Description

/ 6 “CONSTRUCTIVE ARRANGEMENT APPLIED IN A GAP REDUCER FOR METRO AND RAILWAY PLATFORM DOORS”. TECHNICAL FIELD

[001] This utility model patent application pertains to the railway infrastructure and public transport safety segment, specifically for use in doors in the gap between the train and the platform. It aims to reduce the gap between the platform and the trains circulating on the metro and rail network, preventing passengers from becoming trapped when the doors close. The device covers both platforms and trains. The structure is made of polyurethane, a low-density material with high resistance to lateral and axial loads. Its low weight allows for the correct functioning of platform doors, reducing the need for frequent maintenance. HISTORY OF THE TECHNIQUE

[002] Originally, many railway platforms were designed in a simple manner, without much attention to standardization of height and distance from trains. Each station was built independently, which led to considerable variations in platform height and distance to the train, creating the gap problem we know today.

[003] With the increased importance of accessibility, especially from the 1970s onwards, efforts began to standardize platform heights. In the United States, for example, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 spurred the adaptation of platforms for people with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, and the elderly. Other countries followed suit, establishing standards for platform height and width to facilitate safe boarding and disembarking.

[004] In recent decades, platform screen doors have become one of the major advances in safety at subway and train stations. These doors act as a Petition 870250038667, dated 05 / 13 / 2025, page 5 / 15 / 6 physical barrier between passengers and the railway line, opening only when the train is completely stopped and aligned. They are especially common in subway systems of large cities such as Tokyo, Paris, London and São Paulo. In addition to preventing falls, these doors reduce the risk of suicides and accidents caused by reckless approach to the edge of the platform.

[005] Many modern platforms now include sensors that detect the presence of people or objects near the edge, alerting when someone is in a danger zone. Another important evolution is the inclusion of specific areas on the platform for wheelchair users and people with special needs, with ramps or other adaptations that allow for easier boarding. These spaces ensure that passengers with limitations have greater safety when boarding and disembarking.

[006] These innovations are part of a global movement to transform train and metro platforms into safer, more accessible environments that are better integrated with the daily flow of passengers. State of the Art Analysis

[007] Research conducted in specialized databases revealed documents relating to protective devices applied in subway and train stations, such as document no. BR 102016011468-3, which deals with a “DEVICE APPLIED IN SUBWAY AND TRAIN STATIONS FOR PASSENGER PROTECTION”. The present object refers to a safety fence equipped with a system that, when activated, prevents passage into the subway and train track trench, preventing passengers from being injured or even risking death by falling, and when not activated, allows passengers to access the subway or train car without exposing themselves to the trench. Its structure allows the fence to be opened and closed horizontally or vertically, releasing and blocking passage.

[008] Document No. KR20240088241, which deals with a “DEVICE FOR FILLING GAPS IN VEHICLES AND PLATFORMS FOR URBAN RAILWAYS”, the present invention refers to a safety crossing plate device for Petition 870250038667, dated 05 / 13 / 2025, page 6 / 15 / 6 an urban railway freight train, comprising: a rotating transmission shaft installed on the floor of an electric train where an electric train door is located; a drive means to rotate the rotating transmission shaft; a first crossing plate connected to the rotating transmission shaft and capable of being rotated by the drive means and connecting the electric train door and a platform; a second crossing plate hinged to the first crossing plate and unfolded from the first crossing plate while being rotated by the drive means when the drive means is actuated; and a drive means control device to control the driving of the drive means. When installing a rolling container so that cargo can be loaded onto an electric train on an urban railway and used as a freight train, and smoothly transporting the rolling container from the electric train to the platform, a safety crossing plate is installed on the floor of the electric train door to supplement the gap between the electric train and the platform, thus allowing smooth movement when loading / unloading the cargo and preventing impact on the cargo.

[009] Document No. US2010224097A1 concerning a “SAFETY GAP FILLING FOR RAILWAY PLATFORMS”, the present invention provides a safety gap filler that is provided on an edge of a railway platform that is adjacent to the rails so as to minimize a gap between the platform and a train. The safety gap filler of the present invention includes a base body, which is fixed to the edge of the platform in a direction parallel to the rails, and support bars, which project in predetermined lengths from the surface of the base body towards the rails at positions spaced from each other at regular intervals. Each support bar is inclined at a predetermined angle relative to the base body in a direction in which the train travels, so that the support bars are elastically placed in sliding contact with the side wall of the train.

[010] Although the documents mentioned belong to the same field of activity, they do not have the same functionality and characteristics. The Petition 870250038667, dated 05 / 13 / 2025, page 7 / 15 / 6 devices currently used in the market have a high weight, which impairs the operation of platform doors and increases the need for frequent maintenance over time.

[011] Thus, it is a fact that the documents cited in the paragraphs above, despite belonging to the same field of application, do not present any of the characteristics of the object now improved, thus guaranteeing that it meets the legal requirements for patentability. BRIEF DESCRIPTION

[012] Taking into account all the problems that have been presented in the state of the art, the inventor, who has notorious knowledge of the sector, created and developed the aforementioned “CONSTRUCTIVE ARRANGEMENT APPLIED IN A GAP REDUCER FOR METRO AND RAILWAY PLATFORM DOORS”, which aims to reduce the gap between platform doors and trains circulating on the metro and railway network, preventing users from being trapped when the doors close, both platform doors and train doors.
