AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing implantable stents face challenges in maintaining structural integrity and flexibility during deployment, particularly in ensuring uniform expansion and preventing foreshortening or accordioning at the ends, while also providing adequate porosity for specific applications.

Method used

The endoprosthesis features alternating rows of stent elements with interlocking arrangements and discontinuous webs of material that restrict movement and provide varying stiffness along its length, using polymeric films and metallic alloys to enhance axial rigidity and flexibility, allowing for controlled expansion and reduced foreshortening.

Benefits of technology

The solution ensures uniform expansion and maintains structural integrity by restricting movement and foreshortening, while allowing for controlled deployment and enhanced porosity, thus improving the functionality and reliability of the stent.

Abstract

An endoprosthesis having a length, a first end, a second end, and a longitudinal axis is disclosed herein, where the endoprosthesis is expandable from a compact, delivery configuration to an enlarged, deployed configuration. The endoprosthesis comprising: a first section comprising: a first plurality of rows of stent elements, and a first plurality of web elements configured to restrict movement of the first plurality of rows of stent elements relative to each other in the first section; and a second section comprising: a second plurality of rows of stent elements including alternating apices defining a spaced apart, interlocking arrangement in the compact, delivery configuration and in the enlarged, deployed configuration, and a second plurality of web elements spaced from one another and interconnecting the alternating apices, the second plurality of web elements being arranged perpendicular to the longitudinal axis along a common circumference such that the second section is more axially rigid than the first section. 20 24 20 55 66 06 A ug 2 02 4 2 0 2 4 2 0 5 5 6 6 0 6 2 0 2 4 A u g s e c t i o n .
