Abstract

A ball hitch coupler 107a includes a body 200, 300 having a receptacle therein, the receptacle being sized to receive a ball on a ball hitch. The body includes an opening through its upper surface into the receptacle. A hitch release mechanism 201, 301 is pivotally mounted on the upper surface of the body and may include a drain hole or depression 320 that traps the prongs 301a of the hitch release mechanism when it is in the open position. A hitch rod 206, 306 extends through the opening in the upper surface of the body and connects, at a first end external to the body, to the hitch release mechanism.A hitch 207 is secured to a second end of the hitch rod inside the receptacle, wherein the hitch includes a tab 207a projecting from a rear surface of the hitch and received by a groove 209 within the body, to guide the movement of the hitch.
