[0001] Large pumps are used in disaster relief and firefighting. The standard suction strainers supplied by the manufacturers have openings on all sides to provide the largest possible suction area. This means that a great water depth is required to prevent air from being drawn in.

[0002] Shallow suction is not possible with these suction baskets. During heavy rainfall, large areas are often flooded, but the water is not particularly deep. Recesses for inserting simple suction baskets are often either not present or not visible.
