Description

[0001] Connecting device for connecting exhibition stand profiles

[0002] Field of the invention

[0003] The present invention relates to the field of modular constructions, and more particularly to techniques for connecting exhibition stand profiles in temporary wall constructions.

[0004] In order to make stands, for instance promotional stands, as used at trade fairs, exhibitions, events and so on use is often made of frames, in this case also referred to as exhibition stand elements, which are mutually connected by means of connecting elements.

[0005] The exhibition stand elements are constructed from exhibition stand profiles as for instance shown in US2017218995A1, EP3580409A1 or EP4421256A1.

[0006] Many connecting elements used for connecting the exhibition stand elements are locking pins or bolts which are arranged through passages in the profiles provided for this purpose, and as such form the connection between mutually abutting profiles of the exhibition stand elements. Figure 3 of EP4421256A1 for instance shows a connecting element for connecting the exhibition stand elements.

[0007] Time is extremely limited during construction of stands. Construction must be quick, considering the strict deadlines. There is therefore a need for connecting elements which allow for quicker and simpler connection of exhibition stand elements to each other.

[0008] EP4306812A1 describes a connector which attempts to improve the known bolts or locking pins. Extensive tests have however shown that - due to the complexity of the connector - the connector is not able to connect exhibition stand elements to each other any more quickly or simply. On the contrary, due to the complex mechanism the connector is slower to connect than the connecting elements known from EP4421256A1.

[0009] A further requirement of connecting elements is that they are robust. Particularly as, at the end of the trade fair, the exhibition stand must be disassembled again. Disassembly is also done under time pressure. During disassembly the connecting elements are often thrown carelessly into a storage bin from a distance due to the time pressure. The connecting elements known from EP4421256A1 are robust and are able to withstand being handled roughly in this way. The connector described in EP4306812A1 is however susceptible to damage, the head piece thus for instance has a tendency to break off, making the connector unusable. Summary of the invention

[0010] Embodiments of the invention have the object of providing a connecting device which allows exhibition stand elements to be connected to each other more quickly and simply in improved manner.

[0011] This object is achieved by, according to a first aspect, providing a connecting device for connecting at least one first exhibition stand profile to at least one second exhibition stand profile in a temporary modular wall construction. [0033] The connecting device preferably further comprises at least one positioning element which is configured to position the connecting device at least in a first holder position relative to the holder. When the at least one positioning element positions the connecting device in the at least one first holder position, the connecting device is more preferably in the at least one uncoupling position relative to the at least one first exhibition stand profile. The at least one positioning element is more preferably movable between a recessed position and a protruding position, wherein in the recessed position the positioning element is recessed at least partially in the body so that the holder can move substantially freely over the positioning element, and wherein in the protruding position the positioning element protrudes relative to the body and fixes the holder in the at least one first holder position.

[0034] The holder is preferably provided with a first recess which is configured to receive the at least one positioning element, in the protruding position, in order to fix the holder in the at least one first holder position.

[0035] The connecting device is preferably further provided with a second actuator which is configured to move the at least one positioning element between the recessed position and the protruding position.

[0036] At least two positioning elements are preferably provided, each of which is movable between a recessed position and a protruding position, and which are preferably arranged on either side of the body. The second actuator is more preferably configured to move the at least two positioning elements between the recessed position and the protruding position.

[0037] The at least one positioning element is preferably configured to position the connecting device at least in a second holder position relative to the holder.

[0038] When the at least one positioning element positions the connecting device in the second holder position, the connecting device is preferably in the second coupling position relative to the at least one first exhibition stand profile. In the second coupling position the holder more preferably forms the first clamping surface.

[0065] The same or similar elements are designated in the drawings with the same reference numerals.

[0066] Figure 1 shows a side view of an assembly of two exhibition stand profiles 100A and 100B and a connecting device 200 which connects the two exhibition stand profiles 100A, 100B. A connecting device 200 can be understood to mean a device which is used to connect two or more exhibition stand profiles to each other in a modular or temporary structure. In the context of this invention the connecting device 200 extends wholly or only partially through the exhibition stand profiles 100A, 100B in order to connect these exhibition stand profiles 100A, 100B to each other. The connecting device 200 is thus prevented from extending outside a visible surface of the exhibition stand profiles 100A, 100B and realizing an unsightly appearance of the stand used with the exhibition stand profiles 100A, 100B. Figure 2 shows an exemplary embodiment wherein the connecting device 200 extends wholly through both exhibition stand profiles.

[0067] Figure 3 shows a section 100 of an exemplary embodiment of the exhibition stand profiles 100A, 100B shown in figures 1 and 2. The exhibition stand profile 100 is discussed first below. The exhibition stand profile 100 is a profile that is configured for construction of an exhibition stand frame. Such exhibition stand frames are used as promotional stands, for instance at trade fairs, exhibitions, indoor and / or outdoor events. The exhibition stand profile 100 is also shown in figures 1, 2, 4, 5 and 11, inter alia. Figure 4 shows an alternative exemplary embodiment of an exhibition stand profile 100C. The exhibition stand profile 100 has a first side wall 101, a second side wall 102 and at least a third side wall 103. As shown in figure 3, the first side wall 101 and the second side wall 102 are located opposite each other. The first and second side walls 101, 102 are preferably substantially parallel to each other. The first side wall 101 and the second side wall are preferably substantially flat walls. It is noted that an indentation or recess can be made in the first or the second side wall. The third side wall 103 forms a connection between the first side wall 101 and the second side wall 102. The third side wall 103 preferably extends in substantially perpendicular direction relative to the first and second side wall 101, 102. A fourth side wall 104 can also be provided. The fourth side wall 104 also forms a connection between the first side wall and the second side wall. A rectangular profile is formed in this way. The third and fourth side wall can form slots or grooves for attachment of further elements, a cloth can for instance be secured in a groove or a velcro strip can be secured in a slot. Exhibition stand profile 100 is further provided with a first passage 120 extending through the exhibition stand profile 100. The passage 120 is illustrated in figure 1 by the broken line. Passage 120 extends from a first opening 121 in the first side wall 101 to a second opening 122 in the second side wall 102. A plurality of passages can be provided in one exhibition stand profile, as shown in figure 3. The plurality of passages are distributed as seen in a longitudinal direction of exhibition stand profile 100. The plurality of passages 100 are preferably located at an equal centre-to-centre distance from each other.

[0068] Passage 120 is provided for placing a connecting element 200 therethrough, as shown in figure 3, in order to connect the exhibition stand profile 100 to another exhibition stand profile 100’ when constructing a stand. A connecting device need not necessarily be arranged through each passage of the plurality of passages.

[0069] Figure 4 shows an alternative exemplary embodiment of an exhibition stand profile 100C which is connected to an exhibition stand profile 100 A as shown in figure 3 or 5. The exhibition stand profile 100C also comprises an opening through which the connecting device can extend.

[0070] Both figures 4 and 5 show that the connecting device 200 extends only partially through the second exhibition stand profile 100B or 100C. The connecting device 200 in figures 4 and 5 is shorter than the connecting device 200 shown in figures 1 , 2 and 11.

[0071] Figures 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 show views of exemplary embodiments of the connecting device

[0072] 200. The figures show a connecting device 200. The connecting device 200 comprises a body 210 which is configured to extend through the openings 121, 122 of the first and second exhibition stand profiles (shown in figures 1, 4, 5 and 11, for example). A body 210 can be understood to mean the part of the connecting device 200 forming the base structure. An advantage hereof is that the body 210 enables a stable and firm connection between the exhibition stand profiles. Having the body extend through the openings enables a direct and strong connection to be realized, this increasing the stability of the construction. Provision can be made for the body 210 to be elongate. Elongate can be understood to mean a form that is longer in one direction than in the other.

[0073] The connecting device 200 further comprises at least one protrusion 220 which extends from the body 210 so that the protrusion 220 defines a first clamping surface 221. A protrusion can be understood to mean a part that protrudes outward from body 210. An advantage hereof is that the protrusion 220 provides a fixed point for clamping the exhibition stand profiles, as will be further elucidated, this enhancing the simplicity and speed of assembly. The first clamping surface 221 ensures that the exhibition stand profiles can be held firmly in place, this increasing the reliability of the connection. The protrusion can be formed integrally with the body from one piece of material. The protrusion can also form part of for instance a holder 300, as will be further elucidated.

[0074] The connecting device 200 comprises a clamping mechanism 230 comprising at least one clamping element 231 which is movable between a retracted position and a clamping position. The clamping mechanism 230 can be understood to mean a mechanism that exerts pressure on the exhibition stand profiles in order to hold the exhibition stand profiles together. A clamping element can be understood to mean a part of the clamping mechanism 230 that actually exerts the clamping force on the exhibition stand profiles. The clamping mechanism makes the at least one clamping element 231 move between a retracted position and a clamping position. In the retracted position the at least one clamping element 231 is at least partially retracted inside an outer surface of the body 210. Figures 6 and 9 show the connecting device 200 with clamping element 231 in the retracted position. In the clamping position the at least one clamping element 231 extends outside the outer surface of the body 210 and so defines a second clamping surface which is directed toward the first clamping surface. Figures 1, 2, 7, 8 and 10 and 11 show the connecting device 200 with clamping element 231 in the clamping position. An advantage hereof is that the clamping mechanism provides flexibility in connecting of the profiles, resulting in faster and more efficient installation. In the retracted position the connecting device 200 is insertable through at least one of the openings of the exhibition stand profiles, as shown in figures 2 and 11, for example. In the clamping position the clamping element ensures that the profiles are firmly held, this increasing the structural integrity of the stand. The connecting device 200 further comprises a first actuator configured to move the at least one clamping element 231 between the retracted position and the clamping position. A first actuator can be understood to mean a mechanism that enables movement of the clamping element. An advantage of this arrangement is that the first actuator enables a quick and simple transition between the positions of the clamping element, this considerably increasing the speed of assembly. Bringing the clamping element into the clamping position realizes a firm and reliable connection between the profiles, this improving the efficiency of construction and dismantling of the stand.

[0075] Such a connecting device allows two exhibition stand profiles to be connected to each other in extremely simple manner. The connecting device 200 thus need only be inserted through the openings of the exhibition stand profiles in the retracted position. The first clamping surface can then strike against a side wall, for instance the first wall 101 of the exhibition stand profile 200 through which the connecting device 200 extends. The at least one clamping element 231 can then move to the clamping position by moving the first actuator 240. The clamping element 231 then moves from the retracted position to the clamping position, in which the clamping element 231 extends outside the outer surface of the body and can engage on the wall of the second exhibition stand profile with the second clamping surface. The first actuator then allows pressure to be exerted via clamping element 231 on the two exhibition stand profiles by urging the at least one clamping element in the direction of the at least one protrusion. In this way the exhibition stand profiles are clamped and held against each other in one movement.

[0076] Figures 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 show that the body 210 can comprise a cavity and that the clamping mechanism 230 is accommodated at least partially in the cavity. A cavity can be understood to mean an internal space inside the body. An advantage hereof is that the clamping mechanism 230 is protected against external influences, this increasing the durability and reliability of the connecting device 200. Accommodating the clamping mechanism in the cavity also improves the overall compactness of the device, this contributing to a more efficient storage and transport of the exhibition stand elements.

[0077] Provision can be made for the body 210 to comprise a first outer end 211 and a second outer end 212, wherein the at least one protrusion 220 is provided at the position of the first outer end 211 and wherein the at least one clamping element 231 is configured to extend through an opening in the body 210. An outer end can be understood to mean the end point of an object, in this case the body. An opening can be understood to mean a passage or hole in a structure. An advantage hereof is that the protrusion 210 and the clamping element 231 are positioned strategically to offer an optimal clamping force. Arranging the opening at the second outer end transversely of a longitudinal axis of the body enables clearance to be created between the clamping element and the body in the clamping position. The clamping element thus moves partially in a direction of a longitudinal axis of the body. This is because the clamping element need thus not extend through a wall of the body, as is the case in known solutions, whereby the clamping element 231 can be pulled in the direction of the protrusion in order to thus enable a force to be exerted efficiently on the profiles.

[0078] Figures 4 and 5 show a situation in which the connecting device 200 is realized in a shortened embodiment. The shortened connecting device thus extends over a first distance. The first distance is the distance between the at least one protrusion 220 and the at least one clamping element in the clamping position. This first distance corresponds with a first distance between an outer side of the first side wall 101 A of the first exhibition stand profile 100 A and an inner side of the side wall 101C of the second exhibition stand profile 100C when the first exhibition stand profile and the second exhibition stand profile are arranged against each other. The first distance is thus determined substantially by the thickness of the side walls of the first exhibition stand profile and one of the side walls of the second exhibition stand profile. This is similar in a situation wherein the two exhibition stand profiles are the same type of exhibition stand profile as shown in figure 5. It is noted that, in figures 4 and 5, the protrusion 220 resting against the side walls of the exhibition stand profiles is formed by a holder 300 and not by the body 210. The holder is thus situated between the side walls of the exhibition stand profiles and the outer end of body 210.

[0079] Figures 1 , 2 and 11 show a situation in which the connecting device 200 is realized in a long embodiment. In the long embodiment the body 210 extends almost wholly through both the first and the second exhibition stand profile. The connecting device 200 thus extends over a considerably longer distance than the embodiment shown in figures 4 and 5. A distance between the at least one protrusion 220 and the at least one clamping element 231 in the clamping position thus corresponds with a distance between an outer side of the first side wall 101 A of the first exhibition stand profile and an outer side of a second side wall 102B of the second exhibition stand profile 100B when the first exhibition stand profile 100A and the second exhibition stand profile 100B are arranged against each other.

[0080] Figures 9 and 10 show a view of an exemplary embodiment of the connecting device in which the clamping mechanism is more clearly visible.

[0081] As shown in figures 9 and 10, provision can be made for the at least one clamping element 321 to be mounted pivotally in the body 210 and to be connected to the first actuator 240 by means of a connection 241 of the clamping mechanism. Pivotally can be understood to mean the option of rotating or moving around a fixed point. An advantage of this arrangement is that the pivotable clamping element 231 enables a smooth and controlled movement between the retracted and clamping positions. Owing to the connection to the first actuator, a movement of the first actuator ensures that the clamping element moves from the retracted position to the clamping position, and vice versa, in efficient manner. This mechanism increases the speed and simplicity of assembly and disassembly, which considerably improves the operational efficiency of stand construction. Provision can be made here for the at least one clamping element 231 to have a proximal outer end 23 Ip and a distal outer end 23 Id, wherein the distal outer end 23 Id defines the second clamping surface, i.e. the second clamping surface which strikes against a wall of the exhibition stand profiles. A proximal outer end can be understood to mean the part closer to the body, while a distal outer end lies further away. An advantage of this arrangement is that the distal outer end effectively exerts the clamping force on the profiles, this ensuring a firm connection. The connection 241 is a pivot element with at least one pivot arm which is connected to the first actuator on one side and to the proximal outer end of the clamping element on the other. This provides for a precise and controlled movement of the clamping element, whereby the transition between the positions takes place in smooth and reliable manner. This improves the efficiency and reliability of the connecting device further.

[0082] Provision can be made for the at least one pivot arm 242 to extend obliquely relative to a longitudinal axis of the body. An obliquely extending pivot arm 242 can be understood to mean an arm which is placed at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis. An advantage of this arrangement is that the oblique position of the pivot arm enables an efficient force transmission, this optimizing the movement of the clamping element. This contributes to an improved clamping action and increases the stability and reliability of the connection between the profiles.

[0083] Provision can be made for a pivot point of the at least one clamping element 231 to be positioned eccentrically relative to a longitudinal axis of the body. Eccentrically can be understood to mean not centred, or lying outside the central axis. An advantage of this arrangement is that the eccentric positioning of the pivot point creates a lever effect, this increasing the clamping force and the efficiency of the movement of the clamping element. This results in a firmer and more reliable connection between the profiles.

[0084] All figures show that the connecting device has a first actuator. The first actuator 240 is preferably a handle which is connected via a rod 241 through the body 210 to the proximal outer end of the at least one clamping element 231. The pivot element can be provided between the clamping element 231 and the rod 241, as shown in figures 9 and 10. A handle can be understood to mean a mechanical part that can be moved manually. An advantage of this arrangement is that the handle enables simple and intuitive operation. The handle is movable between an open position and a closed position. Preferably by rotating the handle about an axis. When moving the handle from the open to the closed position, the rod 241 moves, whereby the clamping element is moved from the retracted position to the clamping position, and vice versa. This mechanism ensures a quick and efficient clamping action, which considerably improves the speed and simplicity of assembly and disassembly of the exhibition stand elements. The movement of the handle is preferably a rotating movement about an axis. The rotation axis of the handle can be oriented perpendicularly of a longitudinal axis of the body 210, as shown in figures 9 and 10, but can also lie in line with the longitudinal axis. The handle can thus be formed by two alternative embodiments: a cam handle wherein the cam handle is rotatable about a camshaft oriented perpendicularly of a longitudinal axis of the body, and a clamping handle wherein the clamping handle is rotatable about a rotation axis lying in line with a longitudinal axis of the body. In both embodiments the rotating movement of the handle is translated in a translating movement of the rod 241 through the body. The rotation freedom of the handle is preferably limited to a maximum of 200°. An advantage of this limited rotation freedom is that it simplifies and accelerates operation of the handle compared to the known screw heads of traditional connecting elements wherein multiple turns of the screw head are regularly needed before the traditional connecting elements actually tension the profiles together. This limited freedom of movement enables the handle to be operated between the open position and the closed position in one movement, this increasing the speed and efficiency of assembly further. This considerably reduces the time pressure during construction and dismantling of stands.

[0085] Also shown in all figures is a holder 300. The holder 300 is configured to couple the connecting device 200 to one of the first or the second side wall of the exhibition stand profiles. A holder 300 can be understood to mean a supporting element holding the connecting device 200 in place. The holder is configured to orient the connecting device aligned relative to one of the openings of the exhibition stand profiles so that, in a retracted position, the connecting device is insertable through the respective opening. A further advantage hereof is that the holder positions and stabilizes the connecting device firmly. This ensures an accurate and simple placing of the connecting device, which enhances the speed and accuracy of assembly. This improves the efficiency of construction of the stand further.

[0086] The connecting device 200 is movable relative to the holder 300 so that, when the holder 300 is coupled to one of the first or second exhibition stand profiles, the connecting device is movable between an uncoupling position and a first coupling position, wherein in the uncoupling position the connecting device extends only partially through one of the exhibition stand profiles and in the first coupling position the connecting device extends through both the first and the second exhibition stand profile so that in the clamping position of the connecting device the at least one first exhibition stand profile and the at least one second exhibition stand profile can be clamped between the first clamping surface and the second clamping surface. Figures 6 and 9 show the position of the connecting device 200 in the uncoupling position relative to the holder 300. Figures 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11 show the position of the connecting device 200 in the first coupling position relative to the holder 300. An advantage hereof is that it provides flexibility in positioning of the connecting device. In the uncoupling position the connecting device extends only partially through one of the exhibition stand profiles, so that the second exhibition stand profile can either be arranged simply against the first exhibition stand profile or be removed, while in the first coupling position the connecting device extends through both the first and the second exhibition stand profile so that the clamping element can engage on the second exhibition stand profile. This makes it possible to clamp the profiles firmly between the first and second clamping surface when the connecting device is in the clamping position. This flexibility and precision in positioning considerably improve the efficiency and reliability of assembly. The holder 300 further also holds the connecting device on the profile so that, during disassembly of the stand, the connecting device can be transported along with the exhibition stand profile and the connecting devices need not be transported separately. The connecting device is further also immediately available when constructing the stand, and need not be arranged in an opening again. This is because the connecting device need only be displaced from the uncoupling position to the first coupling position and then from the retracted position to the clamping position in order to connect two exhibition stand profiles to each other. An advantage hereof is that it considerably shortens construction time and dismantling time and simplifies installation. This increases the efficiency and user-friendliness, whereby the stand can be constructed quickly and without additional operations. The holder 300 can have a holder wall 310 which is configured to extend all around the body 210 of the connecting device 200. A holder wall can be understood to mean an enclosing element that provides protection and support. An advantage is that the holder wall provides additional stability and protection to the connecting device, this increasing the robustness and reliability of the connection. Owing to the enclosure, the chances of damage or incorrect alignment are reduced, this contributing to an efficient and safe assembly.

[0087] Provision can be made for the holder 300 to be couplable to the exhibition stand profile in removable manner. An advantage hereof is that the holder can be mounted and removed in simple manner, this increasing the flexibility and reusability of the connecting device. The removeable coupling enables the holder to be adjusted or replaced quickly, this contributing to efficient assembly and disassembly of the stand. For this purpose the holder wall 310 can be provided with a coupling element 320 comprising a first tongue 321. A coupling element 320 can be understood to mean a part designed to enter into connection with another element, such as the exhibition stand profiles. An advantage is that the first tongue extends through the opening or the second opening, and extends on the inner side of the first or second side wall. This ensures a firm coupling of the holder to the exhibition stand profile, which increases the stability and reliability of the connection. This configuration enables a quick and simple mounting, which enhances the efficiency of assembly and disassembly. The first tongue 321 is a resilient tongue and comprises a guide part which is configured to make the tongue spring inward during arranging of the holder 300 in the opening. A resilient tongue can be understood to mean a flexible part that can bend or spring. An advantage is that the guide part facilitates installation by making the tongue spring inward in controlled manner, this enabling a smooth and accurate mounting. This increases the user- friendliness and reduces the chances of damage during assembly. The recess in which the tongue can move is preferably deeper close to the clamping mechanism than close to the first actuator. This position corresponds with the uncoupling position of the connecting device relative to the holder 300. The holder 300 can further also comprise a second tongue 321, which second tongue is arranged on a side of the holder lying opposite the first tongue and is configured to extend through at least one of the first opening 121, the second opening 122 and a further opening, and to extend on an inner side of the first side wall 101 or second side wall 102.

[0088] Provision can be made for the body 210 to be provided with a guide 214 which extends in a longitudinal direction of the body. A guide can be understood to mean a structure which enables or limits movement in a determined direction. The holder 300 comprises a guide element 322 which extends in the guide. A guide element can be understood to mean a part that co-acts with the guide in order to control movement. This arrangement provides the advantage that the movement of the connecting device relative to the holder is guided smoothly and accurately, which improves the efficiency of installation and disassembly of the stand. The co-action between the guide and the guide element reduces the chances of incorrect alignment, this contributing to the structural integrity of the construction. A distance between the first tongue and the second tongue corresponds with the diameter of the first or the second opening. This can be understood to mean a design wherein the distance is adapted precisely to the size of the opening. An advantage of this arrangement is that it ensures an accurate and firm fit, this increasing the stability and reliability of the coupling. This precise adaptation minimizes clearance and movement, which contributes to the structural integrity of the connection.

[0089] The guide is preferably a recess in the body. A recess can be understood to mean a notch or groove that is designed to accommodate or to guide a specific part. An advantage of this arrangement is that the recess provides a clear and fixed path for the guide element, this increasing the stability and precision of the movement of the connecting device relative to the holder. This configuration minimizes friction and wear, which enhances the durability and lifespan of the connecting device. A plurality of guides can also be provided. The body 210 can thus be provided with a further guide which is arranged on a side of the body lying opposite the guide, and wherein the holder comprises a further guide element which extends in the further guide so that a movement of the connecting device relative to the holder is guided by the guide and the guide element, and the further guide and the further guide element. The first and second tongue can also function as guide element in the guide. An advantage of this arrangement is that the first tongue ensures a controlled and stable movement of the connecting device inside the guide. This increases the precision and reliability of assembly, whereby the chances of incorrect alignment are reduced and the efficiency of installation is improved. At least one clamping element is in each case described above. It is however preferred for at least two clamping elements to be provided. The two clamping elements are each movable between a retracted position and a clamping position. An advantage of this arrangement is that the first actuator urges both clamping elements in the direction of the protrusion in the clamping position, whereby the first and second exhibition stand profile is clamped firmly between the clamping surfaces. This ensures an even stronger and more stable connection, which increases the structural integrity and reliability of the temporary construction. During displacement between the retracted position and the clamping position the two clamping elements move in opposite direction relative to a longitudinal axis of the body. This can be understood to mean a mechanism wherein the clamping elements move apart in order to create a clamping action. An advantage of this arrangement is that it exerts a more uniform and more effective clamping force on the exhibition stand profiles, this increasing the stability and reliability of the connection. This movement ensures an efficient and firm attachment, which simplifies assembly and disassembly.

[0090] The connecting device further comprises a springy element 333 which is configured to hold the clamping mechanism in the retracted position when in rest, see for instance figure 9. A springy element can be understood to mean a component that exerts elastic force in order to hold parts in a determined position. An advantage of this arrangement is that the resilient element ensures that the clamping mechanism automatically remains in the retracted position when it is not being actively operated. This facilitates installation and disassembly because the connecting device can be positioned in simple manner without the clamping elements protruding undesirably.

[0091] Figures 6, 7 and 9 show an exemplary embodiment in which the body 210 is provided at the position of the at least one clamping element with one or more legs 215 which extend beyond the clamping element. These legs can be understood to mean extension pieces that provide additional protection. The legs ensure that, when the connecting device falls, the clamping elements are protected against the impact. This can be understood to mean a protective mechanism that prevents damage to the clamping elements. An advantage of this arrangement is that the legs absorb the impact, this reducing or wholly eliminating the chances of the clamping elements becoming damaged. This increases the durability and lifespan of the connecting device, even in the case of rough handling or unexpected circumstances. The legs 215 can also aid in inserting the connecting device. This can be understood to mean a guiding function that facilitates the positioning. An advantage of this arrangement is that the legs hold the connecting device stable and straight during insertion, this improving the accuracy and speed of assembly. This makes installation more efficient and more user-friendly.

[0092] Figures 8 and 10 further show that the clamping elements can have a guide part configured to substantially centre the connecting device relative to a respective opening during insertion of the connecting device into the exhibition stand profile. This can be understood to mean a mechanism that ensures an accurate alignment. An advantage hereof is that the guide part centres the connecting device itself, this increasing the precision and simplicity of assembly. This reduces the chances of incorrect alignment and ensures efficient and almost problem-free installation.

[0093] Figure 12 shows a perspective view of an exemplary embodiment of a connecting device 200 with a holder 300, a positioning element 400 and a second actuator 410. The above described elements and aspects apply to figure 12.

[0094] As already described, connecting device 200 is configured to connect at least one first exhibition stand profile to at least one second exhibition stand profile in a temporary modular wall construction, see for instance figures 2, 4, 5, 11, 15, 17, and 18. It is further also described that holder 300 is configured to couple connecting device 200 to one of the first or the second side wall of the exhibition stand profiles. Holder 300 is further configured to orient the connecting device aligned relative to one of the openings of the exhibition stand profiles. This orientation ensures that, in a retracted position, the connecting device is insertable through the respective opening. Connecting device 200 is moveable relative to the holder. When the holder is coupled to one of the first or second exhibition stand profiles, this for instance being the first exhibition stand profile 100A in figure 15, the connecting device 200 is movable between at least an uncoupling position, shown in figure 15, and a first coupling position, shown in figures 4, 5 and 17. In the uncoupling position the connecting device 200 extends only partially through one of the exhibition stand profiles as shown in figure 15. Figure 15 thus shows that the outer end of the connecting device does not protrude beyond the second side wall 102 A. This means that a first outer end of the body is thus surrounded partially, preferably wholly, by the exhibition stand profile. The first outer end is the outer end of the connecting device which is situated on the side lying opposite the first actuator 240. This uncoupling position is a position in which two exhibition stand profiles can be detached from each other. This is because the second exhibition stand profile is no longer being clamped between the first and the second clamping surface, and both profiles are therefore free to be displaced.

[0095] In the first coupling position the connecting device extends through the first exhibition stand profile and at least partially through the second exhibition stand profile, see figures 4, 5 and 17. This movement and positioning ensure that, in the clamping position of the connecting device, the at least one first exhibition stand profile and the at least one second exhibition stand profile can be clamped between a first clamping surface and a second clamping surface. The holder 300 thus enables a flexible and controlled placing of the connecting device.

[0096] Figure 13 shows a cross-section, as seen in a longitudinal direction, of the exemplary embodiment shown in figure 12. Both figure 12, 13 and 14 show that connecting device 200 can further comprise at least one positioning element 400 which is configured to position the connecting device at least in a first holder position relative to holder 300. There can be more than one first holder position. The positioning element 400 can thus also be configured to position connecting device 200 in a second holder position relative to holder 300. This second holder position is for instance shown in figure 16. Holder 300 itself can be positioned at numerous other positions without the positioning element 400 having an effect on the holder, for instance in a third holder position, as shown in figure 18. The different holder positions correspond with the different positions in which connecting device 200 can be relative to the exhibition stand profiles. When the positioning element positions the holder in the first holder position relative to the connecting device, the connecting device is in the uncoupling position relative to the at least one first exhibition stand profile. Figure 15 shows a top view of the exemplary embodiment of figure 14 wherein, when the at least one positioning element 400 positions the connecting device 200 in the at least one first holder position, the connecting device is in the at least one uncoupling position relative to the at least one first exhibition stand profile 100A. In the uncoupling position the connecting device 200 extends only partially through one of the exhibition stand profiles, which enables releasing of the exhibition stand profiles, for instance during disassembly of a stand at a trade fair, or enables arranging the exhibition stand profiles against each other in simple manner during assembly.

[0097] When the at least one positioning element 400 positions the connecting device 200 in the second holder position, the connecting device 200 is in the second coupling position relative to the at least one first exhibition stand profile. Figure 16 shows a perspective view of an exemplary embodiment of a connecting device 200 with holder, positioning element and second actuator, wherein the connecting device is positioned in a second holder position relative to the holder. In this second coupling position the connecting device extends wholly through the first exhibition stand profile and only partially through the second exhibition stand profile. This ensures that the at least one first exhibition stand profile and at least a portion of the at least one second exhibition stand profile can be clamped between the first clamping surface and the second clamping surface in the clamping position of the connecting device. This functionality provides a flexible manner of connecting exhibition stand profiles, wherein adjustments are possible depending on the specific construction requirements, and contributes to the efficiency of assembly by allowing selective clamping.

[0098] In a third holder position the positioning element has no effect on holder 300, but holder 300 lies against a protrusion which is provided at the outer end at the position of the first actuator. This configuration enables the connecting device to be placed in the first coupling position. In this first coupling position the connecting device 200 extends wholly through both the first exhibition stand profile and also wholly through the second exhibition stand profile. This has the result that the at least one first exhibition stand profile and the at least one second exhibition stand profile can be clamped between the first clamping surface and the second clamping surface in the clamping position of the connecting device. This situation, wherein the connecting device extends wholly through both exhibition stand profiles for a firm and complete clamping, is shown in figures 2 and 18.

[0099] The at least one positioning element 400 is preferably movable between two positions: a recessed position and a protruding position. Figure 13 shows the at least one positioning element 400 in the protruding position, the recessed position is not shown. When the positioning element 400 is in the recessed position, the positioning element is recessed at least partially in the body 210 of connecting device 200. This means that the positioning element is situated almost wholly inside the contours of the body 210 or protrudes only minimally therefrom. The technical effect hereof is that the holder 300 can move substantially freely over the positioning element 400. This enables the holder to be displaced or placed along the body without the positioning element impeding the movement of the holder, for instance along the guide 214. When the positioning element is however in the protruding position, the positioning element protrudes relative to the body. In this protruding position the positioning element 200 engages on or strikes against the holder 300, whereby the holder can be fixed in the at least one first holder position. This functionality provides for a mechanism for securing or releasing the holder, this increasing flexibility of and control over the placing of the connecting device relative to the exhibition stand profiles.

[0100] In order to co-act with the positioning element 400 the holder 300 can be provided with a first recess 311. The first recess 311 is configured to receive the at least one positioning element 400 when this element is in the protruding position. This configuration, which is most clearly visible in figure 14, ensures that when the positioning element 400 protrudes from the body of the connecting device and fits in the first recess 311 of holder 300, holder 300 is fixed firmly in the at least one first holder position. This provides for a reliable locking of the holder relative to the connecting device in a predetermined position.

[0101] Figure 13 further shows a preferred embodiment wherein at least two positioning elements 400-1, 400-2 are provided, which are each movable between a recessed position and a protruding position, and which are preferably arranged on either side of the body.

[0102] Figure 13 further illustrates that the connecting device 200 is further provided with a second actuator 410 which is configured to move the at least one positioning element between a recessed position and a protruding position. When the positioning element is in the recessed position, the positioning element is recessed at least partially in the body 210. This means that the positioning element is situated inside the outer periphery of the body or protrudes only minimally therefrom, whereby holder 300 can move substantially freely over the positioning element. This enables the holder to be displaced along the body without impediment. In the protruding position the positioning element conversely protrudes relative to the body. In this protruding position the positioning element engages the holder 300, whereby the holder is fixed in the at least one first holder position. The second actuator 410 can be configured specifically to move two positioning element, such as 400-1 and 400-2, between the recessed position and the protruding position. This provides for a controlled and simultaneous activation of a plurality of positioning elements, which increases the stability and the fixing force of the holder relative to the connecting device.

[0103] The second actuator preferably comprises a springy element. This springy element ensures that the positioning element is in the protruding position in rest, so when no external force is being exerted thereon. This means that the positioning element normally protrudes relative to the body of the connecting device.

[0104] When the second actuator is pressed, the spring force is overcome and the positioning element moves from the protruding position to the recessed position. In this recessed position the positioning element is at least partially retracted into the body, allowing the holder to move freely. As soon as the pressure on the second actuator is released, the springy element will automatically push the positioning element back to the original protruding position. This self-locking mechanism provides for quick and intuitive operation, wherein the holder is automatically fixed as soon as the positioning element returns to the protruding position and engages in the recess of the holder.

[0105] The positioning element can also be moved to the recessed position by the holder. This happens for instance when the holder is displaced over the positioning element. In this case holder 300 functions as an external force which presses the positioning element downward, i.e. moves it to the recessed position, counter to the spring force of the second actuator. As soon as positioning element 400 detects the correct space, such as a recess 311, 312 in the holder, the positioning element automatically moves back to the protruding position due to the spring force of the second actuator. The positioning element hereby engages on the holder and fixes the holder in the desired position. This process enables quick and efficient assembly, wherein the positioning element engages automatically when the holder is placed correctly.

[0106] For this purpose a chamfered surface can also be provided on the positioning element 400, as shown in figure 14. This chamfered surface ensures that there is less resistance when the holder is displaced over the positioning element. The chamfered surface guides the holder and aids in pushing the positioning element to the recessed position in a simpler manner. This construction facilitates the process of displacing the holder over the positioning element, making assembly smoother and quicker. As soon as the positioning element then detects the space, it moves back to the protruding position owing to the spring force in order to engage on the holder.

[0107] It is preferred that, once holder 300 has been positioned by the positioning element, the user uses the second actuator to uncouple the holder from the positioning element. This means that, although the positioning element can automatically secure the holder in the positioned state, releasing requires a deliberate action via the second actuator. This option contributes to safety and prevents inadvertent uncoupling, while the user maintains control of the releasing process at all times.

[0108] Figures 13 and 14 further shows that the holder 300 can comprise a second recess 312. This second recess 312 is likewise configured to receive the at least one positioning element 400 when this element is in the protruding position. This means that when the positioning element 400 protrudes from the body of the connecting device and fits in the second recess 312 of holder 300, holder 300 is fixed firmly in this position.

[0109] When the positioning element is coupled to the first recess 311, the connecting device is in a first holder position relative to holder 300. When the holder is connected to an exhibition stand profile, this first holder position corresponds with the uncoupling position of the connecting device relative to the exhibition stand profile.

[0110] When the positioning element is however coupled to the second recess 312, as shown in figure 16, the holder is in a second holder position. In this second holder position the connecting device 200 is then in the second coupling position relative to the at least one first exhibition stand profile. The presence of both a first and a second recess in the holder, each of these corresponding with different holder positions, enables the user to place the connecting device in diverse functional positions, depending on the configuration required for assembly or disassembly.

[0111] As can be seen most clearly in figure 14, the first recess 311 lies closer to a first side of holder 300. This first side of the holder lies closer to the first actuator 240 than the second recess 312. This difference in distance between the two recesses 311, 312 on holder 300 has a specific consequence. When holder 300 is connected to the exhibition stand profile, the distance over which the connecting device extends through the exhibition stand profiles is determined substantially by the position of the holder relative to the positioning element 400. This means that locking the positioning element in the first recess 311 or the second recess 312 enables the degree to which the connecting device protrudes into the exhibition stand profiles to be varied and controlled by connecting the holder to the positioning element in the first or second holder position.

[0112] The situation where the distance over which the connecting device extends through the exhibition stand profiles is determined substantially by the position of the holder relative to the positioning element becomes apparent when figure 17 is compared to figure 15.

[0113] Figure 15 shows connecting device 200 in an arrangement wherein the positioning element 400 of the connecting device is placed in a first holder position relative to holder 300. This corresponds with the situation in which the positioning element is coupled to a first recess of the holder, which lies closer to the first actuator 240. In this configuration, when holder 300 is connected to an exhibition stand profile 100A, the connecting device is in an uncoupling position. The connecting device 200 extends only partially through the first exhibition stand profile 100 A here.

[0114] Figure 17 conversely shows the connecting device 200 in a second holder position relative to holder 300. This corresponds with the situation in which the positioning element is coupled to a second recess of the holder, which lies further away from the first actuator 240. When the holder is in this position, the connecting device 200 is in the second coupling position relative to the first exhibition stand profile 100A and a second exhibition stand profile 100C. In this second coupling position the connecting device extends wholly through the first exhibition stand profile 100 A and also partially through the second exhibition stand profile 100C, so that both profiles can be clamped.

[0115] The comparison between figure 15 and figure 17 thus illustrates that the different positions of holder 300, determined by the coupling to the positioning element 400 in the respective recesses, directly affect the extent to which connecting device 200 extends through the exhibition stand profiles. The first recess enables a shallower insertion for the uncoupling position, while the second recess results in a deeper insertion for the second coupling position, whereby flexible and controlled connections can be realized.

[0116] Figure 17 is a top view of the exemplary embodiment of the connecting device which is connected, in a second coupling position, to a first exhibition stand profile and a second exhibition stand profile;

[0117] Figures 19A and 19B show a perspective view of an outer end of a connecting device according to an exemplary embodiment. These figures show the first actuator 240 which, as described above, is configured to move the clamping element between a retracted position and a clamping position, this enabling a quick and efficient operation for connecting exhibition stand profiles. In this exemplary embodiment the first actuator 240 comprises a locking means 245. This locking means 245 is configured to lock the first actuator 240. This locking means ensures that the first actuator can be secured in a specific position, for instance in the clamping position or in the retracted position. The technical advantage hereof is that inadvertent movement of the first actuator is prevented, this increasing the stability of the connection and reducing the risk of undesired detaching of the exhibition stand profiles. This contributes to a more reliable and safer construction, especially in temporary wall constructions where robustness is essential.lt is further also noted that the holder 300 forms the first clamping surface when it is connected to the exhibition stand profiles. This means that, once coupled to an exhibition stand profile, the holder functions as the fixed point against which the exhibition stand profiles are clamped. The clamping element of the connecting device then moves toward this clamping surface in order to secure the exhibition stand profiles firmly between the holder and the moving clamping element. This configuration, wherein the holder itself forms the first clamping surface, provides for an efficient and robust clamping action, since the holder contributes directly to the stability of the connection. For the sake of completeness and as already stated above, the holder 300 can be mounted on the exhibition stand profiles by means of the coupling element 320. The holder wall 310 is provided with this coupling element, which is designed to bring about a connection with an exhibition stand profile. The coupling element 320 comprises a first tongue 321. This first tongue is configured specifically to extend through an opening or a second opening of the exhibition stand profile in the coupled position of the holder.
