Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a solid detergent cleaning composition comprising colored fabric hueing dye particles and detergent ingredients. The composition has good performance and stability characteristics, and the colored fabric hueing dye particles are not prone to bleeding. Background Art
[0002] Laundry detergent manufacturers need to provide products with good performance and good stability characteristics. Manufacturers usually incorporate a variety of chemicals to provide good performance characteristics. Where possible, these chemicals are usually formulated into basic particles (such as spray-dried particles) or agglomerates together with a significant amount of ingredients (such as detersive surfactants). However, some chemicals are formulated into their own special particles. This is usually because these chemicals are not formulated into each manufacturer's product in the manufacturer's product. By having independent particles of these chemicals, manufacturers are more likely to start with the same "basic" detergent particles across their product portfolio in logistics, and then only add these independent particles to the required products. This particle architecture is a way to optimize the logistics of a variety of laundry powder products that manufacture shared production facilities. A chemical substance that is not always incorporated across the entire product portfolio is a hueing dye.
[0003] Hueing dyes provide good whitening performance for washing powder. They are usually formulated in the form of their own special particles. Sometimes, these particles are intentionally designed to be white and are "invisible" to consumers when combined with "basic" detergent particles that are usually white. Alternatively, these particles can be colored and provide aesthetic benefits and good whitening performance for washing powder. However, these colored particles have the problem of bleeding, where some of the dyes in the dye "bleed" into the rest of the laundry detergent powder.
[0004] The present invention seeks to provide a laundry detergent powder with dedicated hueing dye particles. The hueing dye particles are colored and provide aesthetic benefits as well as providing whiteness performance benefits. The hueing dye particles are less prone to bleed and the laundry detergent powder has good stability characteristics.
[0005] The present inventors have found that formulating the particle with a hueing dye and a water soluble inorganic salt and increasing the encapsulation density of the particle enables higher levels of fabric hueing dye agent to be incorporated into the particle whilst also improving the stability characteristics of the particle as the high density particle is less susceptible to bleed. Summary of the invention

[0134] A method for preparing a solid detergent cleaning composition. The method comprises the following steps:
[0135] (a) providing a water-soluble inorganic salt;
[0136] (b) providing a fabric hueing dye agent;
[0137] (c) mixing a water-soluble inorganic salt with a fabric hueing dye agent to form a mixture;
[0138] (d) subjecting the mixture obtained in step (c) to roller compaction to form a roller compacted sheet;
[0139] (e) breaking up the roller compacted sheet to form primary particles;
[0140] (f) subjecting the initial particles to screening and collecting steps to obtain colored fabric hueing dye agent particles; and
[0141] (g) contacting the colored fabric hueing dye agent particles with detergent base particles to form a solid detergent cleaning composition.
[0142] Step (a), providing a water-soluble inorganic salt. Step (a) providing a water-soluble inorganic salt.
[0143] Step (b), providing a fabric hueing dye agent. Step (b) provides a fabric hueing dye agent.
[0144] Step (c), forming a mixture. Step (c) mixes a water-soluble inorganic salt with a fabric hueing dye to form a mixture. Generally, good mixing is required to evenly distribute the hueing dye into the inorganic salt, such as a Ribbon blender or a Nauto blender blender is preferred.
[0145] Step (d) forms a sheet compacted by rollers. Step (d) subjects the mixture obtained in step (c) to roller compaction to form a sheet compacted by rollers. Typically, the mixture is passed through two counter-rotating rollers, wherein the flow is induced by the friction acting on the roller surface. Typically, the mixture is subjected to pressure in the narrow gap between the rollers, thereby causing the formation of a compacted object in the form of a continuous strip. The roller compactor can be a Hosokawa Bepex roller compactor, which is widely available and is applied to manufacture free-flowing agglomerates. Typically, the operation of the roller compactor will involve limiting the correct center line for roller speed, roller gap, hydraulic pressure and recirculation flow to achieve desired sheet quality. Typically, high hydraulic pressure is required to achieve optimal particle encapsulation density.
[0146] Preferably, during step (d), the mixture obtained in step (c) is subjected to at least 1.8×10 7 Pa, or even at least 1.9×10 7 Pa pressure, preferably, the mixture obtained in step (c) is subjected to 1.8×10 7 Pa to 2.2×10 7 Pa, or 1.85×10 7 Pa to 2.1×10 7 Pa, or even 1.9×10 7 Pa to 2.0×10 7 Pa's pressure.
[0147] Step (e), forming primary particles. Step (e) is to break up the roller compacted sheet to form primary particles. Typically, the roller compacted sheet is passed through a grinding operation, typically involving a grinder containing a cutter and a mesh of the desired size inside, and as the roller compacted sheet is forced through the cutter and out of the mesh, its size is reduced as it forms primary particles.
[0148] Step (f) to obtain colored fabric hueing dye particles. Step (f) subjects the initial particles to screening and collection steps to obtain colored fabric hueing dye particles. The recycle stream at this stage typically involves recycling the screens to the grinder and recycling the fines back to the roller compactor.

[0153] Use of colored fabric hueing dye particles in a solid laundry detergent for reducing the bleed of fabric hueing dyes. The present invention provides a use of colored fabric hueing dye particles in a solid laundry detergent for reducing the bleed of fabric hueing dyes.
[0154] The colored fabric hueing dye particles comprise:
[0155] (a) 6.0 wt % to 10 wt % of a fabric hueing dye agent; and
[0156] (b) a water-soluble inorganic salt,
[0157] wherein the colored fabric hueing dye agent particles have an encapsulation density of at least 1.9 g / cm3 as measured by the Geopyc method.
[0158] Method for measuring encapsulation density Geopyc method. Encapsulation density is measured by the Geopyc method. Encapsulation density generally means the ratio of the mass of a particle to the encapsulation volume of the particle, where the encapsulation volume includes the volume of its pores and cavities, and is therefore the sum of the volume of the solids in each block and the voids within each block (i.e., within a close-fitting imaginary enclosure that completely surrounds each block).
[0159] The Geopyc Pycnometer is widely used for encapsulation density measurements, which utilize a solid dispersed material (rigid spheres with a high degree of fluidity) that encapsulates a representative sample but does not penetrate into the particle pore space.
[0160] The method used to measure the encapsulation density is as follows and should be followed in the manual for the specific equipment, e.g.:
[0161] Four digital balances were used to measure and record the sample weight. The piston and chamber were removed from the Geopyc by unscrewing each part counterclockwise from the mounting; inside the dust cover, 10 cm3 of Dryflo were filled into the test chamber. The piston was slowly lowered into the chamber to ensure that the Dryflo was not lost. An idling run was performed with Dryflo used only for idling, using 3 cycles, a conversion factor of 0.5153 cm3 / mm (for a 25.4 mm chamber diameter), and a consolidation force of 51 N. The sample was loaded, mixed thoroughly with the DryFlo, and the run was repeated. The average and standard deviation of the resulting 3 cycles were noted.
