[0005] Patent Document 1: Japanese Patent No. 5501143 Summary of the invention
[0006] In a connector such as Patent Document 1, an assembly sequence is adopted in which the terminal is arranged from the lower opening side of the housing to the inner side of the housing, and the lower opening becomes a larger opening area. In addition, the connector of Patent Document 1 is not a waterproof structure. If it is desired to seal the lower opening of the housing of the connector and transform it into a waterproof structure, the sealing structure based on potting will cause problems. For example, it is necessary to set a cover component at the lower opening of the housing in a way that a potting liquid such as a resin does not flow into the terminal arrangement part, and to create a space for the potting liquid to be filled, but the addition of the cover component will become the main reason for the large size of the connector.
[0007] One example of an object of the present invention is to provide a technology that enables miniaturization of a connector that is intended to have improved waterproof properties. Other objects of the present invention will become apparent from the description of this specification.
[0008] One embodiment of the present invention is a connector, comprising:
[0009] Housing; and
[0010] The terminal is received in the housing and a portion of the terminal extends outside the housing.
[0011] The housing comprises: a first housing portion having a terminal through hole through which a part of the terminal passes; and a second housing portion fixed to the first housing portion.
[0012] The terminal is accommodated in an accommodation space with a portion of the terminal passing through the terminal through hole, and the accommodation space is formed by the first housing portion and the second housing portion by fixing the second housing portion to the first housing portion.
[0013] According to the above aspect of the present invention, it is possible to provide a technology that enables miniaturization of a connector for which improved waterproofness is desired. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0035] Reference Figures 1 to 11 A first embodiment of a connector according to the present invention will be described. A connector 1 shown in this embodiment is used for electrical connection. Figure 1 The front-back, top-bottom, left-right directions in the connector 1 are defined as being orthogonal to each other. The front-back and left-right directions are related to the substrate 100 ( Figure 5 ) is parallel to the substrate 100. The up-down direction is a direction perpendicular to the substrate 100. The left-right direction is an arrangement direction of the terminals 30 when there are a plurality of terminals 30.
[0036] like Figure 7 As shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 , the connector 1 comprises: an insulating housing 10; a conductive terminal 30 received and held in the housing 10; and a sealing material 70 for liquid-tightly sealing a portion where the terminal 30 is led out of the housing 10. Figures 1 to 6 As shown, there are eight terminals 30, but the number of terminals is not limited to eight.
[0037] according to Figure 3 as well as Figure 4 As can be seen from the exploded perspective view of the embodiment, the housing 10 is a combined structure of the first housing portion 11 on the base side and the second housing portion 20 on the cover side fixed thereto, both of which are, for example, resin molded bodies. The reason for dividing the housing 10 into two parts is to enable the terminal 30 to be arranged on the first housing portion 11 from above before the second housing portion 20 is assembled, thereby allowing the first housing portion 11 to be connected to the substrate 100 ( Figure 5 ) The bottom surface side opposite to the first housing portion 11 does not have a large opening for arranging the terminal 30. Figure 1 as well as Figure 2 In the state, a connection opening 12 is formed in which a connection object side contact (such as a metal plate plug) can be inserted and connected to the terminal 30. The connection opening 12 is arranged across the front surface and the upper surface of the housing 10 and arranged in the left-right direction.
[0038] like Figure 3 , Figure 7 as well as Figure 8As shown, the first housing portion 11 has a connection cutout portion 12a that becomes a part of the connection opening portion 12 corresponding to each terminal 30, a terminal configuration recess 13, a terminal through hole 14, and a potting recess 15. The connection cutout portion 12a in the up-down direction and the connection cutout portion 12b in the front-back direction of the second housing portion 20 are continuous with each other, forming the connection opening portion 12.
[0039] like Figure 7 As shown, the terminal through hole 14 penetrates from the bottom surface of the terminal configuration recess 13 toward the potting recess 15 in the vertical direction, and is preferably a small opening that can be pressed and penetrated by the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30. The terminal configuration recess 13 opens on the upper side of the first housing portion 11, and becomes a large opening that can insert (press in) and configure the terminal 30 from the upper side. In the terminal configuration recess 13, a terminal holding groove 16 is formed in the vertical direction to position and hold the terminal 30 by pressing the terminal 30. The terminal holding groove 16 is provided on the left and right side walls in a manner along the side wall surface on the back side of the terminal configuration recess 13. The potting recess 15 for setting (filling) the sealing material 70 is opened with a small area on the lower side of the first housing portion 11, that is, the bottom surface. The potting recess 15 further has a step 15a around the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30, and the depth in the vertical direction for filling the sealing material 70 around the pin portion 31 has a deeper depth. In this embodiment, the bottom area (or opening area) of the potting recess 15 is sufficiently smaller than the opening area of the terminal arrangement recess 13. However, the bottom area of the potting recess 15 may be equal to or larger than the opening area of the terminal arrangement recess 13.
[0040] like Figure 2 as well as Figure 4 As shown, the shape of the potting recess 15 of the present embodiment is a rounded quadrilateral when viewed from above. However, the shape of the potting recess 15 is not limited, and may be a polygon, quadrilateral, circular, elliptical, oblong, etc. In addition, it may be an inclined shape when viewed from the side. The shape of the step 15a of the bottom surface of the potting recess 15 is also not limited. Moreover, the step 15a is not limited to one layer, and may be multiple layers, and the periphery of the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30 may be convex or may be formed in an inclined shape.
[0041] The first housing 11 has a flange 17 on the bottom surface side, and the mounting member 80 is held by the flange 17. The mounting member 80 is, for example, a metal member, and is connected to the substrate 100 (which is the mounting object of the connector 1) by soldering or the like. Figure 5) is connected to fix the connector 1 to the substrate 100. In addition, when the connector 1 is installed in a housing (not shown), an elastic member (not shown) such as a rubber sheet for ensuring waterproofness is sandwiched between the upper surface of the flange 17 and the housing. In addition, the first housing 11 may also be a structure without the flange 17.
[0042] like Figure 3 As shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 , in order to attach the second housing portion 20 to the first housing portion 11, engaging protrusions 18a are formed on both left and right side surfaces of the first housing portion 11. In addition, a cylindrical engaging protrusion 18b is formed on the upper end surface.
[0043] like Figure 1 , Figure 3 , Figure 4 , Figure 8 As shown in the figures, the second shell portion 20 has a connection notch 12b which is a part of the connection opening 12 on the upper surface, and has tongue-shaped mounting portions 21 at both ends in the left-right direction. The tongue-shaped mounting portion 21 has a snap-fitting hole 22. In addition, the second shell portion 20 has a snap-fitting recess 25 on the opposite surface facing the first shell portion 11. When the second shell portion 20 is assembled to the first shell portion 11, the snap-fitting hole 22 of the tongue-shaped mounting portion 21 is engaged with the snap-fitting protrusion 18a located at the two end surfaces in the left-right direction of the first shell portion 11, and the snap-fitting recess 25 is engaged with the cylindrical snap-fitting protrusion 18b on the upper end surface of the first shell portion 11. As shown in the figures, Figure 7 As shown, recessed portions 23 and 24 for preventing the terminals 30 from contacting are formed on the lower surface of the second housing portion 20 , that is, on the surface facing the first housing portion 11 .
[0044] like Figure 3 , Figure 4 , Figure 7 , Figure 8 As shown in the figure, the terminal 30 is made of a metal material such as beryllium copper and titanium copper, and is a sheet metal component formed by press working of a plate-shaped metal. The terminal 30 can also be formed by a formed body and cutting. In addition, there is also a case where the terminal 30 is subjected to surface plating. In this embodiment, the terminal 30 integrally includes a pin portion 31, a positioning portion 32, a positioning bifurcated portion 33, a leaf spring portion 37, and a contact portion 38.
[0045] The pin portion 31 is connected to the substrate 100 ( Figure 5) is a connecting portion (mounting portion) electrically connected to a conductive pattern not shown on the first housing portion 11. The pin portion 31 of the present embodiment is plate-shaped and extends in the up-down direction, penetrates the sealing material 70 and extends to the bottom of the first housing portion 11. The positioning portion 32 is connected to the upper portion of the pin portion 31 via a bent portion, and is close to, preferably abuts, the side wall surface of the terminal configuration recess 13 of the first housing portion 11 (the opposite side of the connection opening 12), and the positioning bifurcation portion 33 is retained in the terminal retaining groove 16 in a pressed-in state, thereby positioning the terminal 30 in the front-to-back direction. The positioning bifurcation portion 33 bifurcates from the positioning portion 32 to both sides in the left-right direction, as shown in FIG. Figure 7 In this way, the front end face 33a of the positioning branch portion 33 is exposed on the upper end face 11a (the end face of the terminal configuration recess 13) side of the first shell portion 11 opposite to the second shell portion 20. In addition, the front end face 33a of the positioning branch portion 33 is aligned with the upper end face 11a of the first shell portion 11 or is set at a specified height position relative to the upper end face 11a. When assembling, the height position of the front end face 33a of the positioning branch portion 33 is aligned by a jig or the like, thereby enabling the height position of each terminal 30 in the vertical direction relative to the first shell portion 11 to be aligned. In addition, the pin portion 31 is located on the front side compared to the positioning portion 32 via the bent portion, and the pin portion 31 is led out from a central position of the potting recess 15.
[0046] The leaf spring portion 37 is substantially inverted U-shaped when viewed from the side, and is connected to the upper portion of the positioning portion 32. The leaf spring portion 37 functions to give the contact portion 38 appropriate flexibility. The contact portion 38 is supported by the leaf spring portion 37 and faces the outside of the housing 10 from the connection opening 12. The contact portion 38 is divided into two parts along the left and right sides, and when a connection object side contact (not shown) is inserted between the two sides, the contact is clamped and electrically connected.
[0047] The sealing material 70 is, for example, a polyurethane resin or an epoxy resin, and is filled in the potting recess 15 in a manner that the opening of the terminal through hole 14 is blocked, and the gap between the terminal through hole 14 of the first shell part 11 and the pin part 31 of the terminal 30 is blocked and sealed liquid-tightly. The potting recess 15 has a step 15a around the pin part 31 of the terminal 30, thereby increasing the bonding area between the sealing material 70 and the pin part 31 and between the sealing material 70 and the inner surface of the potting recess 15. In addition, when the terminal 30 is mounted on the substrate, the shell 10 may be deformed, for example, due to the heat generated by soldering. If the terminal peripheral part of the potting recess 15 is small, the influence caused by the deformation of the shell 10 will be reduced, so the bottom part of the potting recess 15 around the terminal 30 is narrowed. In addition, for example, when the gap between the terminal through hole 14 of the first shell part 11 and the pin part 31 of the terminal 30 can be ignored, it is also possible not to use the sealing material.
[0048] Figures 9 to 11 The assembly sequence of connector 1 is described in FIG. First, Fig. 9 As shown, the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30 is inserted (pressed) into the terminal through hole 14 located at the bottom surface of the terminal configuration recess 13 of the first housing portion 11, and the two side edges of the positioning bifurcation portion 33 are inserted (pressed) into the terminal retaining groove 16, and the terminal 30 is configured in the terminal configuration recess 13. At this time, the height of the front end surface 33a of the positioning bifurcation portion 33 is aligned with the height of the end surface 11a of the first housing portion 11 by a jig or the like, so that the height position of each terminal 30 is aligned. Then, as shown in FIG. Fig.10 As shown, the second housing portion 20 is assembled to the first housing portion 11. Figure 1 , Figure 8 As shown in FIG. 1 , the engagement hole 22 formed in the tongue-shaped fitting portion 21 of the second housing portion 20 is engaged with the engagement protrusion 18a of the first housing portion 11, and the engagement recess 25 of the second housing portion 20 is engaged (pressed) with the cylindrical engagement protrusion 18b of the first housing portion 11. Thus, the first housing portion 11 and the second housing portion 20 are integrated to form the housing 10. Then, as shown in FIG. Fig.11 As shown, the housing 10 is inverted so that the potting recess 15 on the bottom side of the first housing portion 11 faces upward, and a potting process is performed. That is, the potting recess 15 is filled with a potting liquid, that is, a sealing material 70 before curing. At this time, the sealing material 70 has a moderate viscosity, so that it will not penetrate into the inner side of the terminal configuration recess 13. In addition, the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30 led out from the terminal through hole 14 to the outside of the housing is located at a position away from all side wall surfaces of the potting recess 15, so that the entire periphery of the pin portion 31 is surrounded by the sealing material 70 without a gap. Then, a curing process of the sealing material 70 is performed. The curing process method includes thermal curing and curing based on two-liquid mixing.
[0049] According to the first embodiment, the following effects can be achieved.
[0050] (1) The housing 10 is a combination of a first housing portion 11 having a terminal through hole 14 and a second housing portion 20 fixed to the first housing portion 11, and the first housing portion 11 has an opening on the side opposite to the second housing portion 20 through which the terminal 30 can be arranged from above. Therefore, the necessity of providing a large opening for arranging the terminal 30 in the housing 10 on the lead-out side of the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30 is eliminated. Therefore, a waterproof structure can be achieved by sealing the gap between the terminal through hole 14 formed in the first housing portion 11 and the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30 liquid-tightly with a sealing material 70. For example, in order to make the connector of patent document 1 have a waterproof function, it is necessary to add an additional component for forming a potting space for the sealing material, and accordingly, the height of the connector will increase, but the present embodiment does not require an additional component, and can seek miniaturization, especially low profile.
[0051] (2) When the first housing portion 11 and the second housing portion 20 are combined, the housing 10 is configured to have a connection opening 12 for inserting the counterpart contact, thereby making it easy to form the connection opening 12 ranging from the front surface to the upper surface of the housing 10. In addition, the housing 10 is divided into the first housing portion 11 and the second housing portion 20, which has high versatility. For example, by changing the shape of any one of the housing portions in accordance with the counterpart contact, it is possible to cope with various shapes of counterpart contacts.
[0052] (3) The terminal through hole 14 is located on the bottom surface of the potting recess 15 filled with the sealing material 70, and the sealing material 70 is arranged around the entire circumference of the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30. Therefore, compared with the case where the pin portion 31 is led out along the wall surface of the potting recess 15, the liquid-tight sealing effect is more reliable.
[0053] (4) By setting the bottom surface area (or opening area) of the potting recess 15 filled with the sealing material 70 smaller than the opening area of the terminal placement recess 13 where the terminal 30 can be placed, the sealing material 70 can be saved to an appropriate amount.
[0054] (5) In the potting recess 15 filled with the sealing material 70, a step 15a (or an inclined recess, etc.) is formed around the protruding pin portion 31 of the terminal 30. Due to the step 15a, the depth of the sealing material 70 filled around the pin portion 31 is deeper than other parts, and the potting recess 15 around the pin portion 31 becomes smaller. If the portion around the pin portion 31 of the potting recess 15 is small, the influence of the sealing material 70 when the housing 10 is deformed is reduced. Therefore, by forming the step 15a, even if the housing is deformed due to the heat of soldering, etc., the influence on the sealing material 70 can be reduced, which helps to improve the liquid-tight effect.
[0055] (6) The potting recess 15 provided in the first housing portion 11 is opened on the side opposite to the side facing the second housing portion 20 , thereby preventing the width of the housing 10 in the front-rear direction from increasing even when compared with a connector not designed for waterproofing.
[0056] (7) The terminal 30 has a positioning branch portion 33, and the front end face 33a of the positioning branch portion 33 is formed into a plane with the upper end face 11a of the first shell portion 11 opposite to the second shell portion 20 or is set at a specified height position relative to the upper end face 11a, thereby allowing the terminal 30 to be positioned in the height direction without contacting the leaf spring portion 37 of the terminal 30.
[0057] (8) The housing 10 has a structure in which the first housing portion 11 and the second housing portion 20 are fitted and integrated with each other, and both can be combined without displacement, so that the housing 10 can be easily assembled.
[0058] Reference Figures 12 to 21 The second embodiment of the connector of the present invention is described. In the connector 1 of the first embodiment described above, a potting recess 15 is arranged on the side opposite to the substrate 100 of the bottom surface of the housing, so that the housing needs to be turned upside down when potting is required. The connector 1A of the second embodiment shows a structure that allows potting without turning the housing 10A upside down.
[0059] like Fig.14 , Fig.17 As shown in the figures, the housing 10A of the connector 1A is a combined structure of the first housing portion 11A on the base side and the second housing portion 20A on the cover side fixed thereto. The difference from the first embodiment is that in the first housing portion 11A of the second embodiment, the terminal configuration recess 13A and the potting recess 15A are adjacently arranged, and both are open to the upper side. The terminal through hole 14 is located on the bottom surface of the potting recess 15A. In addition, a small recess 19 having the terminal through hole 14 is formed on the bottom surface of the first housing portion 11A.
[0060] The terminal 30A has the same points as the first embodiment in that it has a pin portion 31, a positioning portion 32, a positioning fork portion 33, a leaf spring portion 37, and a contact portion 38. In the second embodiment, the positioning portion 32 is close to, preferably abuts against, the side wall surface of the potting recess 15A, and the positional relationship between the pin portion 31 and the positioning portion 32 connected thereto via a bent portion is changed from that of the terminal 30 of the first embodiment. In addition, as Fig.17 As shown, the terminal holding groove 16 for holding the positioning branch portion 33 of the terminal 30A in a pressed state is formed on the left and right side walls along the side wall surface adjacent to the terminal placement recess 13A of the potting recess 15A.
[0061] The other structures of the connector 1A are the same as those of the first embodiment described above.
[0062] Figures 19 to 21 The assembly sequence of the connector 1A is described in FIG. Fig.19 As shown, the pin portion 31 of the terminal 30A is inserted (pressed) into the terminal through hole 14 located on the bottom surface of the potting recess 15A of the first shell portion 11A, and the two side edge edges of the positioning bifurcation portion 33 are inserted (pressed) into the terminal retaining groove 16, and the leaf spring portion 37 and the contact portion 38 of the terminal 30A are arranged in the terminal configuration recess 13A, and the positioning portion 32, the positioning bifurcation portion 33 and the pin portion 31 are arranged in the potting recess 15A. At this time, the height of the front end surface 33a of the positioning bifurcation portion 33 is aligned by a jig or the like, thereby aligning the height positions of the terminals 30A. Then, as shown in FIG. Fig. 20As shown in FIG. 1 , the potting concave portion 15A is filled with a potting liquid, that is, a sealing material 70 before curing. At this time, the sealing material 70 has a moderate viscosity, so that it does not leak to the bottom side of the housing 10A. The pin portion 31 of the terminal 30A is located at a position away from all side wall surfaces of the potting concave portion 15A, so that the entire periphery of the pin portion 31 is surrounded by the sealing material 70 without a gap. Then, as shown in FIG. Fig.21 As shown in FIG. 1 , the second housing portion 20A is assembled to the first housing portion 11A. Fig.14 As shown in the figures, the engaging hole 22 formed in the tongue-shaped assembly portion 21 of the second shell portion 20A is engaged with the engaging protrusion 18a of the first shell portion 11A, and the engaging recess 25 of the second shell portion 20A is engaged with the cylindrical engaging protrusion 18b of the first shell portion 11A, thereby integrating the first shell portion 11A and the second shell portion 20A.
[0063] According to the second embodiment, the potting recess 15A of the first housing portion 11A filled with the sealing material 70 is opened to the side opposite to the second housing portion 20A, that is, to the same side as the terminal arrangement recess 13A, thereby enabling the insertion and arrangement of the terminal 30A into the first housing portion 11A and the potting process of the sealing material 70 into the potting recess 15A to be performed from above the first housing portion 11A. That is, it is not necessary to turn the first housing portion 11A upside down during the potting process, which is advantageous for seeking efficiency of the manufacturing process.
[0064] In addition, since the potting recess 15A is arranged adjacent to the terminal arrangement recess 13A in the front-rear direction, it is advantageous in achieving a low profile compared to the first embodiment in which the potting recess is provided on the bottom substrate side. The other configurations are the same as those of the first embodiment.
[0065] As mentioned above, although embodiment and modification of this invention were demonstrated referring drawings, these are examples of this invention, and various structures other than what was described above can also be adopted.
[0066] The terminal provided in the housing of the connector can be appropriately changed in accordance with the shape of the contact on the connection object side. In addition, the shape of the pin portion of the terminal connected to the substrate can also be appropriately changed. For example, the cross section can be a circular, thin plate, polygonal, etc.
[0067] The method of integrating the first shell part and the second shell part constituting the shell is not limited to the above-mentioned embodiment. For example, a concave-convex fitting shape other than the embodiment may be adopted, or the integration may be achieved by bonding and screw fastening. Concave-convex fitting and bonding may also be used in combination.
[0068] In the second embodiment, the sealing material may be potted from both the upper and lower sides of the first outer shell portion.
[0069] According to this specification, a connector in the following manner is provided.
[0070] (Method 1)
[0071] A connector, comprising:
[0072] Housing; and
[0073] The terminal is received in the housing and a portion of the terminal extends outside the housing.
[0074] The housing comprises: a first housing portion having a terminal through hole through which a part of the terminal passes; and a second housing portion fixed to the first housing portion.
[0075] The terminal is accommodated in an accommodation space with a portion of the terminal passing through the terminal through hole, and the accommodation space is formed by the first housing portion and the second housing portion by fixing the second housing portion to the first housing portion.
[0076] In the previous structure shown in Patent Document 1, when a large opening for configuring a terminal is sealed by a sealing material, in order to prevent the sealing material from leaking to the terminal side, it is necessary to seal the opening with a cover, for example. However, according to the above-mentioned method 1, other components such as a cover are not required, and miniaturization, especially low-profile, can be achieved even when waterproof.
[0077] (Method 2)
[0078] A connector, wherein
[0079] A sealing material is provided for sealing the terminal through-hole.
[0080] According to the second aspect, the terminal through-hole is sealed by the sealing material, thereby ensuring waterproofness.
[0081] (Method 3)
[0082] A connector, wherein
[0083] The first housing portion has a recessed portion filled with the sealing material, the terminal through-hole is located on a bottom surface of the recessed portion, and the sealing material is provided over the entire circumference of the terminal.
[0084] According to the third aspect, the sealing material is provided over the entire circumference of the terminal, thereby making it possible to reliably obtain a liquid-tight sealing effect compared to a case where the terminal is led out along the wall surface of the recess.
[0085] (Method 4)
[0086] A connector, wherein
[0087] The bottom surface area of the recessed portion is smaller than the opening area of the opening in which the terminal can be disposed.
[0088] According to the fourth aspect, the bottom surface area of the potting recess is smaller than the opening area of the terminal placement recess, so that the sealing material can be saved to an appropriate amount.
