Cross-reference to related application(s)
[0001] This application claims the benefit of Korean Patent Application No. 10-2024-0097397, filed on July 23, 2024, in the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the entire disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference for all purposes. Background1. Area
[0002] The disclosure relates to a self-aligning connector and, more particularly, to a self-aligning connector that facilitates coupling and uncoupling between connectors. 2. Description of the state of the art
[0003] In general, a connector is a device that electrically connects a power source and a device, a device and a device, and internal units of a device. This connector comprises a pair of matable connectors, namely a male connector and a female connector. Terminals for transmitting power and signals are provided in the male connector and the female connector.
[0004] A conventional connector assembly has limitations in how efficiency and functionality can be significantly improved because an operator must visually or tactilely inspect it before connecting.
[0005] In addition, the conventional connector assembly suffers from stress concentration at a certain position of a positioning correction arm during an operation of connecting the plug connector and the socket connector.
[0006] If stress is concentrated at a certain point of the position correction arm during the connection between the male connector and the female connector, it may reduce the strength of a corresponding section and, in the worst case, cause cracks or damage. Summary
[0007] This summary is provided to introduce, in simplified form, a selection of concepts that are further explained below in the detailed description. This summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be an aid in determining the scope of the claimed subject matter.

[0041] Fig. 1 is a diagram showing a self-aligning connector according to embodiments. Fig. 2 is an exploded view showing the self-aligning connector according to embodiments.
[0042] More precisely, Fig. 1 is a diagram showing a state in which a second connector 200 is connected to a first connector 100.
[0043] One in Fig. The self-aligning connector 1000 shown in Figure 2 corresponds to a Fig. 1 self-aligning connector 1000 shown.
[0044] The self-aligning connector 1000 according to the embodiments will be described below considering that a left-right direction is an x-axis direction, an up-down direction is a y-axis direction, and a forward or backward direction is a z-axis direction.
[0045] With reference to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, the self-aligning connector 1000 according to the embodiments may include the first connector 100 and the second connector 200.
[0046] The self-aligning connector 1000 may correspond to a connector installed in a vehicle lamp assembly or the like and transmitting power and signals. That is, the first connector 100 may be installed on the side of a vehicle lamp lens (not shown) and correspond to a male connector type. Alternatively, the second connector 200 may be installed on the side of a vehicle lamp housing (not shown) and correspond to a female connector type.
[0047] The first connector 100 may include a housing 110 forming its exterior and a pin terminal 101 installed within the housing 110. A locking device 102 may be provided within the housing 110 to prevent the pin terminal 101 from falling out after installation.
[0048] Similar to the first connector 100, the second connector 200 may include a housing 210 forming its exterior and a female terminal 201 installed within the housing 210. Similarly, a locking device 202 may be provided within the housing 210 to prevent the female terminal 201 from falling out after installation.
[0049] That is, the first connector 100 and the second connector 200 can be fixed to each other by inserting the pin terminal 101 into the socket terminal 201. To prevent deformation of the pin terminal 101 that occurs when the pin terminal 101 is inserted into the socket terminal 201, the housing 110 of the first connector 100 may include a plate 103. The plate 103 may be formed in a plate shape with a certain strength to prevent deformation of the pin terminal 101 that occurs when the pin terminal 101 is inserted into the socket terminal 201. Furthermore, the plate 103 may be formed such that a protruding portion of the pin terminal 101 passes through it and an insertion portion of the socket terminal 201 does not pass through it.
[0050] A conventional connector assembly has a problem in that a first connector and a second connector are not properly connected due to an incorrect fastening position or the like during fastening between the connectors. Furthermore, the conventional connector assembly suffers from cracks or breakages due to stress applied to the first connector or the second connector during fastening between the connectors.
[0051] Therefore, the self-aligning connector 1000 according to the embodiments is effective in that the first connector 100 is provided with a position correction guide 130 and a prevention guide 140 to solve the above-mentioned problem. The first connector 100 will be described in more detail below.
[0052] Fig. 3 to 5 are diagrams illustrating the first connector in the self-aligning connector according to the embodiments. Fig. 6 is a diagram illustrating the prevention guide of the first connector in the self-aligning connector according to the embodiments.
[0053] With reference to Fig. 3 to 5, the first connector 100 in the self-aligning connector 1000 according to the embodiments may include the housing 110, a receiving space 120, the position correction guide 130, the prevention guide 140, and a fixing guide 150.
[0054] The housing 110, which is adapted to form the outside of the first connector 100, as shown in the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, can accommodate the pin terminal 101 therein. A mounting portion 111 can be formed on the back of the housing 110. The first connector 100 can be attached to the vehicle lamp lens (not shown) by the mounting portion 111.
[0055] The receiving space 120 may be formed within the housing 110 and may receive the second connector 200 in a first direction. That is, the receiving space 120 may receive the second connector 200 inserted in the first direction (-z-axis direction). The second connector 200 may be inserted in the first direction and received in the receiving space 120. Specifically, when the second connector 200 is received in the receiving space 120, the pin terminal 101 provided in the first connector 200 may be secured to the socket terminal 201 provided in the second connector 200.
[0056] Position correction guides 130 may be formed on both sides of the housing 110, extend in the first direction, and be provided in pairs. That is, one position correction guide 130 may be formed on each side of the housing 110.
[0057] Each of the position correction guides 130 may include a first curved portion 131, a second curved portion 132, an extension portion 133, and a slot 134.
[0058] The first curved portions 131 may be formed such that one end thereof touches both sides of the housing 110 and the other end thereof is bent in the first direction. That is, the first curved portions 131 may be formed such that they extend from the housing 110 and are bent toward the rear of the housing 110.
[0059] The second curved portions 132 may be formed such that one end thereof meets the other end of the first curved portion 131, and the other end thereof meets the back of the housing 110. Furthermore, the second curved portions 132 may be formed in an S shape. That is, the second curved portions 132 may be extended from the other end of the first curved portions 131 and bent into an S shape to meet the back of the housing 110.
[0060] With reference to Fig. 3 and Fig. 4, the second curved portions 132 may preferably be bent first in the forward direction of the housing 110 (in the +z-axis direction) and then in the backward direction of the housing 110 (in the -z-axis direction).
[0061] The extension portions 133 may be formed to protrude from the first curved portions 131 toward both sides of the housing 110. That is, the extension portions 133 may extend from the centers of the first curved portions 131 and protrude and extend toward both sides of the housing 110 (in the +x-axis and -x-axis directions).
[0062] Furthermore, the extension portions 133 may be formed to be inclined in the forward direction of the housing 110. Furthermore, the extension portions 133 may be formed to be spaced apart from the second curved portions 132.
[0063] The slots 134 may be formed to extend from the first curved portions 131 to the second curved portions 132.
[0064] The position correction guides 130 can correct a fastening position of the second connector 200 when the second connector 200 and the first connector 100 are fastened to each other, and can simultaneously distribute a load generated in the first connector 100. In particular, the extensions 133 of the position correction guides 130 can prevent movement of the housing 110 in the forward / backward direction (+ / - z-axis direction). A detailed description thereof will be given with reference to Fig. 7 to 9.
[0065] The prevention guide 140 may be formed on the rear side of the housing 110 and extend in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. That is, the prevention guide 140 may be formed on the rear side of the housing 110 and have a plate shape that extends long in the left-right direction of the first connector 100 (in the + / - x-axis direction).
[0066] With reference to Fig. 5, the prevention guide 140 may be formed as a pair. More specifically, the prevention guide 140 may include an upper prevention guide 141 formed spaced from an upper end of the housing 110 and a lower prevention guide 142 formed spaced from a lower end of the housing 110.
[0067] In particular, the prevention guide 140 may abut the fixing portion 111 disposed at the rear of the housing 110. That is, the prevention guide 140 may be disposed away from the housing 110 and abut the fixing portion 111 configured to extend to the rear of the housing 110.
[0068] A tension of the upper prevention guide 141 can be greater than a tension of the lower prevention guide 142. That is, the tension of the upper prevention guide 141 can be greater than the tension of the lower prevention guide 142.
[0069] Since the prevention guide 140 is formed to be spaced apart from the top or bottom of the housing 110, excessive twisting occurring in the first connector 100 during attachment between the second connector 200 and the first connector 100 can be prevented. That is, as shown in Fig. 6, when the second connector 200 and the first connector 100 are fastened, a twisting phenomenon may occur in a neck portion of the first connector 100, which may result in excessive movement of the housing 110 of the first connector 100 in the up-down direction (+ / - y-axis direction).
[0070] Therefore, in the self-aligning connector 1000, according to embodiments, the prevention guide 140 may be spaced from the top and bottom of the housing 110, thereby allowing some degree of vertical movement of the housing 110, but preventing excessive vertical movement of the housing 110.
[0071] The mounting guide 150 may be formed on the front side of the housing 110 and have a width that increases in the forward direction. More specifically, as shown in Fig. 3, four fastening guides 150 may be formed at respective corners forming front end surfaces of the housing 110. Each of the fastening guides 150 may have an angular shape bent along a corner of a front end surface of the housing 110 and an inner wall in a conical shape tapered toward the receiving space 120.
[0072] Since the fastening guides 150 are formed in a shape with their inner walls tapered toward the receiving space 120, a coupling / fastening direction can be corrected by the fastening guides 150 even if a coupling / fastening direction of the first connector 100 and the second connector 200 is slightly misaligned. Specifically, since the fastening guides 150 are formed in an angular shape, the coupling direction of the first connector 100 and the second connector 200 can be corrected up and down and left and right.
[0073] Fig. 7 to 9 are diagrams illustrating an example of attachment of the second connector to the first connector in the self-aligning connector according to embodiments.
[0074] More precisely, Fig. 7 shows a state in which the second connector 200 is attached to the first connector 100 at an incorrect attachment position, Fig. Fig. 8 shows a state in which the left and right sides of the second connector 200 are corrected by the position correction guides 130, and Fig. 9 shows a state in which the front and back of the second connector 200 are corrected by the position correction guides 130 and the prevention guide 140.
[0075] Firstly, as in Fig. 7, when fastening the second connector 200 and the first connector 100, the second connector 200 may be inserted into the first connector 100 at an incorrect fastening position.
[0076] As stated with reference to the Fig. As described in Figures 3 to 5, when the second connector 200 moves in a coupling direction with the first connector 100, it can come into contact with the fastening guides 150 formed on the front side of the housing 110. The second connector 200, in contact with the fastening guides 150, can move to the left along the inner walls of the fastening guides 150, and the coupling direction can be corrected.
[0077] In particular, it may be preferable for the mounting guides 150 to have a square cross-section and include four walls. Therefore, the second connector 200 can move up / down / left / right along the inner walls of the mounting guides 150 regardless of the coupling direction of the second connector 200, and the coupling direction can be corrected.
[0078] Even if the coupling direction is wrong, the coupling direction of the second connector 200 can be corrected by the fixing guides 150, and consequently, the second connector 200 can be fixed to the first connector 100 as shown in the Fig. 8 and Fig. 9 shown.
[0079] With reference to Fig. 8, the position of the second connector 200 can be automatically corrected by the position correction guides 130 even when the coupling direction of the second connector 200 with respect to left and right is different from an original fastening direction.
[0080] That is, when the second connector 200 is received in the receiving space 120 along the fixing guides 150, the position of the second connector 200 can be automatically corrected by a spring bias structure of the position correction guides 130 and a spring bias structure of the prevention guide 140.
[0081] Furthermore, when a load is applied to the first connector 100 in the first direction due to movement of the second connector 200 in the first direction, the extended portions 133 of the position correction guides 130 can prevent the movement of the second curved portions 132 of the position correction guides 130 in the forward and backward directions. The position correction guides 130 can correct up to a fastening direction that differs by 6 mm to the left and right from the original fastening direction.
[0082] With reference to Fig. 9, the position of the second connector 200 can be automatically corrected by the position correction guides 130 and the prevention guide 140 even if the coupling direction of the second connector 200 deviates from the original fastening direction with respect to front and rear.
[0083] That is, when the second connector 200 is received along the fixing guides 150 in the receiving space 120, the position of the second connector 200 can be automatically corrected by the spring tension structure of the position correction guides 130 and the spring tension structure of the prevention guide 140.
[0084] When a load in the up-down direction (+ / - y-axis direction) is applied to the first connector 100 corresponding to the forward and backward movement of the second connector 200, the prevention guide 140 can prevent the movement of the first connector 100 in the up-down direction. The prevention guide 140 and the position correction guides 130 can correct a fastening direction that deviates from the original fastening direction by up to 6 mm in terms of front and rear.
[0085] Therefore, the self-aligning connector 1000 according to embodiments has the effect of automatically correcting the position of the second connector 200 even if the second connector 200 is attached in an incorrect coupling direction, regardless of the left / right / up / down direction.
[0086] Fig. 10 and Fig. 11 are diagrams illustrating the second connector in the self-aligning connector according to embodiments.
[0087] With reference to Fig. 10 and Fig. 11, the second connector 200 in the self-aligning connector 1000 may include the housing 210, a projection 220, and a position correction guide 230 according to embodiments.
[0088] The housing 210, which is arranged to form the exterior of the second connector 200, as described with reference to the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, can accommodate the female terminal 201 therein. A mounting portion 211 can be formed on the rear side of the housing 110. The second connector 200 can be installed through the mounting portion 211 on the side of the vehicle lamp housing (not shown).
[0089] The protrusion 220 may be formed to protrude from a front end of the housing 210, and a mounting space 221 may be formed in which a female terminal 201 is mounted. That is, the protrusion 220 may have the female terminal 201 provided therein, and the protrusion 220 may be inserted into the receiving space 120 of the first connector 100. More specifically, when the protrusion 220 is received in the receiving space 120, the male terminal 101 of the first connector 200 can be fixed to the female terminal 201 of the second connector 200.
[0090] Position correction guides 230 may be formed on both sides of the housing 210 and extend in a direction opposite to the first direction. The position correction guides 230 may be formed in pairs. That is, one position correction guide 230 may be formed on each side of the housing 210.
[0091] Each of the position correction guides 230 may include an extension portion 231 and a bent portion 232.
[0092] The extension portions 231 may be formed such that one end thereof contacts both sides of the housing 210 and the other end thereof extends in the first direction. That is, the extension portions 231 may be formed such that they extend from the housing 210 in the forward direction of the housing 210.
[0093] The bent portions 232 may be formed such that one end thereof meets the other end of the extension 231, and the other end thereof meets the rear side of the housing 210. That is, the bent portions 232 may be formed such that they extend from the extension portions 231 and are bent toward the rear side of the housing 210.
[0094] In particular, the bent portions 232 may meet the mounting portion 211 located at the rear of the housing 210. That is, the bent portions 232 may be formed to be bent toward the rear of the housing 210 and meet the mounting portion 211, which is formed to extend to the rear of the housing 210.
[0095] In addition, the extension portions 231 and the bent portions 232 may be formed in pairs. That is, as shown in Fig. 10, a pair of an extension portion 231 and a bent portion 232 may be formed on an upper surface of the housing 210 and a lower surface of the housing 210, respectively.
[0096] The detailed description of the preferred embodiments of the disclosure described above has been provided to enable those skilled in the art to implement and practice the disclosure. While the disclosure has been described above with reference to preferred embodiments thereof, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations may be made to the disclosure without departing from the scope of the disclosure.
