Abstract
Description
A preparation method of stable fatty alcohol emulsion Technical Field
[0001] The invention relates to a preparation method of a fatty alcohol emulsion, and therefore the invention belongs to the technical field of fine chemicals. Background Art
[0002] In the wet end of papermaking, sizing agents, retention and drainage aids, reinforcing agents, deinking agents, dry strength agents and other surface-active additives are used depending on the type of paper. During the circulation of white water in papermaking, bubbles are easily generated. The presence of these bubbles has a great impact on the paper, resulting in poor sizing, spots, translucent spots and small holes on the paper surface, and even causing paper breaks. It is also easy to reduce the operating efficiency of the pump and increase energy consumption.
[0003] The application of fatty alcohol emulsion defoamers in the wet end of papermaking is a mature technology. Over the years of research, in addition to using fatty alcohols, technicians have also introduced paraffin wax, oils, white carbon black and other substances as defoaming active substances to continuously improve the product's defoaming and antifoaming properties. However, due to the large number of active substances, the emulsification process has different requirements for emulsifiers and emulsification processes, making it difficult to balance them. This leads to emulsion instability and easily causes problems such as emulsion creaming or stratification. Researchers have studied the stability of emulsions as follows:
[0004] In CN101780383A, an emulsifying substance and a defoaming active substance (higher alcohol, glycerol polyether, acetylene alcohol) are dissolved in a dispersion medium, and after pre-emulsification by heating, a stable emulsion is prepared by homogenization for a long time. The preparation of the emulsion is time-consuming and costly. In CN103628353A, a high-speed disperser is used to strongly disperse a fatty alcohol emulsion, and a high molecular weight substance is introduced to prepare a stable emulsion. The preparation method is relatively complicated. US5807502 uses a C6-18 1,2- Adducts of glycols and ethylene oxide are used as emulsifiers to stabilize fatty alcohol emulsions, but such emulsifiers are difficult to purchase on the market and the raw materials for their synthesis are expensive. CN1781574A uses adducts of C2-4 alkylene oxides and primary alcohols with branched alkyl groups to stabilize fatty alcohol emulsions, but such methods cannot solve the stability problem of natural fatty alcohol emulsions. CN107137959A separately prepares fatty alcohols, paraffin waxes, and oils into emulsions using nonionic surfactants, thickeners, and water, and then mixes these three emulsions with anionic surfactants at room temperature to prepare a stable emulsion, resulting in a relatively complex preparation process. CN113577836A introduces different types of emulsifiers, and during the preparation process, different types of emulsifiers are added in batches at different temperatures for emulsification, thereby avoiding the problem of excessive emulsions during the emulsification process, which leads to poor product stability. At the same time, the introduction of higher fatty alcohol fatty acid esters improves the foam suppression performance and further improves the stability of the product. During the preparation process, the preparation temperature needs to be constantly monitored. The preparation method is complicated. In order to improve the anti-foaming performance, other substances need to be introduced, which brings hidden dangers to the guarantee of product stability.
[0005] In summary, the above patents mainly improve the stability of fatty alcohol emulsions through relatively complex processes. At the same time, in order to take into account the anti-foaming performance, other substances need to be added, which brings new problems to the guarantee of stability.
[0006] Summary of the Invention
[0007] The present invention utilizes a silane coupling agent to perform surface modification on silica. The resulting modified silica can be adsorbed on the interface between a defoaming active substance and water, thereby dispersing the active substance and preventing aggregation from causing the product to become creamy. This also improves the defoaming and antifoaming properties of the product. Furthermore, during the emulsification process, a nonionic surfactant and an acrylate polymer synergistically emulsify the active substance, further improving the stability of the emulsion.
[0008] Technical Solution

[0088] Performance Testing
[0089] 1. Emulsion stability test
[0090] The emulsions prepared in the above examples and comparative examples were subjected to six-month viscosity tracking tests at 5°C, 25°C, and 40°C. Viscosity was measured using an NDJ-8 digital viscometer with a #2 rotor at 6 rpm. The specific results are shown in Table 1 below (viscosity measured in mPa.s; a "-" indicates the emulsion is a paste and cannot flow):
[0091] Table 1 Changes in emulsion viscosity at different storage temperatures
[0092] Viscosity tracking test data shows that the defoamer emulsions prepared in the present invention exhibit minimal viscosity changes after six months of storage at 5°C, 25°C, and 40°C, demonstrating good storage stability. In contrast, the viscosities of the fatty alcohol emulsions prepared in Comparative Examples 1-5 all increased to varying degrees after six months.
[0093] 2. Test method for foam suppression performance:
[0094] The performance of the defoaming agent is determined by the circulating bubbling method. 600 ml of white water is added to the circulating bubbling device and heated to the required temperature. The flow pump is turned on and circulated at a flow rate of 8 / L min to a foam volume of 300 ml. 6 μl of defoaming agent is added and the change in foam volume over time is recorded. Within the same time, the smaller the volume, the better the defoaming and antifoaming performance; the longer the time for the foam to reach 300 ml again, the better the antifoaming performance.
[0095] The fatty alcohol emulsion prepared by the invention exhibits good foam elimination and suppression performance at 30° C. and 55° C.
