

[0055] To realize an electrically conductive and communicative connection between the back plate 40 and the PCB assembly 20, a conductor ring 60 is provided, which is arranged between the rear pole plate 40 and the PCB substrate 22. To ensure a reliable connection effect, a second connecting edge 26b is arranged on the bottom side 22b of the PCB substrate 22. As shown in FIG. 3, the second connecting edge 26b is segmentally constructed and arranged at least partially around the field effect transistor 284 on the bottom side 22b of the PCB substrate 22. However, in embodiments not shown, the second connecting edge 26b may also be arranged completely around the field effect transistor 284. An upper end of the conductor ring 60 is in contact with the second connecting edge 26b, and the lower end thereof is in contact with an upper surface of the back plate 40, thereby providing an electrically conductive and communicative connection between the PCB assembly 20 and the back plate 40.

[0056] As previously described, the capacitor device formed by the diaphragm 30, the spacer 50 and the back plate 40 is capable of converting an acoustic wave into an electrical signal, wherein the diaphragm 30 is contacted to the case 10 for grounding and the electrode plate 40 shall be insulated with respect to the case 10. To this end, the back plate 40 is sized in such a way that it is slightly smaller than the diaphragm 30. In particular, as shown in FIG. 5, an outer peripheral surface of the diaphragm 30 is electrically conductive connected to an inner surface of the circumferential wall 104 of the case 10 for grounding. In addition, the spacer 50 arranged between the back plate 40 and the diaphragm 30 is convex with respect to the back plate 40, wherein an insulating ring 70 is arranged on the spacer 50. The insulating ring 70 could be made of plastic. The insulating ring 70 is radially disposed between an outer circumferential surface of the back plate 40 and the inner surface of the circumferential wall 104 of the case 10, thereby electrically insulating the back plate 40 with respect to the case 10.
