A METHOD TO PERFORM AUTOMATED DATA INPUT FOR WELL COMPLETION PROJECTSCROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0001] This application claims the benefit of China Application No. 202311378730.0, entitled "A METHOD TO PERFORM AUTOMATED DATA INPUT FOR WELL COMPLETION PROJECTS" filed October 23, 2023, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated herein by reference..FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0002] Aspects of the disclosure relate to wellbore completion for hydrocarbon recovery operations. More specifically, aspects of the disclosure relate to an automation method and apparatus for data upload into computer modeling software to allow for completing a hydrocarbon recovery wellbore.BACKGROUND

[0003] Completions for hydrocarbon recovery projects are one of the most essential steps in successful hydrocarbon recovery projects. Without a successful completion of the wellbore, all of the capital funds spent are wasted; therefore, wellbore owners are extremely careful during completion operations as significant economic expense is at risk.

[0004] In an effort to ensure that the completion project is performed according to a rigid engineering specification, data retrieval and usage is important. Up to point of the actual completion of the wellbore, many tests and evaluations have been conducted. Each of these tests are reviewed and validated. The results of the tests are generally fed into a specially designed program that is configured to digest the information and provide both a current state of the wellbore and anticipated next steps for final completion.

[0005] The amount of employee labor costs to ensure that all data has been retained, and input of data, is large. These labor costs add significantly to the overall cost of theA METHOD TO PERFORM AUTOMATED DATA INPUT FOR WELL COMPLETION PROJECTS wellbore and there is a need to provide a cost effective solution to allow completions to start. Currently, there are no automated mechanisms to achieve such reductions in labor costs.

[0006] As will also be understood, the hydrocarbon recovery industry has significant peaks and recessions as time moves forward. These fluctuations often involve employee movement within, and out of, the oil field industry. The fluctuations can often affect key employees that have significant experience in the completions area. To this end, employees on certain completion projects may not have the experience needed to perform the work. There is a need; therefore, to allow for completions to proceed regardless of the employee capabilities, to allow for completion of the wellbore.

[0007] There is a need to provide an apparatus and methods that are easier to operate than the manual processes and method involving conventional apparatus and methods.

[0008] There is a further need to provide apparatus and methods that do not have the drawbacks discussed above.

[0009] There is a still further need to reduce economic costs associated with operations and apparatus described above with conventional tools.SUMMARY

In embodiments, interaction with industry standard applications such as Intervention Advisor, TalliX, Wireline Planning, and CoilCADE are supported.

[0024] Digital intervention planning and well performance modelling applications require users to enter well completion information during job / plan setup. Users are asked to manually extract the target information such as equipment types, depth, length, and diameters from well completion files and fill them into corresponding dialogues in each application, making it a tedious and time-consuming task, and prone to user error. An automated well completion workflow increases users’ efficiency and allows them to focus on more critical tasks.

[0025] Aspects of the disclosure improve well completion extraction workflow efficiency by automating the entire manual process. In embodiments, the well completion information ingestion system automatically converts well completion files to structured well completion data regularly, and provides a centralized dataset that stores well completion data which can be shared with well completion consumers. In embodiments, well completion consumers query the target well completion data from the centralized dataset to see whether the target data is already processed and stored in the dataset. If the target data is not found, the systems disclosed, extract the completion data from provided well completion datasets automatically.

[0026] FIG. 1 illustrates how the proposed automated well completion information ingestion system works. In the well completion ingestion system, the well completion PDF files are first stored in the file storage dataset. Next, the file processing service gets these files from the file storage dataset and then extracts well completion information automatically from these files by using Document-AI and Natural Language ProcessingA METHOD TO PERFORM AUTOMATED DATA INPUT FOR WELL COMPLETION PROJECTS techniques. The file processing service reads the contents from files. Then, the method converts the domain experts’ heuristic search into formal search queries running on the contents. The outputs are the target well completion data (such as length, depths, and diameters of casing, tubing, perforations, and downhole equipment) and well data (including well name, country name, field name, location, customer, and report date). Thereafter, these outputs are stored in the centralized dataset.

[0027] Well completion consumers can query their target well completion information with a well name. If the target completion information is available in the centralized dataset, well completion consumers will get the corresponding information. Otherwise, well completion consumers can empower their user to upload a well completion file. Then, the well completion file is also fed to the well completion ingestion system. Lastly, well completion consumers can get target well completion information.

[0028] Referring to FIG. 1 , a workflow 100 according to an example embodiment disclosed is provided. The workflow 100 includes obtaining data pertaining to wellbore creation at 104 and providing this documentation to a well completion ingestion system 102. The well completion ingestion system 102, in one non-limiting embodiment, has a file storage arrangement 106, a file process service 108, and a centralized dataset 110. The obtaining of the data at 104 may be in the form of a PDF format.

[0029] The well completion ingestion system 102 takes the data provided at 104 and then provides structured well completion data at 114 to a consumer 112. As provided above, the consumer 112 may be a standardized wellbore completions program. Output from the consumer at 112 may be back fed to the well completion ingestion system 102.A METHOD TO PERFORM AUTOMATED DATA INPUT FOR WELL COMPLETION PROJECTS

In one non-limiting embodiment, the file storage 106 may include various alternatives such as a computer hard drive, a solid-state device, a universal serial bus device, a web-based storage system, or a cloud computing device.

[0031] In embodiments, the file process service 108 may be a computer program that is programmed to accept the data from the file storage 106 and process the data contained therein. As will be understood, the file process service 108 may have the ability to convert data from different formats and then store the resultant data in a standardized format in the centralized dataset at 110. To this end, the file process service 108 may use optical character recognition technology. The file process service 108 may also have the ability to read other formats such as standard Microsoft formats of Word, Excel and Power Point.

[0032] In some embodiments, the file process service 108 may have built-in fault recognition capabilities. Such built-in fault recognition capabilities will understand expected ranges for values and notify the consumer 112 of values that are outside of expected normal ranges.

[0033] As generated by the consumer 112, a well name may be generated by the consumer at 116 and a search may be made of the centralized dataset 110. Different projects may be stored within the centralized dataset 110. In some embodiments, direct access may be provided to several data sets stored within the centralized dataset 110. Instances for such multiple data sets may include an evaluation performed on geological data in the vicinity of the wellbore that would be applicable to multiple wellbores. Such data may include large seismic surveys that cover extended areas. In such embodiments,A METHOD TO PERFORM AUTOMATED DATA INPUT FOR WELL COMPLETION PROJECTS additional advantages are achieved as a single insert of data is accomplished, limiting possible errors from multiple data sources.
