Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The disclosure herein relates to fixed capacitors, such as capacitors having multiple capacitor values that are selectively connectable to match one or more capacitances of one or more capacitors being replaced. Background Art
[0002] Single-phase induction motors, commonly used with air conditioners and cooling equipment compressors, typically require some type of auxiliary start capacitor to start the motor. The start capacitor, sometimes referred to as a "hard start capacitor," is connected for a short period of time to start the motor, and the start capacitor is disconnected from the motor just before or at its operating speed. This period of time is typically about 50-100 milliseconds. The start capacitor may be wired in series with a contact to disconnect it. The contact may be part of a relay (e.g., a voltage relay, a control relay, an electronic relay, etc.).
[0003] If the start capacitor or the relay that controls it fails, then the start capacitor and control relay need to be replaced, and this is usually accomplished at the site where the motor is located. For air conditioners and other cooling equipment, this site may be a home, office, warehouse or factory, store, or any other building. This complicates the task of replacing the start capacitor and the relay to which it is connected, because various brands and sizes of air conditioning and cooling units are in use, and these units use start capacitors with a variety of capacitances. Therefore, unless the repairman has a replacement hard start kit that can be used with the appropriately sized start capacitor, the repair cannot be completed without returning to a store or parts dealer that has a stock of hard start capacitor replacement parts.
[0004] Having to return to a shop or parts dealer to obtain the necessary materials to complete the repair is inefficient and time consuming, and also delays the time at which the customer's cooling system can be restored to operation.
[0005] Therefore, it would be advantageous if a maintenance technician could carry one hard start replacement unit that could be used with many air conditioning units, cooling units, or other equipment that utilizes single phase motors that require a start capacitor, allowing the maintenance technician to tune the hard start replacement unit for the immediate need and complete the repair in a timely manner. Summary of the invention
[0006] When a capacitor unit (e.g., a start capacitor, a run capacitor, etc.) is installed in an air conditioning system, the capacitor can be installed to fix the capacitor in a single position, provide (user) access to the capacitor, etc. The presented technology, system, etc. allows the capacitor unit to be installed in or near an air conditioning (AC) system. For example, installing the capacitor unit can help keep the capacitor stable when, for example, the air conditioning system in operation vibrates, moves, etc. Installing the capacitor unit can help access the capacitor, replace the capacitor, allow quick inspection of the installed capacitor unit, etc. In some embodiments, the capacitor unit is installed outside the housing of the air conditioning system, for example, due to the available space within the housing volume. Typically, installing the capacitor unit also involves connecting and / or arranging several wires, which can become messy without wire management. For example, during installation, the wires can easily become tangled, making it difficult to function. When the wires are tangled, future installation and replacement may become difficult. Wire management (e.g., using the present method and system) can support and accommodate cables during installation, and make subsequent maintenance or replacement of the cable system easier. The capacitor mount disclosed herein can mount a capacitor, for example, to stabilize the capacitor, and can also hold wires connected to the capacitor to provide wire management.

[0097] When a capacitor unit (e.g., a start capacitor, a run capacitor, etc.) is installed within an air conditioning system, it may generally help to install the capacitor. For example, the capacitor may be installed within or near the AC system. Installing the capacitor unit may help to stabilize the capacitor, for example, when the air conditioning system in operation vibrates or moves. In some instances, installing the capacitor using the device of the present invention may help access the capacitor, replace the capacitor, allow for quick inspection of the capacitor after installation, etc. In some embodiments, the capacitor unit is installed outside the housing of the air conditioning system, for example, due to the available space within the volume of the housing. Typically, installing the capacitor unit also involves connecting several wires, which may become messy without wire management. For example, during installation, the wires may easily become tangled, making it difficult to function. When the wires are tangled, future installation and replacement may become difficult. Wire management can support and contain cables during installation, and make subsequent maintenance or replacement of the cable system easier. The capacitor mount disclosed in the present invention can install the capacitor, for example, to stabilize the capacitor, and can also hold the wires connected to the capacitor to provide wire management.
[0098] Figure 1A mount 100 for a capacitor (e.g., a run capacitor, a start capacitor, etc.) is shown. For example, the mount 100 can be used to stabilize the capacitor and provide wire management during the installation of the capacitor, as described above. The mount 100 is typically a rectangular prism or a cube, but in some embodiments, one or more other shapes, such as a pyramid, a cylinder, etc., can be used. Typically, the mount 100 has a front side for receiving the capacitor and at least one other surface for mounting (e.g., a surface opposite the capacitor holding surface, such as a rear surface). The mount 100 can have a variety of sizes, such as being sized to receive a capacitor. For example, the height of the mount 100 can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, the width can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, and the depth can be in the range of one inch to ten inches. The height, width, and depth can be different from each other; for example, the length of each dimension can be different. In some embodiments, the height, width, and depth are the same, so that the mount 100 is in the shape of a cube.
[0099] The mounting member 100 can be formed of various materials. For example, the mounting member 100 can be formed of a rigid material such as a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc. In some embodiments, the mounting member 100 can be formed of a composite material such as a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc. In some embodiments, the mounting member 100 can be formed of a combination of materials such as a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc.
[0100] The mount 100 can be formed by a variety of manufacturing methods. In some embodiments, the mount 100 can be formed via 3D printing (eg, stereolithography). In some embodiments, the mount 100 can be formed via prefabrication. The mount 100 includes two side portions 102, 104 extending from a rear side 106.
[0101] Each of the two side portions 102, 104 has a multi-radius cutout 108, 170, respectively. For example, the multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 can each be a cutout whose shape (e.g., an arcuate shape) has a portion of a circle (e.g., a 90 degree portion of a circle, a 120 degree portion of a circle, a 180 degree portion of a circle, etc.) reflected in the center of the respective side 102, 104. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 can be offset from the center of each respective side 102, 104. Each of the multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 has multiple radii to allow the mount 100 to securely hold a variety of capacitors. For example, the multi-radius cutouts can each have two radii that reflect the diameter of the start and run capacitors so that the start and run capacitors are received by the mount and fit securely and snugly within the portion of the multi-radius cutout. The multi-radius cutouts can each include a radius that matches or nearly matches the diameter of the start and run capacitors. For example, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutout 108 has two diameters of about 2.5 inches and about 2.16 inches. This can accommodate cylindrical housings of capacitors (e.g., start capacitors, run capacitors, etc.) such as the Turbo200, Turbo200 XL, EasyStart, TES5EXT, etc. manufactured by AmRad, with diameters ranging from about 1.75 inches to about 2.6 inches. The mount 100 can accommodate a number of capacitors produced by AmRad Manufacturing Company. Although each multi-radius cutout 108, 170 is described as having two radii, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 may each include more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). And, although in the illustrated example the multi-radius cutout 170 in the first side 102 matches the multi-radius cutout 108 in the second side 104, in other embodiments the multi-radius cutout 170 in the first side 102 does not match the multi-radius cutout 108 in the second side 104. For example, the dimensions of the multi-radius cutout 170 in the first side 102 may be slightly different than the multi-radius cutout 108 in the second side. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutout 170 in the first side or the multi-radius cutout 108 in the second side may include features for tilting the capacitor (e.g., tilting the capacitor outward at the top to allow better access to the top of the capacitor). In some embodiments, the mounting member includes a slope for tilting the capacitor. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutout 108 and / or the multi-radius cutout 170 may be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction where the surface 130 of the cutout of the mounting member intersects the outer surface of the cylindrical capacitor. For example, the rubber coating may prevent the capacitor from sliding out of the multi-radius cutout 108 and / or the multi-radius cutout 170.
[0102] The mount 100 may use a strap as a securing mechanism to secure the capacitor to the mount 100. For example, the mount 100 also includes a slot 110 for a strap (not shown) to be wrapped around the capacitor. The slot may include a channel having the following dimensions: a depth of about one quarter inch and a height of about half an inch. The slot 110 may extend through the interior of the mount 100. In the example shown, the slot has an open channel portion 132 and a closed channel portion 134. Some designs may have multiple slots to hold multiple straps. For example, some designs may include two, three, or more slots. This may be advantageous because the more securing mechanisms there are, the more secure the capacitor is within the mount 100. Although a strap may be inserted into one of the open channels, extend through the closed channel, and exit from another open channel, multiple straps may also be used. For example, the strap may include, for example, a hook and loop strap, a buckle strap, a tie strap, etc. When implemented, the strap (or straps) may secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutout 108.
[0103] The mount 100 may also have several openings for different types of securing mechanisms. For example, if desired, the mount 100 also includes openings 136, 138, 140, 142, 144 for additional straps or cables (not shown). The openings 136, 138, 140, 142, 144 may be connected by a closed passage extending through the interior of the mount 100. The openings 136, 138, 140, 142, 144 may have different sizes, shapes, etc. In the illustrated embodiment, the dimensions of the openings 136, 138, 140, 142, 144 are smaller than the corresponding dimensions of the slot. For example, the dimensions of the openings may be: about one-tenth of an inch in width and about one-quarter of an inch in height. The dimensions may be smaller than the dimensions of the slot to allow the use of multiple smaller straps (e.g., ties, cable ties, ropes, etc.). The smaller straps may be used to secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutouts 108, 170. In some embodiments, the capacitor includes several wires, for example, to conduct electricity between the AC unit and the capacitor. Smaller ties may also be used to secure wires to a mount, such as for wire management. In addition to or in lieu of ties used in slot 110, ties may be used in openings 136, 138, 140, 142, 144.
[0104] The mounting member 100 can be mounted to a surface in a variety of ways. For example, the mounting member 100 includes holes 114, 116 for attaching the mounting member to a surface, such as the exterior of an air conditioning system. The holes 114, 116 can allow a variety of fasteners (not shown) to attach the mounting member to the surface. In some embodiments, the fasteners may include, for example, wood screws, machine screws, nails, etc. In some embodiments, one or more of the holes 114, 116 may intersect with the slot 110 (e.g., with the closed portion 134 of the slot 110) so that the fastener attaches the mounting member through a strap held in the slot 110. For example, in the illustrated embodiment, the hole 116 intersects with the slot 110. This can help maintain the position of the strap within the slot 110. In some embodiments, the holes 114, 116 are positioned so that they do not intersect with the slot 110. In other embodiments, the mounting member 100 may include more or fewer holes (no holes, two holes, three holes, etc.). In some embodiments, the mount 100 can be attached to a surface using a strap, cable tie, cable, etc. inserted into the slot 110, openings 136, 138, 140, 142, 144, etc. For example, a strap can be inserted into the slot 110 and wrapped around a post, pole, etc. to attach the mount 100 to the post, pole, etc.
[0105] Figure 2 and 3 Shown separately Figure 1 A top view of the mounting member 100 and Figure 1 A bottom view of the mounting member 100 is shown. Figure 2 and 3The multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 are shown in more detail. As shown, the multi-radius cutouts 108 in the top side 104 of the mount 100 are the same as the multi-radius cutouts 170 in the bottom side 102. However, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 108 in the top side 104 may be different from the multi-radius cutouts 170 in the bottom side 102, as discussed above. The multi-radius cutouts 108 have a first radius 146 and a second radius 148, and the multi-radius cutouts 170 have a first radius 146 and a second radius 148. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts may have more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). The multi-radius cutouts may include larger or smaller radii within the cutouts. In the illustrated embodiment, the second radius 148 is smaller than the first radius 146; alternatively, the second radius 148 may be larger than the first radius 146. The second radius 148 is also centered in the multi-radius cutout 108, and the cutout has the first radius 146 on either end of the second radius 148. However, in some embodiments, the second radius 148 may not be centered in the multi-radius cutout 108. For example, the left half of the cutout 108 may have the first radius 146, and the second half of the cutout 108 may have the second radius 148. In some embodiments, the radius may vary throughout the cutout. For example, the radius may be variable throughout the cutout. For example, the multi-radius cutout may include any shape and any number of radii to provide a desired shape for a housing that houses a capacitor.
[0106] The diameters of the first radius 146 and the second radius 148 can be approximately 2.5 inches and approximately 2.16 inches, respectively. This can accommodate circular capacitors having a diameter of approximately 2 inches to approximately 2.6 inches. For example, the first radius 146 can receive a capacitor having a diameter of approximately 2.5 inches, while the second radius 148 can receive a capacitor having a diameter of approximately 2.16 inches. This can allow capacitors having a diameter of approximately 2 inches to approximately 2.6 inches to fit tightly into the multi-radius cutout. Having the same multi-radius cutout 108 in the top side 104 and the bottom side 102 allows capacitors to be positioned similarly in each cutout 108. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutout in the top side 104 can be different from the multi-radius cutout in the bottom side 102, as discussed above.
[0107] Figure 4 and 5 Shown separately Figure 1100. The rear side 106 may have a rubber coating (e.g., butadiene, butyl, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase friction between the mount 100 and the surface to which the mount 100 is mounted. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the rear side 106 may be the same as the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the rear side 106 may be different from the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the rear side 106 may not have a rubber coating.
[0108] In addition Figure 4 and 5 1 and 136 for straps and cables, for example. As shown, the slot 110 extends completely through the mount 100. For example, the slot 110 extends from the open portion to the closed portion, reaching the open portion on the other side. The openings 112, 136 also extend through the mount 100. For example, the openings 112, 136 are closed passages extending through the interior of the mount 100. The openings 112, 136 are connected so that straps, cable ties, cables, etc. can be fed into and out of the openings as needed. This can help, for example, accommodate different wiring and capacitors. In some embodiments, the user may need more or less cables in certain locations on the mount 100. Providing multiple connection openings allows the user to select which openings are used for cables. In the illustrated embodiment, the slot 110 is separated from the smaller opening, however, in some embodiments, the slot 110 can also be connected to the opening.
[0109] Figure 6A front view of the mount 100 is shown. The slot 110, openings 138, 140, 142, 144, and holes 114, 16 are positioned on the front surface of the mount 100. As shown, the hole 116 intersects the slot 110 so that a fastener positioned in the hole 116 extends through the hole 116 and attaches the mount 100 to the surface by a strap held in the slot 110. This can help maintain the position of the strap within the slot 110. In some embodiments, the holes 114, 116 are positioned so that they do not intersect the slot 110. For example, the slot 110 can be positioned differently, or the holes 114, 116 can be positioned differently. In some embodiments, the holes 114, 116 can be tilted to accommodate certain types of fasteners. For example, a fastener (e.g., a screw, a nail, etc.) can typically include a head at the end of the fastener. Tilt the hole to make extra room for the head of the fastener so that the fastener is flush with the front surface of the mount 100. In some embodiments, holes 114, 116 may have different sizes, for example to accommodate different types of fasteners (e.g., sheet metal screws, wood screws, nails, etc.). In some embodiments, holes 114, 116 may have different depths. For example, in some embodiments, hole 114 extends through the back of the mount to attach the mount to a surface (e.g., the wall of an air conditioner), while hole 116 does not extend through the back of the mount. In some embodiments, hole 116 does not extend through the back of the mount and only extends into slot 110, for example to hold a strap held in slot 110. In some embodiments, mount 100 may not include slot 110. For example, mount 100 may be configured to hold a capacitor only with a strap passing through openings 138, 140, 142, 144. In some embodiments, mount 100 may not include holes 114, 116. In some embodiments, mount 100 may not include openings 138, 140, 142, 144. For example, mount 100 can be configured to hold a capacitor with only a strap passing through slot 110. Openings 138, 140, 142, 144 can be connected so that a strap can enter through any opening 138, 140, 142, 144 and exit through any opening 138, 140, 142, 144. In some embodiments, openings 138, 140, 142, 144 can also be connected to slot 110. In other embodiments, the openings are not connected to slot 110.
[0110] Figure 7A rear view of the mount 100 is shown. The mount 100 includes two cylindrical magnetic elements 120, 122 that can be embedded in the mount 100. For example, the magnetic elements 120, 122 can be flush with the rear surface of the mount 100 so that the rear surface is flat. The magnetic elements 120 can assist in mounting the mount 100 (e.g., to an air handling system) so that a surface of the mount 100 magnetically engages a surface of the air handling system. The magnetic elements 120, 122 are configured to generate a magnetic attraction between the magnetic elements 120, 122 and a magnetic surface near the mount 100. For example, the magnetic elements 120, 122 can cause the rear surface of the mount 100 to be attracted to a metal surface of the air handling system, thereby improving the integrity between the mount 100 and the air handling system after installation. The magnetic elements 120, 122 can be designed so that the strength of the magnetic attraction between the magnetic elements 120, 122 and the air conditioning system allows the magnetic elements 120, 122 to remain firmly in place in response to vibrations and / or other movements that may occur during operational use of the air conditioning system. In some embodiments, the strength of the magnetic attraction between the magnetic elements 120, 122 and the air conditioning system allows a user (e.g., a technician installing or uninstalling the mount 100) to remove the mount from the surface of the air conditioning system without excessive effort.
[0111] In some embodiments, in addition to magnetic elements, the rear surface of the mount 100 may include other attachment mechanisms in place of magnetic elements, etc. For example, in some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 100 may be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mount 100 and the mounting surface. For example, when the mount 100 is magnetically attached, the rubber coating can prevent the mount from sliding relative to the surface. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 100 can be coated with an adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) to attach the mount 100 to the surface. In some embodiments, a fastener can be inserted into one or more of the holes 114, 116 to attach the mount 100 to the surface and prevent the mount 100 from sliding relative to the surface.
[0112] Although the magnetic elements 120, 122 are illustrated as being positioned flush with the rear surface of the mount 100, in some implementations, the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be positioned outside the mount 100, on the exterior of the rear surface of the mount 100. For example, the magnetic elements 120, 122 may have a disk shape that is positioned exterior of the rear surface of the mount 100.
[0113] In some examples, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may have a rectangular shape. For example, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be a rectangular strap extending along the rear surface of the mount 100. Specifically, the rectangular strap may have a specific thickness, a first dimension extending from the left side of the mount 100 to the right side of the mount 100, and a second dimension that is perpendicular to the first dimension and smaller than the first dimension. In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be square-shaped (e.g., such that the first dimension is equal to or substantially equal to the second dimension). In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be rod-shaped. In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be circular (e.g., disc-shaped) or hollow circular (e.g., ring-shaped). For example, in some embodiments, the size of each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be equal to or substantially equal to the size of a disc-shaped battery (e.g., a watch battery such as a CR2032 battery). In some embodiments, magnetic elements 120, 122 are each in the shape of a disk having a thickness of about 4 mm and a diameter of about 160 mm. In some embodiments, magnetic elements 120, 122 are each in the shape of a disk having a thickness of about 4 mm and a diameter of about 40 mm. In some embodiments, magnetic elements 120, 122 are each in the shape of a disk having a thickness of about 4.5-5 mm and a diameter of about 60 mm. In some embodiments, magnetic elements 120, 122 are each in the shape of a disk having a thickness of about 5 mm and a diameter of about 60 mm.
[0114] The specific shape and / or size of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be selected to achieve a desired magnetic attraction strength. For example, the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be designed to have a specific shape and / or a larger size and / or a larger thickness so that the magnetic attraction strength with the magnetic surface is relatively high. In some embodiments, the increased surface area of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may increase the strength of the magnetic attraction. In some embodiments, the specific shape and / or size of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be selected to achieve a desired size of the mount 100, or vice versa. For example, the size of the mount 100 may be reduced by reducing the size of the magnetic elements 120, 122. In some embodiments, the size of the mount 100 is affected by the size of the magnetic elements 120, 122. For example, the magnetic attraction generated by the magnetic elements 120, 122 should be sufficient to attach the mount and the mounted capacitor to a surface (e.g., the surface of the AC system). The size of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may determine the corresponding size of the mount 100.
[0115] In some embodiments, the magnetic elements 120, 122 each have a strength of about 30-40 millitesla (mT) or a strength of about 65-75 mT. In some embodiments, the strength of the magnetic attraction can be increased by stacking multiple magnetic elements 120, 122 (e.g., superimposing). In some embodiments, two stacked magnetic elements 120, 122 can have a strength of about 70-80 mT, 60-80 mT, or 130-150 mT, but other ranges are possible. In some embodiments, the magnetic elements 120, 122 can be D40x4 ferrite ceramic magnets manufactured by Hangzhou Honesun Magnet Co., Ltd. In some embodiments, the strength of the magnetic elements 120, 122 can be selected so that the magnetic elements 120, 122 do not interfere with the function of the capacitors retained within the mounting 100.
[0116] In some embodiments, one or more of a number of techniques may be used to magnetize the magnetic elements 120, 122. For example, in some embodiments, the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be magnetized so that the north and south magnetic poles of each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 are located at specific locations of the magnetic elements 120, 122. For example, the techniques used to magnetize the magnetic elements 120, 122 may cause the north and / or south magnetic poles to be located at various thicknesses of the magnetic elements 120, 122, various axial locations of the magnetic elements 120, 122, various diametric locations of the magnetic elements 120, 122, and / or various radial locations of the magnetic elements 120, 122. In some embodiments, the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be multi-pole magnets.
[0117] In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 is a permanent magnet made of a material that is magnetized and generates its own permanent magnetic field. For example, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be made of a ferromagnetic material that can be magnetized, such as alloys of iron, nickel, cobalt, and / or rare earth metals, among others. In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 is a ferrite and / or ceramic magnet. In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may include one or more of ferric oxide, iron oxide, barium, barium carbonate, strontium, and / or strontium carbonate. Each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may include one or more "hard" magnetic materials (e.g., materials that tend to remain magnetized). Alternatively or in addition, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may include one or more "soft" magnetic materials.
[0118] In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be a rare earth magnet. Rare earth magnets are typically relatively strong permanent magnets made from one or more alloys of rare earth elements. Examples of rare earth elements that can be used in rare earth magnets include elements of the lanthanide series, scandium, and yttrium, but other elements may also or alternatively be used. In some embodiments, the rare earth magnets may generate a magnetic field greater than 1.0 T (Tesla). In some embodiments, the rare earth magnets may include one or both of samarium cobalt and neodymium.
[0119] In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 can be made of one or more ceramic compounds (e.g., ferrites) that can be produced by combining iron oxide and one or more metal elements. In some embodiments, such ceramic compounds can be non-conductive. Using such ceramic compounds for each magnetic element 120, 122 can eliminate conductive elements that would otherwise affect the operation of the capacitors held within the mount 100.
[0120] In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may have a grade corresponding to a particular standard (e.g., a national and / or international standard). In some embodiments, the grade of each of the magnetic elements 120 corresponds to the Chinese ferrite magnet naming system. For example, in some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 is graded Y10T, Y25, Y30, Y33, Y35, Y30BH, or Y33BH, but other grades are possible. In some embodiments, the grade corresponds to an operating temperature of 250°C. In some embodiments, the grade of each of the magnetic elements 120 corresponds to Feroba, i.e., the U.S. (e.g., "C") or European (e.g., "HF") grading standards.
[0121] In some embodiments, each of the magnetic elements 120, 122 can be an electromagnet that generates a magnetic field by introducing an electric current. In some embodiments, the electromagnet can include a magnetic core and a wire (e.g., an insulated wire) wound into a coil around the magnetic core. The magnetic core can be made of a ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic material, such as iron or steel. The magnetic core can be made of a "soft" magnetic material (e.g., a magnetic material that allows magnetic domains in the material to align after introducing an electric current through the coil).
[0122] By using electromagnets as magnetic elements 120, 122, the strength of the magnetic attraction can be turned on and off and / or customized according to the current through the coil. For example, a current can be applied through the coil to cause the electromagnet to generate a magnetic field, and the current can be removed from the coil to cause the electromagnet to stop generating the magnetic field. In some embodiments, the strength of the magnetic field (and, for example, the strength of the magnetic attraction generated by the electromagnet) can be adjusted based on the magnitude of the current through the coil. For example, a relatively high magnitude of the current corresponds to a higher magnetic field strength and therefore a higher magnetic attraction strength (e.g., with a magnetic surface), and a relatively low magnitude of the current corresponds to a lower magnetic field strength and therefore a lower magnetic attraction strength.
[0123] In some embodiments, the specific material for the core of the electromagnet and / or the size of the core can be selected to achieve the desired magnetic attraction strength. The core can be made of materials such as one or both of iron and steel. In some embodiments, the size of the coil and / or the number of turns of the coil can also be selected to achieve the desired magnetic attraction strength.
[0124] In some embodiments, the current provided through the coil can be provided through a connection to a capacitor held within the mount 100. For example, a conductor (e.g., a wire) can be used to connect one or more of the terminals to a first end of the coil, and a conductor can be used to connect another of the terminals to a second end of the coil. In this way, the current that would otherwise pass through the electrical components of the capacitor can also be used to power the electromagnetic element, thereby causing the electromagnet to generate a magnetic field.
[0125] In some embodiments, the capacitor may include one or more different and / or additional electrical components that may be used by the electromagnet to generate a magnetic field. For example, the capacitor may include a separate capacitor configured to store charge to be used to subsequently apply current through the electromagnetic coil. In this way, the electromagnet may have a separate power source that may be used when needed to generate a magnetic field.
[0126] In some embodiments, the capacitor may include a switch that can be switched by a user (e.g., a technician or operator of the capacitor) to cause the electromagnetic to generate or stop generating a magnetic field. The switch can temporarily disconnect and restore the electrical connection in the coil. In some embodiments (e.g., embodiments in which the coil is connected to one or more of the terminals), the switch can temporarily disconnect and restore the conductor that connects the coil to one or more of the terminals so that the magnetic field generated by the electromagnet can be turned on and off. In this way, the user can switch the magnetic field when the capacitor needs to be installed (e.g., when installing), and switch the magnetic field when the capacitor does not need to be installed (e.g., when the capacitor is not in use and / or is stored) or when the magnetic attraction is not needed (e.g., when the capacitor is installed at a location that does not include a magnetic surface).
[0127] In some embodiments, one or more of the capacitive elements of the capacitor and / or the capacitor segments of the capacitor can be used to store charge provided to the coil to generate a magnetic field. In this way, the charge otherwise stored by the capacitor during typical use can also be used to power the electromagnet.
[0128] Although the mount 100 shown in the illustrated example includes two magnetic elements 120, 122, additional magnetic elements may also be provided. For example, multiple magnetic elements may be positioned on the rear surface of the mount 100. The size of the multiple magnetic elements may be relatively smaller than the size selected for the implementation using only one or two magnetic elements. The size of the multiple magnetic elements may be substantially similar to the size of a watch battery, such as a CR2032 battery. Multiple magnetic elements may be positioned at various locations on the rear surface of the mount 100. For example, multiple magnetic elements may be arranged in a ring around the periphery of the rear surface so that the multiple magnetic elements are spaced approximately equal distances from each other. In some implementations, multiple magnetic elements may be arranged in groups of two, three, etc. magnetic elements. Any number of magnetic elements may be provided to achieve the desired magnetic attraction strength.
[0129] In some embodiments, the magnetic elements 120, 122 may have the same or different diameters. In some embodiments, the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be positioned at a location that is not aligned with the center of the rear surface of the mount 100. For example, the center of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may not be aligned with the center of the rear surface of the mount 100, such that the magnetic elements 120, 122 are positioned close to one side of the mount 100. In some embodiments, the center of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may be aligned with the center of the rear surface of the mount 100. In some embodiments, the centers of the magnetic elements 120, 122 may not be aligned with each other. In other words, the center of one of the magnetic elements may not be aligned with the center of the other magnet.
[0130] In some embodiments, the magnetic elements 120, 122 can have a stacked configuration such that a first disk-shaped magnetic element is stacked on top of a second disk-shaped magnetic element. In some embodiments, the magnetic elements 120, 122 can have a strength of approximately 70-80 mT, 60-80 mT, or 130-150 mT, but other ranges are possible. Some examples of suitable magnetic elements are described in prior U.S. Patent No. 10,497,518, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
[0131] Figure 8-10 Different techniques for securing a capacitor received by a mount are shown. For example, a single strap, multiple straps, etc. may be located in different positions to secure a capacitor received by a mount. For example, in Figure 8In the embodiment shown in FIG. 8 , the mount 800 includes a strap 802 that can be inserted into a slot 804 and can hold the capacitor 850 to the mount. The slot 804 can include a passage extending through the mount 800. The slot 804 can be similar to, for example, Figure 1 The strap 802 may include, for example, a hook and loop strap, a buckle strap, a tie strap, etc. The strap may secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutout of the mount 800. The strap (e.g., a cable, etc.) may have one or more characteristics / parameters / attributes (e.g., length, width, material properties that provide strength) determined to secure the capacitor (e.g., a run capacitor, a start capacitor, etc.) to the mount. The mount may be attached to a surface, for example, via a magnetic element or via a fastener, as described above with reference to Figure 7 described.
[0132] exist Fig. 9 In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 , the mount 900 includes a cable tie (e.g., a lanyard, a cable tie, etc.) 902 that can be inserted into the opening 904 and can hold the capacitor 950 to the mount 900. The cable tie can be formed, for example, of nylon and has a flexible band section with teeth that engage with a pawl in the head to form a ratchet so that when the free end of the band section is pulled, the cable tie tightens and does not untie. Some cable ties include a tab that can be pressed to release the ratchet so that the cable tie can be loosened or removed and potentially reused. Other materials can also be used for the cable tie, such as metal (e.g., stainless steel), plastic, etc. In some embodiments, other fixing mechanisms can be inserted into the opening 902 (e.g., a rope, a cable, etc.). The cable (e.g., or rope, etc.) can have one or more characteristics / parameters / attributes (e.g., length, width, material properties that provide strength) that are determined to secure the capacitor (e.g., a run capacitor, a start capacitor, etc.) to the mount.
[0133] The opening 904 may be similar to, for example Figure 1 In some embodiments, a plurality of securing mechanisms (e.g., cable ties, straps, cords, etc.) may be inserted into opening 904 to secure capacitor 950 to the mount. In some embodiments, a strap (e.g., similar to Figure 8 The capacitor 950 may be secured to the mounting member 900 by means of a strap 802 and a cable tie 902.
[0134] In some implementations, the straps can hold the capacitor to the mount, and the cables can be used for wire management. Fig.10, the mount 1000 includes a cable tie 1002 and a tie 1004. The cable tie 1002 holds a wire 1052 attached to a capacitor 1050. In some embodiments, multiple cable ties 1004 can be used to hold cables. In some embodiments, a first cable tie 1004 can hold a capacitor 1050 and another cable tie 1004 can be used for wire management. A large number of cables and ties can be used to hold the capacitor to the mount and for wire management. The tie (e.g., cable, etc.) can have one or more characteristics / parameters / attributes (e.g., length, width, material properties that provide strength) determined to secure a capacitor (e.g., run capacitor, start capacitor, etc.) to the mount.
[0135] Fig.11 A mount 1100 is shown for holding a plurality of capacitors (e.g., two run capacitors, two start capacitors, one run capacitor and one start capacitor, etc.). For example, the mount 1100 can be used to stabilize the capacitors and provide wire management during the installation of the capacitors, as described above. The mount 1100 is typically a rectangular prism or a cube, but in some embodiments, one or more other shapes, such as a pyramid, a cylinder, etc., can be used. Generally speaking, the mount 1100 has a front side for receiving a plurality of capacitors and at least one other surface for mounting (e.g., a surface opposite the capacitor holding surface, such as a rear surface). The mount 1100 can have a variety of sizes, such as sizes designed to receive capacitors. For example, the height of the mount 1100 can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, the width can be in the range of one inch to seven inches, and the depth can be in the range of one inch to ten inches. The height, width, and depth can be different from each other; for example, the length of each dimension can be different. In some embodiments, the height, width, and depth are the same, so that the mount 1100 is in the shape of a cube.
[0136] The mounting member 1100 may be formed of a variety of materials. For example, the mounting member 1100 may be formed of a rigid material such as a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc. In some embodiments, the mounting member 1100 may be formed of a composite material including materials such as a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc. In some embodiments, the mounting member 1100 may be formed of a combination of materials including materials such as a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc.
[0137] The mount 1100 can be formed by a variety of manufacturing methods. In some embodiments, the mount 1100 can be formed via 3D printing (e.g., stereolithography). In some embodiments, the mount 1100 can be formed via prefabrication. The mount 1100 includes two side portions 1102, 1104 extending from a rear side 1106.
[0138] Each of the two sides 1102, 1104 has a plurality of multi-radius cuts 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174, respectively. The first side 1102 has two multi-radius cuts 1108, 1170, and the second side 1104 has two multi-radius cuts 1172, 1174. For example, each of the multi-radius cuts 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174 can be a cut having a certain shape (e.g., an arch) that is reflected in the corresponding side 1102, 1104 as a portion of a circle (e.g., a portion of a circle corresponding to 90 degrees, a portion of a circle corresponding to 120 degrees, a portion of a circle corresponding to 180 degrees, etc.). In some embodiments, the multi-radius cuts can be offset from the center of each corresponding side 1102, 1104. Each of the multi-radius cutouts 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174 has multiple radii to allow the mount 1100 to securely hold a variety of capacitors, as described above. For example, each multi-radius cutout may have two radii that reflect the diameter of the start and run capacitors so that the start and run capacitors are received by the mount and fit securely and tightly within the portion of the multi-radius cutout. The multi-radius cutout may include radii that match, nearly match, or the like, the diameter of the start and run capacitors. For example, in some embodiments, each multi-radius cutout 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174 has two diameters of about 2.5 inches and about 2.16 inches. This can accommodate cylindrical housings of capacitors (e.g., start capacitors, run capacitors, etc.) such as the Turbo 200, Turbo 200 XL, EasyStart, TES5EXT, etc. manufactured by AmRad, with diameters ranging from about 1.75 inches to about 2.6 inches. The mount 1100 can accommodate a number of capacitors produced by AmRad Manufacturing, Inc. Although each multi-radius cutout 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174 is described as having two radii, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174 can include more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). Also, although the multi-radius cutouts in the first side 1102 match the multi-radius cutouts in the second side 1104 in the illustrated example, in other embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the first side 1102 do not match the multi-radius cutouts in the second side 1104. For example, the dimensions of the multi-radius cutouts 1108, 1170 in the first side 1102 can be slightly different than the multi-radius cutouts 1172, 1174 in the second side 1104. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the first side or the second side can include features for tilting the capacitor (e.g., tilting the capacitor outward at the top to allow better access to the top of the capacitor). In some embodiments, the mount includes a ramp for tilting the capacitor. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction at the intersection of the surface of the cutout of the mount and the surface of the outside of the cylindrical capacitor. For example, the rubber coating can prevent the capacitor from sliding out of the multi-radius cutouts 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174.
[0139] The mount 1100 may use a strap as a securing mechanism to secure the capacitor to the mount 1100. For example, the mount 1100 also includes a slot 1110 for a strap (not shown) to be wrapped around the capacitor. The slot may include a channel having the following dimensions: a depth of about one quarter inch and a height of about half an inch. The slot 1110 may extend through the interior of the mount 1100. In the example shown, the slot has an open channel portion 1132 and a closed channel portion 1134. In some embodiments, the open channel portion 1132 and the closed channel portion 1134 may be arranged in different ways. Some designs may have multiple slots to hold multiple straps. For example, some designs may include two, three, or more slots. This may be advantageous because the more securing mechanisms there are, the more secure the capacitor is within the mount 1100. In some embodiments, one strap may be wrapped around each closed portion 1134. For example, the strap may be inserted into one of the open portions, extend through one of the closed channels, and come out of one of the other open channels. Similarly, another strap can be inserted into the third open channel, extend through one of the closed channels, and exit one of the other open channels. In some embodiments, a single strap can be inserted into one of the open portions, extend through one of the closed channels, extend through a second open channel, extend through another closed channel, and exit a third open channel. For example, the strap can include, for example, a hook and loop strap, a buckle and loop strap, a tie strap, etc. When implemented, the strap (or straps) can secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutout 1108.
[0140] The mounting member 1100 may also have several openings for different types of securing mechanisms. For example, the mounting member 1100 may also include openings 1136, 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144 for additional straps or cables (not shown) if desired. The openings 1136, 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144 may be connected by a closed passage extending through the interior of the mounting member 1100. The openings 1136, 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144 may have different sizes, shapes, etc. In the illustrated embodiment, the dimensions of the openings 1136, 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144 are smaller than the corresponding dimensions of the slot. For example, the dimensions of the openings may be: about one-tenth of an inch in width and about one-quarter of an inch in height. The dimensions may be smaller than the dimensions of the slot to allow the use of multiple smaller straps (e.g., ties, cable ties, ropes, etc.). Smaller ties can be used to secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutout 1108. Smaller ties can also be used to secure wires to a mount, such as for wire management. In addition to or in lieu of ties used in slot 1110, ties can be used in openings 1136, 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144.
[0141] In some embodiments, the mount 1100 further includes additional openings extending through each of the first side 1102 and the second side 1104. As described above, the additional openings can be used for wire management.
[0142] The mounting member 1100 can be mounted to a surface in a variety of ways. For example, the mounting member 100 includes holes 1114, 1116 for attaching the mounting member to a surface, such as the exterior of an air conditioning system. The holes 1114, 1116 can allow a variety of fasteners (not shown) to attach the mounting member to the surface. In some embodiments, the fasteners may include, for example, wood screws, machine screws, nails, etc. In some embodiments, one or more of the holes 1114, 1116 may intersect with the slot 1110 (e.g., with the closed portion 1134 of the slot 1110) so that the fastener attaches the mounting member by a strap held in the slot 1110. This can help maintain the position of the strap within the slot 1110. In some embodiments, the holes 1114, 1116 are positioned so that they do not intersect with the slot 1110. For example, in the illustrated embodiment, the hole 1114 does not intersect with the slot 1110. In other embodiments, the mount 1100 may include more or fewer holes (no holes, two holes, three holes, etc.). In some embodiments, the mount 1100 can be attached to a surface using a strap, cable tie, cable, etc. inserted through the slot 1110, openings 1136, 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144, etc. For example, a strap can be inserted through the slot 1110 and wrapped around a post, pole, etc. to attach the mount 1100 to the post, pole, etc.
[0143] Fig.12 and 13 Shown separately Figure 1 A top view of the mounting member 1100 and Figure 1 A bottom view of the mounting member 1100 is shown. Fig.12 and 13 The multi-radius cutouts 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174 are shown in more detail. As illustrated, the multi-radius cutouts 1108, 1170 in the bottom side 102 are the same as the multi-radius cutouts 1172, 1174 in the top side 1104 of the mount 1100. However, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the top side 1104 may be different from the multi-radius cutouts in the bottom side 1102, as discussed above. In some embodiments, one multi-radius cutout 1172 in the top side 1104 may be different from another multi-radius cutout 1174 in the top side 1104. Similarly, one multi-radius cutout 1108 in the bottom side 1102 may be different from another multi-radius cutout 1170 in the bottom side 1102. In some embodiments, the top and bottom sides may have more multi-radius cutouts to hold more capacitors. Each multi-radius cut 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174 has a first radius 1146 and a second radius 1148. In some embodiments, each multi-radius cut may have more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). Each multi-radius cut may include a larger or smaller radius within the cut. In the illustrated embodiment, the second radius 1148 is smaller than the first radius 1146; alternatively, the second radius 1148 may be larger than the first radius 1146. The second radius 1148 is also centered in each multi-radius cut 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174, and the cut has the first radius 1146 on either end of the second radius 1148. However, in some embodiments, the second radius 1148 may not be centered in each multi-radius cut 1108, 1170, 1172, 1174. For example, the left half of the cutout can have a first radius 1146, and the second half of the cutout can have a second radius 1148. In some embodiments, each cutout can have a change in radius throughout. For example, the radius can be variable throughout the entire cutout. For example, each multi-radius cutout can include any shape and any number of radii to provide a desired shape for the housing that accommodates the capacitor. As described above, multi-radius cutouts can also be different from each other.
[0144] The diameters of the first radius 1146 and the second radius 1148 can be approximately 2.5 inches and approximately 2.16 inches, respectively. This can accommodate circular capacitors having a diameter of approximately 2 inches to approximately 2.6 inches. For example, the first radius 1146 can receive a capacitor having a diameter of approximately 2.5 inches, while the second radius 1148 can receive a capacitor having a diameter of approximately 2.16 inches. This can allow capacitors having a diameter of approximately 2 inches to approximately 2.6 inches to fit tightly into the multi-radius cutouts. Having the same multi-radius cutouts 1108 in the top side 1104 and the bottom side 1102 allows the capacitors to be similarly positioned in each cutout 1108. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutout in the top side 1104 can be different from the multi-radius cutout in the bottom side 1102, as discussed above.
[0145] Fig.14 and 15 Shown separately Fig.11 1100. The back side 1106 can have a rubber coating (e.g., butadiene, butyl, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mount 1100 and the surface to which the mount 1100 is mounted. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the back side 1106 can be the same as the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the back side 1106 can be different from the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the back side 1106 can have no rubber coating.
[0146] In addition Fig.14 and 15 10 and openings 1112, 1136 for straps and cables are shown. As shown, the slot 1110 extends completely through the mounting member 1100. For example, the slot 1110 extends from the open portion to the closed portion, to the open portion in front, to the second closed portion, to the open portion on the other side. The openings 1112, 1136 also extend through the mounting member 1100. For example, the openings 1112, 1136 are closed passages extending through the interior of the mounting member 1100. The openings 1112, 1136 are connected so that straps, cable ties, cables, etc. can be fed into and out of the openings as needed. This can help accommodate different wiring and capacitors. In some embodiments, the user may need more or less cables in certain locations on the mounting member 1100. By providing multiple connected openings, the user is allowed to select which openings are used for cables. In the illustrated embodiment, the slot 1110 is separate from the smaller opening, however, in some embodiments, the slot 1110 may also be connected to the opening.
[0147] Fig.16A front view of the mount 1100 is shown. Slot 1110, openings 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144, and holes 1114, 1116 are located on the front surface of the mount 1100. The holes 1114, 1116 are positioned so that they do not intersect with the slot 110. In some embodiments, at least one of the plurality of holes intersects with the slot 1110 so that a fastener located in the hole extends through the hole and attaches the mount 1100 to a surface by a strap held in the slot 1110. This can help maintain the position of the strap within the slot 1110. For example, the slot 1110 can be located in different locations, or the holes 1114, 1116 can be located in different locations. In some embodiments, the holes 1114, 1116 can be tilted to accommodate certain types of fasteners. For example, a fastener (e.g., a screw, a nail, etc.) can typically include a head located at the end of the fastener. Beveling the holes can make additional room for the head of the fastener so that the fastener is flush with the front surface of the mount 100. In some embodiments, the holes 1114, 1116 can be of different sizes, for example to accommodate different types of fasteners (e.g., sheet metal screws, wood screws, nails, etc.). In some embodiments, the holes 1114, 1116 can have different depths. For example, in some embodiments, the hole 1114 extends through the back of the mount to attach the mount to a surface (e.g., the wall of an air conditioner), while the hole 1116 does not extend through the back of the mount. In some embodiments, the mount 1100 may not include the slot 1110. For example, the mount 1100 may be configured to hold the capacitor only with a strap passing through the openings 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144. In some embodiments, the mount 1100 may not include the holes 1114, 1116. In some embodiments, the mount 1100 may not include openings 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144. For example, the mount 1100 may be configured to hold the capacitor only with a strap passing through the slot 1110. The openings 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144 may be connected so that a strap may enter through any opening 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144 and exit through any opening 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144. In some embodiments, the openings 1138, 1140, 1142, 1144 may also be connected to the slot 1110. In other embodiments, the openings are not connected to the slot 1110.
[0148] Fig.17A rear view of the mount 1100 is shown. The mount 1100 includes three cylindrical magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 that can be embedded into the mount 1100. For example, the magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 can be flush with the rear surface of the mount 1100 so that the rear surface 1100 is flat. The magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 can assist in the installation of the mount 1100 (e.g., to an air handling system) so that the surface of the mount 1100 magnetically engages the surface of the air handling system. The magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 are configured to generate a magnetic attraction between the magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 and a magnetic surface near the mount 1100. For example, the magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 can allow the rear surface of the mount 1100 to be adsorbed to the metal surface of the air handling system, thereby improving the installation integration between the mount 1100 and the air handling system after installation. The magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 can be designed so that the strength of the magnetic attraction between the magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 and the air handling system can allow the magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 to remain firmly in place in response to vibrations and / or other movements that may occur during operational use of the air handling system. In some embodiments, the strength of the magnetic attraction between the magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 and the air handling system allows a user (e.g., a technician installing or uninstalling the mount 1100) to remove the mount from the surface of the air handling system without excessive effort. The magnetic elements 1120, 1122, 1124 can be similar to the magnetic elements described above. Figure 7 Magnetic elements 120, 122.
[0149] In some embodiments, in addition to magnetic elements, etc., the rear surface of the mount 1100 may include other attachment mechanisms that can replace the magnetic elements. For example, in some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 1100 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mount 1100 and the mounting surface. For example, when the mount 1100 is magnetically attached, the rubber coating can prevent the mount 1100 from sliding relative to the surface. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 1100 can be coated with an adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) to attach the mount 1100 to the surface. In some embodiments, a fastener can be inserted through one or more of the holes 1114, 1116 to attach the mount 1100 to the surface and prevent the mount 1100 from sliding relative to the surface.
[0150] Fig.18An exemplary mounting member 1800 is shown that can hold a plurality of capacitors 1820, 1840. The mounting member 1800 can be similar to the Figure 11-17 Mount 1100 is depicted. When an air conditioning unit utilizes multiple capacitors, it may be beneficial to hold multiple capacitors. For example, many air conditioning units utilize a run capacitor and a start capacitor. Fig.18 The mounting member 1800 can secure the run capacitor and the start capacitor. For example, a single strap, multiple straps, etc. can be located in different positions to secure multiple capacitors received by the mounting member 1800. For example, in Fig.18 , the mount 1800 includes a strap 1802 that can be inserted into a slot 1804 and can hold a capacitor 1820 to the mount. The slot 1804 may include a channel extending through the mount 1800. The mount 1800 also includes a second strap 1806 that can be inserted into the slot 1804 and can hold a second capacitor 1840 to the mount 1800. For example, the slot 1804 may include multiple open portions to allow multiple straps 1802, 1806 to be inserted into the slot 1804. The straps 1802, 1806 may include, for example, hook and loop straps, buckle straps, tie straps, etc. The straps can secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutouts of the mount 1800. For example, the mount 1800 may include multiple multi-radius cutouts, and each multi-radius cutout may be similar to Fig.11 The strap (e.g., cable, etc.) may have one or more characteristics / parameters / attributes (e.g., length, width, material properties that provide strength) that are determined to secure a capacitor (e.g., run capacitor, start capacitor, etc.) to the mount. In some embodiments, straps 1802, 1806 may be different (e.g., different characteristics / parameters / attributes). Mount 1800 may be attached to a surface via magnetic elements or via fasteners, as described above with reference to Fig.17 described.
[0151] Fig.19Another mount 1900 for a capacitor (e.g., a run capacitor, a start capacitor, etc.) is shown. For example, the mount 1900 can be used to stabilize the capacitor and provide wire management during the installation of the capacitor, as described above. The mount 1900 is typically a rectangular prism, but in some embodiments, one or more other shapes, such as a pyramid, a cylinder, etc., can be used. The mount 1900 can have a variety of sizes, such as a size that can accommodate a capacitor. For example, the height of the mount 1900 can be in the range of five inches to ten inches, the width can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, and the depth can be in the range of one inch to ten inches. The height, width, and depth can be different from each other; for example, the length of each dimension can be different. In some embodiments, the height, width, and depth are approximately the same, so that the mount 1900 is in the shape of a cube.
[0152] The mount 1900 can be formed of a variety of materials. For example, the mount 1900 can be formed of a rigid material (e.g., a polymer, ceramic, metal, etc.). In some embodiments, the mount 1900 can be formed of a composite material of materials including polymers, ceramics, metals, etc. In some embodiments, the mount 1900 can be formed of a combination of materials including polymers, ceramics, metals, etc.
[0153] The mounting member 1900 can be formed via a variety of manufacturing methods. In some embodiments, the mounting member 1900 can be formed via 3D printing (e.g., stereo-lithography). In some embodiments, the mounting member 1900 can be formed via prefabrication. The mounting member 1900 includes a rear side 1902 and protrusions 1904, 1906, 1908, 1910 extending from the rear side 1902.
[0154] Each of the projections 1904, 1906, 1908, 1910 generally extends from a corner of the rear side 1902. For example, each of the projections 1904, 1906, 1908, 1910 forms a right angle and abuts two adjacent ends of the rear side 1902. In some embodiments, projections 1904, 1906, 1908, 1910 can be formed in different shapes and located in different positions. The projections are generally positioned to surround the capacitor and firmly hold a variety of capacitors. For example, the position of the projections can reflect the diameter of the start-up and run capacitors so that the start-up and run capacitors are received by the mounting member and fit firmly and tightly in the projections. The distance between the projection pairs can match, almost match, etc. with the diameter of the start-up and run capacitors. For example, in some embodiments, projections 1904 and 1906 are separated by a distance of about 2.16 inches, and projections 1908 and 1910 are separated by a distance of about 2.16 inches. In some embodiments, protrusions 1904 and 1910 are separated by a distance of about 2.6 inches, and protrusions 1906 and 1908 are separated by a distance of about 2.6 inches. This can accommodate cylindrical housings of capacitors (e.g., start capacitors, run capacitors, etc.) such as the Turbo 200, Turbo 200 XL, EasyStart, TES5EXT, etc. manufactured by AmRad with diameters ranging from about 1.75 inches to about 2.6 inches, so that the capacitors fit tightly between the protrusions. Mounting 1900 can accommodate a number of capacitors produced by AmRad Manufacturing, so that the capacitors fit tightly between the four protrusions. Although mounting 1900 is described as having four protrusions, in some embodiments, mounting 1900 may include more or fewer protrusions. In addition, although the protrusions are located in symmetrical positions in the illustrated example, in other embodiments, the protrusions may be located in asymmetrical positions. For example, the protrusions on one side of mounting 1900 may have slightly different sizes than the protrusions on the other side. In some embodiments, the protrusions may include features for tilting the capacitor (e.g., tilting the capacitor outward at the top to allow better access to the top of the capacitor). In some embodiments, the mount includes a ramp for tilting the capacitor. In some embodiments, the protrusions may be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase friction where the surface of the mount intersects the surface of the outside of the cylindrical capacitor.
[0155] The mount 1900 may use straps, cables, cable ties, etc. as a securing mechanism to secure the capacitor to the mount 1900. The mount 1900 may have several openings for different types of securing mechanisms. For example, the mount 1900 includes openings 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1920, 1922 for straps or cables (not shown), as desired. The openings 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1920, 1922 may be connected by a closed passage extending through the interior of the mount 1900. The openings 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1920, 1922 may have different sizes, shapes, etc. For example, the dimensions of the openings may be: about one-tenth of an inch in width and about one-quarter of an inch in height. The dimensions may allow for the use of multiple straps (e.g., ties, cable ties, ropes, etc.). A tie band can be used to secure the capacitor within protrusions 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1920, 1922. In some embodiments, the capacitor includes a plurality of wires, for example, to conduct electricity between the AC unit and the capacitor. The tie band can also be used to secure the wires to the mounting member, for example, for wire management. Another opening 1924 can extend through the mounting member 1900 without connecting to the openings 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1920, 1922. For example, the opening 1924 has a separate passage extending through the mounting member 1900 (e.g., and has a matching opening on the opposite side of the mounting member, which is hidden in the figure).
[0156] In some embodiments, openings 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1920, 1922 are not completely connected. In some embodiments, opening 1920 is connected to opening 1916, but not to any of the other openings. Similarly, in some embodiments, opening 1922 is connected to opening 1918, but not to any of the other openings. Other openings (not shown) can be connected to openings 1912 and 1914 individually.
[0157] Mounting member 1900 can be mounted to a surface in a variety of ways. For example, mounting member 1900 includes holes for attaching the mounting member to a surface (e.g., the exterior of an air conditioning system). Holes 1926 are located at Fig.191926, 1928 can allow a variety of fasteners (not shown) to attach the mount to a surface. In some embodiments, the fasteners may include, for example, wood screws, machine screws, nails, etc. In other embodiments, the mount 1900 may include more or fewer holes (no holes, one hole, three holes, etc.). In some embodiments, the mount 1900 can be attached to a surface using a strap, cable tie, cable, etc. inserted through the openings 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1920, 1922, 1924, etc. For example, a strap may be inserted through the opening and wrapped around a post, pole, etc. to attach the mount 1900 to the post, pole, etc.
[0158] Fig. 20 and 21 Shown separately Fig.19 1900. The back side 1902 may have a rubber coating (e.g., butadiene, butyl, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase friction between the mount 1900 and the surface to which the mount 1900 is mounted. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the back side 1902 may be the same as the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the back side 1902 may be different from the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the back side 1902 may not have a rubber coating.
[0159] Fig. 22 and 23 Shown separately Fig.19 A left side view of the mounting member 1900 and Fig.19 Right side view of mounting member 1900. Fig.23 An opening in the mounting member 1900 is shown, the opening being Fig.19 For example, mounting member 1200 also includes openings 1924, 1930 for a strap to be wrapped around the capacitor. The dimensions of the openings may be: approximately one quarter inch in width and approximately half an inch in height. Openings 1924, 1930 may extend through the interior of mounting member 1900. Some designs may have multiple openings to hold multiple straps. For example, some designs may include two, three, or more openings. This may be advantageous because more securing mechanisms make the capacitor more secure within mounting member 1900. Although a strap can be inserted into one opening (e.g., opening 1924), extend through mounting member 1900, and exit from another opening (e.g., opening 1930), multiple straps may also be used. Additional openings 1932, 1934 are shown as being located on the right side of mounting member 1900. Openings 1932, 1934 may be connected to, for example Fig.19The openings 1912, 1914 shown. In some embodiments, all openings are connected to each other. In other embodiments, only adjacent openings are connected to each other. The straps used in the openings may include, for example, hook and loop straps, straps with buckles, tie straps, etc. When implemented, the strap (or straps) can secure the capacitor within the protrusions 1904, 1906, 1908, 1910. In some embodiments, the strap (or straps) can secure the mount to a pillar, pole, etc.
[0160] Fig.24 A front view of the mounting member 1900 is shown. Protrusions 1904, 1906, 1908, 1910, openings 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, and holes 1926, 1928 are positioned on the front face of the mounting member 1900. In some embodiments, the holes 1926, 1928 are located at different positions. In some embodiments, the holes 1926, 1928 can be tilted to accommodate certain types of fasteners. For example, a fastener (e.g., a screw, a nail, etc.) can typically include a head at the end of the fastener. Tilt the hole to create additional space for the head of the fastener so that the fastener is flush with the front surface of the mounting member 1900. In some embodiments, the holes 1926, 1928 can have different sizes, for example to accommodate different types of fasteners (e.g., sheet metal screws, wood screws, nails, etc.). In some embodiments, the holes 1926, 1928 can have different depths. In some embodiments, the mount 1900 may not include holes 1926, 1928. In some embodiments, the mount 1900 may not include openings 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918. For example, the mount 1900 may be configured to hold the capacitor with only straps passed through the side openings (e.g., 1924, 1930, etc.).
[0161] Fig.25A rear view of the mounting member 1900 is shown. The rear view shows holes extending through the mounting member 1900 to accommodate fasteners. In some embodiments, the holes can be located in different locations, as described above, or can not extend completely through the mounting member 1900, as described above. In some embodiments, in addition to holes, etc., the rear portion of the mounting member 1900 can include other attachment mechanisms that can replace the holes. For example, in some embodiments, the rear surface of the mounting member 1900 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mounting member 1900 and the mounting surface. For example, the rubber coating can prevent the mounting member 1900 from sliding relative to the surface when the mounting member is attached to the surface. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mounting member 1900 can be coated with an adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) to attach the mounting member 1900 to the surface. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 1900 can include magnetic elements, such as magnetic elements 120 , 122 similar to the mount 100 , to magnetically attach the mount 1900 to a surface.
[0162] Fig.26 Another mount 2500 is shown for a capacitor (e.g., a run capacitor, a start capacitor, etc.). For example, mount 2500 can be used to stabilize the capacitor and provide wire management during installation of the capacitor, as described above. Mount 2500 is modular and can be connected to other mounts (e.g., the same as mount 2500) to install additional capacitors. For example, Fig.32 A plurality of modular mounting members (eg, similar to mounting member 2500) are shown connected together. Still referring to Fig.26 , the mounting piece 2500 is typically a rectangular prism or a cube, but in some embodiments, one or more other shapes such as a pyramid, a cylinder, etc. may be used. Typically, the mounting piece 2500 has a front side for accommodating a capacitor and at least one other surface for mounting (e.g., a surface opposite to the capacitor holding surface, such as a rear surface). The mounting piece 2500 can have a variety of sizes, such as a size that can accommodate a capacitor. For example, the height of the mounting piece 2500 can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, the width can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, and the depth can be in the range of one inch to ten inches. The height, width, and depth can be different from each other; for example, the length of each dimension can be different. In some embodiments, the height, width, and depth are the same so that the mounting piece 2500 is in the shape of a cube.
[0163] The mount 2500 can be formed from a variety of materials. For example, the mount 2500 can be formed from a rigid material (e.g., a polymer, ceramic, metal, etc.). In some embodiments, the mount 2500 can be formed from a composite material of materials including polymers, ceramics, metals, etc. In some embodiments, the mount 2500 can be formed from a combination of materials including polymers, ceramics, metals, etc.
[0164] The mounting member 2500 can be formed via a variety of manufacturing methods. In some embodiments, the mounting member 2500 can be formed via 3D printing (e.g., stereolithography). In some embodiments, the mounting member 2500 can be formed via prefabrication. The mounting member 2500 includes two side portions 2502, 2504 extending from a rear side 2506.
[0165] Each of the two side portions 2502, 2504 has a multi-radius cutout 2508, 2570. Each multi-radius cutout 2508, 2570 may be similar to Figure 1The multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 of the mounting member 2500 can be configured to have a plurality of cutouts 2508, 2570. For example, each multi-radius cutout 2508, 2570 can be a cutout having a certain shape (e.g., an arch) that reflects a portion of a circle at the center of the corresponding side 2502, 2504 (e.g., a portion of a circle corresponding to 90 degrees, a portion of a circle corresponding to 120 degrees, a portion of a circle corresponding to 180 degrees, etc.). In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts can be offset from the center of each corresponding side 2502, 2504. Each multi-radius cutout 2508, 2570 has multiple radii to allow the mounting member 2500 to securely hold a variety of capacitors. For example, each multi-radius cutout can have two radii that reflect the diameter of the start and run capacitors, so that the start and run capacitors are received by the mounting member and fit securely and tightly within the portion of the multi-radius cutout. The multi-radius cutouts can include radii that match, nearly match, (etc.) the diameter of the start and run capacitors. For example, in some embodiments, each multi-radius cutout 2508, 2570 has two diameters of about 2.5 inches and about 2.16 inches. Although each multi-radius cutout 2508, 2570 is described as having two radii, in some embodiments, each multi-radius cutout may include more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). Also, while in the illustrated example the multi-radius cutout 2508 in the first side 2502 matches the multi-radius cutout 2570 in the second side 2504, in other embodiments the multi-radius cutout 2508 in the first side 2502 does not match the multi-radius cutout 2570 in the second side 2504. For example, the multi-radius cutouts in the first side 2502 can have slightly different dimensions than the multi-radius cutouts in the second side. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the first side or in the second side can include features for tilting the capacitor (e.g., tilting the capacitor outward at the top to allow better access to the top of the capacitor). In some embodiments, the mount includes an inclined surface for tilting the capacitor. In some embodiments, each multi-radius cutout 2508, 2570 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction at the intersection of the surface 2530 of the cutout of the mount and the surface of the outside of the cylindrical capacitor. For example, the rubber coating can prevent the capacitor from sliding out of the multi-radius cutouts 2508, 2570.
[0166] The mount 2500 may use a strap as a securing mechanism to secure the capacitor to the mount 2500. For example, the mount 2500 also includes a slot 2510 for a strap (not shown) to wrap around the capacitor. The slot may include a channel with the following dimensions: a depth of about one quarter inch and a height of about half an inch. The slot 2510 may extend through the interior of the mount 2500. In the example shown, the slot has an open channel portion 2532 and a closed channel portion 2534. Some designs may have multiple slots to hold multiple straps. For example, some designs may include two, three, or more slots. This may be advantageous because more securing mechanisms make the capacitor more secure within the mount 2500. Although a strap may be inserted into one of the open channels, extend through the closed channel, and come out of another open channel, multiple straps may also be used. For example, the strap may include, for example, a hook and loop strap, a strap with a buckle, a tie strap, etc. When implemented, the strap (or straps) may secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutout 2508.
[0167] The mounting piece 2500 can be mounted to a surface in a variety of ways. For example, the mounting piece 2500 includes a hole 2514 for attaching the mounting piece to a surface (e.g., the outside of an air conditioning system). The hole 2514 can allow a variety of fasteners (not shown) to attach the mounting piece to the surface. In some embodiments, the fasteners may include, for example, wood screws, machine screws, nails, etc. In some embodiments, the hole 2514 may intersect with the slot 2510 (e.g., with the closed portion 2534 of the slot 2510) so that the fastener attaches the mounting piece via a strap held in the slot 2510. In some embodiments, the mounting piece 2500 may include more or fewer holes (no holes, two holes, three holes, etc.). In some embodiments, the mounting piece 2500 can be attached to a surface using a strap, a cable tie, a cable, etc. inserted through the slot 2510. For example, a strap may be inserted through the slot 2510 and wrapped around a pillar, a rod, etc. to attach the mounting piece 2500 to a pillar, a rod, etc. The holes 2514 are shown as being angled, but may not be angled in some embodiments.
[0168] The mount 2500 also includes modular connectors 2550, 2552 located on either side of the mount 2500. The modular connectors 2550, 2552 can allow the mount 2500 to be connected to a similar mount (e.g., a mount with a similar connector). The modular connector 2550 is a protrusion, and the modular connector 2552 is a recess configured to receive the modular connector 2550. Multiple mounts 2500 can be connected to each other by inserting the modular connector 2550 into the modular connector 2552. The modular connectors 2550, 2552 can have a variety of shapes that allow multiple mounts 2500 to be connected together (e.g., via an interference fit, a snap fit, etc.). As discussed above, a single mount 2500 can also be used alone to mount a capacitor.
[0169] Fig. 27 A rear view of the mount 2500 is shown. The mount 2500 includes two cylindrical magnetic elements 2520, 2522 that can be embedded in the mount 2500. For example, the magnetic elements 2520, 2522 can be flush with the rear surface of the mount 2500 so that the rear surface 2500 is flat. The magnetic elements 2520, 2522 can assist in the installation of the mount 2500 (e.g., to an air handling system) so that the surface of the mount 2500 magnetically engages the surface of the air handling system. For example, the magnetic elements 2520, 2522 can be similar to the magnetic elements 120, 122 of the mount 100 described above.
[0170] In some embodiments, in addition to magnetic elements, etc., the rear portion of the mount 2500 may include other attachment mechanisms that may replace the magnetic elements. For example, in some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 2500 may be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mount 2500 and the mounting surface. For example, when the mount is magnetically attached, the rubber coating can prevent the mount 100 from sliding relative to the surface. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 2500 can be coated with an adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) to attach the mount 2500 to the surface. In some embodiments, a fastener can be inserted through the hole 2514 to attach the mount 2500 to the surface and prevent the mount 2500 from sliding relative to the surface.
[0171] Fig.28 and 29 Shown separately Fig.26 A top view of the mounting member 2500 and Fig.26 A bottom view of mounting member 2500 is shown. Fig.28 and 29The multi-radius cutout 2508 is shown in more detail. As shown, the multi-radius cutout 2508 in both the top side 2504 and the bottom side 2502 of the mount 2500 is the same. However, in some embodiments, as discussed above, the multi-radius cutout 2570 in the top side 2504 can be different from the multi-radius cutout 2508 in the bottom side 2504. Each multi-radius cutout 2508, 2570 has a first radius 2546 and a second radius 2548. In some embodiments, each multi-radius cutout can have more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). Each multi-radius cutout can include larger or smaller radii within the cutout. In the embodiment shown, the second radius 2548 is smaller than the first radius 2546; alternatively, the second radius 2548 can be larger than the first radius 2546. The second radius 2548 is also centered in the multi-radius cutouts 2508, 2570, and each cutout has a first radius 2546 on either end of the second radius 2548. However, in some embodiments, the second radius 2548 may not be centered in the multi-radius cutout 2508. For example, the left half of the cutout 2508 may have the first radius 2546, and the second half of the cutout 2508 may have the second radius 2548. In some embodiments, the cutout may have a change in radius throughout. For example, the radius may be variable throughout the cutout. For example, the multi-radius cutout may include any shape and any number of radii to provide a desired shape for a housing that accommodates a capacitor.
[0172] The diameters of the first radius 2546 and the second radius 2548 can be approximately 2.5 inches and approximately 2.16 inches, respectively. This can accommodate circular capacitors having a diameter of approximately 2 inches to approximately 2.6 inches. For example, the first radius 2546 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of approximately 2.5 inches, and the second radius 2548 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of approximately 2.16 inches. This can allow capacitors having a diameter of approximately 2 inches to approximately 2.6 inches to fit tightly into the multi-radius cutouts. Having the multi-radius cutouts 2508, 2570 in the top side 2504 and the bottom side 2502 allows capacitors to be equally placed in each cutout 2508. In some embodiments, as discussed above, the multi-radius cutout in the top side 2504 can be different from the multi-radius cutout in the bottom side 2502.
[0173] The mount 2500 may also have several openings for different types of securing mechanisms. For example, the mount 2500 may also include openings 2536, 2538, 2540, 2542 for additional straps or cables (not shown), if desired. The openings 2536, 2538, 2540, 2542 may be connected by a closed passage extending through the sides 2502, 2504 of the mount 2500. In some embodiments, the openings 2536, 2538, 2540, 2542 may be connected by a closed passage extending through the back side 2506 of the mount 2500. The openings 2536, 2538, 2540, 2542 may have different sizes, shapes, etc. In the illustrated embodiment, the dimensions of the openings 2536, 2538, 2540, 2542 are smaller than the corresponding dimensions of the slot 2510. For example, the dimensions of the openings may be: about one-tenth of an inch in width and about one-quarter of an inch in height. The dimensions may be smaller than the dimensions of the slot to allow for the use of multiple smaller straps (e.g., ties, cable ties, ropes, etc.). Smaller straps may be used to secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutout 2508. In some embodiments, the capacitor includes a plurality of wires, e.g., to conduct electricity between the AC unit and the capacitor. Smaller straps may also be used to secure the wires to a mount, e.g., for wire management. In addition to or in lieu of the straps used in slot 2510, straps may be used in openings 2536, 2538, 2540, 2542.
[0174] Fig.30 and 31 Shown separately Fig.26 2500. The back side 2506 can have a rubber coating (e.g., butadiene, butyl, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mount 2500 and the surface to which the mount 2500 is mounted. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the back side 2506 can be the same as the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the back side 2506 can be different from the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the back side 2506 can have no rubber coating.
[0175] Fig.30 and 31Also shown is a slot 2510 for straps and cables. As shown, the slot 2510 extends completely through the mount 2500. For example, the slot 2510 extends from the open portion to the closed portion to the open portion on the other side. Modular connectors 2550, 2552 are located on either side of the mount 2500. The modular connectors 2550, 2552 can allow the mount 2500 to be connected to a similar mount (e.g., a mount with a similar connector). The modular connector 2550 is a protrusion and the modular connector 2552 is a recess configured to receive the modular connector 2550. By inserting the modular connector 2550 into the modular connector 2552, multiple mounts 2500 can be connected to each other.
[0176] Fig.32 Another mount 3000 for a capacitor (e.g., a run capacitor, a start capacitor, etc.) is shown. For example, the mount 3000 can be used to stabilize the capacitor and provide wire management during the installation of the capacitor, as described above. The mount 3000 is modular and consists of multiple mounts (e.g., similar to Fig.26 The mounting member 2500 is formed to mount an additional capacitor. For example, Fig.32 Two modular mounts 3100, 3200 are shown connected to each other. Each of the mounts 3100, 3200 is typically a rectangular prism or a cube, but in some embodiments, one or more other shapes such as a pyramid, a cylinder, etc. may be used. Typically, the mounts 3100, 3200 have a front side for receiving a capacitor and at least one other surface for mounting (e.g., a surface opposite to the capacitor holding surface, such as a rear surface). The mounts 3100, 3200 can have a variety of sizes, such as a size that can accommodate a capacitor. For example, the height of each of the mounts 3100, 3200 can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, the width can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, and the depth can be in the range of one inch to ten inches. The height, width, and depth can be different from each other; for example, the length of each dimension can be different. In some embodiments, the height, width, and depth are the same so that the mounts 3100, 3200 are in the shape of a cube. In some embodiments, the mount 3100 can have a different size than the mount 3200. In other embodiments, the mounts 3100, 3200 have the same dimensions.
[0177] The mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed of a variety of materials. For example, the mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed of a rigid material (e.g., a polymer, ceramic, metal, etc.). In some embodiments, the mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed of a composite material, such as a material including a polymer, ceramic, metal, etc. In some embodiments, the mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed of a combination of materials, such as a polymer, ceramic, metal, etc. In some embodiments, the mount 3100 can be formed of a different material than the mount 3200. In other embodiments, the mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed of the same material.
[0178] The mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed via a variety of manufacturing methods. In some embodiments, the mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed via 3D printing (e.g., stereolithography). In some embodiments, the mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed via prefabrication. In some embodiments, the mount 3100 can be formed via a different manufacturing method than the mount 3200. In other embodiments, the mounts 3100, 3200 can be formed via the same manufacturing method.
[0179] The mount 3100 includes two side portions 3102, 3104 extending from a rear side 3106. The mount 3200 includes two side portions 3202, 3204 extending from a rear side 3206. Each of the side portions 3102, 3104 has a multi-radius cutout 3108, 3170, and each of the side portions 3202, 3204 has a multi-radius cutout 3208, 3270. The multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 may be similar to Figure 1The multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 of the mounting member 3100, 3200 can be cutouts having a certain shape (e.g., an arch) that reflects a portion of a circle (e.g., a portion of a circle corresponding to 90 degrees, a portion of a circle corresponding to 120 degrees, a portion of a circle corresponding to 180 degrees, etc.) at the center of the corresponding side 3102, 3104, 3202, 3204. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts can be offset from the center of each corresponding side 3102, 3104, 3202, 3204. The multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 have multiple radii to allow the mounting member 3100, 3200 to securely hold a variety of capacitors. For example, the multi-radius cutouts can have two radii that reflect the diameters of the start and run capacitors so that the start and run capacitors are received by the mounting member and fit securely and tightly within the portion of the multi-radius cutout. The multi-radius cutouts may include radii that match, nearly match, or the like, the diameters of the start and run capacitors. For example, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 each have two diameters of about 2.5 inches and about 2.16 inches. This can accommodate cylindrical housings of capacitors such as the Turbo 200, Turbo 200 XL, EasyStart, TES5EXT, etc. manufactured by AmRad (e.g., start capacitors, run capacitors, etc.) with diameters ranging from about 1.75 inches to about 2.6 inches. The mounts 3100, 3200 can accommodate a number of capacitors produced by AmRad Manufacturing Company. In some embodiments, the mount 3100 can accommodate capacitors of different sizes than the mount 3200. For example, one mount can be configured to accommodate a variety of run capacitors, while another mount is configured to accommodate a variety of start capacitors. In other embodiments, the mounts 3100, 3200 can be identical. Although the multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 are described as having two radii, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 may include more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). Also, although the multi-radius cutouts 3108 in the first side 3102 match the multi-radius cutouts 3170 in the second side 3104 in the illustrated example of the mount 3100, in other embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 3108 in the first side 3102 do not match the multi-radius cutouts 3170 in the second side 3104. For example, the multi-radius cutouts 3108 in the first side 3102 may have slightly different dimensions than the multi-radius cutouts 3170 in the second side 3104. Similarly, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the first side 3202 of the second mount 3200 do not match the multi-radius cutouts in the second side 3204 of the second mount 3200 .In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the first side 3102, 3202 or the second side 3104, 3204 can include features for tilting the capacitor (e.g., tilting the capacitor outward at the top to allow better access to the top of the capacitor). In some embodiments, the mount includes a slope for tilting the capacitor. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction at the intersection of the surface 3130, 3230 of the cutout of the mount and the surface of the outside of the cylindrical capacitor. For example, the rubber coating can prevent the capacitor from sliding out of the multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270.
[0180] The mounts 3100, 3200 may use a tie as a securing mechanism to secure the capacitor to the mounts 3100, 3200. For example, the mounts 3100, 3200 also include slots 3110, 3210 for a tie (not shown) to wrap around the capacitor. The slot may include a channel having the following dimensions: a depth of about a quarter inch and a height of about a half inch. The slot 3110 may extend through the interior of the mount 3100, and the slot 3210 may extend through the interior of the mount 3200. In the example shown, the slot 3110 has an open channel portion 3132 and a closed channel portion 3134. The slot 3210 has an open channel portion 3232 and a closed channel portion 3234. Some designs may have multiple slots to hold multiple tie straps. For example, some designs may include two, three, or more slots. This may be advantageous because more securing mechanisms make the capacitor more secure within the mounts 3100, 3200. In some embodiments, one of the mounts 3100, 3200 may have more or fewer slots than the other mount. While one strap may be inserted into one of the open channels, extend through the closed channel, and exit the other open channel, multiple straps may also be used. For example, the straps may include, for example, hook and loop straps, straps with buckles, tie straps, etc. When implemented, the strap (or straps) may secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3208.
[0181] The mounting members 3100 and 3200 can be mounted to the surface in a variety of ways. For example, the mounting members 3100 and 3200 include holes 3114 and 3214 for attaching the mounting members to the surface (e.g., the outside of the air conditioning system). The holes 3114 and 3214 can allow a variety of fasteners (not shown) to attach the mounting members to the surface. In some embodiments, the fasteners may include, for example, wood screws, machine screws, nails, etc. In some embodiments, the holes 3114 and 3214 may intersect with the corresponding grooves 3110 and 3210 (e.g., respectively with the closed portion 3134 of the groove 3110 and the closed portion 3214 of the groove 3210) so that the fasteners attach the mounting members via the straps held in the grooves 3110 and 3210. In some embodiments, the mounting members 3100 and 3200 may include more or fewer holes (no holes, two holes, three holes, etc.). In some embodiments, one of the mounting members may include more or fewer holes than the other mounting member. In some embodiments, the mount 3100, 3200 can be attached to a surface using a strap, cable tie, cable, etc. inserted through the slot 3110, 3210. For example, a strap can be inserted through the slot 3110, 3210 and wrapped around a post, pole, etc. to attach the mount 3100, 3200 to the post, pole, etc.
[0182] The mount 3100 includes modular connectors 3150, 3152 located on either side of the mount 3100. The modular connectors 3150, 3152 can allow the mount 3100 to be connected to a similar mount (e.g., a mount with a similar connector). For example, the mount 3200 includes similar modular connectors 3250, 3252 located on either side of the mount 3200. The modular connector 3150 is a protrusion, and the modular connector 3252 is a recess that receives the modular connector 3150 to connect the mount 3100 to the mount 3200. Multiple other mounts can be connected to the mounts 3100 and 3200 by inserting other modular connectors into the modular connector 3152 or the modular connector 3250. The modular connectors 3150, 3152, 3250, 3252 can have a variety of shapes that allow multiple mounts 3100, 3200 to be connected together (e.g., via an interference fit, a snap fit, etc.).
[0183] Fig.33A rear view of the mount 3100, 3200 is shown. The mounts 3100, 3200 each include two cylindrical magnetic elements 3120, 3122, 3220, 3222 that can be embedded in the mount 3100, 3200. For example, the magnetic elements 3120, 3122, 3220, 3222 can be flush with the rear surface of the mount 3100, 3200 so that the rear surface of the mount 3100, 3200 is flat. The magnetic elements 3120, 3122, 3220, 3222 can assist in the installation of the mount 3100, 3200 (e.g., to an air conditioning system) so that the surface of the mount 3100, 3200 magnetically engages the surface of the air conditioning system. For example, the magnetic elements 3120, 3122, 3220, 3222 can be similar to the magnetic elements 120, 122 of the mount 100 described above. In some embodiments, one of the mounts may have more or fewer magnetic elements than the other mount.
[0184] In some embodiments, in addition to magnetic elements, etc., the rear portion of the mounting member 3100, 3200 may include other attachment mechanisms that can replace the magnetic elements. For example, in some embodiments, the rear surface of the mounting member 3100, 3200 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mounting member 3100, 3200 and the mounting surface. For example, when the mounting member is magnetically attached, the rubber coating can prevent the mounting member 3100, 3200 from sliding relative to the surface. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mounting member 3100, 3200 can be coated with an adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) to attach the mounting member 3100, 3200 to the surface. In some embodiments, a fastener can be inserted through the hole 3114, 3214 to attach the mounting member 3100, 3200 to the surface and prevent the mounting member 3100, 3200 from sliding relative to the surface.
[0185] Fig.34 and 35 A top view of the mounts 3100, 3200 and a bottom view of the mounts 3100, 3200 are shown, respectively. Fig.34 and 35The multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 are shown in more detail. As shown, the multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 in both the top side 3104, 3204 and the bottom side 3102, 3104 of the mounts 3100, 3200 are identical. However, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the top side 3104, 3204 may be different from the multi-radius cutouts in the bottom side 3104, 3204, as discussed above. Similarly, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the side 3102, 3104 of the first mount 3100 may be different from the multi-radius cutouts in the side 3202, 3204 of the second mount 3200, as discussed above. The multi-radius cuts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270 each have a first radius 3146, 3246 and a second radius 3148, 3248. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cuts can have more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). The multi-radius cuts can include larger or smaller radii within the cuts. In the illustrated embodiment, the second radius 3148, 3248 is less than the first radius 3146, 3246 of each cut; alternatively, the second radius 3148, 3248 can be greater than the first radius 3146, 3246 of each cut. The second radius 3148, 3248 is also centered in each of the multi-radius cuts 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270, and each of the cuts has a first radius 3146, 3246 on either end of the second radius 3148, 3248. However, in some embodiments, the second radius 3148, 3248 of each cutout may not be centered in the corresponding multi-radius cutout 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270. For example, the left half of the cutout 3108 may have a first radius 3146, and the second half of the cutout 3108 may have a second radius 3148. Similarly, the left half of the cutout 3208 may have a first radius 3246, and the second half of the cutout 3208 may have a second radius 3248. In some embodiments, the cutout may have a change in radius throughout. For example, the radius may be variable throughout the cutout. For example, a multi-radius cutout may include any shape and any number of radii to provide a desired shape for a housing that accommodates a capacitor.
[0186] The first radius 3146, 3246 can have a diameter of about 2.5 inches, and the second radius 3148, 3248 can have a diameter of about 2.16 inches. This can accommodate circular capacitors having a diameter of about 2 inches to about 2.6 inches. For example, the first radius 3146 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of about 2.5 inches, and the second radius 3148 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of about 2.16 inches. Similarly, the first radius 3246 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of about 2.5 inches, and the second radius 3248 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of about 2.16 inches. This can allow capacitors having a diameter of about 2 inches to about 2.6 inches to fit tightly into the multi-radius cutout. Because the multi-radius cutouts 3170, 3270 in the top sides 3104, 3204 match the multi-radius cutouts 3108, 3208 in the bottom sides 3102, 3202, capacitors are allowed to be equally seated in each cutout 3108, 3170, 3208, 3270. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the top sides 3104, 3204 may be different than the multi-radius cutouts in the bottom sides 3102, 3202, as discussed above.
[0187] The mounts 3100, 3200 may also have several openings for different types of securing mechanisms. For example, the mount 3100 may also include openings 3136, 3138, 3140, 3142 for additional straps or cables (not shown), if desired. Similarly, the mount 3200 may include openings 3236, 3238, 3240, 3242 for additional straps or cables. The openings 3136, 3138, 3140, 3142 may be connected by a closed passage extending through the side 3102, 3104 of the mount 3100. In some embodiments, the openings 3136, 3138, 3140, 3142 may be connected by a closed passage extending through the back side 3106 of the mount 3100. The openings 3136, 3138, 3140, 3142 may have different sizes, shapes, etc. In the illustrated embodiment, the dimensions of the openings 3136, 3138, 3140, 3142 are smaller than the corresponding dimensions of the slot 3110. For example, the dimensions of the openings can be: about one-tenth of an inch in width and about one-quarter of an inch in height. The dimensions can be smaller than the dimensions of the slot to allow the use of multiple smaller straps (e.g., ties, cable ties, ropes, etc.). The smaller straps can be used to secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutout. In some embodiments, the capacitor includes a plurality of wires, such as for conducting electricity between the AC unit and the capacitor. The smaller straps can also be used to secure the wires to a mounting member, such as for wire management. In addition to or in lieu of the straps used in the slot 3110, straps can be used in the openings 3136, 3138, 3140, 3142.
[0188] Similarly, the openings 3236, 3238, 3240, 3242 can be connected by a closed channel extending through the side 3202, 3204 of the mount 3200. In some embodiments, the openings 3236, 3238, 3240, 3242 can be connected by a closed channel extending through the back side 3206 of the mount 3200. The openings 3236, 3238, 3240, 3242 can have different sizes, shapes, etc. In the illustrated embodiment, the dimensions of the openings 3236, 3238, 3240, 3242 are smaller than the corresponding dimensions of the slot 3210. For example, the dimensions of the openings can be: about one-tenth of an inch in width and about one-quarter of an inch in height. The dimensions can be smaller than the dimensions of the slot to allow the use of multiple smaller straps (e.g., ties, cable ties, ropes, etc.). The smaller straps can be used to secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutout 3208. In some embodiments, the capacitor includes a number of wires, for example, to conduct electricity between the AC unit and the capacitor. Smaller ties can also be used to secure wires to mounting members, such as for wire management. In addition to or in lieu of the ties used in slot 3210, ties can be used in openings 3236, 3238, 3240, 3242.
[0189] Fig.36 and 37 The right and left views of the mounting members 3100, 3200 are shown, respectively. The rear sides 3106, 3206 can each have a rubber coating (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mounting members 3100, 3200 and the surface to which the mounting members 3100, 3200 are mounted. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the rear sides 3106, 3206 can be the same as the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutout. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the rear sides 3106, 3206 can be different from the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutout. In some embodiments, the rear sides 3106, 3206 do not have a rubber coating. In some embodiments, one of the rear sides has a rubber coating and the other rear side does not have a rubber coating. In some embodiments, one of the rear sides has a rubber coating that is different from the other rear side. In other embodiments, both rear sides have the same rubber coating.
[0190] Fig.36 and 37Also shown are slots 3110, 3210 for straps and cables. As shown, slot 3110 extends completely through mount 3100, and slot 3210 extends completely through mount 3200. For example, slot 3110 extends from an open portion to a closed portion to an open portion on the other side. Slot 3210 also extends from an open portion to a closed portion to an open portion on the other side. Modular connectors 3150, 3152 are located on either side of mount 3100, and modular connectors 3250, 3252 are located on either side of mount 3200. Modular connectors 3150, 3152 can allow mount 3100 to connect to modular connectors 3250, 3252 of mount 3200 and similar mounts (e.g., mounts with similar connectors).
[0191] Fig.38 An engineering drawing of another mount 3800 for a capacitor (e.g., a run capacitor, a start capacitor, etc.) is shown. For example, mount 3800 can be used to stabilize the capacitor and provide wire management during installation of the capacitor, as described above. Mount 3800 is modular and can be connected to other mounts (e.g., mounts similar to mount 3800) to install additional capacitors. For example, Fig.45 Shows multiple modular mounts connected together. Return to reference Fig.38 , the mounting member 3800 is typically a rectangular prism or a cube, but in some embodiments, one or more other shapes such as a pyramid, a cylinder, etc. may be used. Typically, the mounting member 3800 has a front side for accommodating a capacitor and at least one other surface for mounting (e.g., a surface opposite to the capacitor holding surface, such as a rear surface). The mounting member 3800 can have a variety of sizes, such as being sized to accommodate a capacitor. For example, the height of the mounting member 3800 can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, the width can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, and the depth can be in the range of one inch to ten inches. The height, width, and depth can be different from each other; for example, the length of each dimension can be different. In some embodiments, the height, width, and depth are the same so that the mounting member 3800 is in the shape of a cube.
[0192] The mount 3800 can be formed of a variety of materials. For example, the mount 3800 can be formed of a rigid material (e.g., a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc.). In some embodiments, the mount 3800 can be formed of a composite of materials including, for example, a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc. In some embodiments, the mount 3800 can be formed of a combination of materials including, for example, a polymer, a ceramic, a metal, etc.
[0193] The mounting member 3800 can be formed via a variety of manufacturing methods. In some embodiments, the mounting member 3800 can be formed via 3D printing (e.g., stereolithography). In some embodiments, the mounting member 3800 can be formed via prefabrication. The mounting member 3800 includes two side portions 3802, 3804 extending from a rear side 3806.
[0194] Each of the two side portions 3802, 3804 has a multi-radius cutout 3808, 3270. The multi-radius cutouts 3808, 3870 may be similar to Figure 1The multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 of the mounting member 3800 can be cutouts having a shape (e.g., an arch) that reflects a portion of a circle (e.g., a 90 degree portion of a circle, a 120 degree portion of a circle, a 180 degree portion of a circle, etc.) at the center of the respective side 3802, 3804. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts can be offset from the center of each respective side 3802, 3804. The multi-radius cutouts 3808, 3870 can each have multiple radii to allow the mounting member 3800 to securely hold a variety of capacitors. For example, each multi-radius cutout can have two radii that reflect the diameters of the start capacitor and the run capacitor, so that the start capacitor and the run capacitor are received by the mounting member and fit securely and tightly within the portion of each multi-radius cutout. Each multi-radius cutout can include a radius that matches, nearly matches, (etc.) the diameters of the start capacitor and the run capacitor. For example, in some embodiments, each multi-radius cutout 3808, 3870 has two diameters of approximately 2.5 inches and approximately 2.16 inches. This can accommodate cylindrical housings of capacitors such as AmRad Manufacturing's Turbo 200, Turbo 200 XL, EasyStart, TES5EXT, etc. (e.g., start capacitors, run capacitors, etc.) with diameters ranging from approximately 1.75 inches to approximately 2.6 inches. Mount 3800 can accommodate several capacitors produced by AmRad Manufacturing. Although multi-radius cutout 3808 is described as having two radii, in some embodiments, each multi-radius cutout 3808, 3870 can include more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). Also, while the multi-radius cutout 3808 in the first side 3802 matches the multi-radius cutout 3870 in the second side 3804 in the example shown, in other embodiments, the multi-radius cutout 3808 in the first side 3802 does not match the multi-radius cutout 3870 in the second side 3804. For example, the multi-radius cutout in the first side 3802 may have slightly different dimensions than the multi-radius cutout in the second side. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutout in the first side or in the second side may include features for tilting the capacitor (e.g., tilting the capacitor outward at the top to allow better access to the top of the capacitor). In some embodiments, the mount includes a ramp for tilting the capacitor. In some embodiments, each multi-radius cutout 3808, 3870 may be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase friction at the intersection of the surface 3830 of the cutout of the mount and the surface of the outside of the cylindrical capacitor. For example, a rubber coating may prevent the capacitor from sliding out of the multi-radius cutouts 3808 , 3870 .
[0195] The mounting member 3800 may use a strap as a securing mechanism to secure the capacitor to the mounting member 3800. For example, the mounting member 3800 also includes a slot 3810 for a strap (not shown) to be wrapped around the capacitor. The slot may include a channel of the following dimensions: a depth of about one quarter inch and a height of about half an inch. The slot 3810 may extend through the interior of the mounting member 3800. In the example shown, the slot has an open channel portion 3832 and a closed channel portion 3834. Some designs may have multiple slots to hold multiple straps. For example, some designs may include two, three, or more slots. This may be advantageous because more securing mechanisms make the capacitor more secure within the mounting member 3800. Although one strap may be inserted into one of the open channels, extend through the closed channel, and come out of another open channel, multiple straps may also be used. For example, the strap may include, for example, a hook and loop strap, a strap with a buckle, a tie strap, and the like. When implemented, the strap (or straps) may secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutouts 3808 , 3870 .
[0196] The mounting piece 3800 can be mounted to a surface in a variety of ways. For example, the mounting piece 3800 includes a hole 3814 for attaching the mounting piece to a surface (e.g., the outside of an air conditioning system). The hole 3814 can allow a variety of fasteners (not shown) to attach the mounting piece to the surface. In some embodiments, the fasteners may include, for example, wood screws, machine screws, nails, etc. In some embodiments, the hole 3814 may intersect with the slot 3810 (e.g., with the closed portion 3834 of the slot 3810) so that the fastener attaches the mounting piece via a strap held in the slot 3810. In some embodiments, the mounting piece 3800 may include more or fewer holes (no holes, two holes, three holes, etc.). In some embodiments, the mounting piece 3800 can be attached to a surface using a strap, a cable tie, a cable, etc. inserted through the slot 3810. For example, a strap may be inserted through the slot 3810 and wrapped around a pillar, a rod, etc. to attach the mounting piece 3800 to a pillar, a rod, etc. The hole 3814 is shown as being angled, but may not be angled in some embodiments.
[0197] The mounting member 3800 also includes modular connectors 3850, 3852 located on either side of the mounting member 3800. The modular connectors 3850, 3852 can allow the mounting member 3800 to be connected to a similar mounting member (e.g., a mounting member having a similar connector). The modular connector 3850 is a protrusion, and the modular connector 3852 is a recess configured to receive the modular connector 3850. Multiple mounting members 3800 can be connected to each other by inserting the modular connector 3850 into the modular connector 3852. The modular connectors 3850, 3852 can have a variety of shapes that allow multiple mounting members 3800 to be connected together (e.g., via an interference fit, a snap fit, etc.). As discussed above, a single mounting member 3800 can also be used alone to mount a capacitor.
[0198] Fig.39 A rear view of the mount 3800 is shown. In some embodiments, the rear portion of the mount 3800 may include a magnetic element, as discussed above. In some embodiments, in addition to magnetic elements, etc., the mount 3800 may include other attachment mechanisms that can replace the magnetic elements. For example, in some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 3800 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mount 3800 and the mounting surface. For example, the rubber coating can prevent the mount 3800 from sliding relative to the surface, such as when the mount is attached magnetically. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 3800 can be coated with an adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) to attach the mount 3800 to the surface. In some embodiments, a fastener can be inserted through the hole 3814 to attach the mount 3800 to the surface and prevent the mount 3800 from sliding relative to the surface.
[0199] Slot 3810 has an open portion located on the rear of mount 3800. For example, closed portion 3834 on the front of mount 3800 can be aligned with the open portion of slot 3810 on the rear of mount 3800. Providing an accessible portion of slot 3810 on the rear of mount 3800 can assist a user when feeding a strap through slot 3810. For example, a user can pull a strap through the rear of mount 3800 while feeding the strap through closed portion 3834 of slot 3810.
[0200] Fig.40 Show Fig.383800. In the illustrated embodiment, the multi-radius cutout 3870 in the bottom side 3804 of the mount 3800 matches the multi-radius cutout 3808 in the top side 3802 of the mount 3800. However, in some embodiments, as discussed above, the multi-radius cutout in the top side 3804 can be different from the multi-radius cutout in the bottom side 3802. The illustrated multi-radius cutout 3808 has a first radius 3846 and a second radius 3848. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutout can have more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). The multi-radius cutout can include larger or smaller radii within the cutout. In the illustrated embodiment, the second radius 3848 is smaller than the first radius 3846; alternatively, the second radius 3848 can be larger than the first radius 3846. The second radius 3848 is also centered in the multi-radius cutout 3808, and the cutout has the first radius 3846 on either end of the second radius 3848. However, in some embodiments, the second radius 3848 may not be centered in the multi-radius cutout 3808. For example, the left half of the cutout 3808 may have the first radius 3846, and the second half of the cutout 3808 may have the second radius 3848. In some embodiments, the radius may vary throughout the cutout. For example, the radius may be variable throughout the cutout. For example, the multi-radius cutout may include any shape and any number of radii to provide a desired shape for a housing that houses a capacitor.
[0201] The diameters of the first radius 3846 and the second radius 3848 can be approximately 2.5 inches and approximately 2.16 inches, respectively. This can accommodate circular capacitors having a diameter of approximately 2 inches to approximately 2.6 inches. For example, the first radius 3846 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of approximately 2.5 inches, and the second radius 3848 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of approximately 2.16 inches. This can allow capacitors having a diameter of approximately 2 inches to approximately 2.6 inches to fit tightly into the multi-radius cutouts. Having the same multi-radius cutouts 3808 in the top side 3804 and the bottom side 3802 allows capacitors to be equally positioned in each cutout 3808. In some embodiments, as discussed above, the multi-radius cutouts in the top side 3804 can be different from the multi-radius cutouts in the bottom side 3802.
[0202] Fig.41 The mounting member 3800 is shown along Fig.383800. The cross section shows slot 3810 in more detail. As discussed above, slot 3810 is accessible from the front of the mount from open portion 3832. As discussed above, slot 3810 is also accessible from the rear of the mount. This can be advantageous, for example, to assist a user in feeding a strap through slot 3810, since each portion of slot 3810 is accessible from the front or rear of mount 3800. The edges of slot 3810 can be tapered, for example, to assist a user in feeding a strap through slot 3810. In some embodiments, the edges of slot 3810 are not tapered.
[0203] Fig.42 and Fig.43 Shown separately Fig.38 3800. The rear side 3806 may have a rubber coating (e.g., butadiene, butyl, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase friction between the mount 3800 and the surface to which the mount 3800 is mounted. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the rear side 3806 may be the same as the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutout. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the rear side 3806 may be different from the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutout. In some embodiments, the rear side 3806 may not have a rubber coating. A protrusion 3850 extends from one side of the mount 3800, and a recess 3852 is disposed on the other side of the mount 3800. In some embodiments, the protrusion 3850 is disposed on the right side of the mount 3800, and the recess 3852 is disposed on the left side of the mount 3800. In other embodiments, the opposite is true.
[0204] Fig.44 A perspective view of the mount 3800 is shown. Modular connectors 3850, 3852 are located on either side of the mount 3800 and may allow the mount 3800 to be connected to a similar mount (eg, a mount having a similar connector).
[0205] Fig.45 Another mounting member 4500 for a capacitor (e.g., a run capacitor, a start capacitor, etc.) is shown. For example, the mounting member 4500 can be used to stabilize the capacitor and provide wire management during the installation of the capacitor, as described above. The mounting member 4500 is modular and consists of multiple mounting members (e.g., similar to Fig.38 The mounting member 3800 is formed to mount an additional capacitor. For example, Fig.45Two modular mounts 4600, 4700 are shown connected to each other. Each of the mounts 4600, 4700 is typically a rectangular prism or a cube, but in some embodiments, one or more other shapes such as a pyramid, a cylinder, etc. may be used. Typically, the mounts 4600, 4700 have a front side for receiving a capacitor and at least one other surface for mounting (e.g., a surface opposite to the capacitor holding surface, such as a rear surface). The mounts 4600, 4700 can have a variety of sizes, such as being sized to receive a capacitor. For example, the height of each of the mounts 4600, 4700 can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, the width can be in the range of one inch to ten inches, and the depth can be in the range of one inch to ten inches. The height, width, and depth can be different from each other; for example, the length of each dimension can be different. In some embodiments, the height, width, and depth are the same so that the mounts 4600, 4700 are in the shape of a cube. In some embodiments, the mount 4600 can have different dimensions than the mount 4700. In other embodiments, mounts 4600, 4700 have the same dimensions.
[0206] Mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed from a variety of materials. For example, mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed from a rigid material (e.g., a polymer, ceramic, metal, etc.). In some embodiments, mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed from a composite of materials, such as polymers, ceramics, metals, etc. In some embodiments, mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed from a combination of materials, such as polymers, ceramics, metals, etc. In some embodiments, mounting member 4600 can be formed from a different material than mounting member 4700. In other embodiments, mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed from the same material.
[0207] Mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed via a variety of manufacturing methods. In some embodiments, mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed via 3D printing (e.g., stereolithography). In some embodiments, mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed via prefabrication. In some embodiments, mounting member 4600 can be formed via a different manufacturing method than mounting member 4700. In other embodiments, mounting members 4600, 4700 can be formed via the same manufacturing method.
[0208] The mounting member 4600 includes two side portions 4602, 4604 extending from a rear side 4606. The mounting member 4700 includes two side portions 4702, 4704 extending from a rear side 4706. Each of the side portions 4602, 4604 has a multi-radius cutout 4608, 4670, and each of the side portions 4702, 4704 has a multi-radius cutout 4708, 4770. The multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 may be similar to Figure 1The multi-radius cutouts 108, 170 of the mounting member 4600, 4700 can be cutouts having a shape (e.g., an arcuate shape) that reflects a portion of a circle (e.g., a 90 degree portion of a circle, a 120 degree portion of a circle, a 180 degree portion of a circle, etc.) at the center of the respective side 4602, 4604, 4702, 4704. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts can be offset from the center of each respective side 4602, 4604, 4702, 4704. The multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 have multiple radii to allow the mounting member 4600, 4700 to securely hold a variety of capacitors. For example, the multi-radius cutouts can have two radii that reflect the diameters of the start capacitor and the run capacitor, such that the start capacitor and the run capacitor are received by the mounting member and fit securely and snugly within the portions of the multi-radius cutouts. The multi-radius cutouts may include radii that match, nearly match, or the like, the diameters of the start capacitor and the run capacitor. For example, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 each have two diameters of about 2.5 inches and about 2.16 inches. This can accommodate cylindrical housings of capacitors such as AmRad Manufacturing's Turbo 200, Turbo 200 XL, EasyStart, TES5EXT, etc. (e.g., start capacitors, run capacitors, etc.) with diameters ranging from about 1.75 inches to about 2.6 inches. Mounts 4600, 4700 can accommodate a number of capacitors produced by AmRad Manufacturing. In some embodiments, mount 4600 can accommodate capacitors of different sizes than mount 4700. For example, one mount can be configured to accommodate multiple run capacitors, while another mount is configured to accommodate multiple start capacitors. In other embodiments, mounts 4600, 4700 can be identical. While the multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 are described as having two radii, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 may include more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). Also, while the multi-radius cutouts 4608 in the first side 4602 match the multi-radius cutouts 4670 in the second side 4604 in the illustrated example of the mount 4600, in other embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 4608 in the first side 4602 do not match the multi-radius cutouts 4670 in the second side 4604. For example, the multi-radius cutouts 4608 in the first side 4602 may have slightly different dimensions than the multi-radius cutouts 4670 in the second side 4604. Similarly, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the first side 4702 of the second mount 4700 do not match the multi-radius cutouts in the second side 4704 of the second mount 4700 .In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the first side 4602, 4702 or the second side 4604, 4704 can include features for tilting the capacitor (e.g., tilting the capacitor outward at the top to allow better access to the top of the capacitor). In some embodiments, the mounting piece includes a sloped surface for tilting the capacitor. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction at the intersection of the surface 4630, 4730 of the cutout of the mounting piece and the surface of the outside of the cylindrical capacitor. For example, the rubber coating can prevent the capacitor from sliding out of the multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770.
[0209] Mounting members 4600, 4700 may use a tie as a securing mechanism to secure the capacitor to mounting members 4600, 4700. For example, mounting members 4600, 4700 also include slots 4610, 4710 for a tie (not shown) to wrap around the capacitor. The slot may include a channel having a dimension of about a quarter inch in depth and about a half inch in height. Slot 4610 may extend through the interior of mounting member 4600, and slot 4710 may extend through the interior of mounting member 4700. In the example shown, slot 4610 has an open channel portion 4632 and a closed channel portion 4634. Slot 4710 has an open channel portion 4732 and a closed channel portion 4734. Some designs may have multiple slots to hold multiple tie straps. For example, some designs may include two, three, or more slots. This may be advantageous because more securing mechanisms make the capacitor more secure within mounting members 4600, 4700. In some embodiments, one of the mounts 4600, 4700 may have more or fewer slots than the other mount. While one strap may be inserted into one of the open channels, extend through the closed channel, and exit the other open channel, multiple straps may also be used. For example, the straps may include, for example, hook and loop straps, straps with buckles, tie straps, etc. When implemented, the strap (or straps) may secure the capacitor within the multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4708.
[0210] Mounting members 4600, 4700 can be mounted to a surface in a variety of ways. For example, mounting members 3600, 4700 include holes 4614, 4714 for attaching the mounting member to a surface (e.g., the outside of an air conditioning system). Holes 4614, 4714 can allow a variety of fasteners (not shown) to attach the mounting member to the surface. In some embodiments, fasteners may include, for example, wood screws, machine screws, nails, etc. In some embodiments, holes 4614, 4714 may intersect with corresponding slots 4610, 4710 (e.g., respectively with closed portions 4634 of slot 4610 and closed portions 4714 of slot 4710) so that the fasteners attach the mounting member via a strap held in slots 4610, 4710. In some embodiments, mounting members 4600, 4700 may include more or fewer holes (no holes, two holes, three holes, etc.). In some embodiments, one of the mounting members may include more or fewer holes than another mounting member. In some embodiments, the mount 4600, 4700 can be attached to a surface using a strap, cable tie, cable, etc. that is inserted through the slot 4610, 4710. For example, a strap can be inserted through the slot 4610, 4710 and wrapped around a post, pole, etc. to attach the mount 4600, 4700 to the post, pole, etc.
[0211] Mounting piece 4600 includes modular connectors 4650, 4652 located on either side of mounting piece 4600. Modular connectors 4650, 4652 can allow mounting piece 4600 to be connected to similar mounting pieces (e.g., mounting pieces with similar connectors). For example, mounting piece 4700 includes similar modular connectors 4750, 4752 located on either side of mounting piece 4700. Modular connector 4650 is a protrusion, and modular connector 4752 is a recess that receives modular connector 4650 to connect mounting piece 4600 to mounting piece 4700. Multiple other mounting pieces can be connected to mounting pieces 4600 and 4700 by inserting other modular connectors into modular connector 4652 or modular connector 4750. Modular connectors 4650, 4652, 4750, 4752 can have a variety of shapes that allow multiple mounting pieces 4600, 4700 to be connected together (e.g., via interference fit, snap fit, etc.).
[0212] Fig.46A rear view of the mount 4600, 4700 is shown. In some embodiments, a fastener can be inserted through the hole 4614, 4714 to attach the mount 4600, 4700 to a surface and prevent the mount 4600, 4700 from sliding relative to the surface. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 4600, 4700 can be coated with a rubber material (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mount 4600, 4700 and the mounting surface. For example, the rubber coating can prevent the mount 4600, 4700 from sliding relative to the surface, such as when the mount is attached via the fastener in the hole 4614, 4714. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the mount 4600, 4700 can be coated with an adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) to attach the mount 4600, 4700 to the surface. In some embodiments, the rear surface of one of the mounts 4600, 4700 can be coated with an adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) and the rear surface of the other of the mounts 4600, 4700 has no adhesive. In some embodiments, a piece of adhesive (e.g., double-sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.) can be placed across both mounts 4600, 4700.
[0213] Fig.47 and 48 A top view of the mounts 4600, 4700 and a bottom view of the mounts 4600, 4700 are shown, respectively. Fig.47 and 48The multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 are shown in more detail. As shown, the multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 are the same in both the top side 4604, 4704 and the bottom side 4602, 4702 of the mount 4600, 4700. However, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the top side 4604, 4704 can be different from the multi-radius cutouts in the bottom side 4602, 4702, as discussed above. Similarly, in some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the side 4602, 4604 of the first mount 4600 can be different from the multi-radius cutouts in the side 4702, 4704 of the second mount 4700, as discussed above. The multi-radius cuts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770 each have a first radius 4646, 4746 and a second radius 4648, 4748. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cuts can have more or fewer radii (e.g., one radius, three radii, four radii, etc.). The multi-radius cuts can include larger or smaller radii within the cuts. In the illustrated embodiment, the second radius 4648, 4748 of each cut is smaller than the first radius 4646, 4746; alternatively, the second radius 4648, 4748 of each cut can be larger than the first radius 4646, 4746. The second radius 4648, 4748 is also centered in each of the multi-radius cuts 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770, and each of the cuts has the first radius 4646, 4746 on either end of the second radius 4648, 4748. However, in some embodiments, the second radius 4648, 4748 of each cutout may not be centered in the corresponding multi-radius cutout 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770. For example, the left half of the cutout 4608 may have the first radius 4646, and the second half of the cutout 4608 may have the second radius 4648. Similarly, the left half of the cutout 4708 may have the first radius 4746, and the second half of the cutout 4708 may have the second radius 4748. In some embodiments, the radius may vary throughout the cutout. For example, the radius may be variable throughout the cutout. For example, the multi-radius cutout may include any shape and any number of radii to provide a desired shape for a housing that accommodates a capacitor.
[0214] The first radius 4646, 4746 can have a diameter of about 2.5 inches, and the second radius 4648, 4748 can have a diameter of about 2.16 inches. This can accommodate circular capacitors having a diameter of about 2 inches to about 2.6 inches. For example, the first radius 4646 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of about 2.5 inches, and the second radius 4648 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of about 2.16 inches. Similarly, the first radius 4746 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of about 2.5 inches, and the second radius 4748 can accommodate a capacitor having a diameter of about 2.16 inches. This can allow capacitors having a diameter of about 2 inches to about 2.6 inches to fit tightly into the multi-radius cutout. Matching the multi-radius cutouts 4670, 4770 in the top side 4604, 4704 with the multi-radius cutouts 4608, 4708 in the bottom side 4602, 4702 allows capacitors to be equally seated in each cutout 4608, 4670, 4708, 4770. In some embodiments, the multi-radius cutouts in the top side 4604, 4704 may be different than the multi-radius cutouts in the bottom side 4602, 4702, as discussed above.
[0215] Fig.49 and 50 The right and left views of the mounting members 4600, 4700 are shown, respectively. The rear sides 4606, 4706 can each have a rubber coating (e.g., butadiene, butyl synthetic rubber, silicone, latex, etc.) to increase the friction between the mounting members 4600, 4700 and the surface to which the mounting members 4600, 4700 are mounted. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the rear sides 4606, 4706 can be the same as the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the rubber coating on the rear sides 4606, 4706 can be different from the rubber coating on the multi-radius cutouts. In some embodiments, the rear sides 4606, 4706 do not have a rubber coating. In some embodiments, one of the rear sides has a rubber coating and the other rear side does not have a rubber coating. In some embodiments, one of the rear sides has a rubber coating that is different from the other rear side. In other embodiments, both rear sides have the same rubber coating.
[0216] The mounts described above may be used to hold a variety of capacitors (eg, start capacitors, run capacitors, etc.) Suitable run capacitors are described in prior US Patent No. 7,203,053, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Fig.51An exemplary run capacitor 2600 is shown. The run capacitor 2600 has a capacitive element 2602 having a plurality of capacitor segments, each having a capacitance value. In the preferred embodiment described herein, the capacitive element 2602 has six capacitor segments 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614. The capacitive element 2602 is a wound cylindrical element made by extension of the technology described in U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,921,041, 4,028,595, 4,352,145, and 5,313,360, each of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. These patents relate to capacitive elements having two capacitor segments rather than a greater number of multiple capacitor segments, such as the six capacitor segments 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614 of the capacitive element 2602. Thus, the capacitive element 2602 has a central reel, mandrel, etc. 2616 having a central opening 2618. A first dielectric film and a second dielectric film, each having a metallized layer on one side thereof, are wound in a cylindrical form on the mandrel 2616, with the non-metallized side of one film in contact with the metallized side of the other film. Selected portions of one or both of the metallized layers are removed to provide a multi-segment capacitive element. An element insulation barrier is inserted into the winding to separate the capacitor segments, the element insulation barrier also assuming a cylindrical configuration. Five element insulation barriers 2620, 2622, 2624, 2626, 2628 are set to separate six capacitor sections 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614, wherein element insulation barrier 2620 separates capacitor sections 2604 and 2606, element insulation barrier 2622 separates capacitor sections 2606 and 2608, element insulation barrier 2624 separates capacitor sections 2608 and 2610, element insulation barrier 2626 separates capacitor sections 2610 and 2612, and element insulation barrier 2628 separates capacitor sections 2612 and 2614.
[0217] The element insulation barrier is an insulating polymer sheet which in capacitor element 2602 is a 0.005 inch thick polypropylene wrapped into capacitor element 2602. Thicknesses of 0.0025 to 0.007 inches may be used. Other materials may also be used. The barriers each have approximately 2 3 / 4-4 wrapped layers of polypropylene sheets, wherein the thickness of the element insulation barrier is about 0.013 inches to 0.020 inches. In capacitors with fewer capacitor sections, the barriers 2620, 2622, 2624, 2626, 2628 are thicker than previously used barriers. An important characteristic of the barriers 2620, 2622, 2624, 2626, 2628 is that they can withstand the heat from adjacent welds without losing the integrity of the electrical insulation so that adjacent sections can become bridged.
[0218] The metallized films each have one unmetallized marginal edge, such that the metallized marginal edge of one film is exposed at one end of the wound capacitive element 2602, and the metallized marginal edge of the other film is exposed at the other end of the capacitive element 2602. At the lower end of the capacitive element 2602, the barriers 2620, 2622, 2624, 2626, 2628 do not extend from the film, and an element common terminal is established to contact the exposed metallized marginal edge of one metallized film of all capacitor segments 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614. The element common terminal is preferably a zinc spray applied to the ends of the capacitive element 2602.
[0219] At the top of the capacitor element 2602, element insulation barriers 2620, 2622, 2624, 2626, 2628 extend over the wrapped metallized film. Each of the capacitor segments 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614 is also provided with a respective capacitor element segment terminal by applying a metal spray (e.g., zinc spray) to the end of the capacitor element 2602, wherein the zinc is disposed on each of the capacitor segments 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614 between and adjacent to the element insulation barriers 2620, 2622, 2624, 2626, 2628. The element segment terminals are identified by reference numerals 2630, 2632, 2634, 2636, 2638, 2640. The element segment terminals 2630 of capacitor segment 2604 extend from the outermost element insulation barrier 2620 to the outer surface of the capacitive element 2602, and the element segment terminals 2640 of capacitor segment 2614 extend from the innermost element insulation barrier 2628 to the central mandrel 2616. The element segment terminals 2632, 2634, 2636, 2638, 2640 are disposed on capacitor segments 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614, respectively.
[0220] The conductors, preferably in the form of six insulated wires, each have one of their ends welded to a respective element section terminal 2630, 2632, 2634, 2636, 2638, 2640. The thickness of the polypropylene barriers 2620, 2622, 2624, 2626, 2628 resists any burn-through caused by welding the wires to the terminals 2630, 2632, 2634, 2636, 2638, 2640.
[0221] The insulation of the wires may be color coded to facilitate identification of which wire is connected to which capacitor segment. The wire connected to component segment terminal 2640 of capacitor segment 2604 has blue insulation material, the wire connected to component segment terminal 2632 of capacitor segment 2606 has yellow insulation material, the wire connected to component segment terminal 2634 of capacitor segment 2608 has red insulation material, the wire connected to component segment terminal 2636 of capacitor segment 2610 has white insulation material, the wire connected to component segment terminal 2638 of capacitor segment 2612 has white insulation material, and the wire connected to component segment terminal 2640 of capacitor segment 2614 has green insulation material.
[0222] The capacitive element 2602 is further provided with a foil strip conductor 2642, one end of which is attached to the element common terminal at 2644. The foil strip conductor 2642 is coated with an insulating material, except for the attachment point 2644 and its distal end. The conductor connected to the external capacitor element section 2604 and its terminal 2630 may also be a foil strip conductor. Foil, wire conductors, etc. may be used for all connections as desired.
[0223] In the capacitive element 2602 used in the run capacitor 2600, the value of capacitor section 2604 is about 25.0 microfarads (e.g., about 20 microfarads to about 30 microfarads), and the capacitance of capacitor section 2606 is about 20.0 microfarads (e.g., about 15 microfarads to about 25 microfarads). The capacitance of capacitor section 2608 is about 10.0 microfarads (e.g., about 5 microfarads to about 15 microfarads). The capacitance of capacitor section 2610 is about 5.5 microfarads (e.g., about 2.5 microfarads to about 10 microfarads), but can be identified as having a capacitance of 5.0 microfarads for the purpose of further discussion in U.S. Patent No. 10,586,655, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. The capacitance of capacitor segment 2612 is about 4.5 microfarads (e.g., about 2.5 microfarads to about 10 microfarads), but is identified as having a capacitance of 5 microfarads, for example, for the purposes described in U.S. Pat. No. 10,586,655, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. The capacitance of capacitor segment 2614 is 2.8 microfarads (e.g., about 1 microfarad to about 5 microfarads). Capacitor segment 2604, which has the largest capacitance value, also has the most metal film and is therefore advantageously positioned as an outer segment of capacitive element 2602 or at least one of the three outer segments.
[0224] The run capacitor 2600 also has a housing 2646 having a cylindrical side 2648, a bottom side 2650, and an open top 2652 of the side 2648. The housing 2646 is formed of aluminum, and the outer diameter of the cylindrical side 2648 is 2.50 inches. This is the diameter of a capacitor of this type, in which the run capacitor 2600 will be easily received in the mount described above. However, other diameters may be used, and the housing may also be made of a suitable material (e.g., plastic).
[0225] The capacitor element 2602 with the wire and foil strip 2642 is received in the housing 2646 with the element common terminal adjacent to the bottom side 2664 of the housing. An insulating bottom cup 2654 is preferably provided to insulate the capacitor element 2602 from the bottom side 2650, the bottom cup 2654 having a center post 2656 received in the center opening 2618 of the mandrel 2616 and an upwardly turned skirt 2658 that surrounds the underside of the cylindrical capacitor element 2602 and spaces it from the side 2648 of the housing 2646.
[0226] An insulating fluid 2660 is disposed within the housing 2646, at least partially and preferably substantially surrounding the capacitive element 2602. The fluid 2660 may be a fluid described in U.S. Pat. No. 6,014,308, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. In other embodiments, the fluid 2660 may be other fluids, such as polybutylene, etc.
[0227] The run capacitor 2600 also has a pressure interrupter cover assembly 2662. The cover assembly 2662 includes a deformable circular cover 2664 having an upstanding cylindrical skirt 2666 and a peripheral rim 2668. The skirt 2666 fits into the open top 2652 of the cylindrical side 2648 of the housing 2646, and the peripheral rim 2668 is crimped to the open top 2652 of the housing 2646 to seal the interior of the run capacitor 2600 and the fluid 2660 contained therein.
[0228] The pressure interrupter cover assembly 2662 includes seven cover terminals mounted on a deformable cover 2664. A common cover terminal 2670 is generally centrally mounted on the cover 2664, and a segment cover terminal, each corresponding to one of the capacitor segments 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614, is mounted at spaced locations around the common cover terminal 2670. The segment cover terminal 2672 has three upright blades mounted on the upper end of the terminal support. The terminal support has a distal end opposite the blades. The cover 2664 has an opening for accommodating the terminal support and has an inclined lip surrounding the opening. A molded silicone insulator fits tightly in the inclined lip under the cover, and the terminal support passes through the insulator. On the upper side of the cover, an insulator cup 2674 also surrounds the post, and the insulator cup is located on top of the silicone insulator; therefore, the terminal 2672 and its terminal post are well insulated from the cover 2664. The other cover segment terminals are similarly mounted with insulator cups and silicone insulators. The pressure interrupter cover assembly 2662 provides such protection for the run capacitor 2600 and its capacitive element 2602. Degassing can cause the circular cover 2664 to deform upward into a generally dome shape. When the cover 2664 is deformed, the terminal post is also displaced upward from the disconnect plate 2676, and the welded connection of the distal end of the common cover terminal post to the distal foil lead of the element common terminal 2636 from the capacitive element 2602 is disconnected, and the weld between the foil tab and the terminal post of the segment cover terminal is also disconnected. Positioning the common cover terminal 2670 in the center of the cover 2664, where deformation of the cover 2664 is greatest, ensures that the common cover terminal connection is disconnected first and with certainty in the event of a failure of the capacitive element 2602.
[0229] In this example, the common cover terminal 2670 has four blades and has terminal pillars passing through the silicone insulator. The common cover terminal 2670 is mounted with a cover insulator barrier 2678, which includes an elongated cylindrical center barrier cup 2680 surrounding the blades of the common cover terminal 2670 and extending above the blades, and six barrier wings 2682 extending radially outward from the elongated center barrier cup 2680 respectively so that they are deployed between adjacent segment cover terminals. This provides additional protection to prevent any arcing contact between adjacent segment cover terminals and the common cover terminal 2670, etc. Alternatively, the common cover terminal 2670 can be provided with an insulator cup 2680, preferably extending above the blades without separating barrier wings, but barrier wings 2682 are preferred. The terminal pillars extend through the openings in the bottom of the base of the insulating barrier cup 2680 and through the silicone insulator to the distal end.
[0230] The pressure interrupter cover assembly 2662 has a fiberboard disk through which the terminal posts of the segment cover terminals extend. The disk may also be made of other suitable materials such as polymers. For assembly purposes, the terminal posts are configured as rivets having rivet flanges. The terminal posts are inserted through the disk, insulator, insulator cup and barrier cup 2680, and the cover terminals are spot welded to the ends of the rivets opposite the rivet flanges. Thus, the rivet flanges secure the cover terminals in the cover 2664 together with the insulator barrier 2678, the insulator cup 2674 and the silicone insulator. The fiberboard disk facilitates this assembly, but may be omitted as desired. Preferably, the distal ends of the terminal posts are exposed below the rivet flanges.
[0231] The cover assembly 2662 has a disconnect plate 2676. The disconnect plate 2676 is made of a rigid insulating material, such as phenolic resin, and is spaced apart below the cover 2664 by a spacer in the form of a skirt. The disconnect plate 2676 is provided with an opening to accommodate the distal end of the terminal support. The disconnect plate 2676 is further described in prior U.S. Patent No. 10,586,655, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
[0232] In prior art capacitors having three or fewer capacitor sections, the conductor between the capacitor sections and the terminal posts is typically a foil strip, such as the foil strip used herein for the common element terminal 2636 of the capacitive element 2602. The foil strip is positioned on the breaker board above the distal end of the terminal post and welded to the distal end of the terminal post. In the run capacitor 2600, the distal end 2644 of the foil strip 2642 is connected to the distal end of the terminal post by welding, as in prior art capacitors.
[0233] The wire may not be well configured to be welded to the distal end of the terminal support of the cover segment terminal. However, the wire is desirable rather than the foil strip because the wire is better accommodated in the housing 2646 and has good insulation properties, is resistant to notching, and is easily obtained with colored insulating materials. In order to make the necessary connection of the wire to its corresponding terminal support, a foil tab is welded to each of the distal ends of the terminal support of the segment cover terminal, and a guide helps to position the foil tab for the welding process. The attachment can be achieved by welding the distal end of the foil strip to the terminal support, and then cutting the foil strip to leave the foil tab. Subsequently, the conductor of the wire is welded to the tab by solder. The insulating material of the wire has been stripped to expose the conductor. Other wires are similarly connected to their corresponding cover segment terminals. Alternatively, the foil tab can be welded to the wire, and then the tab can be welded to the terminal support, and other conductive attachments can be used as needed.
[0234] Accordingly, each of the capacitor segments 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614 is connected to a corresponding segment cover cap terminal by a corresponding one of the color-coded wires. The insulator cup 2674 associated with each of the segment cover cap terminals is also color-coded using the same color scheme used in the wires. This facilitates assembly because each capacitor segment and its wire conductor is easily associated with the correct corresponding segment cover cap terminal so that the correct capacitor segment can be identified on the cover to make the desired connection for establishing a selected capacitance value.
[0235] The connection of the wires and foils to the terminal posts is made prior to placing the capacitor element 2602 in the housing 2646, adding the dielectric fluid 2660, and sealing the cover 2664 of the cover assembly 2662 to the housing 2646. The housing 2646 may be marked with the capacitance values of the capacitor segments 2604, 2606, 2608, 2610, 2612, 2614 adjacent to the cover terminals, such as on a side of the housing 2646 near the cover 2664, on the cover 2664, etc.
[0236] The run capacitor 2600 can be used to replace a faulty capacitor having any of over two hundred different capacitance values, both single and double applied. Thus, a maintenance person is able to replace nearly any faulty capacitor he may encounter when he makes a maintenance call on equipment of various makes, models, ages, etc.
[0237] As mentioned above, it is expected that the run capacitor 2600 will be most widely used to service air conditioning units. Air conditioning units typically have two capacitors; a capacitor for the compressor motor, which may or may not have a relatively high capacitance value; and a capacitor with a relatively lower capacitance value for the fan motor. The capacitance of the compressor motor capacitor is typically 20 microfarads to about 60 microfarads. The capacitance value of the fan motor capacitor is typically about 2.5 microfarads to 12.5 microfarads, and sometimes as high as 15 microfarads, but values at the lower end of this range are the most common.
[0238] The mounts described above may be used to hold capacitors other than run capacitors, such as start capacitors. For example, a motor may use both run capacitors and start capacitors. Suitable hard start capacitors are described in prior art U.S. Patent No. 10,163,571, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Fig.52 An exemplary hard-start capacitor 2700 that can be used with the mounts described herein is shown. The hard-start capacitor 2700 includes a cylindrical capacitor container 2702 and a cylindrical cap 2704 that fits over and extends from the container 2702. Fig.53 , the cap 2704 can be removed from the container 2702 to expose the container cover 2706, electronic relay 2708 and wire member 2710 to provide the desired electrical connection from the hard start capacitor replacement unit 2700 to the motor 2760.
[0239] The container 2702 is preferably two and one-half inches in diameter and five and three-quarters inches in length and has a plurality of capacitors therein; however, other dimensions may be employed. In the illustrated embodiment, four capacitors 2712, 2714, 2716, and 2718 are disposed within the container 2702. Also in the illustrated embodiment, the capacitors 2712, 2714, 2716, and 2718 are wound in a cylindrical capacitive element 2720 having a common element terminal 2722 at its bottom and four capacitor terminals 2724, 2726, 2728, and 2730 at its top.
[0240] The capacitor of the capacitive element 2720 is preferably a metallized film capacitor wound together concentrically as a cylindrical capacitive element 2720. The film is preferably polypropylene metallized with zinc, and the thickness can be, for example, in the range of approximately 2 microns to 4 microns. This is an advantageous film for several reasons. First, the starting capacitor generally requires a higher capacitance value than the running capacitor, that is, the typical capacitance value of the running capacitor is generally in the range of about 15 microfarads to about 65 microfarads, while the typical capacitance value of the starting capacitor can be up to about 300 microfarads. Such high starting capacitance values have generally been achieved with electrolytic capacitors, because a 300 microfarad capacitor with a typical film thickness would be bulky and require a large container that may not be suitable for the space provided in an air conditioning unit, etc. However, in the case of recognizing that the starting capacitor is utilized for about one second or less when the motor is started, it is not necessary to rate it to a high voltage for a long time. Therefore, a thin film can be used, and the required capacitance is obtained in a reasonably sized capacitive element. Another advantage is that the resulting metallized film capacitive element has a stable capacitance value in a relatively wide range of ambient temperatures and also has a long service life.
[0241] The container is preferably filled with dielectric fluid 2732, and the cover 2706 is provided with circuit interruption protection in the case of capacitor element failure, as described in U.S. Patent No. 7,203,053. These are also advantageous in the capacitors 2712, 2714, 2716 and 2718 of the hard start capacitor 2700 manufactured by metallized film. In some embodiments, the container is at least partially filled with epoxy resin or resin (e.g., urethane, polyurethane, acrylic acid, cyanoacrylate, etc.) or material combination, for example, solidified. For example, the container can be filled half with epoxy resin, resin or material combination. In another example, the container can be completely filled with epoxy resin, resin or material combination. In some embodiments, circuit interruption protection can be provided in the form of segmented film, for example, in the whole container. For example, in the case of capacitor failure, the circuit divided by segmented film can provide interruption protection for individual segments of the circuit (e.g., by disconnecting individual segments of the circuit via segmented film). In some embodiments, when the dielectric film in the circuit segment fails, the capacitor failure causes the capacitance to decrease. This occurs when very small links between segmented circuits are separated because high currents generated by, for example, capacitor or motor malfunctions pass through the dielectric film, thereby destroying the segmented circuit (e.g., creating an open circuit), which can prevent the damage from spreading to the entire circuit. The film can have a thickness of, for example, between about 4.0 μm and 4.8 μm, a thickness of between about 6.8 μm and 5.8 μm, or a thickness of between about 1.0 μm and 25 μm.
[0242] Although it is preferred to provide a capacitor in a cylindrical capacitor element 30 wound by a metallized film, capacitors 2712, 2714, 2716, 2718 can be individual winding capacitors whose respective ends are electrically connected to form a common terminal. The individual winding capacitors can be connected in a variety of ways to provide the desired capacitance. For example, in several embodiments, individual winding capacitors can be connected in series to provide the desired capacitance. In other embodiments, individual winding capacitors can be connected in parallel to provide the desired capacitance. In some embodiments, individual winding capacitors can be connected to each other in a mixed manner of series and parallel (for example, some winding capacitors can be connected in series, and some can be connected in parallel). Optionally, capacitor element 2720 can be provided with more than or less than four capacitors. Capacitors can also be provided as two or more capacitor elements, each capacitor element having a plurality of capacitors.
[0243] It is also prudent to manufacture a hard start capacitor replacement unit with a single multi-value electrolytic capacitor or multiple electrolytic capacitors that can be connected to provide a selectable total capacitance value. However, according to the electrolytic capacitor technology of the present invention, the container for such one or more capacitors is necessarily larger than the container for the metallized film capacitive element, and the capacitance value will not be as stable over the ambient temperature range.
[0244] In the hard start capacitor replacement unit 2700 shown and described herein, the capacitors can have a range of values. For example, capacitor 2712 has a terminal 2724 and can have a range of values (e.g., a capacitance of 48 microfarads, 44 microfarads, 42 microfarads, etc.). Capacitor 2714 has a terminal 2726 and can also have a range of values (e.g., a capacitance of 48 microfarads, 44 microfarads, 42 microfarads, etc.). Capacitor 2716 has a capacitor terminal 2728 and can have a range of values (e.g., a capacitance of 88 microfarads, 84 microfarads, 82 microfarads, etc.), and capacitor 2718 has a capacitor terminal 2730 and can have a range of values (e.g., a capacitance of 114 microfarads, 112 microfarads, 110 microfarads, etc.).
[0245] Maybe as in Figure 56 to Figure 59As best seen in FIG. 2 , cap 2706 mounts common cap terminal 2734 at its center and mounts capacitance value terminals 2736, 2738, 2740, and 2742 spaced apart from common cap terminal 2734 and from each other. Common cap terminal 2734 is connected to common element terminal 2722 of capacitive element 2720 and thereby to each of capacitors 2736, 2738, 2740, and 2742. Capacitance value cap terminal 2736 is connected to terminal 2724 of capacitor 2712, and capacitance cap terminal 2738 is connected to capacitor terminal 2726 of capacitor 2714. Capacitance cap terminal 2740 is connected to capacitor terminal 2728 of capacitor 2716, and capacitance value cap terminal 2742 is connected to capacitor terminal 2730 of capacitor 2718. Therefore, the capacitance values of capacitors 2712, 2714, 2716, and 2718 can be used for wire connections at corresponding capacitance value cover terminals 2736, 2738, 2740, and 2742 on the cover 2706 of the container 2702, respectively.
[0246] A cover insulation barrier 2744 is also mounted to the cover 2706 to better isolate the cover terminals. The cover insulation barrier 2744 has a cylindrical portion 2746 surrounding the common cover terminal 2734 and has radially extending fins 2748, 2750, 2752, 2754, 2756 that separate the other capacitance value cover terminals. Additional fins are shown, which will insulate the additional one or two cover terminals if an additional one or two capacitors are provided.
[0247] refer to Fig.55, a schematic diagram of the operation of the hard start capacitor 2700 is shown. The electronic relay 2708 has external terminals that receive wire termination clips so that wire connections can be made between the common cover terminal 2734 and the capacitance cover terminals 2736, 2738, 2740 and 2742 and with the start terminal 2762 and the run terminal 2764 of the motor 2760. The external terminals T-1 and T-2 of the electronic relay 2706 are internally connected with the contacts 2770 and 2772 that can be closed by the contact strip 2774, all of which are schematically shown. The electronic relay 2708 also has an external terminal T-5, and the electronic relay 2708 has a circuit system indicated at 2776 that monitors the voltage and dv / dt between the terminals T-2 and T-5 and controls the opening and closing of the contacts 2770 and 2772 in response thereto. Terminals T-2 and T-5 are connected to the start terminal 2762 and the run terminal 2764 of the compressor motor 60 by wire 2750, so that the electronic relay monitors the voltage across the start winding and the run winding. Terminal T-5 can also be connected between the start winding and the run winding of the motor 2760. When the contacts 2770 and 2772 are closed, the electronic relay 2708 connects the selected capacitor of the capacitors 2712, 2714, 2716 and 2718 in parallel with the run capacitor 2766 across the terminals 2762 and 2764 to assist in starting the motor. When the contacts 2770, 2772 are disconnected, the bleeder resistor 2778 discharges the capacitor. Suitable electronic relays can be purchased from Zhejiang Hongli Electronic Co., part number HLR3800-6AM1D.
[0248] It should also be understood that although the capacitor of the hard start unit 2700 is shown as being connected across the motor terminals 2762, 2764, the purpose of this connection is to connect the capacitor of the start capacitor in parallel with the motor run capacitor 2766 of the motor 2760, and any connection that achieves this is suitable.
[0249] Capacitors 2712, 2714, 2716 and 2718 are also Fig.59 2708. The connections are made as shown, where a first wire 2780 connects T-1 of the electronic relay to the capacitance cap terminal 2742, which can provide a capacitance value of 112 microfarads. A jumper 2782 between the capacitance cap terminals 2742 and 2740 can provide an additional 88 microfarads of capacitance to the circuit. A wire 2788 connects the common terminal 2734 to the terminal T-5 of the electronic relay 2708. A jumper 2784 connecting the capacitance cap terminal 2738 and the capacitance cap terminal 2740 can provide another 48 microfarads to the circuit. Thus, in Fig.53 and Fig.57In the configuration shown, when the contacts of electronic relay 2708 are closed, a total capacitance of 248 microfarads is provided to start motor 2760.
[0250] It is believed that the mount and features thereof described above provide a useful and valuable advance in the art by facilitating efficient replacement and installation of capacitors. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that the foregoing description is illustrative and that various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, which is defined in the appended claims.
