Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a respiratory protection method and a transparent respiratory protection face shield with replaceable filter. BACKGROUND

[0002] Australian published patent application No. AU2020102286 discloses a respiratory protection face shield assembly comprising a substantially pear-shaped face shield body for contact with a wearer's face, a fixed stiffener removably attached to the inner side of the face shield body, a face shield cover removably attached to the outer side of the face shield body, at least one air filter assembly for air inlet through the face shield cover, the face shield body and the fixed stiffener, and an exhalation assembly forming an air outlet through the face shield body. The face shield cover has two straps for securing to the user's head to maintain stability of the entire face shield assembly.

[0003] Spanish published patent application No. ES2 778 000 relates to a reusable respiratory protection face shield. The face shield is intended to cover the nose and lower part of the face and is secured by straps around the ears and the head. The straps are connected to two lateral circular protrusions of the face shield, which contain filters inside. The bottom of the face shield is also provided with a protrusion for mounting electronic devices. Although the face shield is transparent to facilitate communication and facial recognition, it is not adjustable, its entire periphery being in close contact with the user's face, thus limiting the movement of the lower jaw, otherwise the face shield would be lifted or displaced, causing a leak in the seal, severely reducing the protection effect and reliability of the face shield.

[0004] Chinese published patent application No. CN 107 929 967 and Chinese published utility model patent No. CN 208097 144 disclose a respiratory protection face shield comprising:

[0005] - a transparent face shield body whose periphery comprises an upper part, a right lateral part, a left lateral part and a lower part;

[0006] - a seal for facial contact located at the periphery of the transparent face shield body;

[0007] - at least one lateral filter assembly;

[0008] - a right and a left facial fixation element, wherein:

[0009] • the upper part of the periphery of the face shield body has a right and a left arc, which, starting from their central point, first bend downwards and then rise upwards,

[0010] • the lower part of the periphery of the face shield body is horizontal,

[0011] • the right and left lateral parts of the face shield body are vertical,

[0012] The right and left fixing parts are respectively fixed to the corner formed between the upper part and the right and left parts of the outer periphery of the mask body, and...

[0013] • The diaphragm protrudes relative to the mask body, with one end fixed to the mask body and the other end free, and...

[0014] At the upper part of the outer periphery of the mask body, the free end of the diaphragm is perpendicular to and away from the mask body.

[0015] On the mask, there are appendices to these Chinese patent documents Figure 5 and 6 The seal shown in the figure, with reference number 103, is a sealing ring with a U-shaped cross-section and the free ends bent towards each other.

[0016] The mask needs to be secured to the user's ears and then wrapped around the back of the neck, which increases discomfort. Its lower part is designed to fit snugly against the user's chin via a fixing structure 510, causing inconvenience and making it almost impossible for the user to speak. If the user does speak, jaw movement causes the chin to slide uncomfortably on the sealing ring, compromising the mask's seal. Furthermore, this mask design does not consider the wearer's communication needs, as it includes two fans located near the user's ears, which interfere with accurately hearing ambient sounds.

[0017] Invention patent No. FR 773 129 discloses a breathing mask. As described in detail in the patent and by appendix... Figure 4 As can be seen, the mask adheres to the wearer's face through pressure. Therefore, once the mask is worn, the user will be unable to speak.

[0018] U.S. Patent Application No. US2017 / 0007861 discloses a breathing mask comprising a face-sealing structure, as described in paragraph

[14] of that application, which is used to surround the user's nose and mouth. Figure 5 It is clear that once the mask is pressed tightly against the user's face, the user will be unable to speak.

[0019] Korean Patent Application No. KR 2005 0042986 discloses a transparent face mask for covering the user's nose and mouth. [The text abruptly ends here, likely due to an incomplete sentence or missing information.] Figure 2 and 11 It is evident that users cannot speak while wearing the mask, as any movement of the jaw will cause the seal to break. Summary of the Invention

[0020] The main object of the present invention is to provide a respiratory protection method using a respiratory protection mask which is transparent, which fits the face of the wearer, which is comfortable to wear, which is well ventilated, which allows the wearer to speak while ensuring the fit and the seal, which is reliable, which is reusable, and which allows the filter to be easily replaced.

[0021] To achieve this object, the inventors have designed a mask whose lower part does not fit under the chin but under the chin. This design allows the user to speak freely without affecting the seal of the mask.

[0022] To achieve the above, a tab is provided on the lower periphery of the mask body, which is fixed to the mask body at an angle and whose free end is bent downwards.

[0023] Thus, the position of the tab and its flexibility do not hinder the downward movement of the lower jaw, since the tab is closer to the temporomandibular joint, it can absorb these less obvious movements, in addition, the bent end of the tab can slide under the chin and adapt to the fit, thus ensuring the seal of the mask without causing discomfort to the user.

[0024] In addition, the curved design of the mask body further enhances the fit between the free end of the tab and the temporomandibular joint. According to the invention, this object is achieved by the respiratory protection method described in point 1 below:

[0025] 1. A respiratory protection method comprising the steps of:

[0026] 1) obtaining a mask comprising:

[0027] - a transparent mask body whose periphery comprises an upper part, a right side part, a left side part and a lower part;

[0028] - a tab located on the periphery of the transparent mask body;

[0029] - at least one assembly, preferably lateral;

[0030] - a right fixing element and a left fixing element;

[0031] • the upper part of the periphery of the mask body has a right curved portion and a left curved portion which, starting from their center point, first bend downwards and then rise upwards,

[0032] • the lower part of the periphery of the mask body is horizontal,

[0033] • the right side part and the left side part of the mask body are vertical,

[0034] • the right fixing element and the left fixing element are fixed respectively on the corner formed between the upper part and the right side part and between the upper part and the left side part of the periphery of the mask body, and

[0035] • the membrane is convex with respect to the mask body, is fixed at one end to the mask body and is free at one end, and, at an upper position of the periphery of the mask body, the free end of the membrane is perpendicular to and distanced from the mask body,

[0036] • and, at a lower position of the periphery of the mask body, the membrane is inclined upwards from the periphery of its fixed area

[0037] the convexity, the free end of which is bent downwards;

[0038] 2) placing the mask on the user's face so that the membrane is positioned at the lower position of the periphery of the mask body, in contact only with the bottom of the user's chin.

[0039] The advantageous features of the method according to the first point are embodied in the following points:

[0040] 2. The respiratory protection method according to the first point, comprising a preselection step of the mask of the user.

[0041] 3. The respiratory protection method according to the third point, wherein the preselection step of the mask comprises a tightness test.

[0042] 4. The method according to the third point, wherein the tightness test is implemented by using a patch to test the fit of the mask. Indeed, if the mask does not have a tightness, it means that it does not fit correctly the user's face and / or that it is not the right size for the user.

[0043] The assembly is preferably located on the side and is preferably a filtering assembly. Preferably, two filtering assemblies are provided, one on each side (right and left) of the mask body.

[0044] The application also relates to a mask according to the fifth point:

[0045] 5. A respiratory protection mask, especially adapted to implement one of the preceding methods, comprising:

[0046] - a transparent mask body, the periphery of which comprises an upper portion, a right side portion, a left side portion and a lower portion;

[0047] - a membrane located on the periphery of the transparent mask body;

[0048] - at least one assembly, preferably lateral;

[0049] - a right fixing member and a left fixing member;

[0050] • the upper portion of the periphery of the mask body has a right curved portion and a left curved portion, both of which curve downwards then upwards from their central point,

[0051] • the lower portion of the periphery of the mask body is horizontal,

[0052] • The right and left sides of the mask body are vertical.

[0053] The right and left fixing parts are respectively fixed to the corners formed between the upper, right, and left sides of the outer perimeter of the mask body, and...

[0054] • The diaphragm protrudes relative to the main body of the mask, with one end fixed to the main body and the other end free, and it extends across the face.

[0055] At the upper part of the outer periphery of the mask body, the free end of the diaphragm is perpendicular to and away from the mask body, and the mask is characterized in that, at the lower part of the outer periphery of the mask body, the diaphragm tilts upward from its fixed outer periphery area and its free end bends downward.

According to yet another aspect, the application relates to a method for testing the sealing of a replaceable cartridge mask, wherein a plug is used instead of a cartridge. This method is applicable to any replaceable cartridge mask, and in particular to the mask of the application.

[0078] Thus, the user of the mask inserts a plug of approximately the same size as the cartridge in the usual location of the cartridge, such as the plug used for mask fit test, and then checks the sealing of the mask by inhaling and exhaling. This method is easier to implement than the prior art, and is more reliable than the method of testing by hand-plugging the mask.

[0091] An embodiment of the transparent protective mask according to the invention is shown in Figures 1 to 11 .

[0092] For a better understanding of its working principle, it is important to note that, in medicine, the normal degree of mouth opening corresponds to the height of three fingers placed vertically on top of each other. As shown in Figure 10 and Figure 11 , when the mouth is open, the mandible swings backwards and downwards, due to the complex movement of the temporomandibular joint (ATM), whose axis simultaneously translates and rotates. The mask according to the invention adopts a unique design, in which the flange formed at the end of the membrane perfectly fits the shape of the mandible of the wearer. This flange is characterized by being able to compress and move backwards to adapt to the complex movement of the mandible. When the wearer opens his mouth, the flange is compressed, allowing the membrane to always remain in sealed contact with the mandible and completely absorbing the displacement of the mandible. This structure allows the mask to remain stable when the wearer speaks, since the nasal support area is not affected. As shown in Figure 1 , the mask is correctly placed on the face of the wearer and is ready to be used. The mask first comprises a transparent mask body 1, which is rigid or semi-rigid, and whose periphery comprises an upper portion 36, a right lateral portion 2, a left lateral portion 3 and a lower portion 4.

[0093] The upper periphery 36 has a right curved portion 5 and a left curved portion 6, both of which start from a central point 7, bend downwards and then extend upwards, finally pointing towards the top of the ears of the wearer, while substantially following the contour of the eyes of the wearer but maintaining a certain distance.

[0094] The lower portion 4 is horizontal, while the lateral portions 2 and 3 are substantially vertical.

[0095] This shape design increases the contact area of the mask body 1 with the face of the wearer, thus better distributing the contact pressure than conventional masks. In addition, this design does not obstruct the key areas for human communication, such as the eyes, nose and mouth, while also not affecting the feature areas required for facial recognition algorithms.

[0096] As shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3 , the mask body 1 is provided with a membrane 8 for facial contact that extends around the periphery of the mask body 1.

[0097] One end of the membrane 8 is fixed to the mask body 1 and protrudes from the body.

[0098] At the upper portion 36 of the mask body 1, the free end of the membrane 8 extends outwardly perpendicular to the mask body 1, as shown in Figure 1 , to reduce visual obstruction. Thus, the wearer can only see a narrow strip of the membrane edge.

[0099] At the side portions 2 and 3 of the mask body 1, the free end of the membrane 8 also extends outwardly perpendicular to the mask body 1 and then curves backward to increase the contact area and to adapt to facial movements. In addition, the width of the membrane 8 gradually increases from top to bottom to compensate for the natural narrowing of the face, thus ensuring that the lower portion 4 of the mask body 1 remains horizontal.

[0100] At the lower portion 4 of the mask body 1, the membrane 8 is inclined upward from the fixed peripheral area of the mask body 1 and its free end is curved downward, as shown in Figure 4 . This curved design increases the contact area with the lower jaw, improves the sealing, and at the same time ensures stability during movements of the lower jaw.

[0101] In fact, as can be more clearly seen from Figure 9 , due to the inclined angle of the membrane 8 and the downward curvature of the free end, it can absorb the downward movement of the lower jaw while maintaining the sealing, and the downward curvature also prevents the membrane from causing discomfort at the lower jaw of the user.

[0102] In addition, as shown in Figure 4 and Figure 5 , the left and right sides of the membrane 8 are close to each other and form an arc shape.

[0103] The membrane 8 is widened at the side portions 2 and 3 of the mask body 1 and at the lower portion 4 of the mask body 1, the left and right edges of the membrane 8 are close to each other, so that the whole presents an arc shape, thus better fitting the chin of the user and providing good adaptability due to the softness of the membrane 8.

[0104] By maintaining the distance between the mask body 1 and the face, the membrane 8 forms a space in front of the mouth and nose, thus facilitating breathing and air circulation. Due to this, the wearer can breathe normally without having to make an effort, as shown in Figure 4 . The mask according to the present application has a right fixing member 9 and a left fixing member 10 fixed to the face of the wearer, arranged to pass around the ears or head. One end of the right fixing member 9 and the left fixing member 10 is fixed at the connection points 11 and 12 of the upper portion 36 and the side portions 2 and 3 of the transparent mask body 1, respectively, and the other end is fixed at the connection portions 13 and 14 of the lower portion 4 and the side portions 2 and 3, respectively.

[0105] This makes the membrane 8 form a major support at the upper portion 36 of the face along the entire mask body 1, a lighter support at the side portions 2 and 3 and a still lighter support at the lower portion 4. Preferably, the dimensions of the mask body 1, in particular the length of the peripheral side portions 2 and 3, are designed so that the lower portion 4 is located below the chin of the user, as seen from Figures 1 to 3 It is clear.

[0106] The mask body 1 is generally curved in an arc from the upper portion to the lower portion. Thus, it is generally a portion of a sphere overall, which mainly helps to prevent large-scale reflection of light and leaves a comfortable space in front of the nose and mouth of the wearer.

[0107] The membrane 8, on the one hand, adapts the mask body 1 to different face shapes and, on the other hand, due to its stable fit, it can adapt to facial movements (such as speaking, making faces and other facial expressions).

[0108] The greatest support force acts at the upper portion 36, where the free end of the membrane is preferably provided with an additional facial contact 34, in particular from Figure 4 It can be seen that it softens and lightens the pressure on the face.

[0109] The support of the mask body on the face can also be adjusted by the right 9 and left 10 fasteners, whose length can be changed by means of the fastening means of the mask body 1, as shown in Figure 4 The lower parts of the fasteners 10 and 11 are fixed by means of clamps at the connection portions 13 and 14, respectively, and their sliding in the clamps can be adjusted by pulling the fasteners 9 and 10.

[0110] In particular, in Figure 1 It can be seen that the mask body 1 has an air filtering assembly 15 and 16 on each side. Since the mask body 1 is airtight, the membrane 8 seals the inside of the mask, so it is necessary to allow air to pass so that the wearer can breathe normally.

[0111] The air filtering assemblies 15 and 16 are visible in detail in Figure 5 They are each formed by a base 17 and 18 fixed on the side of the mask body 1 in openings of similar size.

[0112] The bases 17 and 18 are provided with ventilation holes 19 and 20 for the entry and exit of air, so the air filtering assemblies 15 and 16 are bidirectional.

[0113] The covers 17 and 18 are provided with a base plate. They each have a main side 21 and 22, and a side wall 23 and 24 perpendicular to this side, covering a part of its periphery, so as to leave an open side for the insertion of the filter 25 and 28. The air flows through this open side only, which is directed towards the rear. This avoids saliva or droplets from splashing onto the active surface of the filter.

[0114] The main sides 21 and 22 are provided with ribs 26 and 27 on the surface directed towards the base 17 and 18, for creating a space for the air flow between the main sides 21 and 22 of the cover and the filter 25 and 28, and for providing a stable support for the filter.

[0115] The other surface of the main sides 21 and 22, i.e. the surface directed towards the outside of the mask, can display various information (such as name, brand, logo, pattern, etc.).

[0116] Figure 6 The insertion of the filter 25 into the cover is shown, Figure 7 The filter 25 in the normal use position is shown.

[0117] For ease of installation and removal, each filter 25 and 28 is preferably provided with a tab 29 and 30.

[0118] The cover is provided with a rim 31 and 32 at the end of its side wall 23 and 24, i.e. on the side opposite the main side 21 and 22, for contacting the base 17 and 18 and forming a filter chamber, as shown in particular in Figure 6 and Figure 7 .

[0119] In addition, the cover is provided with rivets 33 and 34, which pass through corresponding holes (see Figure 8 ) in the base 17 and 18 and are fixed to the mask body 1, to firmly and sealingly fix the cover to the mask body.

[0120] It will be understood that the filters 25 and 28 serve to close all the vents 19 and 20, and that the tabs 19 and 20 are preferably left outside the filter assembly, so as to be accessible.

[0121] Preferably, the filters 25 and 28 have a rigid, air-impermeable frame 35 and 37, the inside of which is of porous material.

[0122] The air filter assemblies 15 and 16 thus act as cassette units, while the filters 25 and 28 act as filter cartridges.

[0123] Different types of filters can be accommodated to achieve different types of filtration.

[0124] The design of the air filter assemblies 15 and 16 facilitates easy replacement of the filter portions 25 and 28 without the need to remove the face shield or disassemble any of its components, by simply sliding each filter portion 25 and 28 into the filter portion chamber of the respective air filter assembly 15 and 16, between the two parallel inner surfaces of the side walls 23 and 24, until it abuts the inner surfaces of the side walls 23 and 24, i.e. the opposite side of the filter portion chamber.

[0125] In particular from Figure 6 and Figure 7 It can be seen that the filter assemblies 15 and 16 are isosceles trapezoids in plan view, with their parallel sides being concentrically curved, and with the smaller sides of the trapezoids being preferably closer to the center of the virtual circle.

[0126] The filter portions 25 and 27 are identical in shape, if the tabs 29 and 30 are disregarded. This shape facilitates insertion of the filter portions 25 and 27 into the filter portion chamber through their curved smaller sides.

[0127] Materials and Manufacture

[0128] The respiratory protection face shield can be manufactured from known materials, for example by means of double-shot, over-molding or thermoforming. Preferably, the membrane 8 and the face shield body 1 are made by means of simultaneous or sequential double injection molding.

[0129] The membrane is preferably made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) and / or styrene thermoplastic elastomer (TPE-S) or alternatively silicone.

[0130] The face shield body 1 is made of transparent injectable plastic or biological material.

[0131] The side assemblies 15 and 16 are at least partially made of polypropylene (PP) and / or polylactic acid (PLA) and / or polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) and / or biopolyester.

[0132] The filter portion frame is typically made of elastomer-thermoplastic injectable material.

[0133] The porous filter material varies according to the type of filtration required. For example, the filter portion can be made of polypropylene or equivalent material for anti-infectious particle filtration.

[0134] The transparent face shield according to the present application is preferably divided into 3 sizes to fit most human faces, and to provide more rare sizes according to certain facial morphologies.

[0135] The entire face shield, except the filter portion, is reusable after sanitizing cleaning.
