Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a herbicidal combination, which comprises L-phosphinothricin, its salts, esters or combinations thereof, and at least one other herbicide. The present invention also relates to a herbicidal composition, which comprises L-phosphinothricin, its salts, esters or combinations thereof, and at least one other herbicide; and a method for controlling weeds using the same. Background Art

[0002] Herbicides are pesticides that can be used to kill or control unwanted plants. Generally, there are two types of herbicides - selective and non-selective herbicides. Selective herbicides kill certain target weeds while leaving the desired crop relatively unharmed, while non-selective herbicides kill both weeds and crops. Profitable crop production depends on effective weed control. Weeds can reduce crop yields by competing with water, sunlight, and nutrients. In today's crop production systems, starting with a good burndown program is a must because it helps achieve maximum initial crop growth and reduce weed interference in the early stages of the crop cycle. Since weed-crop competition is critical in the early stages of the crop cycle, weed interference in the early stages has a direct impact on the yield of the crop.

[0003] Effective weed control can be achieved by properly using herbicides. The activity of herbicides can be enhanced in various ways to obtain the greatest benefit. One of the ways is to use a combination of herbicides. However, determining the appropriate combination, their agrochemical application rate and the ratio of the combination is necessary to achieve effective control. In addition, selecting a specific formulation type is more troublesome for agrochemical combinations. Therefore, herbicides play an important role in weed control in the process of maximizing crop yield. In addition, applying a combination of herbicidal compounds can enhance weed control efficacy.

[0004] Many agrochemicals have chiral structures. For example, about 30% of currently registered pesticide active ingredients contain one or more chiral structures. Some chiral herbicides are sold in the form of purified optically active isomers, but many other chiral herbicides are still used in the form of racemates for economic reasons. Different enantiomers of chiral herbicides can have different enantioselective activities on target weeds and different toxic effects on non-target organisms due to their enantioselective interactions with enzymes and biological receptors in organisms, but the herbicidal selectivity of specific isomers is unpredictable. Although the enantiomers of chiral substances have the same physicochemical properties, their biochemical activities may be different because biochemical processes often show high stereo or enantioselectivity. The "active" enantiomer of a chiral chemical substance may have a desired effect on the target substance, while the other enantiomer may not have an effect on the target substance. It is recommended to use only biologically active enantiomers, thereby reducing the total amount of chemical pollutants released into the environment.

[0005] Glufosinate (also known as phosphinothricin; DL-homoalanin-4-yl(methyl)phosphinic acid) is a racemic phosphinic acid amino acid. Its ammonium salt (glufosinate-ammonium) is widely used as a non-selective herbicide and is the active ingredient of many commercial herbicide formulations. Glufosinate is a contact herbicide and is absorbed by plants primarily through the leaves. It is presumed that there is no uptake from the soil through the roots, as glufosinate is rapidly degraded by soil microorganisms. Glufosinate also has limited translocation in plants. Glufosinate has a broad spectrum of activity covering both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous species. However, due to its limited systemic action, it has no persistent effect on perennial weeds. Hoechst et al. reported in 1991 the examples of weed species that were not controlled by glufosinate or were only weakly controlled by glufosinate, such as field violet (Viola arvensis), brome (Bromus spp.), ryegrass (Lolium spp.), creeping ice grass (Agropyron repens) and small nettle (Urticaurens). In addition, the weeds that appeared after the herbicide was applied were not affected. In addition, L-glufosinate has herbicidal activity, which is about four times that of glyphosate, about twice that of paraquat, and greater than about twice that of racemic glufosinate (DL-glufosinate).

[0006] Therefore, due to the limitations of the individual efficacy of existing herbicides in terms of activity and target, there is a potential need for effective herbicidal combinations that overcome the previously known disadvantages of individual active ingredients. There remains a great need for improved broadleaf and grass weed control herbicidal compositions and methods for controlling such harmful plants both pre- and post-emergence without adversely affecting the desired plants and reducing the amount of chemical herbicides necessary to obtain acceptable weed control.

[0034] Effective weed control can be achieved through the proper use of herbicides. The activity of herbicides can be enhanced in various ways to achieve maximum benefits. One of the methods is to use herbicides in combinations of different herbicides. However, determining the appropriate combination, their agrochemical application rates and the ratio of the combination is necessary to achieve effective control, which is not straightforward.

[0035] Thus, the present invention provides a method for partially or completely controlling noxious weeds using a combination of two or more herbicides.

[0036] According to the inventors of the present invention, they have discovered the unexpected advantages of combining L-glufosinate with at least one cyclohexanedione oxime herbicide in pursuit of an effective and synergistic solution for weed control.

[0257] These combinations can be applied to the locus of weeds or plants / crops in herbicidally effective amounts. From the following use examples, it can be seen that the herbicidal effect of the active compound combination of the present invention exceeds the calculated value, that is, the new active compound combination has a synergistic effect in controlling weeds.

[0258] The expected efficacy of combinations of L-glufosinate ammonium and other herbicides was calculated using the well-established Colby method. Any difference between the observed efficacy and the "expected" efficacy can be attributed to a synergistic effect between the two compounds.

[0259] In the Colby method, the expected (or predicted) response of a herbicide combination is calculated by dividing the product of the observed responses of each component in the combination when applied alone by 100, and then subtracting that value from the sum of the observed responses of each component when applied alone. The unexpected enhancement of the efficacy of the combination can then be determined by comparing the observed response of the combination with the expected (or predicted) response calculated from the observed responses of each individual component. If the observed response of the combination is greater than the expected (or predicted) response, or conversely, if the difference between the observed response and the expected response is greater than zero, the combination is said to be synergistic or unexpectedly effective (Colby, SR, Weeds, 1967 (15), p. 20-22). The Colby method requires only the application of one dose of each herbicide alone and a mixture of two doses. The formula for calculating the expected efficacy (EE) is explained below, which is compared to the observed efficacy (OE) to determine the efficacy of the present disclosure:

[0260] The expected effects of the combination of the two active ingredients are as follows:

[0261] EE = (A + B - (A x B) / 100)

[0262] The expected effects of the combination of three active ingredients are as follows:

[0263] EE=A+B+C–(AB+AC+BC) / 100+ABC / 10,000

[0264] in,

[0265] A = the observed efficacy of active ingredient A at the same concentration used in the mixture.

[0266] B = the observed efficacy of active ingredient B at the same concentration used in the mixture.

[0267] C = the observed efficacy of active ingredient C at the same concentration as used in the mixture.

[0268] The results of the synergistic effects of the combinations / compositions of the present invention are given in the examples. As used herein, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, all numerical values or numerical ranges include integers within such ranges and fractions of values or integers within the range.
