Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of producing interfolded sheet products. In this technical field, interfolding machines are usually used to ensure that interfolded sheet products are formed by cutting or perforating a continuous strip of material, which usually originates from roll unwinding. More specifically, the present invention relates to a machine, a system and a method that can obtain sheet products of different lengths, a feature that is usually called cut-off. Background Art
[0002] It is known that there are many advantages to using interfolded packages produced by interfolding machines, such as those described in US 4494741A or EP 2437994 B1. In similar interfolding machines, for example, reference is made to EP 2437994 B1. Figure 1 , during the unfolding and folding of the strip, cuts or lines or pre-cut perforations or tear lines are realized in order to produce sheet products. They are moved by rollers called folding rollers and folded by folding fingers, which collect them from the folding rollers and insert them between the sheets coming from the opposite side and folded by other folding elements. Typically, the interfolding machine comprises an interfolding unit, which comprises a folding roller, a cutting roller and a folding element, or a cutting folding roller and a folding element, which rollers are arranged relative to each other so as to operate on different strips from which interfolded sheet products are obtained. The cutting roller or cutting folding roller is usually matched with a blade or a counter blade, which is fixed and arranged near the cutting roller and supported by a beam fixed to the frame. Typically, the folding roller or cutting folding roller is provided with recesses and channels, in which depressions are formed so as to attract the sheet products and bring them into the area where the stack is formed. The folding element enters and exits the grooves formed on the folding roller, separates the sheet products and produces the folds.
[0003] The diameter of the roller is determined by the required length of the sheet product; usually, the circumference of the roller must be a multiple of the required length. Therefore, each time a sheet product of a different length needs to be processed, the roller needs to be replaced. Therefore, the blade and the counter-blade must also be adapted to the new size and / or configuration of the roller. Therefore, the beam fixed to the frame must be disassembled and a new beam installed, an operation that requires time and technical expertise and requires the storage of the replaced beam, with the risk of damaging the beam during transportation.
[0004] The present invention aims to obviate one or more disadvantages of prior art solutions. Summary of the invention
[0005] A first object of the invention is to simplify the reconfiguration of the interfolding machine when it is necessary to adjust the production, ie to change the length (cut-off) of the sheet-form articles.
[0006] A second object is to reduce the risk of wrong positioning and / or damage to the fixed blade or the opposing blade due to the replacement of the beam. Another object, in particular some embodiments, is to provide a system or an interfolding machine in which the replacement of the rollers is particularly easy and fast.
[0007] Another object is to allow the teachings of the present invention to be utilized in existing systems.
[0008] These and other objects, which will become more apparent to the expert upon reading the following, are achieved by an interfolding machine for producing sheet products for interfolded packaging from strips, and a system and method for changing the length of sheet products for interfolded packaging produced by the interfolding machine according to the claims.
[0009] According to the teachings of this document, an interfolding machine includes a first roller unit, a frame, a moving device, a first cutting tool, and a beam.
[0010] The first roller unit comprises a cutting tool and a first roller for guiding the strip, the first roller carrying the cutting tool.
[0011] The frame includes a seat body accommodating the first roller unit.
[0012] The moving device moves the first roller to rotate relative to the frame about the rotation axis.
[0013] The beam carries the first cutting tool and is fixed to the frame in a first position in which the first cutting tool has a relative first position with respect to the axis of rotation for cutting or scoring the strip with the cutting tool of the first roller unit.
[0014] The first roller unit is interchangeable with another roller unit in order to change the distance between the cuts or scores in the strip and thus the length of the sheet product.
[0015] The interfolding machine advantageously also includes a second cutting tool; the beam brings the second cutting tool to a different position relative to the first cutting tool and can be fixed to the frame in the second position, in which the second cutting tool has a relative second position relative to the rotation axis, which is different from the relative first position so that the strip can be cut or scored with the cutting tool of another roller unit.
[0016] The system comprises an interfolding machine as described in this specification and a further roller unit comprising a dedicated cutting tool and a further roller for guiding the strip, the further roller carrying the dedicated cutting tool.
[0017] The first roller is configured to rotate about a first axis and bring the dedicated cutting tool to a first distance from the first axis, while the other roller is configured to rotate about a second axis and bring the dedicated cutting tool to a second distance from the second axis, the second distance being different from the first distance.

[0036] Referring to the drawings, reference numeral "10" denotes an interfolding machine for producing interfolded packaging sheet products from strips. References are incorporated to facilitate understanding of the present invention and are not intended to limit the scope of protection of the present invention.
[0037] One embodiment of an interfolding machine (10) comprises:
[0038] a first roller unit (3a) comprising a cutting tool (30a) and a first roller (33a) for guiding the strip, the first roller (33a) carrying the cutting tool (30a);
[0039] - a frame (1) comprising a housing (11) for housing a first roller unit (3a);
[0040] - a moving device (4) which moves the first roller (33a) in rotation relative to the frame (1) about the axis of rotation (A);
[0041] - a first cutting tool (51);
[0042] - a second cutting tool (52);
[0043] - a beam (50) carrying a first cutting tool (51) and fixed to the frame (1) in a first position in which the first cutting tool (51) has a first relative position with respect to the axis of rotation (A) in order to cut or score the strip with the cutting tool (30a) of the first roller unit (3a).
[0044] In the interfolding machine (10) according to the invention, the first roller unit (3a) is interchangeable with the further roller unit (7a) in order to change the distance between the cuts or scores in the strip and thus the length of the sheet product.
[0045] The beam (50) advantageously brings the second cutting tool (52) to a different position relative to the first cutting tool (51) and can be fixed to the frame (1) in the second position, in which the second cutting tool (52) has a relative second position relative to the rotation axis (A), which is different from the relative first position, so as to cut or score the strip with the cutting tool (70a) of another roller unit (7a).
[0046] The interfolding machine (10) according to the invention is able to quickly change the cut-off and thus the length of the sheet-form product determined by the cut or notch achieved by the cooperation of the first cutting tool (51) with the first roller unit (3a) or the cooperation of the second cutting tool (52) with the other roller unit (7a). Moreover, such a change does not require moving the beam (50) away from the interfolding machine and risking damage, nor does it require preventing the beam (50) from being mispositioned, which could have a negative impact on the quality of the interfolded package.
[0047] The beam (50) is preferably rotatable relative to the frame (1) about the axis (X) so that the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) are orientable in a first relative position and a second relative position, respectively, relative to the axis (X).
[0048] Thus, the beam 50 can be easily moved to the first position or the second position, for example using a device similar to Figure 7 For example, Figure 5 Shows relative to Figure 4 A small rotation of Figure 6 The removal of the first roller unit (3a) is shown.
[0049] A person skilled in the art will understand how to appropriately arrange the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) so as to be in relatively suitable positions downstream of the rotation of the beam (50).
[0050] The first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) are preferably directed in opposite directions relative to the beam (50); in this way, it is easier to replace the first cutting tool (51) or the second cutting tool (52).
[0051] Nevertheless, the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) may be located on adjacent sides, for example one facing sideways and the other facing upwards.
[0052] The first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) preferably both comprise a blade or a counter blade. The beam (50) comprises a first support portion (54a) for accommodating the blade of the first cutting tool (51) and a second support portion for accommodating the blade of the second cutting tool (52). The first support portion (54a) and the second support portion are configured to adapt the blade to the cutting tool (30a, 70a) of the first roller unit (3a) or the other roller unit (7a), respectively.
[0053] Thus, it is possible to arrange standard blades or counter blades and adapt the first support portion (54a) or the second support portion to a specific application. In the accompanying drawings, the second support portion is not visible in its extension, but it is substantially similar to the first support portion (54a). In practice, blades or counter blades identical to each other can be used for the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52).
[0054] More preferably, both the first support portion (54a) and the second support portion have a spiral development, and the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) comprise blades or counter-blades fixedly resting on the respective support portion (54a) so as to follow the spiral development; the blades or counter-blades are preferably identical to each other. The spiral development enables an improved interaction between the cutting tools due to a scissors-like effect. For example, the first cutting tool (51) gradually cooperates with the cutting tool (30a) so as to cut the strip continuously in points or areas in the direction of the rotation axis (A).
[0055] The first cutting tool (51) and / or the second cutting tool (52) are preferably held in position by a first stop (56) or by a second stop (57), respectively. Fig.10 It is shown how the first stop (56) forces the blade to follow the helical development of the first support portion (54a) due to the screw.
[0056] The beam (50) preferably includes a central portion (53), a first support (54) supporting a first cutting tool (51), and a second support (55) supporting a second cutting tool (52). The first support (54) and the second support (55) are removably fixed to the central portion (53).
[0057] The beam (50) can be easily and quickly adapted to a particular application. Fig.11 In the embodiment of the present invention, the first support member (54) includes a first support portion (54a), and the second support member (55) includes a second support portion as described above.
[0058] The beam (50) is preferably movable translationally relative to the frame (1) toward or away from the axis of rotation (A) between a working position and a rest position, in which the first cutting tool (51) cooperates with the cutting tool (30a) of the first roller unit (3a), and in the rest position, the first cutting tool (51) is located on one side of the first roller (33a) so as to be interchangeable with another roller unit (7a).
[0059] Thus, it is possible to further facilitate the cut-off replacement, as well as the possible rotation of the beam (50) about the axis (X). Figures 3 to 6 It can be observed that the first cutting tool (51) is first moved away from the first roller (33a) in order to be able to be exchanged with another roller unit (73a), and the beam (50) is rotated in order to bring the second cutting tool (52) towards the rotation axis (A).
[0060] In the accompanying drawings and Figure 1 In the embodiment shown, it can be observed that the interfolding machine (10) preferably comprises a linear guide (8) enabling the beam (50) to be translated relative to the frame (1). More preferably, as in the embodiment shown, a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder (9) moves the beam (50) relative to the frame (1) along the linear guide (8).
[0061] The rotation may be performed manually or automatically using, for example, a stepper motor.
[0062] The interfolding machine (10) preferably includes a blocking device for holding the beam (50) in the operating position. Figure 1 in and Fig.14 In the relative detail shown in , it is possible to observe a block (60) which, by using one or more screws (61) or pins, firmly constrains the support (59a) and the central portion (53) of the beam (50) to each other, thereby preventing them from rotating about the axis X.
[0063] The rotation of the beam (50) can be ensured by roller bearings or sliding bearings, for example Figure 8 Two roller bearings (58) can be seen, which enable the central part (53) to rotate relative to the support (59a) connected to the linear guide (8).
[0064] Figure 1An embodiment of an interfolding machine (10) according to the invention is shown, the interfolding machine (10) having an interfolding unit (2) comprising roller units (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) forming a first group and a cutting beam (50). The rollers of the third roller unit (3c) and the fourth roller unit (3d) are configured to move the sheet product and, in cooperation with a folding element (not visible), arrange the sheet product in an interfolded manner.
[0065] Fig.12 Another set of roller units (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) is shown, which is interchangeable with the first set of roller units in the interfolding machine (10). The other set of rollers is different from the first set of rollers in order to determine and handle sheet products of different lengths. Typically, the diameter of the rollers varies at least slightly. In particular, in the accompanying drawings, it is unlikely that a dimensional change between the first set and the second set will be observed due to the small diameter change. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the teachings of the present invention, Fig. 9 A beam (50) is schematically shown, which operates with two roller diameters which differ significantly from each other, a difference in size which is difficult to achieve in reality.
[0066] Typically, a first roller (33a) for guiding the strip carries a blade facing radially outwards, such that the blade has a circular trajectory relative to a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation (A). The beam (50) is then positioned so that a first cutting tool (51) can cooperate with the blade of the first roller (33a). The precise relative position of the first cutting tool (51) relative to the axis of rotation (A) results in at least a distance associated with the radius of the circular trajectory and typically an extension or curvature of the blade or the counter-blade, typically in a spiral shape.
[0067] Similar considerations may apply to the second cutting tool (52).
[0068] The moving device (4) comprises at least one main motor and a conventional drive transmission. Fig.13 The moving device (4) can be seen in the figure: each roller unit (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) includes a gear (in the case of the first roller unit (3a), it is (34a)) for receiving drive from the main motor, usually through a transmission device, which may include a belt and / or a cogwheel.
[0069] The interfolding machine (10) is preferably configured in such a way that the roller units (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) of the first group can be lifted together, and usually also the roller units (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) of the second group. It is usually preferred that the frame (1) has a U-shaped configuration at the seat of the roller unit, the seat opening upwards towards the opening part of the U-shape.
[0070] Usually, if Figure 1 As shown, the frame (1) comprises a housing (11) for each roller unit (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) of the first group, which housing removably accommodates the roller (33a), and also for the rollers (73a) of the second group.
[0071] Typically, although not necessarily, the interfolding machine (10) includes support rollers and / or drive rollers at a higher height than the interfolding unit (2); to enable lifting, the components may advantageously be arranged at a higher height, or at least a portion of the interfolding machine (10) may be made movable.
[0072] The frame (1) preferably comprises a first upper part (12) carrying support rollers and / or driving rollers, a second upper part (13) carrying support rollers and / or driving rollers, and a lower part having a seat. Both the first upper part (12) and the second upper part (13) can be moved relative to the lower part to release the space above the roller unit (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) which is necessary for lifting the roller unit.
[0073] More preferably, if Figure 1 As shown, the first upper part (12) and the second upper part (13) are both hinged to the lower part (11), and the interfolding machine (10) includes at least one actuator (161, 162) that moves the first upper part (12) and the second upper part (13) between a first operating position and a second maintenance position, in which the first upper part (12) and the second upper part (13) release the space above the roller unit (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d). In this way, the lateral volume of the interfolding machine (10) is increased in a limited manner, or not at all.
[0074] In a preferred embodiment, at least one actuator (161, 162) includes a first hydraulic cylinder or pneumatic cylinder (161) and a second hydraulic cylinder or pneumatic cylinder (162), wherein the first hydraulic cylinder or pneumatic cylinder (161) is connected to the first upper part (12) and the lower part so as to move the first upper part (12), and the second hydraulic cylinder or pneumatic cylinder (162) is connected to the second upper part (13) and the lower part (13).
[0075] In a common embodiment, each cutting tool (30a, 70a) of the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) comprises a blade or a counter blade to cooperate with a corresponding counter blade or blades, as shown in the example in the accompanying drawings. The blades or counter blades of the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) can be interchangeable with each other, that is, they can be identical replacement parts.
[0076] In the accompanying drawings, blades and opposing blades can be seen, which cooperate with each other and extend the entire cutting length in the direction of the rotation axis (A); however, each cutting tool (30a, 70a) of the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) can include multiple blades or opposing blades in the direction of the rotation axis (A).
[0077] Typically, the rollers, for example the first roller (33a) and the further roller (73a), comprise suction means for guiding the strip.
[0078] The interfolding unit (2) may comprise a folding roller and a cutting roller, or a cutting folding roller, respectively. Figure 1 and Figure 2 Obviously, the teachings herein are advantageously applicable to both versions.
[0079] It is also clear to those skilled in the art that the teachings herein are preferably applied to both sides of the interfolding unit (2), i.e. also to Figure 1 and Fig.13 Another beam is visible in the image.
[0080] The invention also relates to a system. One embodiment of the system comprises an interfolding machine (10) according to the present description and a further roller unit (7a) comprising a dedicated cutting tool (70a) and a further roller (73a) for guiding the strip, the further roller (73a) carrying the dedicated cutting tool (70a).
[0081] The first roller (33a) is configured to rotate about a first axis (A1) which coincides with the axis of rotation (A) in the figure and brings the dedicated cutting tool (30a) to a first distance from the first axis (A1), and wherein the other roller (73a) is configured to rotate about a second axis (A2) and brings the dedicated cutting tool (70a) to a second distance from the second axis (A2), the second distance being different from the first distance. Thus, the system is able to obtain the above-mentioned advantages. Obviously, in order to be comparable, these distances must refer to corresponding points of the first cutting tool (30a) and the second cutting tool (70a).
[0082] The present invention also relates to a method for changing the length of a sheet product of an interfolded package produced by an interfolding machine (10). An embodiment of the method comprises the following steps:
[0083] - providing a system according to the present description;
[0084] - removing the beam (50) from the first position;
[0085] - removing the first roller unit (3a) from the base (11);
[0086] - positioning another roller unit (7a) in the housing (11);
[0087] - Fixing the beam (50) to the frame (1) in a second position.
[0088] The method enables rapid replacement of cut-offs and has the further advantages already mentioned above, including the advantages associated with the above-mentioned preferred embodiment.
[0089] As mentioned above, Figures 3 to 6 This enables an understanding of the first step of one embodiment of the method.
[0090] In the step of providing a system, a beam (50) is preferably provided, which is rotatable relative to the frame (1) about the axis (X) so that the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) can be oriented relative to the axis (X) in a first position and a second position, respectively. The beam (50) is in a working position relative to the frame (1) (see Figure 3 ) and rest position (see Figure 4 ), the first cutting tool (51) is in a relative first position in the working position, and the first cutting tool (51) is located on one side of the first roller (33a) in the static position so as to be replaceable with another roller unit (70a). In addition, when the beam (50) is removed from the first position, the beam (50) moves to the static position, and the step of removing the first roller unit (3a) from the seat (11) occurs after the beam (50) is in the static position.
[0091] More preferably, during the step of fixing the beam (50) to the frame (1) in the second position, the beam (50) is rotated about the axis (X) until the second cutting tool (52) is oriented relative to the axis (X) and is in the relative second position.
[0092] The method enables precise movement of the beam (50) to quickly and definitively identify a first position and a second position.
[0093] In the step of providing the system, a frame (1) is preferably provided, the frame comprising a first upper part (12) carrying idler rollers and / or drive rollers, a second upper part (13) carrying idler rollers and / or drive rollers, and a lower part having a seat (11), the first upper part (12) and the second upper part (13) both being movable relative to the lower part, thereby freeing up space above the roller units (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) sufficient for their lifting. Furthermore, in the step of removing the first roller unit (3a) from the seat (11), the first upper part (12) and / or the second upper part (13) are both movable relative to the lower part.
[0094] It should be understood that the above has been described by way of non-limiting examples, and any structural variations are deemed to fall within the protection scope of the present technical solution, as described in the following claims.

A method for varying the length of a sheet product of an interfolded package produced by an interfolding machine (10), comprising the steps of: - providing a system according to claim 7; - removing the beam (50) from the first position; - removing the first roller unit (3a) from the base (11); - positioning the further roller unit (7a) in the seat (11); - fixing the beam (50) to the frame (1) in the second position.
9. A method according to the preceding claim, wherein: - in the step of providing the system, the beam (50) is provided, the beam (50) being rotatable relative to the frame (1) about the axis (X) so that the first cutting tool (51) and the second cutting tool (52) are respectively orientable relative to the axis (X) in the first relative position and the second relative position, and the beam (50) is translationally movable relative to the frame (1) towards or away from the axis of rotation (A) between a working position and a rest position, in which the first cutting tool (51) is in the first relative position and in which the first cutting tool (51) is located on one side of the first roller (33a) so as to be exchangeable with the other roller unit (70a); - during the step of removing the beam (50) from the first position, the beam (50) is moved to the rest position; - The step of removing the first roller unit (3a) from the seat (11) takes place after the beam (50) is in the rest position.
10. The method according to the preceding claim, wherein: - During the step of fixing the beam (50) to the frame (1) in the second position, the beam (50) is rotated about the axis (X) until the second cutting tool (52) is oriented relative to the axis (X) and is in the relative second position.
