Orthodontic hook

Abstract

An orthodontic hook includes a hook body and an underpad connectable to a tooth surface, the hook body extending through a connection from the underpad to a cantilever portion forming a cantilever beam above the underpad to form a channel within the hook, a tip portion having a first tip along a point of maximum extension of the cantilever portion and a second tip closest to the underpad, the channel forming an opening between the first tip and the underpad and a constriction between the second tip and the underpad, the channel continuously narrowing from the opening to the constriction and continuously widening from the constriction to a center of the channel, and a fifth width W5 of the constriction being less than 1.0 mm. Another feature is the tip portion forming a protrusion having a top end at the second tip, the protrusion continuously decreasing in size toward the second tip, and a distance D9 between the second tip and a top surface of the tip portion being at least 2.4 times a distance D5 between the first tip and the top surface of the tip portion.
