DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0025] The present disclosure is described in detail below with reference to the drawings.

[0026] Fig. Figure 1 is a perspective view of a battery module according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. Fig. Figure 2 is an exploded view of a battery module according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0027] With reference to the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. A battery module 10 according to one embodiment of the present disclosure can comprise a housing 200, a cell arrangement 100 housed in the housing 200, and a busbar arrangement 300 arranged on at least one side of the cell arrangement 100. In particular, according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the battery module 10 can comprise the housing 200 containing a receiving space, the cell arrangement 100 arranged in the receiving space and containing a plurality of battery cells 110, and the busbar arrangement 300 arranged on at least one side of the cell arrangement 100.Here, the busbar arrangement 300 of the present disclosure can include a busbar 330 that electrically connects a plurality of battery cells 110, a support frame 310 that supports the busbar, and a protective element 350 that is arranged between the busbar 330 and the support frame 310. Each component is described in detail below.

[0028] The housing 200 can include an upper cover 210, which is arranged above the (+Z-axis) of the cell arrangement 100 and covers the cell arrangement 100, a lower cover 220, which faces the upper cover 210 and supports the cell arrangement 100, and a side cover 230, which is arranged in a section not covered by the upper cover 210 and the lower cover 220. In the drawing, the upper cover 210 and the lower cover 220 are illustrated as having a [] shape, with at least one section of each being curved. However, the present disclosure is not limited to this, and the upper cover 210 and the lower cover 220 can be provided to have a simple plate shape.

[0029] Furthermore, according to one embodiment, the housing 200 can also include an insulating cover 240, which faces the busbar assembly 300 and contains an electrically insulating material. The insulating cover 240 can be arranged between a cover (the lower cover 220 in the drawing) facing the busbar assembly 300 and the busbar assembly 300, thereby preventing an electrical short circuit between them.

[0030] According to one embodiment, the housing 200 can include a connection hole 205 that exposes the terminal 305 of the busbar assembly 300 to the outside. The terminal 305 can be made of an electrically conductive material, such as metal. The terminal 305 can be connected to at least one of the busbars 330 to be electrically connected to an external power source of the battery module 10. The terminal 305 can be exposed to the outside through the connection hole 205 to be electrically connected to the external power source. In the drawing, the connection hole 205 is illustrated as being formed in the upper cover 210. However, this is for ease of understanding and the present disclosure is not limited to this.

[0031] The cell arrangement 100 can contain a plurality of battery cells 110. The battery cell 110 of the present disclosure can include a housing containing an electrode arrangement and a conductor tab (112, see Fig. 6), which is arranged on at least one side of the housing. The conductor tab 112 can have one side connected to the electrode arrangement inside the housing, and the other side can project outwards from the housing to be electrically connected to the busbar 330. As described below with reference to Fig. As described in section 6, the conductor tab 112 can be inserted into the busbar arrangement 300 and electrically connected to the busbar 330.

[0032] The electrode array can be configured such that the positive and negative electrode plates are stacked with broad surfaces facing each other, with the separator positioned between them. The separator can be configured to prevent an electrical short circuit between the positive and negative electrode plates and to facilitate ion flow. For example, the separator can enclose a porous polymer film or a porous nonwoven fabric. Furthermore, the electrode array can be housed in the casing in various ways, such as stacking, zigzag folds (Z-folds), or stack folds in a jelly-roll configuration formed by winding in a predetermined direction. The battery cell 110 can be, but is not limited to, a lithium-ion secondary battery. For example, the battery cell can be an electrochemical nickel-cadmium cell, a nickel-metal hydride battery, or a nickel-hydrogen battery that can be charged or discharged with electricity.

[0033] The battery cell 110 of the present disclosure can be provided as a pouch-type, prismatic-type, or cylindrical-type battery cell, depending on the structure of the casing. While the drawing illustrates the battery cell 110 as a pouch cell with a pouch-shaped casing, the present disclosure is not limited to this, and a prismatic or cylindrical-type battery cell can also be used.

[0034] Furthermore, the cell arrangement 100 can also include a thermal barrier element 120 arranged between the plurality of battery cells 110. The thermal barrier element 120 can contain a heat-resistant material. For example, the thermal barrier element 120 can contain at least one material selected from the group consisting of mica, ceramics, glass fibers, and silica aerogel. However, the thermal barrier element 120 of the present disclosure is not limited to the materials described above, and any material that can be arranged between the plurality of battery cells 110 and serves to prevent or reduce heat propagation between adjacent battery cells 110 can be considered the thermal barrier element 120 of the present disclosure.Since the thermal barrier element 120 of the present disclosure serves to prevent or minimize heat propagation between adjacent cells 110, the thermal barrier element 120 can also be referred to as a thermal barrier. Furthermore, as explained below with reference to... Fig. As described in section 6, at least one side of the thermal barrier element 120 is inserted into the busbar assembly 300 to prevent or reduce heat propagation between adjacent battery cells 110.

[0035] The busbar arrangement 300 of the present disclosure is described in detail below with reference to the drawings.

[0036] Fig. Figure 3 is an exploded view of a busbar arrangement according to one embodiment and Fig. Figure 4 shows a view of the busbar assembly from the outside. In the present disclosure, the “outside of the busbar assembly 300” can refer to a space between the housing 200 and the busbar assembly 300, and an “inside of the busbar assembly 300” can refer to a space between the busbar assembly 300 and the cell assembly 100.

[0037] With reference to the Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 Together, the busbar arrangement 300 can include a support frame 310, a busbar 330 coupled to the support frame 310, and a protective element 350 arranged between them.

[0038] The support frame 310 is arranged between the busbar 330 and the cell assembly 100, thereby preventing a short circuit between the busbar 330 and the battery cell 110. The support frame 310 may contain an electrically insulating material. According to one embodiment, the support frame 310 may include a frame slot 312 through which the conductor tab 112 passes, and a support mounting section 317 that secures the busbar 330.

[0039] At least one busbar 330 can be arranged on the support frame 310 in an arrangement or stacking direction of the battery cells 110. The busbar 330 can be arranged facing the support frame 310, with the protective element 350 positioned between them. The busbar 330 can contain an electrically conductive material, such as metal, and can be electrically connected to the conductor lug 112. At least one section of the busbar 330 can be electrically connected to the terminal 305 described above. In one embodiment, the busbar 330 can include a busbar slot 332 into which the conductor lug 112 is inserted, and a busbar hole 337 through which the support mounting section 317 passes.

[0040] The protective element 350 can be arranged between the busbar 330 and the support frame 310. In other words, the protective element 350 can be arranged facing the cell arrangement 100, with the support frame 310 positioned between them. Furthermore, at least one protective element 350 can be arranged in the arrangement or stacking direction of the battery cells 110. The number of protective elements 350 can be equal to the number of busbars 330.

[0041] In one embodiment, the protective element 350 can contain a heat-resistant material, comprising at least one material selected from the group consisting of mica, ceramics, glass fibers, and silica aerogel. This allows the protective element 350 to delay the propagation of gas and heat between the outer and inner surfaces of the busbar assembly 300.

[0042] According to one embodiment, the melting point of the protective element 350 can be higher than the melting point of the support frame. Therefore, even if the support frame 310 melts during thermal runaway, the protective element 350 can be positioned between the busbar 330 and the cell assembly 100 to prevent direct contact between the busbar 330 and the cell assembly 100.

[0043] Furthermore, according to one embodiment, the protective element 350 can include a protective slot 352 through which the conductor tab 112 passes, and a protective hole 357 through which the support fastening section 317 passes.

[0044] Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view along line II' of Fig. 4.

[0045] With reference to Fig. 5. According to one embodiment, the support frame 310 can include the support fastening section 317, which projects towards the busbar 330 in order to fasten the busbar 330.

[0046] The support mounting section 317 can penetrate the busbar 330 and the protective element 350, so that at least one section of the support mounting section is arranged between the busbar 330 and the housing 200.

[0047] According to one embodiment, the support mounting section 317 can project outwards to penetrate the busbar hole 337 and the guard hole 357, and have an outer end that is pressed or fused to secure the busbar 330 and the guard element 350. In particular, the support mounting section 317 can include a support section 318 that penetrates the busbar 330 and the guard element 350, and a head section 319 located at an outer end of the support section 318. The head section 319 can be formed by compressing or fusion of the outer end of the support section 318, such that a diameter W4 of the head section 319 can be larger than a diameter W1 of the support section 318.This means that the support mounting section 317 can include the support section 318, which is arranged between the busbar hole 337 and the guard hole 357, and the head section 319, which is arranged at one end of the support section 318 and faces the support frame 310, with the busbar 330 and the guard element 350 arranged between them. This structure allows the busbar 330 and the guard element 350 to be inserted and secured between the head section 319 of the support mounting section 317 and the support frame 310. Since the guard element 350 can be inserted and secured between the busbar 330 and the support frame 310, it is not necessary, according to the present disclosure, to couple the guard element 350 by a separate element, thereby increasing the efficiency of the assembly process.

[0048] Furthermore, the diameter of the support section 318 is not particularly limited as long as it can pass through the busbar 330 and the protective element 350 while securing them. That is to say, a diameter W2 of the protective hole 357 and a diameter W3 of the busbar hole 337 can be formed such that they are smaller than the diameter W4 of the head section 319 of the support fastening section 317 and larger than the diameter of the support section 318. Although the drawing illustrates that the diameter W3 of the busbar hole 337 is larger than the diameter W2 of the protective hole 357, this is merely for the sake of clarity and the present disclosure is not limited to this.

[0049] Fig. Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view along line II-II' of Fig. 4, Fig. Figure 7 illustrates an embodiment of section A of Fig. 6, and Fig. Figure 8 illustrates another embodiment of section A of Fig. 6.

[0050] With reference to the Fig. 6 and Fig. 8. Together, the conductor tab 112 can be at least partially inserted into the busbar assembly 300. As described above, according to one embodiment, the busbar 330 can include a busbar slot 332 into which the conductor tab 112 is inserted, the support frame 310 can include a frame slot 312 through which the conductor tab 112 passes, and the protective element 350 can include a protective slot 352 through which the conductor tab 112 passes and which is connected to the busbar slot 332 and the frame slot 312.

[0051] In particular, the conductor lug 112 can successively pass through the frame slot 312 and the protective slot 352 and be at least partially inserted into the busbar slot 332 to be electrically connected to the busbar 330. While the drawing illustrates that the conductor lug 112 is spaced away from the busbar 330, this serves for ease of understanding, and the conductor lug 112 can be in contact with the busbar 330 and be electrically connected to it.

[0052] The width L2 of the protective slot 352 can be smaller than the width L1 of the frame slot 312. This can prevent or reduce the passage of flames or gas through the frame slot 312 during thermal propagation. Fig. Figure 7 illustrates that the width L2 of the protective slot 352 is larger than the width L1 of the frame slot 312; however, this is merely an example for easier understanding, and the present disclosure is not limited to the drawing. While the drawing further illustrates that the width L2 of the protective slot 352 is larger than a width L3 of the busbar slot 332, the present disclosure is not limited to this.

[0053] With reference to Fig. 8 According to one embodiment, the protective element 350 can include an inclined section 351 configured such that the width of the protective slot 352 decreases in a direction from the cell arrangement 100 to the busbar 330 (i.e., outwards). The inclined section 351 can increase the contact area of a surface facing the cell arrangement 100.

[0054] Meanwhile, the protective element 350 of the present disclosure can be fitted into the busbar 330 and the support frame 310 by means of the support fastening section 317 and coupled to them. Alternatively, the protective element 350 can be coupled directly to the busbar 330.

[0055] Fig. Figure 9 illustrates an embodiment of Section B of Fig. 6.

[0056] With reference to Fig. 9 According to one embodiment, the protective element 350 can include at least one projection 353 that extends outwards from a surface facing the busbar 330 and is inserted into the busbar 330. This means that the protective element 350 can be inserted directly into the busbar 330 via the projection 353 and coupled to the busbar 330. This can improve the coupling integrity between the busbar 330 and the protective element 350. Furthermore, the protective element 350 can be kept in a state in which it is coupled to the busbar 330 even if the support frame 310 melts during thermal runaway, thus preventing the busbar 330 from making direct contact with the cell assembly 100.

[0057] Meanwhile, the thermal barrier element 120 and the protective element 350 of the present disclosure can delay the spread of flames or gas to adjacent battery cells 110 during thermal runaway to a maximum extent.

[0058] Fig. Figure 10 is a diagram illustrating a delay in heat propagation according to one embodiment.

[0059] With reference to Fig. 10. The cell arrangement 100 may include at least one thermal barrier element 120 arranged between the plurality of battery cells 110. Meanwhile, according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the cell arrangement 100 may further include an elastic element 130 arranged between at least one of the plurality of battery cells 110 or the thermal barrier element 120. The elastic element 130 may contain an elastic material and may absorb the expansion pressure of the battery cells 110.

[0060] The support frame 310 can include a locking groove 311 into which the thermal barrier element 120 of the cell assembly 100 is inserted. That is, at least one end of the thermal barrier element 120 can be inserted into the locking groove 311 of the support frame 310. This allows the interior of the battery module 10 to be divided into a variety of spaces SA and SB, like a kind of compartment based on the thermal barrier element 120.

[0061] In addition, according to one embodiment, the locking groove 311 can be arranged between a plurality of protective elements 350 and a plurality of busbars 330. At least one section of the locking groove 311 can project outwards to prevent or delay the propagation of flames or heat to adjacent protective elements 350 and adjacent busbars 330.

[0062] In the drawing, the space located on one side of the thermal barrier element 120 is defined as a first space SA and the space located on the other side of the thermal barrier element 120 is defined as a second space SB.

[0063] As illustrated in the drawing, it can be assumed that a trigger cell 110t, experiencing thermal runaway among the plurality of battery cells 110, is located in the first space SA. Here, flames or gases occurring in the first space SA can propagate via at least one of the following: a first propagation path TP1, along which flames or gas flow directly from the interior of the busbar assembly 300 in the stacking direction of the battery cells 110, or a second propagation path TP2, along which flames or gas propagate from the outside of the busbar assembly 300.

[0064] According to the present disclosure, the propagation of flames or gases flowing through the first propagation path TP1 can be prevented or delayed by the thermal barrier element 120, which is inserted into the barrier groove 311. Furthermore, the propagation of flames or gases flowing through the second propagation path TP2 can be prevented or delayed by the structure of the protective element 350, which is described above with reference to the Fig. 6 to Fig. As described in section 8, the propagation of flames or gases generated by any battery cell 110 can be prevented or delayed. This allows the battery module 10 of the present disclosure to delay the propagation of flames or gases generated by any battery cell 110 to a maximum extent.

[0065] While the first propagation path TP1 through the thermal barrier element 120 in Fig. Although described in Section 10 as an example, the present disclosure is not limited to this and any structure capable of preventing the propagation of flames or gases through the second propagation path TP2 via the protective element 350 may be used. In other words, any structure containing the protective element 350 may be considered to be within the scope of protection of the present disclosure and the present disclosure is not limited to the presence of the thermal barrier element 120 or the structure of the barrier groove 311.

[0066] Fig. Figure 11 is a perspective view of a battery pack according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The redundant descriptions, as above with reference to the Fig. 1 to Fig. The 10 items that are given have been omitted.

[0067] With reference to Fig. 11. According to one embodiment, a battery pack 1 can contain the battery module 10, which is described above with reference to the Fig. 1 to Fig. 10. The battery pack 1 can contain a pack housing 20 and at least one battery module 10 arranged in the pack housing 20. Here, the battery module 10 can be the battery module 10 described above with reference to the Fig. 1 to Fig. 10 was described. In particular, the battery pack 1 of the present disclosure can include the pack housing 20, which has a charging space and at least one battery module 10 which is charged in the charging space.

[0068] The pack housing 20 can include a pack cover 21, which covers the upper (+Z-axis) side of the battery module 10, and a pack frame 22, which faces the pack cover 21 and houses the battery module 10.

[0069] Furthermore, the pack housing 20 can also include subdivisions 23 and 24 that divide the cargo space into a plurality of compartments. The subdivisions 23 and 24 can include a first subdivision 23 that crosses the cargo space and a second subdivision 24 that is arranged between the plurality of battery modules 10.

[0070] According to one embodiment, the battery pack 1 can include a controller (not shown) for controlling the battery modules 10 that are charged in the charging compartment. The controller can include a battery management system (BMS) that measures the voltage, temperature, etc. of the battery modules 10 and manages the input / output.

[0071] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the battery module and the battery pack can be provided in which the propagation of gases or flames occurring in any battery cell to an adjacent battery cell can be delayed to a maximum extent.

[0072] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the battery module and the battery pack can be provided in which the passage of gases or flames through the busbar assembly can be prevented or reduced.

[0073] Although the embodiments of the present disclosure have been described above, the scope of the present disclosure is not limited thereto, and it will be obvious to the person skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made within the scope without departing from the technical idea of the present disclosure as described in the claims.
