Abstract

The invention relates to a method for operating an electrolysis system with multiple stacks, each stack comprising a plurality of individual cells in a stacked arrangement, each individual cell having an anode and a cathode separated by a membrane. According to the invention, by setting a lower power threshold (Pmid,low) and an upper power threshold (Pmid,high), a medium power range is defined in which the aging rate (AR) of the membranes reaches a maximum, and to reduce membrane aging, the available electrical power (P) is distributed among one or more stacks in such a way that operation of a single stack in the medium power range is avoided. The invention further relates to a control unit for executing steps of the method according to the invention.
