Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a fastening system for arranging bolts in a tower assembly. The present invention also relates to a method for installing bolts in a tower assembly. Background Art
[0002] In the field of wind turbines, some wind turbines have segmented towers, and in order to connect two tower sections, an outer flange is used. This outer flange has a plurality of holes. The outer flange of one tower section is connected to the outer flange of another tower section by bolts, thereby connecting the two tower sections.
[0003] In order to transport the bolts from the ground to its final location, a mobile lifting work platform is used, in which a technician stays in the work platform and inserts the bolts into the corresponding assembly holes one by one by hand. The outer flange usually has about 170-200 holes. For safety reasons, two technicians are required. However, the mobile lifting work platform has a low load-bearing capacity. Therefore, due to the total weight of the bolts and the technicians, the basket of the mobile lifting work platform can only carry 7-10 bolts, so that several trips are required to complete the task. Therefore, due to the low load-bearing capacity of the mobile lifting work platform, this technology requires a lot of time.
[0004] In order to reduce the number of strokes and also the time for transporting the bolts, it is known to arrange a pair of plastic straps to secure the bolts in the assembly holes of the flange.
[0005] Another known solution consists in placing a plastic protector in each assembly hole of the flange before carrying out the erection of the tower section, in order to protect the bolts and hold them in place.
[0006] A typical disadvantage of this known solution is that considerable time is required to arrange and fix the bolts in the corresponding assembly holes. In addition, the bolts may fall off during the erection of the tower, which can lead to serious accidents, for example, if the bolts fall off and hit the technicians.
[0007] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a fastening system for arranging bolts in a tower assembly which reduces the assembly time of the tower sections and also improves safety. Summary of the invention
[0008] The objects of the invention are achieved by the independent claims. The dependent claims describe advantageous developments and modifications of the invention.
[0009] In a first aspect, a fastening system for arranging bolts in a tower assembly is provided. The fastening system comprises a strap and at least one fastening device. The strap comprises a fixing device configured to tie the strap around the outer side portion of a wind turbine tower. The fastening device comprises a supporting unit, at least one clamping element, a fixing plate and at least one holding device.
[0010] The support unit is configured to be attached to the belt. The at least one clamping element is configured to retain a bolt therein. The fixing plate is arranged in the support unit and is configured to move from a closed position, in which the bolt is to be fixed, to an open position to allow the bolt to be inserted into / removed from the at least one clamping element. The at least one retaining device is movable from a first position to a second position, in which the retaining device connects the fixing plate and the support unit, thereby further securing the bolt within the at least one clamping element.
[0011] By having a fastening system, at least one bolt is arranged into the fastening system and moves with the tower section as it is lifted until the assembly phase. Safety is increased because the at least one bolt is securely fixed in position within the fastening system without any risk of falling out during the performance of the task, thereby preventing the bolt from falling out during work at height and causing serious accidents to the technician.
[0012] In an example, the fixing device may be a ratchet mechanism. By using a ratchet mechanism, the fastening system is more reliable and safer.
[0013] In an example, the at least one clamping element may be a single piece.
[0014] In an example, the clamping element may comprise two separate pieces.
[0015] In an example, the clamping element may be made of a soft material to allow bolts of different sizes to be tightly arranged therein without causing any damage.
[0016] In an example, the fixing plate may further comprise a pivot pin, which connects the fixing plate to the support unit and thereby enables the fixing plate to rotate relative to the support unit. The pivot pin facilitates the release or introduction of the bolt into at least one clamping element, which facilitates the installation process and further shortens the installation time.
[0017] In an example, the fixing plate may further comprise a locking pin for releasably locking the fastening device to the belt. The locking pin allows blocking the position of the fastening device at a determined position on the belt and thereby making it possible to obtain a more versatile system.
[0018] In an example, the retaining device may be a rod, a lever or a crowbar.
[0019] In an example, the shape of the holding device may be any one of a U-shape, an L-shape or a straight shape. By having a U-shape or an L-shape holding device, the applied pressure may be increased and thus the clamping element may be held tightly. Thus a more secure fastening device may be obtained.
[0020] In an example, the fastening system may further comprise a sliding plate arranged at the side of the support unit to be in contact with the wind turbine tower. By using a sliding plate, any damage or scratching of the tower by the belt may be avoided or at least significantly reduced.
[0021] In an example, the slide plate may be made of a soft material to further protect the tower, such as coatings or paint, from damage caused by the belt. In an example, the material of the slide plate may be rubber.
[0022] In an example, the support unit may further include a hole configured to allow the belt to be inserted therein, thereby allowing the support unit to be movable along the belt.
[0023] By having holes in the support unit, it allows to easily align the bolts with their corresponding assembly holes in the flange. Thereby a more versatile fastening system is obtained which can be adapted to different towers.
[0024] In an example, the support unit may be fixedly attached to the belt.
[0025] In an example, the fastening system may further include a plurality of fastening devices.
[0026] By having a plurality of fastening devices, it is possible to carry a plurality of bolts, thereby reducing the installation time, since all the required bolts are transported together with the tower section at the same time when the tower section is lifted up to the assembly stage. By reducing the time to install at least one bolt, several trips of the moving lifting platform are avoided, thus being more efficient.
[0027] The number of up and down strokes that the mobile elevating work platform must make is reduced, making the fastening system safer because the technician must spend less time working at height. In addition, safety is improved because all bolts are securely fixed in place within the fastening system, preventing bolts from falling out during work at height and causing serious accidents to the technician.
[0028] Furthermore, having a plurality of fastening devices enables the fastening system to be adapted to the number of bolts required for a particular tower flange, i.e. a more versatile system is obtained. Since each fastening device can carry one bolt, the bolt capacity of the fastening system will be matched to the number of fastening devices. Thus, the number of fastening devices can be adapted to the number of assembly holes of the tower flange.
[0029] The tower flange may be a protruding edge or collar protruding from a tower section. The flange may be part of the tower section or may be a separate piece and may be used to hold it in place and give additional strength and / or rigidity. Furthermore, it may be a support area that may provide a place for attaching other objects, such as another tower section. The tower flange may have an assembly hole. The assembly hole of the tower flange may match the assembly hole of the next tower section, wherein the tower sections may then be fixed to each other by introducing bolts into the assembly holes to join the two tower sections.
[0030] In another aspect, a method of installing bolts in a wind turbine having a segmented tower having at least two tower sections, each tower section having a respective flange having a plurality of assembly holes is provided.A fastening system according to any of the examples described herein may be provided.
[0031] A fastening system is provided. The fastening system comprises a strap and at least one fastening device. The strap comprises a fixing device configured to tie the strap around the outer side portion of the wind turbine tower. The fastening device comprises a support unit as described above, at least one clamping element, a fixing plate and at least one fixing device.
[0032] A bolt is provided. The bolt is inserted into at least one clamping element of at least one fastening device. The bolt can be inserted into the at least one clamping element by rotating at least one holding device into an open position and then rotating the at least one clamping element relative to the support unit.
[0033] The bolt is then secured within the at least one clamping element by rotating the at least one clamping element in an opposite direction to tightly hold the bolt, and the at least one retaining device is rotated in an opposite direction to a closed position to further secure the bolt therein.
[0034] Once the bolts are placed in the fastening device, the band is then arranged around the outer part of the tower segment and tied to the outer part of the tower segment via the fixing device. The tower segment is then lifted and placed in a predetermined assembly position. In the predetermined assembly position, the assembly holes of the flanges of two tower segments (e.g. a pre-installed tower segment and a subsequent tower segment) are aligned. The tower segment can be placed in advance above the previously installed tower segment. Once the two segments are aligned, the bolts can be placed in the corresponding assembly holes.
[0035] Finally, the bolts are removed from the fastening device by rotating the holding device into the open position and rotating at least one clamping device to release the bolts. The bolts are inserted into corresponding assembly holes of the tower flange of the tower section. The band is removed from the tower section.
[0036] By using this method, the technician does not have to carry the bolts in a mobile elevating work platform, which cannot carry all the bolts in one operation due to its low load-bearing capacity. Therefore, the amount of operations that the technician must perform is reduced to a one-time operation. Therefore, this method is more efficient because it reduces the time to implement the task, and it improves safety because it also reduces the time the technician must work at height. [0050] Figure 1 A wind turbine 10 is depicted having a segmented tower 2 that includes a plurality of (e.g., four) tower sections 20, 30, 40, 50. Each tower section may include at least one outwardly protruding flange 22, 31, 32, 41, 42, 51. In some examples, each tower section may include a flange at each end, for example, tower section 40 may include flanges 41, 42. The flanges 22, 31, 32, 41, 42, 51 may have a plurality of assembly holes (not shown) configured to receive bolts.
[0051] The flanges 22, 31, 32, 41, 42, 51 can be used to connect two tower sections together. For example, the tower section 30 can be connected to the previously erected tower section 20 via the respective flanges 31 and 22. That is, during installation, the tower section 30 can be positioned on top of the previously erected tower section 20, and then, the tower sections 20, 30 can be aligned, i.e. the assembly holes of the corresponding flanges 22, 31 can be aligned. The tower sections 20-30 can then be fixed to each other by introducing the bolts 400 into the assembly holes.
[0052] Figure 2 A fastening system 100 is depicted, for example, to carry at least one bolt 400 during installation of a segmented tower 20. The fastening system 100 may include a strap 200 and a fastening device 300 (see FIG. Figure 3 ).
[0053] The strap 200 may be made of a strong, durable and / or resistant material that is capable of carrying the weight of properly secured bolts and at the same time maintaining the strap 200 tied to / around the tower section during transport and lifting. The strap 200 may be flexible and long enough to be tied around the tower section 30. The strap may be made of nylon or polyester fabric. The strap may include a securing device, such as a ratchet mechanism (not shown), to be secured to the tower.
[0054] The fastening device 300 may include a support unit 310, at least one clamping element 320, at least one fixing plate 330, at least one holding device 340, a pivot pin 350, a locking pin 360, as shown in FIG. Figure 2 As shown in .
[0055] The support unit 310 can be used to support at least one clamping element 320. The support unit 310 can have a first and a second mounting hole so that the fixing plate 330 can be pivotally mounted. The support unit 310 can be configured to be attached to the belt 200. The support unit 310 can have an insertion hole configured to allow the belt 200 to be inserted therein, thereby allowing the support unit 310 to be able to move along the belt. Alternatively, the support unit 310 can be fixed to the belt 200, such as by gluing it or using mechanical means such as screws. In those example cases, the support unit 310 may have a fixed position and may not be able to move along the belt 200.
[0056] The at least one clamping element 320 may be configured to hold the bolt 400 therein. The at least one clamping element 320 may be a single piece having a U-shape, or may include two separate pieces joined together to form a U-shape. The U-shape may improve the tighter retention of the bolt 400 because it may hold a large portion of the bolt 400 and may leave a gap to easily remove the bolt 400. The at least one clamping element 320 may be made of a soft material, such as rubber.
[0057] At least one clamping element 320 may be positioned in the support unit 310. The at least one clamping element 320 may have a fixing hole that can be used to connect it to the fixing plate 330, and the at least one clamping element 320 may have a retaining hole in which the at least one retaining device 340 may be pivotally mounted to facilitate the insertion or removal of the bolt 400.
[0058] The fixing plate 330 may allow the at least one clamping element 320 to rotate around the support unit 310 to facilitate the insertion or removal of the bolt 400. The fixing plate 330 may be pivotally mounted in the support unit 310 and may also be coupled to the at least one clamping element 320 so that the at least one clamping element 320 can rotate around the support unit 310.
[0059] The fixing plate 330 may also have a pivoting groove and a locking groove that match the first and second mounting holes of the supporting unit 310 , respectively.
[0060] The fixing plate 330 may also include a clamping slot and a retaining slot that may match and align with the fixing hole and the retaining hole of the at least one clamping element 320. Two pins may be introduced and may couple the fixing plate 330 to the at least one clamping element 320. One of the pins may also couple the retaining device 340 to the at least one clamping element so that the retaining device 340 can rotate relative to the at least one clamping element 320.
[0061] The at least one holding device 340 can also fix the bolt 400. The at least one holding device 340 can have two positions: an open position and a closed position. The closed position can be used to further fix the bolt 400 in the at least one clamping element 320. When moved to the open position, the bolt 400 can be released. The at least one holding device 340 can be placed by pressure 320 or pivotally mounted on the at least one clamping element 320. In the case where the at least one holding device 340 is pivotally mounted, the at least one holding device 340 can have a holding slot that matches the holding hole of the at least one clamping element 320.
[0062] The at least one holding device 340 may be elongated and may be straight or U-shaped. In the example where the at least one holding device 340 is U-shaped, retention of the bolt 400 may be improved because the at least one holding device 340 adds additional support to the at least one clamping element 320 by clamping it on both sides. The at least one holding device 340 may be made of a hard material such as plastic.
[0063] Figure 3 A fastening device 300 according to any disclosed example is shown, which may include a support unit 310, at least one clamping element 320, a fixing plate 330, at least one holding device 340. The fastening device 300 may also include a slide plate 370, which may protect the tower from scratches or any damage that the belt 200 may cause to the tower.
[0064] The support unit 310 may be flat or L-shaped, such as Figure 3 In the example where the support unit 310 is L-shaped, it can provide additional support for the at least one clamping element 320 , which improves the retention of the bolt 400 in the fastening device 100 .
[0065] The fastening device 300 may further include a pivot pin 350 for pivotally coupling the at least one clamping element 320 to the support unit 310 via the fixing plate 330. The fixing plate 330 may have a pivot slot matching the first mounting hole of the support unit 310, wherein the pivot slot and the first mounting hole may be aligned and the pivot pin 350 may be introduced to connect the fixing plate 330 to the support unit 310. Thus, the pivot pin 350 may enable the fixing plate 330 to rotate relative to the support unit 310. The fixing plate 330 may have at least two positions: an open position and a closed position. The fixing plate 330 may be configured to move from the closed position to the open position.
[0066] The fastening device 300 may further include a locking pin 360 that may block or unblock the fastening device 300 with respect to the belt 200 so as to secure and fix it in a predetermined position and allow the fastening device 300 to slide to another position along the belt 200. The fixing plate 330 may have a locking groove that matches the second mounting hole of the support unit 310. The locking groove and the second mounting hole may be aligned, and the locking pin 360 may be introduced to connect the fixing plate 330 with the support unit 310.
[0067] The locking pin 360 may be elongated and / or L-shaped. The locking pin 360 may have two positions: a locked position and a released position. In the locked position, the end of the locking pin 310 may apply pressure to the belt 200, thereby preventing the fastening device from moving along the belt 200. By rotating the locking pin 360 into the released position, the end of the locking pin 310 may not contact the belt 200, thereby allowing the fastening device 300 to move along the belt 200.
[0068] Figure 4A The fastening system 100 is depicted with the fixing plate 330 in an open position. The pivot pin 350 may enable the fixing plate 330 to rotate relative to the support unit 310, thus enabling the fixing plate 330 to be changed from the closed position to the open position. The open position may allow the bolt 400 to be inserted into or removed from the at least one clamping element 320.
[0069] Figure 4B The fastening system 100 is depicted, wherein the fixing plate 330 is in a closed position. In the closed position, the bolt 400 can be fixed in the clamping element 320. The bolt 400 can be further fixed by at least one holding device 340, which can hold at least one clamping element 320 with the support unit 310.
[0070] The at least one holding device 340 may be movable from a first position to a second position in which the at least one holding device 340 may connect the fixing plate 330 and the support unit 310 to further fix the bolt 400 within the at least one clamping element 320 .
[0071] Figure 5 A fastening system 100 is depicted, which may include a belt 200 and a plurality of fastening devices 300-305. Each of the fastening devices 300-305 may hold one bolt 400-405. The plurality of fastening devices 300-305 may be movable along the belt 200, or may be fixed to the belt 200. The bolt capacity at the fastening system 100 may match the number of fastening devices 300-305.
[0072] Figure 6 The fastening system 100 is depicted arranged in a tower section 40. The fastening system 100 may be fixed to the tower section 40 by means of a fixing device 210, such as a ratchet mechanism. Before the fastening system 100 is arranged to the tower section 40, a bolt 400 may be arranged into the fastening arrangement 300.
[0073] Figure 7 An alternative fastening system 100' is depicted, which may include a band 200' with a fixing device 210' (not shown) and a fastening device 300'. The fixing device 210' may be a ratchet mechanism. The fastening device 300' may include a support unit 310'. The support unit 300' may have a hole, and the band 200' may be introduced into the hole. The support unit 310' may be configured to support a bolt 400' between the support unit 310' and the tower flange 41. The shape of the support unit 310' may be L-shaped. A portion of the support unit 310' may have a hole, a recess or have a protruding portion so that the bolt 400' can be introduced therein to be supported, preferably, this portion of the support unit 310' is not in contact with the band 200'. Alternatively, the support unit 310' may be magnetic, so that the magnetic attraction force may hold the bolt 400', which may be supported in the support unit 310'. As another alternative, the bolt 400 ′ may be temporarily bonded to the support unit 310 ′ and removed for its installation.
[0074] The strap 200' may be arranged to the tower section. Each bolt 400' may be partially introduced into the assembly hole 3 of the tower flange, so each bolt 400' may be placed between the flange of the tower section and the support unit 310'.
[0075] Alternative fastening system 100' and Figure 2The fastening system 100 of is different in that the bolts 400 ′ can be arranged between the flange of the tower segment and the support unit 310 ′, wherein the bolts 400 ′ are partially introduced into the assembly holes 3 of the tower flange and supported in the support unit 310 ′. Figure 2 In the fastening system 100 of FIG. 1 , the bolt 400 is held in the fastening device 300 and does not come into contact with the tower flange 41 until the moment of installation.
[0076] Fig. 8A The process of providing a fastening system 100 and placing it in a tower section 40 is depicted. Once all bolts 400 are placed in the fastening system 100 by placing each bolt 400 into a fastening device 300. Thereafter, the belt 200 can be placed on the ground, and the tower section 40 can be placed in a platform beside the belt 200 so as to be at a higher height relative to the belt 200. A weight 700 can be placed on one of the ends of the belt 200 as a counterweight to keep the belt 200 on the ground, and the opposite end of the belt 200 can be pulled upwards, around the tower section 40, until it meets the end of the belt 200 having the weight 700, thereby closing the belt 200, as shown in FIG. Figure 8B As shown in .
[0077] Figure 8B A strap 200 is depicted arranged in a tower section 40. The strap 200 may be secured via a securing device 210, such as a ratchet mechanism.
[0078] Fig. 9 A flow chart of a method 900 for installing bolts 400 - 405 in a wind turbine 10 having a segmented tower 20 is shown.
