Window sill with removable air duct Field of technology

[0001] This invention relates to a window sill used as an element of energy-saving ventilation systems, which provides natural or forced air circulation between the room and the street through a removable, internal element of its design, adapted for maintenance and use in northern climatic zones. State of the art

[0002] The prior art includes inventions that provide ventilation through the window sill and the lower portion of the window opening. Document DE1876688U describes a window with an integrated ventilation duct. Disadvantages of this system include the need for a special window design and the inability to service the ventilation duct. Document DE20204163U1 describes a ventilation module installed under a window sill, door, or window. Disadvantages of this system include the inability to service the duct without dismantling the window sill and the need to install such a module before installing the window in the opening, as well as the lack of thermal insulation for the duct and valve. The closest analog is the invention described in document DE102007001871A1, namely a window sill for air conditioning a room, equipped with a duct and fan.The disadvantages of this system include the inability to maintain the air duct, the lack of thermal insulation between the window sill body and the air passing through, and the lack of thermal insulation on the ventilation grille used as a valve. Therefore, the objective of the present invention is to create a window sill that addresses the problems of prior art technical solutions related to maintaining ventilation ducts and providing thermal insulation for use as an element of an energy-efficient ventilation system adapted to northern climates. The essence of the invention

[0003] This invention is a window sill adapted for use in northern climate zones, as an element of an energy-saving ventilation system, providing the possibility of natural or forced air circulation between the room and the street through an internal removable air duct.

[0004] In one version, the window sill has a controlled valve with a design that provides thermal insulation.

[0005] In one version, the internal window sill air duct is removable with an opening top cover, allowing the user to remove the air duct towards the room and open it for cleaning or maintenance.

[0006] In one version, the inner walls of the air duct are covered with a material that provides thermal insulation and, in combination with its surface profile, isolates noise coming from the street.

[0007] In one version, the air duct is equipped with a mosquito net.

[0008] In one version, the air duct is equipped with a filter.

[0009] In one version, the air duct is equipped with a check valve.

[0010] In one embodiment, the window sill has two or more air ducts to provide the organization of several ventilation channels between the room and the street, functioning simultaneously for the same or different purposes.

[0011] In one option, a fan can be installed in the ventilation duct.

[0012] In one embodiment, additional pipes can be connected to the air duct opening on the street side to ensure that air passes through the gap under the window frame, usually filled with construction foam, to connect to the cavity under the street window sill.

[0013] In one option, when using one of the air ducts to exhaust air from the room, pipes can be connected to it from the street side to transfer air to the upper part of the window opening in order to provide a difference in height between the inflow and outflow of air to implement the natural circulation mode.

[0014] In one embodiment, pipes can be connected to the window sill ventilation duct outlet on the room side to use the ventilation duct in combination with other ventilation and air conditioning devices located in the room, for example, in the option of using it with a floor-standing air conditioner.

[0015] In one of the options, when installing several air ducts inside, the window sill can be equipped with an internal recuperator.

[0016] In one version, the window sill can be equipped with various sensors and a controller to automatically control the ventilation duct parameters.

[0017] In one version, the lower surface of the window sill is angled towards the room to ensure that any possible condensation flows towards the room.

[0018] The present invention proposes a window sill as an element of an energy-saving ventilation system adapted for use in northern climates. It provides natural or forced air circulation between the room and the outside through an internal removable duct and a controlled valve. The volume of air entering or leaving the room is regulated by a controlled valve that closes the passage to the outlet at the bottom of the window sill, in an area close to the radiator.

[0026] This invention is a window sill as a ventilation system element, enabling natural and forced air circulation between indoors and outdoors through an internal ventilation duct with a controlled valve and a removable, extendable air duct. This window sill with a ventilation duct provides adjustable airflow between indoors and outdoors, providing filtration and noise insulation. The invention's appearance is similar to that of a conventional indoor window sill and eliminates the need for visible ventilation components on the outdoor side, thus preserving the appearance of the building's façade. Thermal insulation throughout the entire ventilation duct, including the duct and controlled valve, allows the window sill to be used in northern climates. As is well known, various particles enter ventilation ducts along with the air, polluting the indoor air and settling on components located within the ducts. For this reason, ventilation systems require regular and qualified maintenance, which users don't always undertake due to the complexity and expense of the work. A window sill with a removable air duct significantly simplifies and reduces the cost of installing and maintaining a ventilation duct.

[0027] The image shows a vertical cross-section of a window sill, showing a ventilation duct configuration within the window sill housing 1. For simplicity, the window sill is shown providing airflow into the room with removable air duct 3 in its basic configuration, without its internal components. The direction of airflow from the outside into the room is indicated by arrows. Outside air enters the rear section of the window sill, which is typically installed flush with the opening under the window frame. The voids are typically filled with foam. An opening is provided in the rear section of the window sill through which air enters removable air duct 3 and, passing along it, descends through an opening in the lower section of the duct into a cavity containing a controlled valve located in the overhanging section of the window sill.In this embodiment, the valve is slightly open, allowing air to pass freely between the outer 15 and inner 16 walls of the valve. Outdoor air then ultimately enters the room through the opening in the lower, overhanging portion of window sill 1. A perspective view of the window sill from the room is shown, showing removable air duct 3 partially extended from window sill 1 through the opening provided in the front of window sill 2. Thus, the air duct can be completely removed and cleaned by the user using household methods, including a dishwasher. Separate internal components of removable air duct 3 are provided to protect the room from noise, dust, and insects coming with the outdoor air. To clearly depict the internal components, a perspective view of air duct 3 is shown from the room with the lid 4 flaps open. When using duct 3 to supply air to a room, air coming from outside through duct inlet 5 strikes insect screens 6. The air then moves along the duct's internal surfaces, which in one embodiment are coated with heat- and sound-insulating material 8 with a profile that prevents noise transmission. A check valve 9 is located in the central section of the duct, preventing air flow through duct 3 from reversing. In this embodiment, it prevents air from leaving the room through duct 3. Filter 11 is shown positioned in front of opening 10 at the bottom of duct 3. Air passes through opening 10 and enters the controlled valve, bypassing it and passing through an opening in the lower overhanging portion of the window sill, from where it ultimately enters the room. A perspective view of the central section of the controlled valve 13 is shown. The central part has cylindrical inner walls 16 and two longitudinal openings formed between them in the upper and lower parts of the valve for the passage of air therethrough. The central part of the controlled valve 13 is located within the cavity formed by the cylindrical outer walls 15 of the window sill housing 1, as shown in . Due to the fact that the centers of the circles forming the cylindrical inner 16 and outer 15 walls are located at the same point, the central part 13 can rotate about its axis. By turning the handle 14, shown in , the user rotates the central part of the controlled valve 13, thereby changing the gap between the inner 16 and outer 15 walls of the valve, and thus regulates the volume of air passing through the valve. The front part of the window sill 2, shown in , and the bottom of the overhanging part of the window sill 18, shown in , have slots for rotation and access to the handle 14.Thus, the opening in the lower overhanging portion of window sill 18 can be closed, opened fully, or partially, as needed to maintain a comfortable indoor climate. To prevent condensation or ice from forming on the walls of the controlled valve when closed in freezing weather, the controlled valve is designed with a lock chamber. When the valve is closed, a closed air space is formed between the outer 16 and inner 15 walls, separating wall 16, located in the upper position and exposed to outside air, from wall 16, currently located below and exposed to indoor air. A perspective view of window sill 1 from the street below is shown, showing the attached pipes 12 required to connect the air duct to the space beneath the external window sill. A window sill with a removable air duct is installed on the lower portion of the window opening in the same manner as a conventional window sill. The rear section of window sill 17 rests against the opening under the window frame, where window frame brackets are typically installed, after which the remaining voids in this opening are filled with foam. To accommodate the opening under the window, the nozzles 12 are low-profile and can be positioned differently depending on the installation location of the window frame bracket. Therefore, to ensure the supply of outside air to the duct, simply cut the foam in the voids under the already installed window frame and insert nozzles 12 into the openings. The figures above show a variant of using the duct for air supply to the room; a removable duct designed for air exhaust can function similarly. The window sill design can incorporate multiple ducts with different functions, for example, for both exhaust and intake.

[0028] For the sake of brevity and clarity, the basic operating mode of a window sill with a removable air duct has been described above. A skilled professional will recognize that the use of this invention as a whole or its individual components is not limited to the capabilities described above.
