Abstract
A helmet (1) comprising: an outer part (3) having an inner surface arranged to face radially inward, towards the head of a wearer in use; an inner part (4) provided radially inward of the outer part, wherein the inner part is arranged at a position adjacent to the inner surface of the outer part and configured to slide relative to the outer part, against the inner surface thereof, in response to an oblique impact to the helmet; and a two-part connecting arrangement (32, 41), arranged at an interface between the outer part and the inner part, wherein the outer part comprises a first connecting part (32) of the connecting arrangement and the inner part comprises a second connecting part (41) of the connecting arrangement, the first and second connecting parts configured to engage with each other to retain the inner part at the position adjacent to the inner surface of the outer part; wherein one of the first connecting part and the second connecting part comprises a male part and the other of the first connecting part and the second connecting part comprises a female part, for engaging the male part, and at least one of the male part and the female part comprises a deformable structure configured to deform to allow the male part and the female part to disengage from each other when a shearing force acting to shear the outer part relative to the inner part in a direction perpendicular to the radial direction of the helmet exceeds a threshold, such the inner part can slide relative to the outer part, against the inner surface thereof, the shearing force being provided by an oblique impact to the helmet.
