Description

Technical area

[0001] The present invention relates to a strain relief device for strain relief of one or more cables of a high-voltage connector of a vehicle. State of the art

[0002] In high-voltage systems such as battery-electric vehicles or other vehicle types, high-voltage connectors are used to connect the vehicle battery to the charging infrastructure or the battery to the electric drive, among other things. Such high-voltage connectors are usually equipped with a seal and usually require protection of the seal against splash water and / or high-pressure cleaners, as well as strain relief for the cables. In the low-voltage range for unsealed systems, strain relief is common, which is attached either to the outer housing or to a second contact fuse. This is intended to prevent a reduction in contact coverage. Another solution is cable ties, which are attached to a special geometry of the cable. In another solution, the strain relief is realized via the cable shielding. Description of the invention

[0003] An object of the invention is therefore to provide a strain relief for a high-voltage connector of a vehicle, which protects the cables of the high-voltage connector against tensile stress.

[0004] The object is achieved by the subject matter of the independent claims. Advantageous developments of the invention are specified in the dependent claims, the description, and the accompanying figures.

[0005] The inventive solution is based on the idea of implementing strain relief for one or more cables of the connector using a component mounted on the connector in the open position and featuring a locking mechanism (such as a film hinge, lever mechanism, or slider mechanism). Actuating the locking mechanism clamps the corresponding cables with a seal. The seal is thus covered and protected from damage or destruction.

[0006] In particular, the inventive solution presents a strain relief for cables on a connector system with one or more cables and with optional delivery state with and without strain relief.

[0007] In one embodiment, the strain relief is divided into two components / halves and is realized by folding them together and secures the seal against slipping.

[0008] In another embodiment, the strain relief consists of two parts that are pre-assembled on the housing in the open position on a pivot. The individual parts of the strain relief feature a locking system that is connected by snap hooks when closed, preventing the strain relief from opening. Opening is achieved, for example, by the spring action of the snap hook, which is bent downward or sideways, thus releasing the lock.

[0009] Additional securing and positioning of the sealing caps can be achieved via a contour inside the housing.

[0010] The connector system can be delivered with or without strain relief, as the sealing caps can be attached separately to the connector housing using a clip. The sealing cap and seal can be implemented as a single, connected unit upon delivery.

[0011] The solution presented here is applicable to all connectors requiring strain relief, i.e., both high-voltage and low-voltage connectors. However, preferred embodiments relate specifically to high-voltage connectors, as shown below.

[0012] One embodiment of the invention presented here offers the advantage of reducing the number of work steps by combining the assembly of the strain relief using two components for multiple cables in a single step. This allows for simple, quick removal and reassembly of the strain relief using a rotating mechanism. This embodiment of the invention offers the advantage of tolerance compensation for cable diameters and secure clamping thanks to the locking system, as different locking positions are possible. In addition, a reduction in the number of components can be achieved in relation to the number of cables that must be equipped with strain relief. Furthermore, security against loss during disassembly can be guaranteed, as the components remain on the connector housing and do not have to be removed. This means that fewer components need to be delivered to the customer.

[0013] The inventive solution offers the advantage that fewer parts need to be pre-assembled onto the cable by the cable manufacturer. Protection against loss during assembly and disassembly is achieved, as the individual parts do not need to be removed and remain on the connector. The inventive solution offers extensive flexibility, as an optional delivery state with or without strain relief is possible. Furthermore, the assembly state (i.e., assembled or disassembled) can be visually identified. The clamping force can be adjusted using a snap-in lock.

[0014] Further advantages include the fact that the inventive solution presented here allows for a reduction in production steps, for example, by consolidating the assembly of the strain relief using a single component for multiple cables into a single step. This allows for a reduction in the number of components relative to the number of cables that need to be equipped with strain relief. The solution presented here offers security against component loss during disassembly, for example, during maintenance of the HV system. Furthermore, fewer components are required to be delivered to the customer.

[0015] According to a first aspect, the above-described object is achieved by a strain relief device for strain relief of one or more cables of a high-voltage connector of a vehicle, which comprises a connector housing with at least one chamber for inserting at least one respective cable, wherein the respective chamber has a respective chamber seal which seals the chamber from an external environment when cables are inserted, wherein the strain relief device comprises the following: at least one strain relief housing cover which is movable relative to the connector housing, wherein the at least one strain relief housing cover has an opening with a rib-shaped edge for each chamber; wherein closing the at least one strain relief housing cover when cables are inserted into the chamber causes the respective cable to be clamped by the rib-shaped edge of the respective openings and a covering of the chamber seal.

[0016] The technical advantage of this strain relief device is that it provides optimal strain relief for the high-voltage connector, protecting the high-voltage connector cables from tensile stress. Closing one or more strain relief housing covers clamps the corresponding cables with a chamber seal. This covers the chamber seal and protects it from damage or destruction. The strain relief is implemented here by one or more components / halves, namely the at least one strain relief housing cover. It is achieved by closing at least one strain relief housing cover, securing the chamber seal in a simple and efficient manner against slipping.

[0017] The cables are used to transport power and can be designed as stranded conductors or coaxial cables, for example. They can also be busbars, such as round or flat conductors, or various types of conductors combined into a bundle.

[0018] The high-voltage connector is suitable for transmitting currents and voltages in the high-voltage range, as they occur in electrically powered vehicles or battery-electric vehicles or other vehicle types, i.e. voltages in the range from 100 volts up to approximately 1000 volts or 2000 volts or even higher. Although the strain relief device is described here in connection with high-voltage connectors, it is also suitable for use with low-voltage connectors, i.e. connectors that are used in the voltage range below the above-described. These could be connectors for low-voltage vehicle batteries, such as the 12-volt battery. Even though the strain relief device is described here in connection with vehicles and vehicle systems, such a strain relief device can also be used in electrical systems outside of vehicle systems to ensure adequate strain relief for the electrical connector systems.

[0019] Each chamber has a chamber seal. However, multiple cables can pass through a single chamber seal. The strain relief housing covers are movable or, in a specific design, hinged. A slider solution or similar movements are also feasible. A strain relief housing is not absolutely necessary, as the strain relief housing covers can also be integrated into the connector housing, or the device can consist solely of the strain relief housing cover and be mounted on the housing. As described above, at least one strain relief housing cover is required, but the maximum number is unlimited.

[0020] The rib-shaped edge consists of at least one rib. The cable can be clamped by the at least one rib. For example, when closed, the rib is smaller than the outer dimensions of the cable sheath. The at least one rib can have different profiles. For example, the rib can be angular, such as triangular or trapezoidal. Likewise, the rib can be rounded, such as semicircular or circular segment-shaped. The rib penetrating the sheath creates a positive connection between the cable and the strain relief housing cover.

[0021] In a foldable version of the strain relief device, the connection can be realized via a bending point. In this version, the connection between the strain relief housing and the strain relief housing covers can be realized via a bending point. The bending point can be referred to as a film hinge. The bending point can have a significantly lower bending resistance than the rest of the component. The bending point can be bent together when the strain relief housing covers are folded over.

[0022] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, closing the at least one strain relief housing cover fixes the chamber seal to the respective cable and secures the chamber seal against slipping.

[0023] This offers the technical advantage that the chamber seal no longer slips and therefore no splash water, high-pressure cleaners or other harmful environmental influences can penetrate into the high-voltage connector, which could impair the function of the electrical system.

[0024] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the rib-shaped edge comprises one or more rib elements arranged one above the other.

[0025] This offers the technical advantage that the rib elements can efficiently press into the cable with their ribs, thus ensuring a firm hold on the cable and providing strain relief. With multiple rib elements arranged one above the other, the engagement force on the cable is increased because the engagement extends over a larger outer area of the cable, significantly improving the holding effect. Furthermore, with multiple rib elements arranged one above the other, the tightness of the arrangement is increased, as the cable may have unevenness on its outer surface, which can be compensated for by the rib elements when engaging at different points on the outer surface.

[0026] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the rib elements engage in the respective cable and fix it when the at least one strain relief housing cover is closed.

[0027] This offers the technical advantage that the rib elements fix the cable and efficiently protect it against tensile influences.

[0028] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the rib elements of the rib-shaped edge are shaped according to an outer contour of the respective cable.

[0029] This offers the technical advantage that the ribbed elements fit precisely to the outer contour of the cable, thus providing optimal strain relief thanks to their large surface area. Furthermore, the sealing effect is increased when the ribbed elements fit precisely to the outer contour of the cable.

[0030] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the rib elements of the rib-shaped edge are curved.

[0031] This offers the technical advantage that the ribbed elements fit snugly around a round cable, thus achieving the benefits described above. The ribbed elements constrict the cable, increasing the friction effect and thus ensuring a secure connection that can withstand even high tensile forces.

[0032] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the at least one strain relief housing cover comprises two strain relief housing covers that are arranged so as to be foldable relative to one another; and wherein openings of the two strain relief housing covers are designed as half-openings.

[0033] This offers the technical advantage that the two housing covers are easy to remove and the strain relief device is easy to close.

[0034] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the two strain relief housing covers are rotatably attached to the connector housing about a common axis.

[0035] This offers the technical advantage that the two housing covers can be easily attached to the connector housing.

[0036] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the strain relief device comprises a strain relief housing that can be mounted on the connector housing; wherein the two strain relief housing covers are attached to the strain relief housing so that they can be folded against each other.

[0037] This offers the technical advantage that the two housing covers can be closed simply by folding them over, thus enabling the strain relief device to function.

[0038] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the two strain relief housing covers touch each other along an inner side of the housing cover in the closed state, wherein the half-openings with the rib-shaped edge are arranged on the inner sides of the housing cover of the two strain relief housing covers.

[0039] This offers the technical advantage that when the two strain relief housing covers are closed, the cables are inserted into the respective half-openings of the strain relief housing covers and are pressed down by the ribbed edge of the half-openings and secured against displacement.

[0040] The two strain relief housing covers can be designed symmetrically so that the cables fit centrally into the half-openings of the strain relief housing covers and are thus optimally fitted into the strain relief device.

[0041] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the strain relief device comprises a closing mechanism which is designed to clamp the rib-shaped edge of the respective half-openings against the respective cables and to cover the respective chamber seal when the two strain relief housing covers are closed.

[0042] Such a locking mechanism offers the technical advantage of being simple in design and of efficiently implementing the effects of the strain relief device, i.e. clamping the cable using the ribbed edge to prevent the cable from slipping and thus being relieved of tension, and covering the chamber seal against splash water, high-pressure cleaners and other harmful environmental influences that can lead to aging of the cable or the entire electrical system.

[0043] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the strain relief device has a hinge attached to the strain relief housing for each strain relief housing cover, which hinge fastens the respective strain relief housing cover to the strain relief housing in an opening and closing manner.

[0044] Such a hinge offers the technical advantage of being easily attached to the strain relief device and providing a simple and efficient locking mechanism. For example, the hinge can be manufactured as a film hinge, and the strain relief device can be easily manufactured with the film hinge using an injection molding process, e.g., two-component injection molding.

[0045] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the strain relief device comprises at least one latching hook which is designed to latch the closed strain relief housing covers together.

[0046] Such a locking hook offers the technical advantage that the two strain relief housing covers can be easily closed when closed. By actuating the locking hook again, both strain relief housing covers can be easily opened and opened again, e.g., for maintenance work.

[0047] According to an exemplary embodiment of the strain relief device, the strain relief device can be manufactured in the 2K injection molding process as a two-component (2K) injection-molded component.

[0048] This offers the technical advantage of a simple, fast and cost-effective, i.e. low-effort, manufacture of the strain relief device.

[0049] According to a second aspect, the above-described object is achieved by a connector system comprising: a connector housing having at least one chamber for inserting at least one respective cable, wherein the respective chamber has a respective chamber seal which seals the chamber from an external environment when the cables are inserted; and a locking device for locking the cables inserted into the chamber, wherein the locking device comprises a strain relief device according to the first aspect and / or a round clip is provided for each inserted cable, which fastens the respective chamber seal to the connector housing.

[0050] This offers the technical advantage of a flexible design of the connector system. It can either be designed with the strain relief device according to the first aspect or be provided with a round clip, or even both, i.e., comprise a strain relief device and a round clip.

[0051] According to a third aspect, the above-described object is achieved by a strain relief system comprising a high-voltage connector of a vehicle with one or more cables; and a strain relief device for strain relief of one or more cables of the high-voltage connector, wherein the high-voltage connector comprises a connector housing with at least one chamber for inserting at least one respective cable, wherein the respective chamber has a respective chamber seal which seals the chamber from an external environment when cables are inserted; and wherein the strain relief device comprises the following: at least one strain relief housing cover which is movable relative to the connector housing, wherein the at least one strain relief housing cover has an opening with a rib-shaped edge per chamber;wherein closing the at least one strain relief housing cover when cables are inserted into the chamber causes the respective cable to be clamped by the rib-shaped edge of the respective openings and a covering of the chamber seal;

[0052] Such a strain relief system offers the same advantages as the strain relief device described above. While the strain relief device can be mounted on the high-voltage connector, the strain relief system comprises both components—i.e., the strain relief device and the high-voltage connector—and is already pre-assembled, i.e., as an assembly. Thus, the strain relief device can already be pre-assembled on the high-voltage connector, or this system can be a high-voltage connector with strain relief. Short character description

[0057] Fig. 1 shows a 3D representation of a strain relief device 100 according to the invention according to a first embodiment in the unfolded state without inserted cables.

[0058] In Fig. 1 shows the strain relief device 100 using the example of a high-voltage connector 200 with four chambers 211, 212, 213, 214 with strain relief housing 110 and two strain relief housing covers 120, 130, and a chamber seal 221, 222, 223, 224 provided for each chamber. The figure shows the chamber seal 221, 222, 223, 224 in the assembled state and the strain relief including seal holder 140 in the open state.

[0059] The strain relief device 100 serves to provide strain relief for one or more cables 201, 202, 203, 204 of a high-voltage connector 200 of a vehicle, such as a battery-electric vehicle, but can also be used for other high-voltage or low-voltage systems.

[0060] Such a high-voltage connector 200 comprises a connector housing 210 with at least one chamber 211, 212, 213, 214 for inserting a respective cable 201, 202, 203, 204. In Fig. Figure 1 shows an exemplary embodiment with four chambers 211, 212, 213, 214, wherein a corresponding cable can be inserted into each chamber and electrically contacted. It is understood that other embodiments not shown here are also feasible, in which the connector housing 210, for example, has only one chamber for inserting a single cable or a different number of chambers for inserting corresponding cables.

[0061] The respective chamber 211, 212, 213, 214 has a chamber seal 221, 222, 223, 224, which seals the chamber 211, 212, 213, 214 from an external environment when the cable 201, 202, 203, 204 is inserted.

[0062] The strain relief device 100 comprises a strain relief housing 110 that can be mounted on the connector housing 210; and two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 that are attached to the strain relief housing (110) so that they can be folded against each other.

[0063] Each strain relief housing cover 120, 130 has a half-opening 121-124, 131-134 with a ribbed edge 140 for each chamber 211, 212, 213, 214. In the illustration of the Fig. 1, therefore, with four chambers 211, 212, 213, 214, twice four, i.e. eight half-openings 121-124, 131-134 are provided.

[0064] Closing the two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 when the cable 201, 202, 203, 204 is inserted into the chamber 211, 212, 213, 214 causes the respective cable 201, 202, 203, 204 to be clamped by the rib-shaped edge 140 of the respective half-openings 121-124, 131-134 and to cover the chamber seal 221, 222, 223, 224.

[0065] Closing the two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 fixes the chamber seal 221, 222, 223, 224 to the respective cable 201, 202, 203, 204 and secures it against slipping.

[0066] The rib-shaped edge 140 may, for example, comprise one or more rib elements 141 arranged one above the other. In the illustration of the Fig. 1, three such rib elements 141 are arranged one above the other. It is understood that in other embodiments, a different number of such rib elements 141 can be realized. For example, a strain relief device 100 with a single rib element 141 per chamber can also be realized, or a strain relief device 100 with a different number of rib elements 141 arranged one above the other per chamber.

[0067] The rib elements 141 can, for example, be made of a soft plastic component which is more elastic than a hard plastic component from which the two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 and / or the strain relief housing 110 can be made.

[0068] The rib elements 141 are designed such that when the two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 are closed, they engage in the respective cable 201, 202, 203, 204 and fix it in the chamber.

[0069] The rib elements 141 of the rib-shaped edge 140 can be shaped according to an outer contour of the respective cable 201, 202, 203, 204. For example, the rib elements can comprise circular sections that correspond to the circular outer contour of a round conductor, such as a coaxial cable, in order to optimally engage the cable and secure it against slipping and seal it against splash water and / or high-pressure cleaners.

[0070] Alternatively, the rib elements 141 of the rib-shaped edge 140 can simulate an outer contour of a flat conductor or a rectangular conductor in order to best hold this type of cable and relieve it from tension.

[0071] For example, the rib elements 141 of the rib-shaped edge 140 can be curved, round or oval.

[0072] The two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 can, for example, touch each other along an inner side 125, 126 of the housing cover when closed, or at least partially touch each other, or even just face each other. Fig. 2, for example, shows how the two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 touch each other along the housing cover inner sides 125, 126 when closed.

[0073] The half-openings 121-124, 131-134 with the rib-shaped edge 140 can be arranged on the housing cover inner sides 125, 126 of the two strain relief housing covers 120, 130, as in Fig. 1 shown.

[0074] The strain relief device 100 has a closing mechanism which is designed to clamp the rib-shaped edge 140 of the respective half-openings 121-124, 131-134 against the respective cables and to cover the respective chamber seal 221, 222, 223, 224 when the two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 are closed.

[0075] Such a locking mechanism may, for example, comprise a film hinge, as in Fig. 1, or alternatively a lever mechanism or a sliding mechanism, as not shown in detail here.

[0076] As in Fig. 1, the strain relief device 100 may have a hinge 151, 152 attached to the strain relief housing 110 for each strain relief housing cover 120, 130, which hinge fastens the respective strain relief housing cover 120, 130 to the strain relief housing 110 in an opening and closing manner.

[0077] The strain relief device may further comprise one or more locking hooks 161, 162, which are designed to lock the closed strain relief housing covers 120, 130 together. Fig. Figure 1 shows an exemplary number of two locking hooks 161, 162, which laterally lock the two strain relief housing covers 120, 130 together. It is understood that a different number of locking hooks may also be present, for example, even just one such locking hook.

[0078] Fig. 2 shows a 3D representation of the strain relief device 100 according to the invention in the closed state with inserted cables.

[0079] In Fig. 2 shows the strain relief device 100 in the closed state from the outside with inserted cables 201, 202, 203, 204, again using the example of a high-voltage connector 200 with four chambers 211, 212, 213, 214, which, however, in the closed state, Fig. 2 are not visible. The chamber seals 221, 222, 223, 224 are no longer accessible with a high-pressure cleaner.

[0080] As already mentioned Fig. As described in Figure 1, the strain relief device 100 serves to provide strain relief for one or more cables 201, 202, 203, 204 of a high-voltage connector 200, although this does not necessarily have to be a high-voltage connector. It can also be used for other connector types that have a seal to seal the chamber against the outside environment when the cable is inserted.

[0081] The high-voltage connector 200 is shown in the lower part of the figure. It comprises a connector housing 210 with at least one chamber 211, 212, 213, 214 for inserting a respective cable 201, 202, 203, 204. Fig. 2 shows how a corresponding cable 201, 202, 203, 204 is inserted into each of the four chambers 211, 212, 213, 214. However, the four chambers are in the Fig. 2 shown closed state cannot be seen from the outside.

[0082] For example, the first cable 201 is a conductor L1 of a three-phase system, the second cable 202 is a conductor L2 of the three-phase system, the third cable 203 is a conductor L3 of the three-phase system and the fourth cable 204 is a neutral conductor N of the three-phase system.
