Abstract
Description
[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] The following application is based on and claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application Serial No. 63546155, filed on October 27, 2023, which is currently co-pending; the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field
[0003] An insecticidal bow is provided. The insecticidal bow may take the form of an archery bow. The archery bow has a chamber that stores material, such as small granular material such as salt. The small granular material may be discharged from a barrel of the bow by air. When the bow is aimed at an insect and the small granular material is discharged, the small granular material may be used to kill the insect. Background Art
[0004] Devices for killing insects are known. For example, U.S. Patent No. 9,939,227 to Maggiore discloses an insecticide gun having a compressed gas source fluidly connected to a chamber, which is connected to a barrel. A compressed gas release mechanism is connected to the compressed gas source. A projectile storage magazine stores pellet projectiles and is located near the chamber. A projectile loading mechanism moves projectiles from the magazine into the chamber. A cocking mechanism is mechanically connected to the compressed gas source, the compressed gas release mechanism, and the projectile loading mechanism. When the gun is cocked, the projectile loading mechanism loads a certain amount of pellet projectiles into the chamber. When the compressed gas release mechanism is activated, the projectile is ejected from the chamber into the barrel and discharged from the gun. The gun optionally includes a laser aiming mechanism. The battery-operated laser aiming mechanism can be removably attached to the barrel, or permanently attached to an integral, trigger-operated switch.
[0005] In addition, Marjorie's U.S. Patent No. 9,664,475 discloses a prepackaged bug gun magazine for a gas-powered weapon, comprising a body adapted to fit within an opening in a weapon. The magazine has a first surface, a second surface, and at least one chamber. The length of the chamber extends from the first surface to the second surface. A first frangible sealing membrane is removably attached to the first surface of the body and seals the first end of the chamber. A second frangible sealing membrane is removably attached to the second surface of the body and seals the second end of the chamber. A pellet projectile is located within the chamber and is sealed in place by the sealing membrane. A guidance system aligns the chamber with the barrel of the weapon. The discharge causes the pressurized gas to break through the first diaphragm, and the impact of the pellet projectile will break through the second diaphragm, allowing the projectile to enter the barrel.
[0006] However, these patent documents fail to describe an insecticidal bow that is easy to use. In addition, these patents fail to provide an insecticidal bow that allows users to kill insects safely and quickly. Summary of the invention

[0017] An insecticidal bow is provided. The insecticidal bow may take the form of an archery bow. The archery bow has a chamber that stores a material, such as a small particle material such as salt. The small particle material may be discharged from a barrel of the bow by air. When the bow is aimed at an insect and the small particle material is discharged, the small particle material may be used to kill the insect.
[0018] In one embodiment, a bow 1 is provided. The bow 1 may have a top 2, a bottom 3, a front 4, a back 5, a first side 6, a second side (not visible in the figure), and a main riser 9. A cable 10 may connect the top 2 of the bow 1 to the bottom 3 of the bow 1. Located at the top 2 and the bottom 3 of the bow 1 may be an adjustable tensioner 11. The cable 10 may contact the tensioner 11 and may generate tension when pulled back. The bow 1 may be constructed of a material selected from plastic, metal, composite material, or other suitable lightweight and durable material.
[0019] The bow 1 may also have a barrel 20 having a front portion 21 and a rear portion 22. The barrel 20 may be generally vertical relative to the riser 9. In one embodiment, the barrel 20 may have a generally hollow interior 12. The bow 1 may have a handle portion 34 to allow a user to easily hold the bow 1. The handle portion 34 may be located on the riser 9.
[0020] A hopper 30 may be connected to the barrel 20. The hopper 30 may store small granular material (also referred to as a "propellent" or "projectile") 31, such as small granular material 31 such as salt. In one embodiment, the hopper 30 may have a top 32 and a bottom 33. The top 32 of the hopper 30 may have an opening 35 through which the small granular material 31 may be added to the hopper 30. A lid 36 (at Figure 2 30 ) may be located at the top 32 of the hopper 30 to retain the small particle material 31 within the hopper 30 .
[0021] The opening 40 is located at the bottom 33 of the hopper 30. The opening 40 at the bottom 33 of the hopper 30 can allow the small particle material 31 to enter the barrel 20 through the hopper 30. Once located in the barrel 20, the small particle material 31 can be ejected from the front 21 of the barrel 20 as described below.
[0022] In one embodiment, the barrel 20 may have a first tube 50 and a second tube 51. The second tube 51 may be located at the rear portion 22 of the barrel 20, while the first tube 50 is located at the front portion 21 of the barrel 20. The first tube 50 and the second tube 51 may be telescopically related. More specifically, the second tube 51 may move in a telescopic manner relative to the fixed first tube 50 (which is attached to the riser 9). In one embodiment, the middle portion of the cable 10 may be attached to the second tube 51. When the user pulls the cable 10 back away from the riser 9, the air pressure in the interior 12 of the barrel 20 decreases. When the cable 10 is released, the second tube 51 is quickly pushed forward by the spring tension of the cable 10 therein, thereby creating a burst of air in the interior 12 of the barrel 20. The air 20 then forces the small particle material 31 to leave the front portion 21 of the barrel 20. The further the cable 10 is pulled, the greater the force the small particle material 31 will have when leaving the bow 1.
[0023] When the small pellet material 31 leaves the barrel 20, it travels with enough force to kill the insect. Preferably, both the hopper 30 and the barrel 20 are removable from the bow 1 for repair, or can be removed from the bow 1 to allow the user to select an alternative hopper 30 and / or barrel 20 with different functions or capabilities. In an alternative embodiment, the bow 1 can have a compressed gas source that emits the small pellet material 31, as opposed to the user generating the compressed gas by pulling back and releasing the cable string 10.
[0024] In one embodiment, the hopper 30 is located at the front 21 of the barrel 20, on the side of the riser 9 opposite the cable 10. Thus, the small particle material 31 leaves the bow 1 at a greater velocity. Furthermore, the hopper 30 may be permanently fixed to the barrel 20 instead of the riser 9, so that the hopper 30 may be easily replaced.
[0025] Reference now Figure 3 and Figure 4 , shows an alternative embodiment of an insecticidal bow 1000. In this embodiment, the insecticidal bow 1000 can have a barrel 1020 having an interior 1021. The barrel body 1020 can also have a front portion 1025 and a rear portion 1035. A plunger 1050 can be located in the interior 1021 of the barrel 1020. The plunger 1050 can be telescopically extended and retracted, thereby allowing a user to pull the plunger 1050 back further away from the handle 1010 of the bow 1000. As the plunger 1050 can be pulled back further away from the handle 1010, the air pressure generated within the interior 1021 of the barrel 1020 increases, resulting in a greater discharge rate of small particle material 31. In one embodiment, the plunger 1050 has a fixing ring 1080 through which the cable 1075 passes. Therefore, the cable 1075 will never fall off the plunger 1050.
[0026] In one embodiment, a sight (or alignment hole) 1060 may be located, for example, on the riser 1010, which allows the user to properly align and aim the bow 1000. In particular, the user may align his / her eyes with the sight 1060 so as to directly see the target insect through the riser 1010. As a result, the user may easily aim the bow 1000 by looking through the sight 1060.
[0027] In one embodiment, a safety control mechanism (or "dial") 1200 may be located on the bow 1000. The safety control mechanism 1200 is preferably located at or around the hopper 1040 of the bow 1000. The safety control mechanism 1200 may be turned clockwise or counterclockwise to release the small pellet material 31 into the barrel 1020 of the bow 1000 before firing the bow 1000. More specifically, the user first turns the safety control mechanism 1200 to release the small pellet material 31, and then, in a second step, pulls back the cable 1075 attached to the plunger 1050 before firing the bow 1000. Thus, two steps are required. This additional step increases the safety of the bow 1000. In addition, the safety control mechanism 1200 may allow the user to determine a specific amount of small pellet material 31 loaded into the interior 1021 of the barrel 1020 for firing. The safety control mechanism 1200 may also be a safety mechanism to prevent accidental discharge of the small pellet material 31.
[0028] In one embodiment, first and second dials 1300 may be located on tensioner 11. Dials 1300 may allow a user to easily and safely adjust the tension of cable 1075. Thus, the user may be able to better control the speed of small particle material 31.
[0029] Although the embodiments of the present invention are shown and described herein, it should be understood that various changes and modifications to the currently preferred embodiments will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and these changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention and without reducing its attendant advantages.
