Description

[0001] The invention relates to an electric grill comprising a housing part and an electric control and heating unit held on the housing part in the use position, having at least one electric heating element that, when the control and heating unit is connected to the housing part, spans at least a surface portion of the interior of the housing part, and having an operating unit. Furthermore, an electric control and heating unit is described, having at least one heating element extending over a surface portion, and having an operating unit, which control and heating unit is provided for completing a grill with a housing part.

[0002] In addition to gas grills or those powered by charcoal, electric grills are also widely used. The heat source is one or more tubular heaters extending across the surface to be heated. At least one heating element is arranged within a tub. The upper end of the tub is a grate or cooking plate that provides the cooking surface. The heating element(s) are connected to a control unit, which supplies the heating element(s) with power. For this purpose, the control unit houses the corresponding electrical components, such as temperature controllers, temperature sensors, or the like. A power cable is also connected to the control unit.

[0003] In addition to electric grills in which the control and heating unit formed from the heating element(s) and the associated operating unit are non-detachably installed in the housing part, at least for normal use, electric grills have also become known in which the control and heating unit can be removed from the housing part. This facilitates cleaning of the housing part as well as a tray carried by the housing part and also possible cleaning of the heating element(s). Such an electric grill is known from EP 2 433 530 A1. The frame-like housing part has a recess in its front, operator-side frame section to hold the control and heating unit. The width of this receptacle corresponds to the width of the operating unit, which, when inserted into the receptacle of the frame part, rests with its underside on the bottom of the receptacle. The control unit and with it the entire control and heating device are held in place by a corresponding fit between the holder and the housing of the control unit.

[0004] DE 306 03 352 T2 describes a control and heating unit in connection with an electric grill. The operating element of this previously known control and heating unit has a suspension hook on its rear side facing the housing part, which is to be hooked into a positioning opening on the outside of a side wall of the housing part in order to attach the control and heating unit to the housing part. A safety device, which is mechanically connected to a temperature controller, ensures that the temperature controller can only be operated when the control and heating unit is connected to the housing part as intended. Furthermore, the safety device prevents the control and heating unit from being removed from the housing part if the control and heating unit is connected to the housing part and the temperature controller is not in its off position.

[0005] When handling such grills, especially when not in use, care must be taken not to grasp the control and heating unit's operating panel, as this would cause the unit to be lifted from the housing or the other components of the grill. Furthermore, the previously described concepts for connecting the control and heating unit to the housing limit the design freedom for the control unit, which is regularly visible to the user.

[0006] Based on this discussed prior art, the invention is based on the object of designing an electric grill of the type described above in such a way that it is improved compared to the grills acknowledged above with regard to the disadvantages mentioned.

[0007] This object is achieved according to the invention by a generic grill device as mentioned at the outset, in which, for connecting the control and heating unit to the housing part, the housing part has a holding flange projecting outwards from a side wall of the housing part with at least one locking latch passing through said holding flange, provided by a collar formed on the underside of the holding flange, and the operating unit of the control and heating unit has, on its underside facing the holding flange, a locking member projecting downwards therefrom with at least one locking arm carrying a lock and elastically flexible in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the side wall, which at least one locking arm, when the control and heating unit is connected to the housing part, engages behind the collar of the locking latch with its locking bar and is supported with its side of its at least one locking arm facing the housing part on the inside of the locking latch, at least under corresponding load.

[0008] To hold and connect the control and heating unit, the grill according to the invention has a holding flange protruding outward from a side wall of the housing part. This can be provided by the housing part itself or by a component fastened to the housing part. The holding flange serves as a seat for the control and heating unit connected to the housing part. The holding flange has at least one locking latch. The locking latch extends through the holding flange and is completed by a collar arranged on its underside. The collar is typically circumferential and thus designed in the manner of a preferably square or rectangular ring structure. The control and heating unit has at least one projecting locking member on the underside of its operating unit to lock it to the holding flange. Such a locking member comprises at least one locking arm and a bolt protruding from the locking arm.The locking arm is elastically flexible in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the side wall of the housing part and thus in the direction of the width of the grill. The locking arm and the locking latch are arranged in such a way that when the control and heating unit is mounted on the mounting flange, the locking arm engages in the locking latch and the latch automatically springs into its position engaging behind the collar. If the control and heating unit is connected to the housing part, the latch engages behind the collar of the locking latch. In addition, the locking latch is arranged and designed so that at least one locking arm is supported at least with its side facing the housing part on the inner wall of the locking latch, at least when the operating unit is subjected to a corresponding load. As a result of these measures, the control and heating unit, when connected to the housing part via its operating unit, is locked to the housing part. This allows the grill to be handled, for example, to be moved, by the control unit without the risk of the control and heating unit becoming detached from the other components of the grill or displaced. This locking design between the control and heating unit and the retaining flange allows the retaining flange to be designed so that it only needs to extend over a short section in the direction of the depth of the control unit.

[0009] Thanks to the aforementioned locking mechanism between the control and heating unit and the housing, the design freedom for the operating unit is virtually unrestricted. This means that, with the exception of the components required for locking to the housing, the operating unit can be designed so that it can be positioned in front of the side panel of the housing and, in particular, at a distance from it. This significantly limits the design freedom, especially with regard to the depth of the grill and the side closure of the operating unit, compared to previously known electric grills. This also allows for the provision of a modular electric grill in which the housing and the remaining components of the grill, with the exception of the control and heating unit, are identical parts. This grill can be used with control and heating units with different technical features and / or designs, using the same mounting flange. Different technical configurations of such a control and heating unit can be achieved, for example, by varying the number and / or arrangement of heating elements.

[0010] The flexibility of the at least one locking arm in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the side wall has the advantage that the locking arm is not elastically flexible in the direction of the depth of the housing part and is thus used for effective support on the locking latch of the retaining flange, so that forces acting on the operating unit in the vertical direction, for example when a person leans on it or the grill is grasped to lift the operating unit, are introduced into the retaining flange via the at least one locking arm. In addition, this design of the locking latch allows at least one locking arm to be inserted into the retaining flange without play in the direction of the depth of the housing part and thus in the transverse direction to the longitudinal extension of the retaining flange. This is the case in a preferred embodiment.

[0011] Preferably, the at least one locking arm of the at least one locking member is designed in a strip-like manner, with its locking bar arranged on a flat side. In a preferred embodiment, the locking member is designed with two arms. Each locking arm carries a locking bar on its side facing away from the other locking arm. The locking bars of these two locking arms then engage behind ends of the collar opposite one another with respect to the locking latch. Both locking arms are elastically flexible.

[0012] The locking link(s) are typically plastic parts.

[0013] The design of at least one locking member in the manner described above allows the locking arm(s) to be provided with a length at which the locks are spaced from the free end. The lock-free end section can then be used as a handle for grasping the locking arm(s) when the locking with the retaining flange is to be released. If a locking member with two locking arms is provided, these are adjusted towards each other for this purpose. If no other lifting means are provided with which the operating unit is pushed upwards by the retaining flange after the lock is released until the locks are in the locking latch, the operating unit is lifted slightly manually so that the locks are moved out of their position engaging behind the collar and inserted into the locking latch. The locking arms can then be released and the control and heating unit can be removed from the housing part.

[0014] To position the control and heating unit on the holding flange, a preferred development provides that both the holding flange and the control and heating unit, the latter being designed to be complementary to one another with regard to its operating unit, have positioning structures. These are engaged with one another when the control and heating unit is connected to the housing part. This ensures both correct positioning and a positive fit, which blocks any relative movement between the operating unit and the control and heating unit with respect to the holding flange. Typically, such positioning structures extend transversely to the longitudinal extent of the holding flange, such that any relative movement between the operating unit of the control and heating unit with respect to the holding flange in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the housing part is blocked.Forces acting in this direction are then absorbed by the positioning structures and not transmitted to the locking arm(s) that are elastically flexible in this direction. In the transverse direction to the direction of action of the prescribed positioning structures, the control unit is already positively locked due to at least one locking arm engaging the locking latch of the retaining flange.

[0015] Advantageously, the grill is equipped with means by which the locking mechanism between the control and heating unit and the retaining flange is subjected to a certain pre-tension. This ensures that the locking mechanism is then free of play and also has the advantage that if the control and heating unit is to be removed from the housing part with its retaining flange, the locking arm(s) ultimately only need to be adjusted to move the respective lock out of its position engaging behind the collar, since these means then automatically raise the control unit, preferably to a position where the locks of the locking arms rest against the inner wall of the locking latch. This can be achieved, for example, by providing one or more spring elements that are pre-tensioned during the assembly process when the control and heating unit is connected to the retaining flange. In a preferred embodiment, two such spring elements designed as leaf springs are provided. These are typically arranged adjacent to the latch to ensure a uniform lifting of the operating unit when the lock is released.

[0016] To ensure that the control and heating unit is de-energized when it is not connected to the housing part, one embodiment provides for the operating unit to have at least one current flow switch. This is partially accessible from the outside, typically through a corresponding opening in the underside of the housing of the operating unit. Such a current flow switch is open as long as it is not actuated. To actuate the current flow switch and thus switch on the control and operating unit, an actuator for switching each current flow switch, for example a short pin, is arranged on the holding flange. This means that the current flow switch(es) are only closed with the last assembly movement when connecting the control and heating unit to the housing part.

[0017] Further stabilization of the control and heating unit, when connected to the housing part, can be provided by a support connected to the heating element(s). This support is supported by one or more support legs on the bottom of the housing part or a tray carried by the housing part if the control and heating unit is mounted on the housing part.

[0018] The invention is described below using an exemplary embodiment with reference to the accompanying figures. They show: Fig. 1: A perspective view of an electric grill according to the invention, Fig. 2: a perspective view of the grill of the Fig. 1 with its control and heating unit in the manner of an exploded view, raised from a housing part carrying a tub, Fig. 3: an enlarged perspective top view of the front side wall of the housing part of the grill device of the preceding figures with its retaining flange attached thereto, Fig. 4: the control and heating unit of the electric grill of the preceding figures in a standalone view from a different perspective, viewed from the housing part, Fig. 5: the control and heating unit connected to the holding flange in a longitudinal section through the operating unit of the control and heating unit looking towards the housing part and Fig. 6a, Fig. 6b: a cross-sectional view of the electric grill with its Fig. 2 components shown ( Fig. 6a) and an enlarged view of the control unit connected to the housing part.

[0019] An electric grill 1 has a tub-like lower housing part 2, which in the illustration of the Fig. 1 is closed by a lid 3. Connected to the two narrow sides of the housing part 2 is a stand module 4, 4.1, each comprising a base 5, 5.1 for supporting the grill 1 on a surface on which the grill 1 is or is to be placed, and a side shelf 6, 6.1 projecting in the extension of the width of the housing part 2. The electric grill 1 is designed as a table grill in the illustrated embodiment. The grill 1 further comprises a control and heating unit 7 (see Fig. 2), from which Fig. 1 shows only the front view of the operating unit 8 belonging to the control and heating unit 7. The operating unit 8 contains the temperature controllers required for regulating the temperature of the heating elements, of which the manually operated rotary knobs 9, 9.1 can be seen in the figure. An electrical power cable 10 for supplying power to the control and heating unit 7 is inserted into the operating unit 8. For the sake of simplicity, the power cable 10 is not shown in the following figures. The housing part 2 carries a grease tray W.

[0020] The control unit 8 protrudes significantly from the front side wall 11 of the housing part 2. A circumferential air gap exists between the side wall 11 and the control unit 8, giving the impression that the control unit 8 is floating on the housing part 2.

[0021] As in Fig. 2, the control and heating unit 7 has two heating elements 12, 12.1, each controlled by a temperature controller. A support 13 is arranged on the underside of the heating elements 12, 12.1, via which support the heating elements 12, 12.1 are supported on the floor of the grease pan W. The support 13 is arranged in the area of the curves of the heating elements 12, 12.1 opposite the control unit 8 and thus at a corresponding distance from the control unit 8. The support 13 comprises a rod 14 extending in the direction of the width of the housing part 2, on which a support leg 15, 15.1 is angled at each of its two ends.

[0022] In the assembled position, as shown in Fig. 1, there is a grill grate or a grill plate above the heating elements 12, 12.1, which rests on an upper circumferential shoulder 16 of the housing part 2 or on the outwardly bevelled edge of the grease tray W.

[0023] The housing part 2 has a retaining flange 17 on its front side. This flange protrudes horizontally outward from the side wall 11. In the illustrated embodiment, the retaining flange 17 is located in a side wall recess formed in the side wall 11 toward the interior of the lower housing part 2. In the assembled position, the control and operating unit 7 is held by the underside of its operating unit 8 on the retaining flange 17 without play.

[0024] The retaining flange 17 is shown in an enlarged perspective view in Fig. 3. In the illustrated embodiment, the retaining flange 17 is a separately manufactured component that is connected to the side wall 11 by means of fasteners in the side wall recess. The retaining flange 17 is a metal part. The retaining flange 17 has a locking latch 18 designed as an opening. The locking latch 18 comprises a circumferential collar 19 that protrudes from the underside of the retaining flange 17. Adjacent to the locking latch 18, a spring element 20, 20.1 designed as a leaf spring is arranged on each side in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the retaining flange 17. Fig. Figure 3 shows the spring elements 20, 20.1 in their non-use position, in which they protrude from the top side of the retaining flange 11. When the control and heating unit 7 is mounted on the retaining flange 17, the spring elements 20, 20.1 act against the underside of the operating unit 8, thereby placing a certain preload on the operating unit 8 in the vertical direction. In the area of the lateral ends of the retaining flange 17, two positioning structures 21, 21.1 are arranged, extending in the transverse direction of the retaining flange 17 and thus in the direction of the depth of the lower housing part 2 and rounded on the top side. When the control and heating unit 7 is connected to the retaining flange 17, these interact with complementary positioning structures of the operating unit 8, designed as negative structures. This prevents transverse displacement of the operating unit 8 and thus of the entire control and heating unit 7 in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the holding flange 17.Thus, a positive connection is formed in this direction by the engagement of the complementary positioning structures 21, 21.1.

[0025] The retaining flange 17 also carries two pin-like actuators 22, 22.1, which, when mounted on the retaining flange 17, penetrate the lower housing wall of the control unit 8 and each actuate a current flow switch, thereby closing them.

[0026] The operating unit 8 of the control and heating unit 7 carries a locking member 23 on its underside. The locking member 23 is designed with two arms, with both locking arms 24, 24.1, which in the illustrated embodiment are strip-shaped, each carrying a lock 25, 25.1 on their mutually facing flat sides. The locking arms 24, 24.1 are elastically adjustable relative to one another. To enable this, the locking arms 24, 24.1 are spaced apart from one another in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the retaining flange 17. The locks 25, 25.1 are located at a position with respect to the length of each locking arm 24, 24.1 such that, when the control and heating unit 7 is mounted on the retaining flange 17, they engage through the locking latch 18 and engage behind the lower end of the collar 19, as can be seen from the sectional view of the Fig. 5. The negative structures complementary to the positioning structures 21, 21.1 of the retaining flange 17, which are designed as positive structures, are designed as recesses 26, 26.1 in Fig. 4. Openings 27, 27.1 are arranged in the underside of the housing of the operating unit 8 at complementary locations to the actuators 22, 22.1. A current flow switch is located at each of these locations on the inside of the housing, which is normally open. Only when the control and heating unit 7 is connected to the retaining flange 17, when the actuators 22, 22.1 engage sufficiently far into the openings 27, 27.1, are these closed, allowing operation of the control and heating unit 7. This ensures that the heating elements 12, 12.1 and, if applicable, other electrical components of the operating unit 8 are de-energized as soon as the control and heating unit 7 is removed from the retaining flange 17.

[0027] In the sectional view of the Fig. 6a, the control and heating unit 7 is connected to the housing part 2 or its retaining flange 17. In this position, the locking arms 24, 24.1 engage the locking latch 8. In the direction of the depth of the housing part 2, the locking arms 24 engage the locking latch 18 without play. The locking bolts 25, 25.1 are, as can be seen from Fig. 4, spaced from the free end of the locking arms 24, 24.1, so that the end sections can be used as handles for adjusting the locking arms 24, 24.1 towards each other in order to Fig. 5 to release the lock shown.

[0028] This illustration also shows the support of the heating elements 12, 12.1 by means of the support legs 15, 15.1 of their support 13 on the floor of the fat pan W. Below the fat pan W there is a bowl 28 for collecting cooking liquid escaping through a drain opening 29 of the fat pan W.

[0029] This and the enlarged view in Fig. 6b the air gap already mentioned above with the reference number 30 between the operating unit 8 and the side wall 11 of the housing part 2.

[0030] The invention has been described using exemplary embodiments. Without departing from the scope of protection described by the applicable claims, numerous further embodiments for implementing the inventive concept will become apparent to those skilled in the art without the need for further explanation within the scope of these statements.
