[0029] FIG. l is a schematic diagram of a veil prostate electrode (sometimes referred to herein as an electrode assembly) in accordance with certain embodiments. Among other things, the veil prostate electrode includes an electrode base that is shaped to lay over the top of the prostate (e.g., including a recessed or concave portion to allow the electrode base to lay over the top of the prostate). Other shapes may be possible, e.g., a curved or flexible shape that contours even more closely to the shape of the prostate. Various electrodes and corresponding wires / traces are embedded in the electrode base, with the electrodes placed at appropriate locations for interfacing with the prostate such as in a grid arrangement (which, in this example, includes two rows of electrodes on each side of the electrode base). The electrode base of one embodiment is formed of silicone (which, for example, can have a thickness from around 0.3 mm to around 0.7 mm based on customer specifications or other considerations), although alternative embodiments may be formed of other appropriate materials. Since the silicone material or other electrode base material may be flexible, this embodiment also includes one or more forming structures (e.g., wires) to add shape stability, e.g., to maintain the electrode base in a pre-configured or user configurable shape. In this example, each electrode that is embedded in the silicone is around 1-2 mm in diameter and the inter-electrode distance is around 2 -3 mm (center to center) based on customer specifications or other considerations. Each electrode has a very fine wire, and in this example the wires are bundled into a wire bundle cable (which may be shielded) that extends out the top of the electrode base. In this example, the wire bundle cable is around 2.5 ft long, but can be made longer or shorter based on customer specifications or other considerations. In this example, electrode leads (not shown) would extend from the electrodes via two legs extending from the bottoms of the side portions of the OR grid and end in a 4-5 ft ribbon cable that goes to a connection, although other configurations are possible (e.g., the electrode leads could extend from the top portion via one or more legs with the bottom legs omitted). In this example, the OR grid is approximately 3.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide and is made of a soft silicone-type material that is 0.4 mm thick, although other dimensions and materials may be used in various alternative embodiments. Embodiments may include stiffeners or shaping flexures (e.g., one or more metal liners allowing the user to bend the OR grid into a desired shape that is retained by the shaping flexures) such as embedded in or attached onto the OR grid material (e.g., the grid substrate could be formed from two layers of material with components such as stiffeners, shaping flexures, electrodes, and / or electrode leads sandwiched between the two layers, or the grid substrate could be molded around such components).
