Description

Technical Field

[0001] This invention relates to a printing apparatus with document organization function and a document organization method thereon, and more particularly to a printing apparatus and its document organization method that utilizes two speeds to feed paper so that the output paper can be neatly stacked. Background Technology

[0002] Printers are a common and widely used computer peripheral device. Whether it is a printer used in a general household or a business printer used in a company, government agency or school, it can provide users with the ability to print out documents. It is an indispensable device for modern people when dealing with text work.

[0003] With technological advancements, modern printers and office machines offer increasingly diverse functions, including not only printing but also scanning, storage, and further transmission. Furthermore, to provide superior paper output, some printing devices are now designed with binding and document finishing capabilities. According to the manufacturers, these devices are called Staple Finishers.

[0004] Taking the document sorting function as an example, a clamp-shaped sorting module with a certain width is provided on both sides of the paper output port of the printing device. If a document contains several sheets of paper, after each sheet is printed, it is first fed one by one to a paper collection platform behind the paper output port, and then slides towards the back plate of the paper collection platform to be brought together, thereby completing the front-to-back alignment of all the sheets. Then, the sorting module can move horizontally relative to the sides of the paper output port to bring the sheets on the paper collection platform together left and right, thereby completing the lateral alignment of all the sheets.

[0005] In addition, the printing device is equipped with a binding module, which can be located next to the paper collection platform. After all the papers have been sorted, they can be bound at one corner using this binding module. Then, a row of paper modules located at the edge of the paper collection platform ejects the document, and the sorting module opens from both sides to allow the document to fall onto a tray below the paper output port, thus completing the output of one document.

[0006] Therefore, the binding function must be paired with the sorting function. Only after the paper is sorted can it be neatly bound. However, it can also be designed so that binding is not required. If the user selects that the document does not need to be bound after printing (or the printing device only has the sorting function), the printing device will operate by ejecting the document from the paper collection platform (i.e., several sheets of paper together) by the paper ejection module after the document is printed. After ejection, the sorting module will separate left and right to drop the document onto the tray.

[0007] Furthermore, this paper feeding module is designed to use multiple rollers in two layers for paper feeding. When paper feeding is required, the rollers clamp the corresponding paper or document from above and below and roll them rapidly, allowing the paper or document to be fed out of the paper output port, thus completing the paper feeding process.

[0008] Although the unbound multi-page sheets can be initially organized on the paper collection platform, the rapid up-and-down engagement and rolling of the multiple rollers may propel each sheet outward with excessive force, resulting in an uneven stack on the tray. This not only reduces the quality of the output document, but the excessively disordered stacking may also affect the page ordering of the entire document, causing inconvenience to the user. Furthermore, using a slower paper feed speed to avoid disordered stacking will lengthen the feed time and may even prevent the sheets from being completely ejected from the paper collection platform. Summary of the Invention

[0009] The purpose of this invention is to provide a printing device with document organization function and a document organization method applied thereto. This printing device and its document organization method utilize two paper ejection speeds, which can avoid uneven stacking of paper due to excessively fast ejection speed, and also avoid the problem of paper not being completely ejected due to excessively slow ejection speed, resulting in neatly stacked ejected paper and improving the quality of document output.

[0010] This invention relates to a document organization method applied to a printing device. The printing device includes a main printer, a paper collection platform, an organization module, a paper output module, and a tray. The paper collection platform has a platform length. The method includes the following steps: the main printer prints a document with multiple pages and feeds the multiple pages onto the paper collection platform; the organization module organizes the multiple pages on both sides; the paper output module first outputs a first portion of the multiple pages at a first speed, and then outputs a second portion of the multiple pages at a second speed, thereby expelling the multiple pages from the paper collection platform; and the organization module is opened on both sides of the multiple pages, causing the multiple pages to fall onto the tray; wherein the first speed is greater than the second speed, a first length of the first portion is greater than a second length of the second portion, and the first length plus the second length equals the platform length.

[0011] Another aspect of the present invention is a printing device with document sorting function, comprising: a printing host, a paper collection platform, a sorting module, a paper output module, and a tray. The printing host is used to print and transport a document containing multiple sheets of paper. The paper collection platform is disposed above the printing host to hold the multiple sheets of paper, and the paper collection platform has a platform length. The sorting module is disposed on both sides in front of the paper collection platform to sort the multiple sheets of paper. The paper output module is disposed at the end edge of the paper collection platform to provide a first speed for discharging a first portion of the multiple sheets of paper, and a second speed for discharging a second portion of the multiple sheets of paper, thereby discharging the multiple sheets of paper from the paper collection platform. The tray is disposed below the sorting module to catch the dropped multiple sheets of paper when the sorting module opens on both sides of the multiple sheets of paper. The first speed is greater than the second speed, the first length of the first portion is greater than the second length of the second portion, and the first length plus the second length equals the platform length.

[0012] The beneficial effects of this invention are that the printing device with document organization function and the document organization method applied thereto utilize two speeds for paper ejection. After a portion of the paper is ejected at high speed, the speed immediately switches to low speed to eject the remaining portion. This not only avoids uneven stacking of paper due to excessively fast ejection but also prevents paper from being ejected completely due to excessively slow ejection speed. Consequently, this invention achieves the most appropriate ejection effect, effectively presenting neat stacking and improving the quality of document output.

[0045] The following detailed description provides examples of embodiments. These embodiments are merely illustrative and do not limit the scope of protection intended by the present invention. Furthermore, the accompanying drawings in the embodiments omit unnecessary elements or elements that can be accomplished with ordinary techniques, in order to clearly illustrate the technical features of the present invention.

[0046] The following is a description of an embodiment of the printing apparatus with document organization function proposed in this invention and the document organization method applied thereto. Please also refer to... Figure 1 and Figure 2 .in Figure 1 This is a perspective view of a printing device 1 according to the present invention; Figure 2 This is a side sectional view of the printing apparatus 1 of the present invention. Figure 1 and Figure 2 As shown, the printing device 1 mainly includes a paper collection platform 10, a sorting module 12, a paper output module 11, and a tray 13. The paper collection platform 10 is located inside the printing device 1, the sorting module 12 and the paper output module 11 are located at the paper output ports, and the tray 13 is located outside the printing device 1.

[0047] On the other hand, the printing device 1 also has a printing host (not shown in the figures). In this embodiment, the printing host is configured as a modular unit, including printing elements, toner cartridges and paper cartridges, etc., and can be configured in the lower half of the overall printing device 1, and assembled with the paper collection platform 10, the paper output module 11 and the sorting module 12, etc., which are configured in the upper half of the overall printing device 1.

[0048] In detail, the printer can transport the printed paper to the paper collection platform 10, which is located above the printer to hold the paper. The sorting module 12 is located on both sides in front of the paper collection platform 10 to sort the paper. The paper discharge module 11 is located at the end edge of the paper collection platform 10 to discharge the paper. The tray 13 is located below the sorting module 12 to catch any dropped paper.

[0049] In this embodiment, as Figure 1 and Figure 2 As shown, the paper collection platform 10 is designed with an inclined surface 101 and a back plate 102 connected to the rear. The sorting module 12 is designed with two opposing clamping parts 121 and 122, which can move horizontally relative to the front of the paper collection platform 10. The paper discharge module 11 is designed with multiple rollers 111 and a motor (not shown in the figure). The multiple rollers 111 are arranged in two rows, and the motor is driven by the multiple rollers 111 to drive them, so that the multiple rollers 111 can contact and roll relative to the top and bottom of the paper carried on the paper collection platform 10.

[0050] The printing device 1 of the present invention is similar in hardware structure to the design of known devices. One feature of the present invention is that the proposed document organization method can be configured as firmware in the printing device 1 for execution, or stored as program code in a flash memory in the printing device 1 for access and execution by a relevant controller or processing unit (not shown in the figures), thereby operating the document organization function.

[0051] Please also see Figure 3 and Figure 4 .in Figure 3 This is a flowchart illustrating the implementation of the document organization method proposed in this invention. Figure 4 This is an enlarged schematic diagram illustrating the paper feeding operation of the paper feeding module 11. It should be noted that this embodiment is specifically designed for applications where document printing is designated as unbound, or where the printing device 1 only has a sorting function and not a binding function.

[0052] like Figure 3 As shown, firstly, the printer prints a document 2 with multiple sheets of paper 20 and feeds the multiple sheets of paper 20 onto the paper collection platform 10 (step S1); secondly, the sorting module 12 sorts the multiple sheets of paper 20 on both sides (step S2); next, the paper ejection module 11 ejects a first portion 21 of the multiple sheets of paper 20 at a first speed, and then ejects a second portion 22 of the multiple sheets of paper 20 at a second speed, thereby expelling the multiple sheets of paper 20 from the paper collection platform 10 (step S3); finally, the sorting module 12 is opened on both sides of the multiple sheets of paper 20, causing the multiple sheets of paper 20 to fall onto the tray 13 (step S4).

[0053] Regarding steps S1 to S2, since there is no problem with subsequent paper layout or stacking disorder when the printed document is only one sheet, this embodiment is particularly suitable for applications where a printed document has multiple sheets of paper. Therefore, after the document 2 is printed, all the sheets 20 will slide on the paper collection platform 10 along the inclined surface 101 towards the back plate 102 to achieve front-to-back alignment.

[0054] like Figure 4As shown, the paper collection platform 10 of this invention has a platform length L0, while the paper size used in document 2 can be any size, but its length must be greater than the platform length L0. Therefore, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 of the multi-page paper 20 are supported on the paper collection platform 10, and a front end portion 23 of the multi-page paper 20 extends out of the paper collection platform 10 and into the two clamping portions 121 and 122 of the sorting module 12. Therefore, the two clamping portions 121 and 122 of the sorting module 12 then move horizontally on both sides of the multi-page paper 20 to bring them together to align both sides of all the papers 20. Thus, the multi-page paper 20 is now neatly arranged.

[0055] In detail, the entire document 2 (i.e., multiple pages 20) can be divided into three parts: the front section 23, the first section 21, and the second section 22, with the first section 21 located between the front section 23 and the second section 22. The length of the first section 21 is defined as a first length L1, and the length of the second section 22 is defined as a second length L2. When the paper is properly organized, the first length L1 plus the second length L2 equals the platform length L0. Therefore, even if different paper sizes are used, the length of the first length L1 plus the second length L2 is always maintained on the paper collection platform 10.

[0056] Regarding step S3, after the sorting module 12 completes the sorting, it causes the multiple rollers 111 to engage with the multiple sheets of paper 20 to begin rolling. In this invention, the first speed is designed to be greater than the second speed, and the first length L1 of the first portion 21 is designed to be greater than the second length L2 of the second portion 22. In other words, the paper output module 11 of this invention provides a method of first outputting the multiple sheets of paper 20 at a faster speed, and outputting a longer range of the multiple sheets of paper 20; then, it outputs the multiple sheets of paper 20 at a slower speed, and outputting a shorter range of the multiple sheets of paper 20. This differs from known technologies that output the entire document at a single fixed speed (whether high or low speed).

[0057] As described above, the paper feeding module 11 feeds paper by the rolling of multiple rollers 111, and the rolling of these rollers 111 is driven by the motor. Therefore, to control the paper feeding speed of the multiple rollers 111, the paper feeding module 11 is also designed with a mask sensor 112 (see...). Figure 2The mask sensor 112 is a rotary encoder, located next to the motor, used to sense the motor's rotational speed, that is, to sense the rotational movement of the motor shaft and generate a feedback signal to know its rotation status. In this embodiment, the mask sensor 112 is designed to have 64 points (count) per revolution, and each point is 0.1309 millimeters (mm) long. Thus, the rotational speed of the motor can be calculated by the distance rotated and the time elapsed, thereby controlling the rolling speed of the multiple rollers 111 to operate at the first speed or the second speed.

[0058] On the other hand, the paper collection platform 10 used in this embodiment has a platform length L0 of 108.78 mm. The present invention sets the platform length L0 to a fixed value, and determines or adjusts the magnitude of the first speed and the second speed by means of the condition that the paper feeding time consumed by the printing device 1 must not exceed the paper feeding time of known devices.

[0059] The graph showing the relationship between motor speed and time, obtained from an experiment, can be found here. Figure 5 .like Figure 5 As shown, the first speed is designed to be 362 mm / s, and the second speed is 160 mm / s. Specifically, the motor speed (which can also be considered as the rolling speed or paper feeding speed of the plurality of rollers 111) accelerates from rest to the first speed in a very short time, maintains the speed at a constant speed for a first duration t1, then decelerates to the second speed, and maintains the speed at a constant speed for a second duration t2, wherein the first duration t1 is shorter than the second duration t2.

[0060] Therefore, calculations show that the first length L1 of the first portion 21 discharged by the multiple rollers 111 at the first speed is 60 millimeters (mm), and the second length L2 of the second portion 22 discharged at the second speed is 48.78 millimeters (mm). In other words, once the multiple rollers 111 have discharged 60 millimeters (mm) at the first speed, the multiple rollers 111 can be slowed down to the second speed to discharge the remaining length of paper (i.e., the second portion 22).

[0061] It should be noted that the time taken to accelerate to the first speed is very short (approximately 5 milliseconds (ms)). This means that although paper is not yet laid out at the high speed of the first speed during this period, the length laid out will not be very long (estimated to be no more than 1 millimeter (mm)). Secondly, during the transition from the first speed to the second speed, because the speed change is continuous, there will be a very short time (approximately 4 milliseconds (ms)) during which paper is laid out at a speed between the first and second speeds. However, on average, the first part 21 lays out paper at the high speed of the first speed, while the second part 22 lays out paper at the low speed of the second speed.

[0062] Furthermore, to ensure that multiple sheets of paper 20 are completely discharged from the paper collection platform 10, in another embodiment, it can be designed such that when the rolling distance of the plurality of rollers 111 reaches the platform length L0, the plurality of rollers 111 continue to roll for a preset time; and the preset time can be, for example, 1.46 seconds (s). That is, even though the design of the paper discharge speed described above has determined that multiple sheets of paper 20 can be discharged and removed from the paper collection platform 10, in order to ensure that paper jams are avoided, it is designed that after the plurality of rollers 111 have discharged the entire second part 22, they do not immediately stop rolling, but continue to roll at the second speed for the preset time before stopping rolling.

[0063] Alternatively, to ensure that the plurality of rollers 111 roll at a specified speed, ratio, or size relationship, in another embodiment, it can be further designed that when the mask sensor 112 senses that the rotational speed of the motor or the corresponding rolling speed of the plurality of rollers 111 has not reached the first speed or the second speed within a preset time, the motor drive is stopped and an error message is generated. That is, the user can know that the paper feeding operation has stopped based on the error message reported and displayed by the device, thereby avoiding possible abnormal situations.

[0064] Furthermore, to ensure that the multiple sheets of paper 20 are completely discharged from the paper collection platform 10, the remaining second length L2 must be considered based on the characteristics of the multiple rollers 111 when determining the configured first speed and second speed. Specifically, when the multiple rollers 111 engage and roll the multiple sheets of paper 20, the contact area of the sheets of paper 20 will be slightly concave due to the degree of engagement, giving the multiple rollers 111 a contact length. This contact length is related not only to the degree of engagement but also to the material and size of the rollers 111.

[0065] Generally speaking, the multiple rollers 111 must have sufficient contact area (or length) with the multiple sheets of paper 20 to effectively cause the multiple sheets of paper 20 to roll. Therefore, the contact length must be designed to be less than the second length L2. In other words, if the determined second length L2 is less than or equal to the contact length, the multiple rollers 111 cannot effectively grip and discharge the paper at the corresponding second speed. In this embodiment, the contact length is designed to be 45 mm, and the second length L2 is 48.78 mm, thus enabling effective paper discharge.

[0066] Regarding step S4, after the multiple sheets of paper 20 are completely discharged from the paper collection platform 10, the two clamping portions 121 and 122 of the sorting module 12 are still tightly close to the multiple sheets of paper 20, so the multiple sheets of paper 20 remain within the two clamping portions 121 and 122. However, because the paper discharge module 11 uses two speeds for paper discharge, there will be no unevenness or ejection from the two clamping portions 121 and 122. Therefore, at this time, simply separating the two clamping portions 121 and 122 of the sorting module 12 from both sides of the multiple sheets of paper 20 will allow the multiple sheets of paper 20 to fall neatly onto the tray 13.

[0067] As described above, the present invention further designs the tray 13 to be able to move up and down relative to the sorting module 12, that is, in Figure 2 The movement is shown between a first position P1 and a second position P2. Figure 2 The tray 13 is schematically positioned on the second position P2 near the sorting module 12, and the first position P1 is located below the second position P2.

[0068] Therefore, the printing device 1 of this invention also includes a first sensor 141 and a second sensor 142, which are respectively disposed on the first position P1 and the second position P2 where the tray 13 can be moved, and are capable of sensing the first position P1 and the second position P2 respectively. That is, when the tray 13 rises to the top of the second position P2, it can be sensed by the second sensor 142 and the tray 13 will stop rising; and when the tray 13 falls to the bottom of the first position P1, it can be sensed by the first sensor 141 and the tray 13 will stop falling.

[0069] Another feature of the present invention is that the movement of the tray 13 can keep the falling sheets of paper 20 neatly stacked. Therefore, the paper falling process in step S4 above may further include the following steps: when the paper discharge module 11 discharges paper, the tray 13 is moved downward toward the first position P1; and after the sheets of paper 20 fall onto the tray 13, the tray 13 is moved upward toward the second position P2.

[0070] In detail, since the multiple sheets of paper 20 are unbound, they may scatter upon impact when falling onto the tray 13. If a large number of copies are printed (the two clamping parts 121 and 122 can be used to separate different stacks), the unevenness will be more noticeable. However, if the tray 13 can be lowered to catch the falling sheets of paper 20, the impact can be effectively mitigated. Furthermore, if the specified print job consists of multiple documents, the tray 13 can be lowered to create space to accommodate these documents, preventing them from blocking the paper output port due to excessive stacking.

[0071] In summary, the document organization function of the printing device and the document organization method proposed in this invention utilize two speeds for paper ejection. After a portion of the paper is ejected at high speed, the speed immediately switches to low speed to eject the remaining portion. This not only avoids uneven stacking of paper due to excessively fast ejection but also prevents incomplete ejection due to excessively slow speed. Consequently, this invention achieves optimal ejection results, effectively producing neat stacking and improving the quality of document output.

[0072] Therefore, the present invention can effectively solve the related problems raised in the prior art and successfully achieve the main objective of this development.

[0073] While the present invention has been disclosed above with reference to embodiments, it is not intended to limit the invention. Those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains can make various modifications and refinements without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Therefore, the scope of protection of this invention shall be determined by the appended claims.
