[0030] Reference Figures 1 to 19, reference numeral 10 generally designates an apparatus including a cabinet 12. The cabinet 12 includes an enclosure 14 and a liner 16 coupled to the enclosure 14. A vacuum insulation cavity 18 is defined between the enclosure 14 and the liner 16. A tap plate assembly 20 including tap plate assemblies 20a-20d is coupled to the apparatus 10. The tap plate assemblies 20a, 20b are coupled to a top plate 22 of the enclosure 14. Each of the tap plate assemblies 20a, 20b includes a base 24 coupled to the top plate 22 and a tap plate 26 having a first section 28 slidably coupled to the base 24 and a second section 30 extending from the first section 28 and away from the top plate 22. The second section 30 is configured to be coupled to an external structure 32. Fasteners 34 protrude outwardly from a first side panel 36 and a second side panel 38 of the enclosure 14, respectively. A pair of side trims 40 including side trims 40a, 40b are coupled to the first side panel 36 and the second side panel 38, respectively. Each side trim 40 defines a trim aperture 42 through which the fastener 34 extends. The fastener 34 engages with the pair of side trims 40 to couple the pair of side trims 40 to the first side panel 36 and the second side panel 38, respectively.

[0031] Reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 , the device 10 is shown as a refrigerator device having a door assembly 50 and a lower pull-out drawer 54, the door assembly 50 being operable to provide access to a refrigerator compartment 52, and the lower pull-out drawer 54 providing access to a freezer compartment 56. However, it is contemplated that the cabinet 12 having the shell 14, the liner 16, and the vacuum insulation cavity 18 can be used with various devices, structures, or storage purposes other than the device. In addition, the device 10 shown is a bottom-mounted refrigerator. In non-limiting examples, the device 10 can be a bottom-mounted refrigerator, a bottom-mounted French door refrigerator, and / or a five-door French door refrigerator.

[0032] In the depicted Figure 1 In the example of , the cabinet 12 includes a shell 14 coupled to a liner 16 and a trim breaker 70 to define a vacuum insulation chamber 18. The shell 14 includes a front edge 72 defining an opening 74, a rear panel 76 opposite the front edge 72, a top panel 22, and a bottom panel 78 opposite the top panel 22 and extending between the front edge 72 and the rear panel 76. The shell 14 also includes a first side panel 36 and an opposite second side panel 38, each of which extends between the front edge 72 and the rear panel 76. The shell 14 can be made of a material that at least partially resists bending, deformation, or otherwise forming in response to an inward compressive force. These materials for the shell 14 include, but are not limited to, metals, polymers, metal alloys, combinations thereof, and / or other similar substantially rigid materials that can be used for vacuum insulation structures.

[0033] Further references Figure 1 and Figure 2 , the liner 16 is at least partially surrounded by the enclosure 14. The liner 16 includes a front edge 90, a rear section 92 opposite the front edge 90, a top section 94, and a bottom section 96 opposite the top section 94 and extending between the front edge 90 and the rear section 92. The liner 16 also includes side sections 98, 100, each of which extends between the top section 94 and the bottom section 96. In addition, the liner 16 can have intermediate sections 102, 104 extending between the refrigeration chamber 52 and the freezer chamber 56. One intermediate section 102 can form a lower portion of the refrigeration chamber 52, and the second intermediate section 104 can form an upper portion of the freezer chamber 56. The intermediate sections 102, 104 can extend from the front edge 90 to the rear section 92, and are configured to separate the chambers 52, 56 and define a vertical frame area between them. In such a configuration, the liner 16 can be a plurality of parts.

[0034] like Figure 1 and Figure 2 As shown, each section 92, 94, 96, 98, 100 of the liner 16 is adjacent to a corresponding panel 76, 22, 78, 36, 38 of the enclosure 14. Similarly, the shape and size of each section 92, 94, 96, 98, 100 of the liner 16 can be consistent with the shape and size of the corresponding panel 76, 22, 78, 36, 38 of the enclosure 14. The liner 16 can be made of a material that at least partially resists bending, deformation, or otherwise forming in response to an inward compressive force. Such materials for the liner 16 include, but are not limited to, metals, polymers, metal alloys, combinations thereof, and / or other similar substantially rigid materials that can be used for vacuum insulation structures.

[0035] The decorative partition 70 couples the enclosure 14 to the liner 16 to define and seal the vacuum insulation cavity 18. The decorative partition 70 is generally disposed proximate the opening 74 of the enclosure 14. The decorative partition 70 includes one or more channels that receive the front edge 72 of the enclosure 14 and the front edge 90 of the liner 16. Adhesive is disposed within the one or more of the channels to couple the front edge 72 of the enclosure 14 and the front edge 90 of the liner 16 to the decorative partition 70 such that a sealed interface is defined. The enclosure 14, the liner 16, and the decorative partition 70 are sealed and airtight such that air can neither escape nor enter the vacuum insulation cavity 18 between the enclosure 14 and the liner 16.

[0036] Figures 1 to 4The illustrated apparatus 10 defines a vacuum insulation cavity 18 in which one or more insulation materials may be disposed. The insulation material may be a carbon-based powder and / or a silica-based material, however, it is generally contemplated that other insulation materials may be used. Additionally, the insulation material may be a free-flowing material that may be cast, blown, compacted, or otherwise disposed within the vacuum insulation cavity 18. Such free-flowing materials may be in the form of various silica-based materials, such as fumed silica, precipitated silica, nano-sized and / or micro-sized aerogels, powders, rice husk ash, powders, perlite, glass spheres, hollow glass spheres, coal cells, diatomaceous earth, combinations thereof, and / or other similar insulating particulate materials.

[0037] In various examples, one or more insulating materials can substantially fill the vacuum insulation cavity 18 to form a substantially continuous layer between the enclosure 14 and the liner 16. A vacuum or at least a partial vacuum can be defined within the vacuum insulation cavity 18, and a pressure difference between the exterior of the device 10 and the vacuum insulation cavity 18 can be defined. The pressure difference can be used to define an inward compressive force that can be applied to one and / or both of the enclosure 14 and the liner 16. In addition, the door assembly 50 and the lower pull-out drawer 54 can also be a vacuum insulation structure. In such an example, the door assembly 50 and / or the lower pull-out drawer 54 can have a structural enclosure that defines a vacuum insulation cavity having an insulating material and defines at least a partial vacuum.

[0038] Refer again Figure 1 and Figure 2 , the apparatus 10 includes a machine compartment 110 that houses components of a refrigerant system 112. The machine compartment 110 is shown below a bottom 114 of the rear panel 76, having an inner surface that may be at least partially defined by the cabinet 12. In some examples, a top area 116 of the machine compartment 110 is at least partially defined by the bottom 114 of the rear panel 76, such that the machine compartment 110 is positioned below the rear panel 76. According to various aspects, the machine compartment 110 may operably house various components or portions of components of the refrigerant system 112. The machine compartment 110 may also extend from the rear of the apparatus 10 to the front of the apparatus 10, thereby forming a bottom section between the enclosure 14 and the liner 16 or below the enclosure 14.

[0039] Further references Figure 2 and Figure 3, the device 10 may include a cover plate 130 that extends at least partially across the machine compartment 110. In some examples, the cover plate 130 is coupled to the front 132 of the cabinet 12. In various examples, the cover plate 130 can be disposed below the freezer compartment 56 and proximate the front edge 90 of the liner 16, the front edge 72 of the enclosure 14, and the floor 78 of the enclosure 14. The cover plate 130 can be coupled to a first end 134 of the machine compartment 110 and extend laterally to couple to a second end 136 of the machine compartment 110 opposite the first end 134. According to various aspects, the cover plate 130 can extend upward from the floor 78 and at least partially toward the top region 116 of the machine compartment 110, such that when the front 132 of the cabinet 12 is viewed, at least a portion of the machine compartment 110 is hidden behind the cover plate 130. In some aspects, the cover plate 130 can extend downward from the floor 78 and toward the external structure 32 (such as a floor below the device 10). In such aspects, the cover plate 130 may reduce or hide gaps that may occur between the base plate 78 and the external structure 32 beneath the device 10 .

[0040] Reference Figures 2 to 8 In some examples, the device 10 includes a tap plate assembly 20. The tap plate assembly 20 can be coupled to various locations throughout the device 10. For example, the tap plate assembly 20 can be coupled to the top plate 22 of the enclosure 14, the back plate 76 and / or the cover plate 130 of the enclosure 14, or to one of other various locations throughout the device 10.

[0041] The apparatus 10 may include a plurality of tap plate assemblies 20. For example, the plurality of tap plate assemblies 20 may include a first tap plate assembly 20a and a second tap plate assembly 20b coupled to opposite ends 150, 152 of the top plate 22 of the enclosure 14, and a third tap plate assembly 20c and a fourth tap plate assembly 20d, the first tap plate assembly 20a and the second tap plate assembly 20b being coupled to opposite ends 150, 152 of the top plate 22 of the enclosure 14, the third tap plate assembly 20c and the fourth tap plate assembly 20d being aligned substantially vertically relative to the first tap plate assembly 20a and the second tap plate assembly 20b, and being coupled to the cover plate 130 proximate the first end 134 and the second end 136 of the machine compartment 110. The first tap plate assembly 20a, the second tap plate assembly 20b, the third tap plate assembly 20c, and the fourth tap plate assembly 20d may be collectively referred to herein as the tap plate assemblies 20.

[0042] Additionally, it is generally contemplated that the apparatus 10 may include one or more tap plate assemblies 20 disposed at various locations throughout the apparatus 10. It is also contemplated that the tap plate assemblies 20 may be disposed at various locations throughout or along the apparatus 10 such that each tap plate assembly 20 or a portion thereof may translate and / or extend in a direction consistent with and / or different from different other tap plate assemblies 20. For example, a first tap plate assembly 20a disposed on the top plate 22 of the enclosure 14 and a third tap plate assembly 20c disposed on the cover plate 130 may both translate beyond the first side plate 36, and a second tap plate assembly 20b disposed on the top plate 22 and a fourth tap plate assembly 20d disposed on the cover plate 130 may both translate beyond the second side plate 38.

[0043] Still refer to Figure 2 and Figure 3 as well as Figures 4 to 8 , each tap plate assembly 20 includes a base 24. The base 24 can be coupled to the enclosure 14, the cover plate 130, or various other areas and / or components of the device 10. Each base 24 includes a base section 160, which generally defines an elongated or oblong shape, such as a rectangular shape, an elliptical shape, or various other feasible shapes. Each base section 160 defines a first stud aperture 162 and a second stud aperture 164, which can be aligned with the first stud aperture 162 along the width of the device 10 and have a shape consistent with the first stud aperture 162. The first stud aperture 162 and the second stud aperture 164 can operably receive a pair of studs 166 extending through the base section 160, respectively. Then, as provided herein, the studs 166 can be fastened and / or welded to the inner wall of the base 160 surrounding the stud apertures 162, 164.

[0044] Still refer to Figures 5 to 7, each base 24 includes a first side segment 180 and a second side segment 182 on opposite sides of the base segment 160. Each side segment 180, 182 can extend upward from the base segment 160 and then extend inwardly and toward the opposing side segment 180, 182, such that each side segment 180, 182 defines a lip 184. Each lip 184 generally defines a size and shape that slidably engages and maintains engagement with the corresponding side segment 180, 182. Additionally or alternatively, it is generally contemplated that each side segment 180, 182 can extend upward from the base segment 160 to various distances from the enclosure 14, and each side segment 180, 182 can extend inwardly toward the opposing side segment 180, 182 to various lengths, such that each lip 184 can define various heights, widths, and / or lengths. It is also generally contemplated that each lip 184 can also include various bends and / or shapes. For example, each lip 184 can include an at least partially circular portion.

[0045] Refer again Figures 2 to 7 , each tap plate assembly 20 includes a tap plate 26 slidably coupled to a base 24. Each tap plate 26 includes a first section 28 and a second section 30, the second section 30 extending outwardly from the first section 28 away from the enclosure 14 and intersecting the first section 28 at a tap plate corner section 190. As such, the first section 28, the second section 30, and the tap plate corner section 190 generally define an L-shape. Additionally or alternatively, it is generally contemplated that the second section 30 may extend at an acute angle, perpendicularly, at an obtuse angle, or parallel to the corresponding first section 28, so that a variety of shapes may be formed.

[0046] In aspects where the apparatus 10 includes multiple tap plate assemblies 20, it is also generally contemplated that multiple tap plates 26 may be disposed throughout or along the apparatus 10 in consistent or varying locations. Figure 2 In the example shown, the first section 28 of the first tap plate assembly 20a and the first section 28 of the second tap plate assembly 20b are respectively parallel to the top plate 22, while the first section 28 of the third tap plate assembly 20c and the first section 28 of the fourth tap plate assembly 20d are respectively parallel to the cover plate 130 and are substantially perpendicular to the first section 28 of the first tap plate assembly 20a and the first section 28 of the second tap plate assembly 20b. In addition, the second section 30 of the first tap plate assembly 20a and the second section 30 of the second tap plate assembly 20b each extend upward from the top plate 22, and are respectively substantially perpendicular to the second section 30 of the third tap plate assembly 20c and the second section 30 of the fourth tap plate assembly 20d extending outward from the cover plate 130.

[0047] According to various aspects, the first segment 28 can define a shape that conforms to the shape of the base 24. For example, the first segment 28 can define a quadrilateral shape that conforms to the quadrilateral shape of the base 24. In various aspects, the first segment 28 can be slidably coupled to the base 24 such that an inner surface 200 of the first segment 28 slidably engages an outer surface 202 of the base segment 160, respectively. In further aspects, for each tap plate assembly 20, the first segment 28 can include opposing side segments 204, 206 that engage a lip 184 defined by the first side segment 180 and the second side segment 182 of the base segment 160. For example, the first segment 28 can be slightly smaller than or undersized relative to the base 24 and slidably coupled to the base 24 such that the lip 184 extends over the opposing side segments 204, 206 to maintain engagement between the tap plate 26 and the base segment 160. In such an example, the lip 184 can limit the movement of the first segment 28 such that translation along the length of the lip 184 (eg, generally along the longitudinal extent of the base segment 160 ) is allowed while limiting or preventing movement perpendicular to the base segment 160 .

[0048] The lateral translation of the first section 28 of the tap plate 26 along the base 24 may be at least partially limited by the studs 166 and the slots 210 defined on the first section 28. In some examples, for each tap plate assembly 20, the slots 210 may be defined on the first section 28 and generally aligned with the first stud apertures 162 and the second stud apertures 164 of the base section 160. The slots 210 may also define a width that is consistent with the width of the first stud apertures 162 and / or the second stud apertures 164. In such examples, the width of the slots 210 that is consistent with the first stud apertures 162 and the second stud apertures 164 allows the studs 166 to extend from the device 10 (such as the enclosure 14) through the base section 160 and through the first section 28. In further aspects, the slots 210 may define a width that extends beyond the first stud apertures 162 and the second stud apertures 164. In such aspects, the width of the slot 210 may allow linear travel of the first segment 28 along the base 24 , with the abutment between the stud 166 and the inner wall 212 surrounding the slot 210 defining the amount of travel or movement of the first segment 28 relative to the base 24 .

[0049] Still refer to Figures 5 to 7, each tap plate assembly 20 can include a fastener 220 that operably couples the tap plate 26 to the base 24. In some examples, the fastener 220 can be coupled to the stud 166 via a threaded portion defined on the stud 166. In such an example, the fastener 220 can be configured as a nut that engages the threaded portion and is tightened until the nut 220 abuts an outer surface 222 of the first section 28 and defines a compressive force. The compressive force couples the first section 28 to the base 24. Additionally or alternatively, it is generally contemplated that the fastener 220 can be one of a variety of fasteners, such as a clip, a locking bar, a pin, and / or various other forms of fasteners.

[0050] The second section 30 of each tap plate 26 includes an engagement surface 230 and an inner surface 232 opposite the engagement surface 230. According to various aspects, the engagement surface 230 is configured to operably abut an external structure 32, such as an external cabinet 32 proximate the device 10. For example, the tap plate 26 can translate along the base section 160 and beyond the second side panel 38 of the enclosure 14 until the engagement surface 230 abuts the external structure 32 proximate the device 10. Additionally, in such aspects, it is generally contemplated that the angle of extension of the second section 30 relative to the first section 28 can be determined, at least in part, by the abutment between the engagement surface 230 and the external structure 32 surrounding the device 10. The tap plate 26 on the opposite side of the device 10 can translate beyond the first side panel 34 in an opposite direction to engage the external structure 32.

[0051] Further references Figures 5 to 7 , the engagement surface 230 of the tap plate 26 can be coupled to the external structure 32 via one or more fasteners. In some examples, the second segment 30 can define one or more second segment apertures 240 that extend from the engagement surface 230 to the inner surface 232, respectively. In such examples, the second segment apertures 240 can be configured to allow one or more fasteners 220 to extend through the respective second segment apertures 240 and into the external structure 32. For example, the second segment 30 can define a pair of second segment apertures 240 that receive a pair of screws 220 that then extend through the pair of second segment apertures 240 and into the external structure 32. The pair of screws 220 can then be tightened relative to the external structure 32 until the heads of the screws abut the inner surface 232 and exert a fixing force on the second segment 30, thereby coupling the tap plate assembly 20 to the external structure 32.

[0052] Still refer to Figures 2 to 7, each tap plate assembly 20 allows the device 10 to be coupled to the external structure 32. In particular, the sliding adjustment of the tap plate 26 relative to the base segment 160 allows each tap plate assembly 20 to be linearly adjusted until each tap plate assembly 20 abuts the external structure 32. For example, the first tap plate assembly 20a and the second tap plate assembly 20b at the top plate 22 of the enclosure 14 can extend outwardly and beyond the side plates 36, 38 of the enclosure 14 until the second segment 30 of the tap plate 26 abuts the external structure 32. Similarly, the third tap plate assembly 20c and the fourth tap plate assembly 20d disposed on the cover plate 130 can then extend outwardly from the cover plate 130 and beyond the side plates 36, 38 of the enclosure 14 to abut the external structure 32.

[0053] According to various aspects, each tap plate assembly 20 can be coupled to the external structure 32 via the tap plate 26 and fasteners after being adjusted to abut the external structure 32. In this manner, the device 10 is coupled to the external structure 32 via each tap plate assembly 20.

[0054] Reference Figures 8 to 19 , the device 10 includes a trim assembly 250 coupled to the enclosure 14. The trim assembly 250 may include a side trim 40, which may include trims 40a, 40b, which may be collectively referred to herein as trim 40. The trim 40 is operably coupled to the enclosure 14. In some examples, the trim assembly 250 includes a first side trim 40a coupled to the first side panel 36 and a second side trim 40b coupled to the second side panel 38, and may include a top trim extending outward from the top panel 22 of the enclosure 14. In different aspects, the first trim 40a and the second trim 40b may both extend from the bottom panel 78 of the enclosure 14 to the top panel 22 of the enclosure 14.

[0055] According to various aspects, the first trim piece 40a and the second trim piece 40b are configured to extend outwardly from the enclosure 14 such that a space between the device 10 and the external structure 32 is at least partially concealed. Additionally, it is generally contemplated that the first trim piece 40a and the second trim piece 40b can be a mirror image configuration of the other first trim piece 40a, 40b, such that the additional aspects of each trim piece 40a, 40b provided herein can also be aspects of the other corresponding trim piece 40a, 40b.

[0056] According to various aspects, each side trim 40 includes a first section 254 proximate the front 132 of the cabinet 12 and a second section 256 extending rearwardly from the first section 254. In various aspects, the length of the first section 254 can be greater than, equal to, or less than the length of the second section 256. For example, the first section 254 can have a length greater than the second section 256, such that the first section 254 extends beyond opposite ends of the second section 256. The greater length of the first section 254 relative to the second section 256 allows the first section 254 to largely conceal a space that may exist between the device 10 and the external structure 32.

[0057] Reference Fig. 9 and Fig.10 , each side trim 40 defines a first slot 260 at a top end 262 proximate the top panel 22 of the enclosure 14, and defines a second slot 264 at an opposite bottom end 266 proximate the bottom panel 78 of the enclosure 14. According to various aspects, the top end 262 and the bottom end 266 of each side trim 40 can be defined on the first segment 254 and / or the second segment 256 of the side trim 40, respectively. The first slot 260 and the second slot 264 are elongated slots and are configured to receive a fastener 268 that can at least partially couple the side trim 40 to the enclosure 14. As provided herein, the first slot 260 and the second slot 264 are configured to allow linear adjustment of the side trim 40 relative to the height of the device 10 during installation to the device 10.

[0058] Refer again Figures 8 to 17 , the side trim 40 defines a plurality of decorative apertures 42 between the first slot 260 and the second slot 264. The plurality of decorative apertures 42 include a plurality of decorative apertures 42 that are intermittently spaced apart so that a pattern can be defined. Each decorative aperture 42 can have a variety of sizes and can define one of a quadrilateral, a circle, an ellipse, or a variety of other shapes. In some examples, as provided herein, the size and / or shape of each decorative aperture 42 can be at least partially determined by a plurality of fasteners 34.

[0059] Each side trim 40 is coupled to the enclosure 14 via a plurality of fasteners 34. The fasteners 34 are intermittently spaced apart so that a pattern can be defined. In some examples, the number of fasteners 34 and the locations of the fasteners 34 generally coincide with the number of decorative apertures 42 and the locations of the decorative apertures 42. According to various aspects, the fasteners 34 are configured to extend through the decorative apertures 42 and engage with the side trim 40, wherein the engagement operably couples the side trim 40 to the enclosure 14.

[0060] Still refer to Figures 8 to 11, the plurality of fasteners 34 may be configured as a plurality of clips 270. The clips 270 may include a first plurality of clips 270a and a second plurality of clips 270b, which may be collectively referred to herein as clips 270. Each clip 270 includes a foot segment 272 coupled to the enclosure 14 and a coupling segment 274 extending from the foot segment 272. The foot segment 272 may be coupled to the enclosure 14 via one or more fasteners, welds, adhesives, and / or other various couplings, as long as the vacuum within the vacuum insulation cavity 18 is maintained. The foot segment 272 may define one of a variety of shapes, such as a quadrilateral, a circle, and / or one of a variety of other shapes.

[0061] The engagement segment 274 of each clip 270 may include a proximal segment 280 and a distal segment 282. The proximal segment 280 may be coupled to or integrally formed with the foot segment 272. The proximal segment 280 may extend from the foot segment 272 at an acute angle, perpendicularly, or at an obtuse angle. The distal segment 282 may also be coupled to or integrally formed with the proximal segment 280. The distal segment 282 may extend from the foot segment 272 at an acute angle, perpendicularly, or at an obtuse angle.

[0062] For example, for each clip 270, the distal segment 282 can intersect the proximal segment 280 at the corner segment 284 and extend from the proximal segment 280 such that the foot segment 272 and the distal segment 282 are generally parallel. According to various aspects, the distal segment 282 can define one of a variety of shapes, such as a quadrilateral shape, a circular shape to facilitate insertion through the decorative aperture 42, and / or one of a variety of other shapes. It is also generally contemplated that the distal segment 282 can have a different or consistent width, thickness, and / or length than the proximal segment 280. For example, the distal segment 282 can have a greater width than the proximal segment 280, wherein the greater width helps support the side decorative member 40.

[0063] like Fig. 9 and Fig.11 As shown, the engagement segment 274 can extend through the trim aperture 42 and extend above the trim aperture 42. In particular, the proximal segment 280 of the engagement segment 274 can extend through the trim aperture 42 and toward the top end 262 of the side trim 40, and the distal segment 282 can extend further upward and toward the top end 262 of the side trim 40.

[0064] According to various aspects, the side trim 40 can be coupled to the enclosure 14 by first aligning the decorative aperture 42 with the clip 270. The side trim 40 can then be positioned such that the engagement segment 274 of each clip 270 extends through the corresponding decorative aperture 42. The side trim 40 can then be translated downward to an installed state, in which the downward translation accordingly provides an abutment between the inner wall 290 surrounding the decorative aperture 42 and the abutment surface 292 extending along the engagement segment 274. The abutment is then maintained by the force of gravity acting on the side trim 40, which further provides a fixed coupling between the side trim 40 and the enclosure 14. Since the size (i.e., width and length) of the clip 270 is comparable to the size of the decorative aperture 42, this coupling in turn reduces the side to side movement of the side trim 40.

[0065] According to various aspects, the decorative aperture 42 can have a shape that is consistent with the clip 270. In some aspects, the decorative aperture 42 can have a quadrilateral shape that allows the clip 270 to be inserted into the decorative aperture 42. In such aspects, the quadrilateral shape can allow the distal segment 282 to be equal to or slightly undersized relative to each distal segment 282. In addition, it is generally contemplated that each side trim 40 defines a decorative aperture recess 296 above the decorative aperture 42, respectively. The decorative aperture recess 296 can in turn allow for abutment between a central recessed area 298 of the clip 270 and an inner wall 290 surrounding the decorative aperture recess 296. It is generally contemplated that the abutment between the recessed area 298 and the inner wall 290 and the size of the decorative aperture recess 296 relative to the recessed area 298 reduce the side-to-side movement of the clip 270.

[0066] Refer again Figures 12 to 17 , the plurality of fasteners 34 may be configured as a plurality of studs 300 extending outwardly from the enclosure 14. Each stud 300 includes a foot segment 302, which may be coupled to the enclosure 14 via one or more fasteners, welds, adhesives, and / or other various couplings. The foot segment 302 may define one or more shapes, such as a quadrilateral shape, a circular shape, and / or other various possible shapes. According to various aspects, each side trim 40 may define a foot segment recess 304 on an inner surface 306 of the side trim 40, the foot segment recess 304 having a shape and / or size consistent with the shape and size of the foot segment 302. In such a configuration, the foot segment recess 304 may allow flush contact between the inner surface 306 of the side trim 40 and the enclosure 14 by having a size and / or shape consistent with the shape and size of the foot segment 302. In some aspects, foot section recess 304 is slightly oversized relative to foot section 302 and has a shape that conforms to foot section 302 in order to guide foot section 302 into foot section recess 304 .

[0067] Still refer to Figures 12 to 17 , each stud 300 may include a neck 310 extending outwardly from the foot segment 302. In particular, the neck 310 extends outwardly from the foot segment 302 and the enclosure 14 and through the corresponding decorative aperture 42. The neck 310 may be coupled to the foot segment 302 or formed integrally with the foot segment 302. In various aspects, the neck 310 has a shape and size that may be consistent with or different from the shape and size of the foot segment 302. For example, the width of the neck 310 may be less than the width of the foot segment 302. The neck 310 is allowed to extend through the corresponding decorative aperture 42 by having a smaller width than the foot segment 302, while the foot segment 302 is retained within the foot segment recess 304. According to various aspects, the neck 310 may be engaged with a fastener, such as a decorative nut 312 or an E-clip 314, to couple the side trim 40 to the enclosure 14.

[0068] Still refer to Figure 12 to Figure 14 , each stud 300 can define a threaded portion 320 along its neck 310. The threaded portion 320 allows engagement between the neck 310 of the stud 300 and a corresponding decorative nut 312 defining a mating threaded portion. For example, the threaded portion 320 can define a number of threads and a pitch that is consistent with the number of threads and a pitch on the decorative nut 312. According to various aspects, the decorative nut 312 can be engaged with the threaded portion 320 and tightened inwardly and toward the foot section 302 until a compressive force is applied to the side trim 40. The compressive force applied to the side trim 40 by each decorative nut 312 engaged with the corresponding neck 310 of the stud 300 can fully couple the side trim 40 to the enclosure 14.

[0069] Refer again Figures 15 to 17 , each stud 300 may include a head 330 at one end of the neck 310. The head 330 may be coupled or integrally formed with the neck 310 of the stud 300. The head 330 may have a shape and / or size that is consistent with or different from the shape and size of the neck 310 and / or the foot section 302. For example, the head 330 may define a cylindrical shape coaxial with the cylindrical shape of the neck 310, wherein the width of the head 330 and the foot section 302 is greater than the width of the neck 310. In addition, the head 330 may define a cylindrical shape coaxial with the cylindrical shape of the neck 310 and the foot section 302, wherein the head 330 has a width greater than the neck 310 and / or less than the foot section 302. In such an aspect, the smaller width of the head 330 relative to the foot section 302 allows the head 330 and neck 310 to be inserted through the foot section recess 304 while still retaining the foot section 302 within the foot section recess 304 .

[0070] According to various aspects, the stud 300 can be configured to receive the E-shaped clip 314. In particular, the foot section 302, the neck 310, and the head 330 can each have a shape and / or size that defines a groove 340. The groove 340 is configured to receive the E-shaped clip 314. For example, the width of the foot section 302 and the head 330 is greater than the width of the neck 310, wherein the smaller width of the neck 310 defines the groove 340.

[0071] The reduced width of the neck 310 may be such that a groove 340 is defined around the periphery of the stud 300. In such an example, the width and / or thickness of the head 330 and foot segment 302 may be determined at least in part by the width of the E-clip 314. For example, the foot segment 302 and / or head 330 may have a width and thickness such that a groove 340 is defined outside of an outer surface 342 of the side trim 40, and the E-clip 314 abuts the outer surface 342 and the head 330 of the stud 300. The abutment of the E-clip 314 on the outer surface 342 and the head 330 provides a retention that couples the side trim 40 to the enclosure 14.

[0072] Now refer to Fig.18 and Fig.19 , each side trim 40 includes a first section 254 and a second section 256. As provided herein, the first section 254 is disposed proximate to the front 132 of the cabinet 12, and the second section 256 extends rearwardly from the first section 254. In some examples, the second section 256 may extend substantially parallel to the first section 254. In other aspects, the second section 256 may extend from the first section 254 at an acute angle or at an obtuse angle. In other aspects, the second section 256 may be offset from the first section 254. For example, the side trim 40 may define a step section 350 between the first section 254 and the second section 256, wherein the step section 350 extends from the first section 254 and / or the second section 256 at an acute angle or at an obtuse angle. In addition, the first section 254, the second section 256, and the step section 350 may define various shapes, sizes, and thicknesses that may be consistent or different from the other sections 254, 256, 350.

[0073] According to various aspects, the side trim 40 or a portion thereof can be made of a material that provides or defines a spring tension. In some examples, the first segment 254 of the side trim 40 defines a spring tension that allows the first segment 254 to bend or elastically deform. For example, the first segment 254 can be made of a material having sufficient spring tension so that the first segment 254 can bend outward toward the outer cabinet 32 to reduce the visible gap between the side trim 40 and the outer cabinet 32. The first segment 254 can then be coupled to the outer cabinet 32 via the first segment fastener 360.

[0074] In addition, it is generally contemplated that various other segments 256, 350 of the side trim 40 can define spring tension. For example, the step segment 350 can define a spring tension such that the first segment 254 moves about the step segment 350 toward the outer cabinet 32. According to various aspects, the spring tension can cause the first segment 254 to be biased away from the outer structure 32 and toward the device 10 when separated from the outer structure 32 and / or when no outwardly directed force is applied to the first segment 254. This spring tension, in turn, allows the device 10 to be adjusted relative to the outer structure 32 when the first segment 254 is away from the outer structure 32 and / or separated from the outer structure 32. In addition, the spring tension can provide structural integrity to the side trim 40 when the first segment 254 is repeatedly moved outward from the device 10 toward the outer structure 32.

[0075] According to various aspects, the side trim 40 can define one or more elongated apertures 364 that help allow the first section 254 to bend toward the outer structure 32. In some aspects, the first section 254 and / or the step section 350 define an elongated aperture 364 along the first section 254 and / or the step section 350. By extending along the height of the side trim 40, the elongated aperture 364 reduces the amount of material of the side trim 40. The reduction in material in turn reduces the weight of the side trim 40 and can reduce the amount of force used to bend the first section 254 toward the outer structure 32. For example, the first section 254 can define the elongated aperture 364 so that material is removed from the first section 254, so that the bending moment of the side trim 40 requires less force.

[0076] Reference Fig.19 , each side trim 40 may define a widened region 370. In some examples, the widened region 370 may be defined by a bend in the first section 254. Fig.19 As shown, the first section 254 may define a U-shaped bend providing a widened region 370. The widened region 370 is positioned in the space defined between the enclosure 14 and the external cabinet 32 such that the space is reduced or hidden due to the abutment of the widened region 370 with the enclosure 14 and the external cabinet 32.

[0077] Reference Figures 1 to 19 , the apparatus 10 having the tap plate assembly 20 that can be coupled to the enclosure 14 provides an apparatus 10 that can be housed and coupled to a variety of housings (e.g., the structure 32). In particular, the slidability of the tap plate 26 along the base section 160 allows for adjustability of the tap plate 26 relative to the external cabinet 32 before being secured to the base 24 via the nut 220. This adjustability allows the tap plate 26 to be selectively positioned depending on the position of the external cabinet 32 relative to the apparatus 10.

[0078] Additionally, the use of the clip 270 with the side trim 40 provides for efficient installation of the side trim 40. In particular, by having a foot segment 272 and an engagement segment 274 offset from and extending from the foot segment 272, the clip 270 allows the side trim 40 to be installed to the enclosure 14 by positioning the plurality of trim apertures 42 of the side trim 40 relative to the clip 270 and translating the side trim 40 generally downward. Once translated downward, the side trim 40 is coupled to the enclosure 14 via the engagement between the clip 270 and the side trim 40.

[0079] In addition, coupling the side trim 40 to the enclosure 14 using the studs 300 and the trim nuts 312 also provides for efficient installation of the side trim 40. In particular, by defining a threaded portion 320 and extending through the plurality of trim apertures 42, the studs 300 allow the side trim 40 to be installed by positioning the plurality of trim apertures 42 over the plurality of studs 300 and then tightening the plurality of trim nuts 312 onto the plurality of studs 300.

[0080] In addition, the use of multiple studs 300 and the engagement between the E-clip 314 and the groove 340 of the stud 300 also provide for efficient installation of the side trim 40. In particular, by defining a groove 340 between the foot section 302 and the head 330, the stud 300 allows the side trim 40 to be installed by positioning multiple decorative apertures 42 above the multiple studs 300 and then snapping the E-clip 314 onto each corresponding groove 340.

[0081] In addition, the spring tension of the side trim 40 allows the side trim 40 to reduce or hide the space that may exist between the device 10 and the external structure 32. In particular, the spring tension of the side trim 40 allows bending of the side trim 40 or its segments 254, 256, 350 so that the side trim 40 can be bent toward the external structure 32 and fastened to the external structure 32, so that the space can be reduced or hidden.

[0082] In addition, the widened area 370 of the side trim 40 also allows the side trim 40 to reduce or hide the space that may exist between the device 10 and the external structure 32 (e.g., the external cabinet 32). In particular, the widened area 370 of the side trim 40 reduces or hides the space between the device 10 and the external structure 32 by having a widened width.

[0083] According to various examples, the tap plate assembly 20, side trim 40 and / or various components of the device 10 provided herein can be used in various devices. These devices can include, but are not limited to, refrigerators, freezers, coolers, dishwashers, and other similar devices and fixtures within home and commercial environments.

[0084] Further references Figures 1 to 19 , the present invention provides various advantages. For example, the use of the tap plate assembly 20 provides an apparatus 10 that can be coupled to an external structure 32 (e.g., an external cabinet) that can be at different distances from the apparatus 10. In particular, the tap plate 26 can be linearly adjusted by being slidably coupled to the base 24 until the tap plate 26 abuts the external structure 32, wherein the tap plate 26 can then be coupled to the external structure 32 and secured to the base 24. In addition, by coupling to the enclosure 14 without piercing the vacuum insulation cavity 18, the tap plate assembly 20 advantageously allows the apparatus 10 to be coupled to external structures 32 of different sizes and at different distances from the apparatus 10 while still maintaining the vacuum within the vacuum insulation cavity 18.

[0085] In addition, the plurality of fasteners 34 disposed on the enclosure 14 further provide various advantages. For example, the plurality of fasteners 34 extending through the plurality of decorative apertures 42 defined on the side trim 40 allow the side trim 40 to be effectively coupled to the enclosure 14. In particular, the side trim 40 can be positioned so that the plurality of fasteners 34 are inserted through the plurality of decorative apertures 42 and the side trim 40 is coupled to the enclosure 14. In particular, the extension of the fasteners 34 through the decorative apertures 42 provides for effective alignment of the side trim 40 on the enclosure 14, and the coupling between the fasteners 34 and the decorative apertures 42 provides for effective installation. In addition, the plurality of fasteners 34 allow the side trim 40 to be effectively installed by coupling to the enclosure 14 without piercing the vacuum insulation cavity 18, while still maintaining the vacuum within the vacuum insulation cavity 18.

[0086] Refer again Figures 1 to 19 , the side trim 40 further provides additional advantages. For example, in aspects where the side trim 40 has one or more segments 254, 256, 350 with spring tension, the side trim 40 can effectively reduce or eliminate the gap between the device 10 and the external structure 32, while also allowing the first segment 254 to be separated from the external structure 32 and allowing the device 10 to be adjusted relative to the external structure 32. In addition, the spring tension of the side trim 40 advantageously provides a range of allowable spaces between the device 10 and the external structure 32 because the side trim 40 can be bent and coupled to the external structure 32 at different distances from the device 10. This variation, in turn, allows devices 10 of different sizes to be placed into the gap or cavity defined by the external structure 32.

[0087] Similarly, in aspects where the side trim 40 has a widened region 370, such as when the first segment 254 defines a generally U-shape, the side trim 40 can also effectively reduce or eliminate gaps between the device 10 and the external structure 32 because the widened region 370 has a width extending from the device 10 to the external structure 32. Additionally, by being wedged between the device 10 and the external structure 32, the widened region 370 can eliminate gaps between the device 10 and the external structure 32 while also providing a retention force that can help hold the device 10 in a fixed position. Additional benefits and advantages of the components disclosed herein can be achieved and / or obtained.
