Description

[0001] This invention relates to a device comprising two elements and a hinge, the two elements being mounted to pivot relative to each other about an axis of rotation, the hinge connecting the two elements at the axis of rotation. The device is typically, but not limited to, a jewelry box or a watch display case. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing the device according to the invention. Technical Field

[0002] This invention relates to the field of devices equipped with hinges. Background Technology

[0003] Devices such as jewelry boxes (e.g., jewelry storage boxes) or watch display boxes are known, which include two elements that are mounted so as to be pivotable relative to each other about a rotation axis by means of hinges.

[0004] For example, patent document US 6,513,672 B1 describes such a jewelry organizer. The jewelry organizer includes a base and a lid, the lid being pivotally mounted on the base via a spring-loaded hinge. The jewelry organizer also includes a fabric insert that is inserted into the jewelry organizer and held and secured in place by a specific construction of the base and lid. The jewelry organizer described in this patent document is lined with fabric, requiring no glue, making it easy to recycle the various parts that make up the organizer. The fabric insert then covers the interior of the base and lid, as well as the hinge, making the hinge virtually invisible from the outside. However, although the spring-loaded hinge is virtually invisible from the outside, this hinge is relatively large, which detracts from the overall aesthetics of the product and makes the hinge visible from the inside. Furthermore, because this hinge is made of metal, its presence in the jewelry organizer adds a metal component to the overall design, which, due to the variety of materials used, is detrimental to the overall production cost and recyclability.

[0005] Therefore, there is a need for a device (such as, for example, a jewelry box or watch display case) that comprises two elements and a hinge connecting the two elements so as to enable pivoting, the hinge being completely invisible from both the outside and inside of the product, and allowing for easy recycling. Summary of the Invention

[0006] The present invention aims to overcome all or some of the shortcomings of the aforementioned prior art.

[0007] Therefore, according to a first aspect, the present invention relates to a device comprising two elements and a hinge, the two elements being mounted to be pivotable relative to each other about a rotation axis, the hinge connecting the two elements at the rotation axis, each element having a bottom and a sidewall surrounding the bottom.

[0008] According to the invention, the hinge includes at least one longitudinal strand and at least one member for blocking one end of the longitudinal strand within the sidewall of one of the elements, and each element is provided with at least one channel for receiving the longitudinal strand, the channel being formed in the sidewall of the element, each channel leading to at least one opening formed on a surface of the sidewall of the corresponding element arranged along the axis of rotation, the sidewall of at least one element including an internal cavity for accommodating the blocking member.

[0009] The combination of a hinge constructed in this way and the presence of such channels in each element provides a device in which the hinge is completely invisible from both the outside and inside of the product. The hinge also contains no metallic material, making the device easy to recycle because it is advantageously made of a material similar to or equivalent to the material used for the elements. Furthermore, by acting on a blocking member, the longitudinal strands can be easily removed from the channels into which they are inserted, thereby allowing the two elements to be separated from each other. The resulting detachability (or separability) of the components contributes to the recyclability of the device.

[0010] According to the first variant, the hinge includes at least two longitudinal strands, at least two members for blocking one end of the longitudinal strands, and at least two internal cavities for receiving the blocking members. Each longitudinal strand is composed of a tie band, and each member for blocking one end of the tie band is composed of a tie band head. Each element is provided with at least two channels formed in the sidewall of the element for receiving the tie band.

[0011] The presence of at least two binding straps within the hinge provides optimal rigidity. Preferably, the hinge consists of at least three binding straps.

[0012] According to one embodiment of the first variant, each channel of the element opens to a sidewall of the element arranged along the axis of rotation via a first opening and to an inner surface of the sidewall of the element via a second opening. Each internal cavity for receiving the blocking member is formed in one of the second openings of the element. Each cable tie extends in a corresponding channel of each of the two elements and is secured in one of the second openings of the first element by one of its ends and in one of the cable tie heads arranged in one of the internal cavities of the second element by its other end.

[0013] According to one embodiment of the first variant, each channel for receiving the cable tie forms a recess or groove.

[0014] Preferably, each channel for receiving the cable tie has a J-shaped longitudinal section. According to the invention, "longitudinal section" is understood to mean a section formed by a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the hinge and intersecting the channel along the longest axis of the channel.

[0015] According to this first variant of the device, two components, such as the housing, are made of an injected polymer material (typically a thermoplastic). Advantageously, each cable tie and each cable tie head is made of the same polymer material used for the housing. This further enhances the recyclability of the device.

[0016] According to the second variation, the at least one longitudinal strand is composed of a rope, and at least one member for blocking one end of the longitudinal strand is composed of a bead, the bead being drilled with a through opening for receiving the rope, the end portion of the rope being wound around the bead, and the internal cavity for receiving the blocking member being configured to clamp the end portion of the rope by friction with the blocking member, thereby allowing the end of the rope to be blocked in the cavity.

[0017] According to one embodiment of this second variation, the bead, or each bead, is provided with a notch capable of engaging with a tool head intended to rotate the bead itself within a receiving cavity, the notch extending in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction in which the through opening extends through the bead. According to a particular embodiment, the notch is a slot.

[0018] According to one embodiment of this second variation, each channel for receiving the rope forms an open groove.

[0019] Preferably, each groove is semi-cylindrical. Even more preferably, each groove has a U-shaped cross-section. According to the invention, "cross-section" should be understood to mean a cross-section formed by a plane perpendicular to its longest axis intersecting the groove.

[0020] According to one embodiment of this second variation, the hinge includes a rope, two beads for blocking corresponding ends of the rope, and two internal cavities for receiving the beads. A first element has a channel in its sidewall for receiving the rope, the channel leading to two separate openings formed on the same surface of the sidewall arranged along the axis of rotation. A second element has a first channel and a second channel in its sidewall for receiving the rope, the first channel leading to a first internal cavity for receiving a first bead and the sidewall surface arranged along the axis of rotation, and the second channel leading to a second internal cavity for receiving a second bead and the sidewall surface arranged along the axis of rotation. The rope enters the first channel of the second element, then the channel of the first element, and then the second channel of the second element. This embodiment allows the hinge to be formed using only a single rope, advantageously saving materials and labor time, thereby reducing costs.

[0021] Preferably, the second element, the first channel for receiving the rope, and the second channel for receiving the rope are substantially straight and extend in their respective directions, forming an angle between them of 60 to 120 degrees, preferably substantially equal to 90 degrees. This allows for optimal rigidity of the hinge while using a single rope to form the hinge.

[0022] Preferably, the rope, or each rope, is composed of polyamide. This material allows for a good trade-off between the rigidity and flexibility of the hinge, while allowing each rope to be easily inserted into the corresponding channel of the element without compromising the recyclability of the wood or equivalent material used for the element.

[0023] According to this second variant, the two components of the device are, for example, a box shell made of reinforced cardboard material or wood panels containing wood fibers within resin. Advantageously, each blocking bead is made of solid, inexpensive wood, such as beech. This further enhances the recyclability of the device.

[0024] According to one implementation, the two components of the device are identical.

[0025] According to one embodiment, the device is a jewelry box or watch display case, and each of the two elements of the device is a box shell.

[0026] According to a second aspect, the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an apparatus comprising two elements and a hinge connecting the two elements so as to enable pivoting about a rotation axis.

[0027] According to one implementation scheme, the manufacturing method includes the following steps:

[0028] i. Supplying at least one longitudinal strand and at least one member for blocking one end of the longitudinal strand to two elements, each element having a bottom and a sidewall surrounding the bottom, each element having at least one channel in its sidewall for receiving the longitudinal strand, each channel leading to at least one opening formed on a surface arranged along the axis of rotation on the sidewall of the corresponding element, and at least one blocking member being received in an internal cavity formed in the sidewall of one of the elements;

[0029] ii. Cover the outside of each of the two elements with a covering, each covering covering the sidewall of the corresponding element;

[0030] iii. Drill at least two holes in each of the covers, each hole extending opposite to one of the openings formed on the sidewall of the corresponding element.

[0031] iv. Insert the at least one longitudinal strand through one of the holes in each of the covers, and then into the opposing openings on the sidewall of at least one element in the element, until the free end of the at least one longitudinal strand or each free end reaches the member for blocking one end of the longitudinal strand, the at least one longitudinal strand forming the hinge and extending within at least one corresponding channel in each of the two elements.

[0032] Preferably, the manufacturing method further includes the step of blocking at least one end of the at least one longitudinal strand in a suitable position by acting on the at least one blocking member. Attached Figure Description

[0043] According to the present invention, "longitudinal strand" is understood to mean any element (e.g., such as a tie, rope, or strip) extending in the main extension direction whose length is significantly greater than each of its other dimensions considered individually, the length being measured in the main extension direction.

[0044] According to the present invention, the expression "a component for blocking one end of a longitudinal strand" should be understood to mean any element capable of blocking the end of a longitudinal strand according to at least one degree of freedom.

[0045] The terms “horizontal,” “vertical,” “lower,” “upper,” “top,” “bottom,” and “side” are defined relative to the orientation of the device according to the invention. Specifically, in this application, the term “vertical” refers to an orientation perpendicular to the horizon, while the term “horizontal” refers to an orientation parallel to the horizon. On the other hand, the terms “longitudinal” or “lateral” are defined relative to the extension dimension of each longitudinal strand, while the term “lateral” refers to a direction perpendicular to the main extension direction of each longitudinal strand. Detailed Implementation

[0046] Figures 1 to 5 A device 2 according to a first variation of the invention is depicted. Device 2 includes two elements 4 and 6 and a hinge 8 connecting the two elements at a rotation axis A-A'. When device 2 is placed on a planar horizontal surface, the rotation axis A-A' is a horizontal axis. The two elements 4 and 6 are mounted so that they can pivot relative to each other about the pivot axis A-A'. Therefore, device 2 has an open configuration (such as...). Figure 2 (as shown) and closed configurations (such as) Figure 1 As shown), in the open configuration, the two elements 4 and 6 are spaced apart, and in the closed configuration, the two elements 4 and 6 are in contact with each other.

[0047] Device 2 is, for example, a jewelry box or watch display case (not shown in the figure), and each of the two elements 4 and 6 is the shell of box 2. Box 2 then includes a lower shell 4 and an upper shell 6, the upper shell 6 forming the lid of box 2, and the lower shell 4 forming a base designed to rest against a flat surface (such as a table or, for example, the surface of a piece of furniture). Figures 1 to 5 In the specific variant shown, each housing 4, 6 is preferably made of injection-molded polymer material, typically thermoplastic.

[0048] Each element 4, 6 is provided with a bottom 10 and a sidewall 12 surrounding the bottom 10. Preferably, and as Figure 2 and Figure 3As shown, each sidewall 12 forms a continuous surface that defines the bottom 10 and, together with the bottom, defines the internal cavity 14. Even more preferably, and as... Figure 3 As can be seen, the device 2 also includes two covers 9A and 9B, each designed to cover the outer surfaces (i.e., the surfaces outside the cavity 14) of the bottom 10 and sidewall 12 of the respective elements 4 and 6. The inner surfaces (i.e., the surfaces inside the cavity 14) of the bottom 10 and sidewall 12 of each element 4 and 6 can also be lined by covering them with a material or insert (not shown) made of, for example, fabric.

[0049] The hinge 8 includes four longitudinal strands 16 and four members 18 for securing one end of each longitudinal strand 16 within the sidewall 12 of the lower element 4. In a variant not shown, the securing members 18 may be disposed within the sidewall 12 of the upper element 6. Each longitudinal strand 16 is in the form of a cable tie, and each member 18 for securing one end of the longitudinal strand 16 is in the form of a cable tie head. Advantageously, each cable tie 16 and each cable tie head 18 is made of the same polymer material used for the housings 4 and 6.

[0050] like Figure 3 As shown, the sidewall 12 of each element 4, 6 is provided with four channels 20 for receiving the longitudinal strands 16. One of the elements 4, 6 (in this case, is...) Figures 1 to 5 The sidewall 12 of the lower element 4 in the exemplary embodiment shown is also provided with four internal cavities 22 for accommodating the blocking member 18 (the internal cavities 22 are in... Figures 3 to 5 (Especially visible in the middle).

[0051] like Figures 3 to 5 As shown, each channel 20 leads to a first opening 24 formed on a surface 26 of the sidewall 12 of the corresponding elements 4 and 6, the surface 26 being arranged along the axis of rotation A-A'. Figures 1 to 5 In a particular embodiment, each face 26 forms a straight edge of a continuous edge 27 belonging to the sidewall 12 of the corresponding element 4, 6, and when the device 2 is in its closed configuration, each face is intended to engage with the face 26 of the sidewall 12 of the other element 4, 6. Each channel 20 also leads to a second opening 28 disposed on the inner face of the sidewall 12 of the corresponding element 4, 6. Each inner cavity 22 for receiving the blocking member 18 is formed in one of the elements 4, 6 (in this case, in the case of the element 6). Figures 1 to 5 In one of the second openings of the second opening 28 of the lower element 4) in the exemplary embodiment shown.

[0052] like Figures 2 to 5As shown, each longitudinal strand 16 is thus fixed at one end of its end in the second opening 28 of the upper element 6, received in one of the channels 20 of the upper element 6, exposed through the first opening 24 of the upper element 6 (and thus through the cover 9B of the upper element 6, which in particular covers the corresponding surface 26), enters the lower element through one of the first openings 24 of the lower element 4 (and thus through the cover 9A of the lower element 4, which in particular covers the corresponding surface 26), is received in the corresponding channel 20 of the lower element 4, and then reaches one of the internal cavities 22 of the internal cavity of the lower element 4, and is fixed at its other end by means of a blocking member 18 (more precisely, by clamping, by inserting the end of the cable tie 16 into the cable tie head 18).

[0053] exist Figures 1 to 5 In the particular embodiment shown, each channel 20 for receiving the cable tie 16 forms a (closed) well recess. In a variation not shown, each channel 20 for receiving the cable tie 16 may form a groove.

[0054] Preferably, and as particularly in Figures 2 to 5 As can be seen, each channel 20 for receiving the cable tie 16 has a J-shaped longitudinal section, with the top of the J leading to the first opening 24 and the legs of the J leading to the second opening 28.

[0055] Figures 6 to 10 A device 32 according to a second variation of the invention is shown. Hereinafter, elements identified having the same reference numerals as those used for the elements in the first embodiment are the same as or equivalent to those elements, and therefore will not be described in further detail.

[0056] The device 32 includes two elements 4 and 6 and a hinge 8 connecting the two elements at a rotation axis A-A'. The two elements 4 and 6 are mounted so as to be able to pivot relative to each other about the pivot axis A-A'.

[0057] Device 32 is, for example, a jewelry box or watch display case (not shown in the figure), and each of the two elements 4 and 6 is the shell of box 2. Figures 6 to 10 In the specific variant shown, each shell 4, 6 is in the form of a cuboid and is preferably made of a material composed of reinforced cardboard or wood panels containing wood fibers within a resin.

[0058] Each element 4, 6 is provided with a bottom 10 and a sidewall 34 surrounding the bottom 10. Preferably, and as Figure 7 As shown, each sidewall 34 forms a continuous surface that defines the bottom 10 and, together with the bottom, defines the internal cavity 14. Even more preferably, and as... Figure 8As can be seen, device 32 also includes two covers 9A and 9B, each designed to cover the outer surfaces (i.e., the surfaces outside the cavity 14) of the bottom 10 and sidewall 34 of the respective elements 4 and 6. The inner surfaces (i.e., the surfaces within the cavity 14) of the bottom 10 and sidewall 34 of each element 4 and 6 can also be lined with, for example, a piece of material or insert (not shown) made of fabric. Figure 8 It can also be noted that the sidewall 34 of each element 4, 6 is typically composed of four panels 34A to 34D, which are made of reinforced cardboard or wood boards containing wood fibers in resin. The four panels 34A to 34D are assembled or glued together as two pairs of equivalent right-angled panels to form the sidewall 34 (which is essentially cuboid in shape).

[0059] The hinge 8 includes a longitudinal strand 36 and two members 38 for blocking the respective ends of the longitudinal strand 36 within the side wall 34 of the lower element 4. In a variant not shown, the blocking members 38 may be provided on the side wall 34 of the upper element 6.

[0060] The longitudinal strands 36 are provided in the form of rope (usually made of polyamide), and each member 38 used to block one end of the longitudinal strands 36 is in the form of a bead with a through opening 40 (or through hole) drilled to receive the rope 36. Advantageously, each blocking bead 38 is made of solid, inexpensive wood, such as beech.

[0061] like Figures 8 to 10 As shown, each end of the rope 36 passes through the through opening 40 of one of the blocking beads 38 and then wraps around the bead 38, such that the corresponding end portion of the rope 36 is wrapped around the bead 38. Preferably, as Figure 8 and Figure 10 As shown, each blocking bead 38 is also provided with a notch 41 (typically a slot) adapted to engage with a tool head (not shown) for causing the bead 38 to rotate within the receiving cavity 22. An operator equipped with such a tool can then easily tighten or loosen the bead 38, thereby blocking the rope 36 in the cavity 22 or releasing the rope 36 from the bead 38. The notch 41 is, for example, straight in shape and typically extends substantially perpendicular to the direction in which the through opening 40 extends through the corresponding bead 38.

[0062] like Figure 8 As shown, the sidewall 34 of the lower element 4 is provided with two channels 42 for receiving the longitudinal strand 36, and the sidewall 34 of the upper element 6 is provided with a single channel 44 for receiving the longitudinal strand 36. One of the elements 4 and 6 (in this case, in...) Figures 6 to 10The sidewall 12 of the lower element 4 in the exemplary embodiment shown is also provided with two internal cavities 22 for accommodating the blocking member 38 (the internal cavities 22 are in...). Figures 8 to 10 (Especially visible in the middle).

[0063] like Figures 8 to 10 As can be seen, each channel 42 leads to a first opening 24 formed on a surface 26 of the sidewall 34 of the lower element 4, the surface 26 being arranged along the axis of rotation A-A'. Figures 6 to 10 In a particular embodiment, surface 26 forms a straight edge of a continuous edge 27 belonging to the sidewall 34 of the lower element 4, and when the device 2 is in its closed configuration, this surface is intended to engage with surface 26 of the sidewall 34 of the upper element 6. Each channel 42 also leads to a second opening 28 formed on the inner surface of the sidewall 34 of the lower element 4. Each inner cavity 22 for receiving the blocking bead 38 is formed in a second opening of the second opening 28 of the lower element 4. Thus, each bead 38 is inserted into one of the inner cavities 22, the bead 38 and the cavity 22 having a matching shape (e.g., circular). Each inner cavity 22 is configured to frictionally clamp the end portion of the rope 36 wound on the blocking bead 38, such that the end of the rope 36 can be blocked in the cavity 22. Preferably, the two channels 42 are substantially straight and extend in corresponding directions, forming an angle α1 between them between 60 and 120 degrees, preferably substantially equal to 90 degrees.

[0064] like Figure 8 As shown, channel 44 leads to two separate first openings 24 formed on the same surface 26 of the sidewall 34 of the upper element 6, with surface 26 arranged along the axis of rotation A-A'. Figures 6 to 10 In a particular implementation, channel 44 has, for example, an arc shape.

[0065] like Figures 8 to 10As shown, the longitudinal strand 36 is thus fixed at one end of its end in an internal cavity 22 of the lower element 4 (by winding around one of the blocking beads 38), received in a channel 42 of the lower element 4, exiting through the first opening 24 of the lower element 4 (and thus through the cover 9A of the lower element 4, which in particular covers the corresponding surface 26), and entering the upper element 6 through a first opening in the first opening 24 of the upper element 6 (and thus through the cover 9B of the upper element 6, which in particular covers the corresponding surface 26). It is received in the channel 44 of the upper element 4, exits the channel 44 through another first opening in the first opening 24 of the upper element 6 (and thus passes through the cover 9B of the upper element 6 again), enters the lower element 4 through another first opening 24 (and thus passes through the cover 9A of the lower element 4 again), is received in another channel 42 of the lower element 4, and then reaches another internal cavity 22 of the lower element 4, and is fixed at its other end by another stop bead 38 (more precisely, by friction clamping, by wrapping around the stop bead 38).

[0066] exist Figures 6 to 10 In the particular exemplary embodiment shown, each channel 42, 44 for receiving the rope 36 forms an open groove. Preferably, each groove 42, 44 is semi-cylindrical. Even more preferably, each groove 42, 44 has a U-shaped cross-section. In a variation not shown, each channel 42, 44 for receiving the rope 36 may form a (closed) well recess.

[0067] According to a variation of the invention (not shown in the figure), the hinge 8 may include a plurality of longitudinal strands 36 in the form of ropes and a plurality of stop beads 38 in different arrangements and configurations (e.g., each rope 36 is equipped with one or two stop beads 38, with a different number of receiving channels 40 and these receiving channels 40 having different shapes).

[0068] A method for manufacturing the apparatus 2, 32 according to the first or second variant of the invention will now be described.

[0069] During the first step, each element 4, 6 is lined with one of the covers 9A, 9B. In other words, each cover 9A, 9B is arranged to cover the bottom 10 and the outer surfaces of the sidewalls 12, 34 of the respective element 4, 6 (i.e., the surfaces located outside the cavity 14). Each cover 9A, 9B also covers the continuous edge 27 of each element 4, 6, and thus the surface 26 of the sidewalls 12, 34 of each element 4, 6 that is intended to be arranged along the axis of rotation A-A'.

[0070] In a subsequent step, at least two holes are drilled in each of the covers 9A and 9B (these holes are not shown in the figures for clarity). For each cover 9A and 9B, the same number of holes are drilled in the cover as the number of first openings 24 in the corresponding elements 4 and 6. Each hole drilled in one of the covers 9A and 9B is configured to extend relative to a first opening in one of the first openings 24 formed on the surface 26 of the sidewalls 12 and 34 of the corresponding elements 4 and 6, which is intended to be arranged along the axis of rotation A-A'.

[0071] During the subsequent steps, the longitudinal strands 16, 36, or each of the longitudinal strands 16, 36, are inserted through one of the holes in each of the covers 9A, 9B, and then into the opposing first openings 24 formed on the faces 26 of the sidewalls 12, 34 of each corresponding element 4, 6 (or, in a first variant of the invention, only into the opposing first openings 24 of the lower element 4). This insertion is then made in the channels 20, 42, 44 until the free ends of the longitudinal strands 16, 36, or each of the longitudinal strands 16, 36, reach one of the blocking members 18, 38. At the end of this step, a hinge 8 is formed, which consists of the longitudinal strands 16, 36, or each of the longitudinal strands 16, 36, associated with the blocking members 18, 38.

[0072] During the final step, the longitudinal strands 16, 36, or at least one end of each longitudinal strand 16, 36, are blocked in one of the blocking members 18, 38, specifically by acting on the blocking member 18, 38 (in the first variation, the end of the binding tape 16 is clamped in the binding tape head 18; in the second variation, the bead 38 is twisted onto itself in order to bind the end portion of the rope 36 with the binding tape).
