AI Technical Summary
Existing motor vehicles, particularly those capable of autonomous or semi-autonomous driving, lack the ability to efficiently select a parking space based on the driver's viewing direction, leading to suboptimal parking experiences and potential safety concerns during the transition of control from automated systems to manual driving.
An electronic computing device in the vehicle determines the driver's viewing direction using a driver detection camera, allowing the vehicle to search for and select a parking space that aligns with the driver's gaze, enabling semi- or fully automated parking based on the driver's preferences and gaze direction.
This solution enhances the convenience and safety of parking by allowing the vehicle to adapt its parking behavior to the driver's intentions, reducing the need for manual intervention and improving the transition of control during parking.

Abstract
Claims
[1] Method for selecting a parking space into which a motor vehicle (1) is to be parked at least partially automatically, in which by means of an electronic computing device - it is determined that the motor vehicle (1) is in a parking space search situation (V1), - a viewing direction (3) of the driver (2) is determined (V2) on the basis of at least one image depicting a driver (2) of the motor vehicle (1) captured by a driver detection camera, - depending on the determined viewing direction (3) of the driver (2), at least one parking space is searched for (V3), - a found parking space is specified as the target parking space for the motor vehicle (1) (V4), and - is triggered so that the motor vehicle (1) is parked at least partially automatically in the target parking space (V5). [2] Method according to claim 1, wherein, on the basis of environmental data detected by means of an environmental sensor device of the motor vehicle (1), at least one parking space is searched for (V3) in an environmental area associated with the determined viewing direction (3) of the driver (2), and one is selected as the target parking space from parking spaces determined in the environmental area as a function of the determined viewing direction (3) (V4). [3] Method according to claim 2, wherein, if several parking spaces are determined in the surrounding area, the motor vehicle (1) is moved towards at least one of the determined parking spaces until the determined viewing direction (3) can be clearly assigned to at least one of the parking spaces, which is then defined as the target parking space (V4). [4] Method according to one of the preceding claims, wherein it is determined that the motor vehicle (1) is in the parking space search situation when it is determined on the basis of position data characterizing a position of the motor vehicle (1) that the motor vehicle (1) is in a target area of a route guidance set in a navigation device (V1). [5] Method according to one of the preceding claims, wherein the motor vehicle (1) is parked into the target parking space at least in a highly automated manner (V5). [6] Method according to one of the preceding claims, wherein a parking space is selected as the target parking space if it has been determined that a gaze of the driver (2) having the viewing direction (3) is directed towards this parking space at least for a predetermined period of time, which is in particular 3 seconds (V4). [7] Method according to one of the preceding claims, wherein, if it is determined on the basis of the determined line of sight (3) of the driver (2) that the driver (2) has not directed his gaze into the surroundings of the motor vehicle (1), at least one parking space is searched for (V3) within a predetermined distance from the motor vehicle (1) and a found parking space is specified as the target parking space (V4). [8] Method according to one of the preceding claims, wherein the viewing direction (3) is determined (V2) as a function of an eye position of the driver's eyes (2) and / or eye movement of the driver's eyes (2) determined on the basis of the at least one image. [9] Electronic computing device which is arranged to carry out a method according to one of the preceding claims. [10] Motor vehicle (1) with an electronic computing device according to claim 9 and with at least one driver detection camera which is designed to capture images representing a driver (2) of the motor vehicle (1) and to provide captured images for the electronic computing device, wherein the motor vehicle (1) is designed to be parked at least partially automatically in a predetermined target parking space.
