AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing ATM protection methods against gas explosions often cause significant damage to the ATM or its contents, and there is a need for a solution that prevents explosions while maintaining access integrity.

Method used

The ATM is designed with permanently open openings in the housing, equipped with a grid and/or lamellar structure, and includes a gas removal system using a pump or fan to prevent gas accumulation and unauthorized access.

Benefits of technology

Prevents gas explosions by dissipating gas through open openings and actively removing it, thereby protecting the ATM and its contents without causing damage.

Description

[0001] The invention relates to an ATM with a housing.

[0002] ATMs are frequently targeted in gas explosions. Numerous attempts have been made to prevent such attacks or minimize their consequences, for example, by dyeing banknotes to render them unusable. Other solutions involve restricting the ATM's internal volume with filler material to such an extent that a sufficient amount of gas cannot be introduced into the casing to cause an explosion. Further solutions include flooding the casing with an inert gas or incorporating predetermined breaking points that will rupture when the interior is pressurized.

[0003] Many of these solutions have in common that they can cause significant damage to the ATM or the money.

[0004] The invention attempts to counteract this by providing, in an ATM with a housing according to claim 1, that a gas introduced for an explosion escapes through permanently open openings in the housing, e.g. into a sufficiently dimensioned free space, so that the gas concentration necessary for an explosion is not reached.

[0005] To prevent access to the interior of the housing through the open openings, the openings are further designed to have a grid and / or lamellar structure. This prevents any unauthorized access to the interior of the housing.

[0006] In a further embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the gas is actively removed, for example by a pump or fan system, similar to a range hood.

[0007] In addition to such active gas removal, which requires appropriate sensors, the possibility is also being considered that the gas is removed by a venting device, for example by the suction of a chimney.

[0008] The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, which only schematically shows an embodiment in a side view.

[0009] The ATM 1 has a housing 2 in whose side wall 3 two different permanently open openings 4, 5 are provided as examples. Opening 4 has a grid structure 6, while opening 5 has a lamellar design.

[0010] Alternatively or additionally, in the embodiment of the ATM 1, a suction device 7 is arranged on the upper side, which is activated by a sensor and uses a fan or pump to extract the gas introduced into the ATM 1.
