Description

[0001] The invention relates to a vehicle door having the features of the preamble of claim 1.

[0002] A typical vehicle door consists of an outer and an inner panel, which essentially define the door's external shape and mechanical stability. These panels, when assembled, are also referred to as the "door frame." A door module is usually located on the inside of the inner panel. This module serves, for example, to cover openings in the inner panel and to hold functional elements such as electric windows, speakers, locking mechanisms, etc. A watertight connection between the door module and the inner panel is typically necessary. For aesthetic reasons, among others, the door module must be covered by an interior door panel on the passenger side. The door module, usually made of plastic, essentially complements the inner panel. Therefore, increasing the size of the door module while simultaneously reducing the area of the inner panel can reduce the weight of the vehicle door. This can lead to the cross-section or size of the door module being almost identical to that of the interior trim, and the outer contour of the door module being essentially based on the outer contour of the interior trim.

[0003] While the door module is attached to the inner door panel, the interior trim can be attached either to the inner panel or to the door module itself. If a specific gap between the inner panel and the interior trim needs to be maintained, direct attachment to the inner panel is preferable. However, this leads to problems with attaching the door module and the interior trim, as both elements often need to be attached to the inner panel at the same point, for example, at corners, to ensure optimal sealing and a minimal gap. This issue arises particularly when, as described above, the outer contours of the inner panel and interior trim are essentially identical. In reality, however, the respective fastening elements for the interior trim on the one hand and the door module on the other are currently spatially offset from each other, which represents a deviation from the optimal configuration. The fastening clips commonly used to secure the interior trim, which engage in a recess on the side of the door module or inner panel via a combination of frictional and positive locking, are normally unable to generate sufficient clamping forces to, for example, ensure a watertight connection between the door module and the inner panel.

[0004] The invention most closely related to DE 198 38 560 A1 discloses a rotary quick-release fastener for connecting an inner door panel of a motor vehicle and an engine carrier to a decorative carrier shell. The fastener is designed as a rotatable retaining element comprising a head section and a shaft section. At least one clamping projection is provided on the outer circumference of the shaft section, which has a contact flank facing the head section for contacting the inner door panel. The head section has a contact surface for contacting the engine carrier, which faces the contact flank of the clamping projection. This allows the inner door panel and the engine carrier to be clamped between the contact flank and the contact surface by rotating the retaining element. Furthermore, a receiving cavity can be formed in the shaft section into which a snap-in clip can be clipped, which in turn is connected to the decorative carrier shell. The connection to the inner sheet metal (door inner sheet metal) is made by means of at least one clamping projection via a type of bayonet connection.

[0005] US Patent 2008 / 0219785A1 discloses a fastening device for attaching a panel element, in particular a door or wall panel, to a support, especially to a part of a vehicle body. The fastening device has a connecting element that can be connected to the panel element, as well as an engagement part for securing the fastening device behind an opening in the support.

[0006] EP 2 358 564 B1 discloses a device for fastening a vehicle interior trim panel to a trim panel support, comprising a retaining element and a receiving element. The receiving element has a detent section into which the retaining element can engage, thus securing it to the receiving element in an axial direction. The retaining element is provided with two opposing elastic wings which elastically pre-tension the fastening device in the axial direction, with the free ends of the wings bearing against the receiving element when the fastening device is mounted. The fastening of the vehicle interior trim panel to a trim panel support, which can be a door panel, a module support, or a stiffening strut of the vehicle door, is further described.

[0007] DE 20 2006 012 577 U1 discloses a component carrier for installation in the door structure of a motor vehicle door, on which functional components of the motor vehicle door can be pre-assembled. Fastening elements provided on the component carrier project from a door-structure-side surface of the component carrier and engage in corresponding fastening points of the door structure when the component carrier is installed in the door structure, thus fixing the component carrier to the door structure. Before the component carrier is installed in the door structure, the fastening elements are held in a mounting position on the component carrier such that they do not project from the door-structure-side surface of the component carrier. Each fastening element has a corresponding opening on the component carrier through which the fastening elements can be brought into their mounting position, in which they project from the door-structure-side surface of the component carrier.

[0008] From US Patent 2008 / 0201920A1, a fastening device for attaching a module carrier and a trim panel to a body-in-white of a motor vehicle is known. This device comprises a fastening clip and a module carrier part with an opening for receiving the fastening clip, wherein the fastening clip has a shaft and a head integrally formed with the shaft, and wherein locking elements are provided on the shaft below the head, which engage in the opening of the module carrier part and secure the fastening clip to the module carrier part.

[0009] US Patent 2017 / 0284437A1 discloses a fastening clip for attaching a component to a plate by means of a threaded fastener, wherein the fastening clip comprises: a clip body designed to be inserted into an opening, forming an inner cavity into which a threaded fastener can be inserted along a screw axis, the clip body having a rim that presses against a first surface of the plate; one or more flexible retaining clips connected to the clip body and configured to press against a second surface and, together with the rim, secure the clip body to the plate; and a plurality of flexible locking pawls connected to the clip body and extending into the inner cavity to connect the threaded fastener to the fastening clip.

[0010] US Patent 9,555,695 B2 discloses a vehicle door with a trim panel and a trim frame attached to the trim panel to improve its stability. The trim panel and trim frame each have a flange that may be connected by fastening clips. Furthermore, bolts pass through both flanges and are screwed into weld nuts on an inner sheet metal panel of the door.

[0011] Given the current state of the art, the integration of a door module and interior trim in a vehicle door still offers room for improvement.

[0012] The invention is based on the objective of achieving a reliable seal against moisture between the door module and the inner sheet metal, even with increased manufacturing tolerances.

[0013] According to the invention, the problem is solved by a vehicle door having the features of claim 1.

[0014] A vehicle door is shown in which an inner panel, a door module and an inner trim are connected via a plurality of connection arrangements, each of which has a fastening clip connected to the inner trim and a coupling element in which the fastening clip is engaged and which is axially guided through through openings in the inner panel and the door module and connects the inner panel and the door module by an axial positive fit, which can be released by means of a rotational movement of the coupling element, and the coupling element has a radially projecting retaining section which rests against the door module and establishes an axial positive fit with it, and wherein a first sealing element is arranged between the door module and the inner panel.According to the invention, the coupling element is connected to the inner sheet by a screw connection which simultaneously combines the rotary movement with an axial movement component, wherein the coupling element has an external thread which interacts with an internal thread on the side of the inner sheet.

[0015] The dependent claims relate to advantageous embodiments of the invention.

[0016] It should be noted that the features and measures listed individually in the following description can be combined with one another in any technically reasonable manner and demonstrate further embodiments of the invention. The description further characterizes and specifies the invention, particularly in conjunction with the figures.

[0017] A vehicle door is provided in which an inner panel, a door module, and an inner trim panel are connected via multiple connection arrangements, each of which has a fastening clip connected to the inner trim panel. The vehicle door is normally intended for a (non-rail-bound) motor vehicle such as a truck or car; however, uses for other vehicles are also conceivable, e.g., trailers without their own propulsion, rail vehicles, or even aircraft or watercraft.

[0018] As already mentioned, the door consists of an inner panel, a door module, and an inner trim panel. In a typical vehicle door design, the inner panel, together with an outer panel, can form part of a door frame. It is usually made of steel, although other materials such as...

[0019] Aluminum alloys or even non-metals such as fiber-reinforced plastic are conceivable. Therefore, the term "sheet metal" should not be interpreted restrictively to the requirement that the inner panel be made of metal. The door module is typically made of plastic, possibly fiber-reinforced plastic. When the door is installed, it is located on the side of the inner panel facing the vehicle interior and can, in particular, be directly attached to the inner panel. Its function can be twofold: firstly, to serve as a mounting for functional elements such as window regulators, locking mechanisms, speakers, electrical connections, or the like; secondly, it can partially supplement or replace the inner panel, such that the inner panel has recesses which are covered by the door module.Since the door module, together with the inner and outer panels, encloses the interior of the door frame, a watertight connection between the door module and the inner panel is desirable or even necessary. The interior trim is located on the side of the door module facing the vehicle interior and typically covers it completely. The function of the interior trim is twofold: firstly, to mechanically shield the door module and its associated functional elements from the vehicle interior, and secondly, to create an appealing look and feel for the door from the vehicle interior. The interior trim is usually made at least partially of plastic, and may have a coating or covering of fabric, leather, imitation leather, or other materials on the side facing the vehicle interior.

[0020] The inner panel, the door module, and the inner trim are connected to one another by a plurality of connecting arrangements. At least some of these connecting arrangements are preferably located at an outer edge of the inner trim or the door module. This serves, on the one hand, to create the smallest possible gap between the inner trim and the door module or the inner panel, and on the other hand, it makes it easier to ensure a watertight connection between the door module and the inner panel. It is also preferred that one connecting arrangement is located in a corner of the contour of the door module or the inner trim, and that further connecting arrangements are located in the area of a connecting line (i.e., as close as possible to it) between the corners.

[0021] Each connection arrangement includes a fastening clip that is connected to the inner panel. The connection can be positive-locking, friction-locking, and / or material-locking. In principle, a one-piece design of the fastening clip and the inner panel is also possible. Generally, the fastening clip can be described as a snap-fit element designed to create a snap-fit connection through elastic deformation. Otherwise, the design of the fastening clip is in no way restricted within the scope of the invention. However, it can be, in particular, a fastening clip of a known design, which is used in the prior art, for example, to connect an inner panel to a door module or an inner sheet metal panel.

[0022] As mentioned above, each connection assembly has a coupling element in which the fastening clip is engaged. This coupling element extends axially through openings in the inner sheet metal and the door module, connecting the inner sheet metal and the door module via an axial positive fit that can be released by rotating the coupling element. Thus, the coupling element of each connection assembly fulfills two functions. Firstly, it is the element with which the fastening clip creates the snap-fit connection. Secondly, it connects the door module to the inner sheet metal. For each connection assembly, a through-opening is provided both within the inner sheet metal and within the door module. The door module and the inner sheet metal are arranged relative to each other such that the respective through-openings are at least partially aligned. The coupling element is aligned with each other, with the coupling element passing through both openings. The direction along which the coupling element passes is hereinafter referred to as the axial direction, which implicitly also defines a radial direction and a tangential direction. At least in the vicinity of the respective openings, the axial direction normally runs perpendicular to a plane of extension of the door module and / or the inner panel.

[0023] The connection between the inner panel and the door module results from an axial positive fit, i.e., a positive fit in the axial direction, which the coupling element establishes with both the door module and the inner panel. This positive fit can optionally be indirect, i.e., achieved through at least one intermediate component. The positive fit can be supplemented by a frictional fit. In principle, supplementation by a material fit is also possible, although this is not preferred. The coupling element and the other components are designed such that the positive fit can be released by a rotational movement of the coupling element. This rotational movement occurs in a tangential direction or about an axially extending axis of rotation. This requires a combination of rotational movement with axial movement to completely release the connection, such that the rotational movement is combined with an axial movement component in the manner of a helix.

[0024] Since, during normal operation of the door or even in an accident, primarily axial forces act between the inner door panel and the door module, and not force couples that could cause a rotational movement of the coupling element, an unintentional or accidental loosening of the connection between the door module and the inner door panel is virtually impossible, or at most possible only by destroying the coupling element, the inner door panel, and / or the door module. This contrasts with, for example, a snap-fit connection, where loosening is often to be expected if a certain tensile force is exceeded. The connection of the door module to the inner door panel by means of the coupling element according to the invention is therefore very reliable overall. It is understood that during assembly of the vehicle door, this connection is made by means of a rotational movement.Since the release and establishment of the positive connection between the inner sheet metal, coupling element, and door module are based on a rotational movement of the coupling element, elastic deformation of the coupling element is not normally intended or necessary. It can therefore be designed to be inelastic, for example, made of metal, so that no or at most negligible elastic deformation of the coupling element occurs during door assembly and normal operation. This contrasts with the fastening clip, which is designed to allow for elastic deformation.

[0025] A particular advantage of the vehicle door according to the invention is that the connection between the inner panel and the door module – by means of the coupling element – and the connection to the interior trim – by means of the fastening clip and the coupling element – are located at the same point on the door. Therefore, there is no problem of the two connections needing to be offset from each other or potentially affecting each other adversely.

[0026] According to an embodiment not covered by the scope of the invention, the coupling element is connected to the inner sheet metal by a bayonet connection. The coupling element can have at least one radial projection which, in a specific tangential position of the coupling element, can pass through the door module and the inner sheet metal. However, by rotating it into another tangential position, it forms an axial positive fit with the inner sheet metal, such that it effectively engages behind the inner sheet metal. The former position can be referred to as the insertion position, while the latter position can be referred to as the locking position. The through-openings can have a contour that allows the coupling element to pass through in the insertion position.

[0027] As described above, the coupling element is connected to the inner sheet metal by a screw connection, the coupling element having an external thread that interacts with an internal thread on the inner sheet metal. Such an internal thread could be formed on the inner sheet metal itself. Alternatively, an additional component can be provided for this purpose, e.g., a weld nut welded to the inner sheet metal or a rivet nut attached to the inner sheet metal.

[0028] Regardless of how the coupling element is connected to the inner sheet metal, it is preferred that the coupling element has a radially projecting retaining section that rests against the door module and creates an axial positive fit with it. The retaining section can, in particular, be designed as an annular flange arranged circumferentially around the through-opening in the door module. While the retaining section prevents the coupling element from being inserted further into the through-opening than intended, it primarily serves to exert a force on the door module, pressing it axially against the inner sheet metal. The counterforce can be exerted on the inner sheet metal, for example, by the radial projection in the case of a bayonet connection not encompassed by the protective area, or by the two threads in the case of a screw connection.

[0029] Preferably, the coupling element has a sleeve section with an axially extending recess, wherein an elastically compressible locking section of the fastening clip is inserted into the recess through a tapered insertion opening and locked into place. The sleeve section can have at least a partially cylindrical wall that extends into the area of the through-holes and is formed within the recess. The recess serves to receive the locking section, which can be received, in particular, with radial play within the recess. The locking section, which, like the entire fastening clip, can be made of plastic, is elastically compressible, at least in the radial direction, i.e., squeezable, so that it can be guided through the insertion opening during assembly. This insertion opening is tapered compared to the rest of the recess, meaning it has a smaller cross-section. For example, the wall of the sleeve section can have an annular, radially inwardly directed flange section that defines the insertion opening. During assembly, the locking section is inserted through the insertion opening and compressed. After passing through the insertion opening, it can then expand radially again in the recess behind it, creating an axial positive fit between the fastening clip and the coupling element. In the case of a bayonet connection not covered by the protective area, a radial projection as described above can be formed on an outer side of the sleeve section. The same applies to an external thread in the case of a screw connection.

[0030] To facilitate the assembly and, if necessary, the disassembly of the door module, the coupling element features a coupling structure for a tool, enabling a tangential positive fit for rotating the coupling element. Such a coupling structure can be, for example, an internal or external polygon such as a square or hexagon, or any other non-rotationally symmetrical structure. In principle, any type of screw head drive can be used, so ideally, a tool used for tightening and loosening conventional screws can also be employed. The coupling structure can be located, for example, on the outside of the sleeve section or on the retaining section.

[0031] As mentioned above, the fastening clip can be formed integrally with the inner panel. In another embodiment, the fastening clip is manufactured separately. In this case, it can be inserted into a clip holder formed on the inner panel. Such a clip holder, also referred to as a "holder," "mount," "base," or "doghouse," is known in principle for attaching fastening clips. Such a clip holder typically has an undercut area into which, for example, a flange of the fastening clip can engage.

[0032] By positioning the locking section within the recess in the sleeve section, it is particularly possible for the locking section to be located at least partially within the passage openings. In other words, the locking section, as part of the mounting clip, can be positioned relatively far to the outside of the vehicle interior. This allows the coupling element to protrude comparatively little towards the vehicle interior relative to the door module. This can be advantageous because, in the event of a side impact, the coupling element is relatively incompressible, while the mounting clip and any clip holder mentioned above are considered highly compressible and thus contribute effectively to the crumple zone.

[0033] As mentioned above, it is desirable to protect the interior of the door frame, located between the inner and outer panels, from moisture ingress. Generally, a watertight connection of the inner panel is not feasible, so moisture is likely to enter the space between the inner panel and the door module. To prevent this moisture from penetrating the interior of the door frame, it is preferable to have a second sealing element positioned between the fastening clip and the coupling element. This second sealing element is typically made of rubber, silicone, or another suitable rubber-elastic material. It can be arranged in a ring around the insertion opening to prevent moisture from penetrating the interior of the sleeve section and subsequently the door frame. The second sealing element may also be designed as part of the fastening clip, but is usually made of a different material than, for example, the locking section mentioned above.

[0034] As mentioned above, a first sealing element is positioned between the door module and the inner panel. This first sealing element can also be made of any rubber-elastic material. Normally, this first sealing element is compressed by an axial contact force acting between the inner panel and the door module, which is generated by the coupling element. This compression further improves the sealing effect. The first sealing element is usually arranged at least around the perimeter of each opening. Alternatively, a single such sealing element could extend along the entire contour of the door module, thereby fulfilling a sealing function in all connection configurations.

[0035] Further advantageous details and effects of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to exemplary embodiments shown in the figures. Fig. 1 a sectional view of a detail of a vehicle door according to a first embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 2 a top view of a coupling element of the vehicle door Fig. 1; Fig. 3 a sectional view of a detail of a vehicle door according to a second embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 4 a top view of a coupling element of the vehicle door Fig. 3; Fig. 5 a sectional view of a detail of a vehicle door according to an embodiment not covered by the scope of the invention; and Fig. 6 a top view of a coupling element of the vehicle door Fig. 5.

[0036] In the different figures, identical parts are always provided with the same reference symbols, which is why they are usually only described once.

[0037] Fig. Figure 1 shows a sectional view of a detail of a vehicle door 1 according to the invention, e.g., for a passenger car. An inner sheet metal panel 2 made of steel is visible, which, together with an outer sheet metal panel (not shown), forms a door frame. On a side of the inner sheet metal panel 2 facing the vehicle interior, a door module 7 made of plastic is arranged, which serves, for example, to hold functional elements such as window regulators, loudspeakers, locking components, or other items. Furthermore, a coupling element 12 is visible, by which the door module 7 is connected to the inner sheet metal panel 2. The coupling element 12 extends with a cylinder-like sleeve section 13 along an axial direction A through two through-openings 3, 8, which are formed within the inner sheet metal panel 2 and the door module 7 and are aligned with each other. From the sleeve section 13, an annular retaining section 14 projects in a radial direction, which forms a positive locking connection with the door module 7 in axial direction A.

[0038] Furthermore, there is a positive connection in axial direction A between the coupling element 12 and the inner sheet metal 2, since an external thread 15 formed on the sleeve section 13 is screwed into an internal thread 6 of a weld nut 5, which in turn is welded to the inner sheet metal 2. Thus, the coupling element 12 is connected to the inner sheet metal 2 by a screw connection 29. It is understood that instead of the weld nut 5, for example, a rivet nut attached to the inner sheet metal 2 could also be used, or possibly even an internal thread formed directly on the inner sheet metal. During the assembly of the vehicle door 1, the coupling element 12 is screwed into the weld nut 5 with the external thread 15 until the retaining section 14 rests against the door module 7 as shown and, if necessary, a predetermined clamping force is generated between the door module 7 and the inner sheet metal 2.The screwing can be carried out using a ring wrench or the like, since the sleeve section 13 has an external hexagon 16 at an end facing the vehicle interior, as shown in the top view in . Fig. 2 is recognizable. Within the sleeve section 13, a recess 18 is formed, which adjoins a tapered insertion opening 19. The insertion opening 19 is formed within an annular end section 17 that projects radially inwards.

[0039] On one side of the door module 7 facing the vehicle interior, an interior trim panel 9 is also arranged, which is normally made of plastic and may optionally have a coating of plastic, leather or imitation leather for aesthetic or tactile purposes. Fig. Figure 1 shows only a clip holder 10 (so-called doghouse) molded onto the inner lining 9, into which a fastening clip 22 is inserted. The fastening clip 22 extends essentially in the axial direction A and is received in the clip holder 10 by a first flange section 23, while a second flange section 24 is arranged directly outside the clip holder 10. These two flange sections 23, 24 provide a bilateral axial positive fit between the clip holder 10 and the fastening clip 22. A third flange section 25 of the fastening clip 22 is arranged adjacent to the end section 17. The fastening clip 22 is arranged within the recess 18 by means of a detent section 26, such that it is at least partially located within the through-openings 3, 8. The detent section 26 is radially compressible, allowing it to be guided through the insertion opening 19.Within the recess 18, the locking section 26 can expand again, thereby creating an axial positive fit with the end section 17. This holds the fastening clip 22 on the coupling element 12, resulting in the fastening of the inner panel 9 to the door module 7 and the inner sheet metal 2. The fastening clip 22 and the coupling element 12 form parts of a connection arrangement 11. Overall, the inner sheet metal 2, the door module 7, and the inner panel 9 are connected to one another by a plurality of connection arrangements 11, which can be arranged along the outer contour of the door module 7 or the inner panel 9.

[0040] To prevent moisture from penetrating the space between the inner sheet 2 and the outer sheet, a first sealing element 28 is arranged between the door module 7 and the inner sheet 2, and a second sealing element 27 is arranged between the third flange section 25 of the fastening clip 22 and the end section 17. Both sealing elements 27, 28 are made of a rubber-elastic material, e.g., rubber or silicone.

[0041] Fig. 3 and Fig. Figure 4 shows a second embodiment of a vehicle door 1, which is largely the same as in Fig. 1 and Fig. The embodiment shown in Figure 2 corresponds to the embodiment shown and will not be explained again here. However, in this embodiment, the retaining section 14 and the end section 17 merge seamlessly and terminate at the same axial height. This is made possible by replacing the external hexagon 16 on the retaining section 14 with a clamping profile 20 with two holes, which can be operated with a corresponding clamping wrench. By omitting the external hexagon 16, the axial length of the coupling element 12 can be kept short.

[0042] Fig. 5 and Fig.Figure 6 shows an embodiment of a vehicle door 1 not covered by the scope of protection of the invention, which is again largely similar to the first embodiment. In this case, the retaining section 14 projects axially relative to the end section 17 and has a tensioning profile 20 with four slots. Furthermore, in this case, instead of a screw connection between the coupling element 12 and the inner sheet metal 2, a bayonet connection 30 is provided. For this purpose, the sleeve section 13 has a radial projection 21 which, as shown, engages behind the inner sheet metal 2.During assembly of the connecting arrangement 11, the coupling element 12 is first inserted in an insertion position rotated relative to the state shown here, in which the projection 21 is guided through a radial extension 31 of the through-opening 8 and through a radial extension 4 of the through-opening 3, and then brought into the locking position shown by a rotational movement. It is understood that the third embodiment could also be combined with features of the first or second embodiment, such that the external hexagon 16 or the clamping profile 20 with two holes is combined with a bayonet connection.
