AI Technical Summary
The existing methods for renovating road surfaces around box elements often result in uneven material compression, leading to defects and subsequent material weakening due to density differences and material exchange between old and new materials, which can cause cracks and further renovation needs.
A blocking ring is inserted around the box element, formed to prevent direct contact between the outer and inner road surface materials, with a diameter larger than the box element, and used as a milling tool to remove and replace the defective material, ensuring even compression and material exchange prevention.
This solution reliably prevents material weakening and further defects by maintaining even material compression and reducing material exchange, enhancing the durability of the renovated road surface.
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a method for rehabilitating a road surface according to the preamble of claim 1.
[0002] Furthermore, the invention relates to a locking ring for such a method according to claim 4.
[0003] During road construction, channels or pipes are often installed underground before the substructure and superstructure are laid, for example, for water supply, drainage, or power and data lines. Such channels and pipes have vertically directed shafts at specific intervals, which terminate with a shaft element in the road surface to be formed.
[0004] When building a road, such channels and pipes are laid in an initial phase. The subsoil can then be consolidated, and a substructure and superstructure, comprising the base layer and the surface, also known as the road surface or road surface, can be laid to form the road. In particular, the material for the superstructure and, in some cases, also for the substructure of the road, must be compacted. Soil compactors, such as rollers or vibrating plates, are typically used to compact the applied materials. Such soil compactors can achieve very good compaction on open surfaces.
[0005] However, with previously constructed protruding vertical shafts, it may happen that the applied materials are not compacted to the same extent or cannot be compacted to the same extent in the peripheral area around the protruding shafts, for example, because a soil compactor was not positioned precisely against a shaft element. In the case of uneven compaction of the materials applied for the road construction, cracks and other defects in the road surface around the shaft elements may occur over time. Such defects around a shaft element must be subsequently repaired.
[0006] In such renovations, the damaged ceiling, together with the underlying load-bearing layer and, if applicable, the substructure, is usually at least partially removed in an area around a shaft element and replaced with new material.
[0007] It has been found that in the area of rehabilitated road surfaces around manhole elements, cracks and defects can reappear after some time, despite careful rehabilitation, requiring further rehabilitation measures.
[0008] A method according to the preamble of claim 1 is known from KR 2015 0136321. A conventional locking ring according to the preamble of claim 7 is known from US 2016 / 333192.
[0009] The invention is based on the Task The aim of the invention is to provide a method for forming or renovating a road surface and a barrier ring therefor, with which a road surface can be formed or renovated around a shaft element in a particularly reliable manner.
[0010] The object is achieved, on the one hand, by a method having the features of claim 1 and, on the other hand, by a locking ring having the features of claim 4. Preferred embodiments of the invention are specified in the respective dependent claims.
[0011] The method according to the invention is characterized in that a barrier ring is arranged around an existing shaft element at a distance from the shaft element, the outer circumference of which is bordered by the road surface, that the barrier ring is introduced into the existing road surface by milling, that material of the road surface is then removed in an intermediate region between the shaft element and an inner side of the surrounding barrier ring, and that a covering material is introduced into the intermediate region between the shaft element and the inner side of the surrounding barrier ring.
[0012] The invention is based on the discovery that defects can occur at road surface locations around manhole elements due to material weakening in the road structure. According to one discovery of the invention, such weakening can arise solely due to density differences in the road structure, and in particular the road surface. During rehabilitation, material weakening can occur in the boundary area between the old and new material due to a diffusion-like material exchange. This can lead to a "migration" of the compaction of the material. Depending on the type of existing and used materials, the weakening can develop in the adjacent, unrenovated road surface or in the newly introduced material at the renovated location. This effect can also occur with new road surfaces, since a different, often slight, compaction is often applied around manhole elements.
[0013] According to a finding of the invention, such material weakening can be reliably counteracted by inserting a barrier ring to define a shaft element. The outer side of the barrier ring is bordered by the road surface, while the inner side is separately applied to the outside. The barrier ring is designed to prevent direct material contact between the outer road surface material and the inner surface material. In this way, the barrier ring can prevent or block any material exchange between the different materials in a horizontal direction. In this way, the formation of further material weakening due to compaction migration around shaft elements can be avoided.
[0014] Depending on the type of road structure, it is preferable for the barrier ring diameter to be between 10 cm and 100 cm larger than the outer diameter of the manhole element. In principle, the diameter of the barrier ring depends on the size of the manhole element and the desired annular area around the manhole element.
[0015] The process according to the invention involves inserting the barrier ring into the existing road surface, and then removing the road surface material in the intermediate area. The barrier ring, when inserted prior to removal of the road surface, also acts as a kind of support ring, which supports the existing road surface in the intermediate area during the removal of the road surface material to be rehabilitated.
[0016] The invention is characterized in that the locking ring is milled into the road surface. A special slotting or ring milling machine can be provided for this purpose. The locking ring according to the invention is generally provided with removal teeth on its underside, so that the ring also serves as a milling tool for milling directly into the road surface.
[0017] The removal of the damaged road material can be carried out in any suitable manner. According to a further development of the invention, it is particularly advantageous for the road material to be removed by milling. In particular, ring milling machines can be used for this purpose, which mill the road material in a ring around a shaft element. The existing road material is removed to a suitable depth. This can involve removing only the surface or the base course, or even partially or entirely the substructure of the road.
[0018] New materials can be introduced, such as gravel, sand, and various types of asphalt. In principle, a paving material that differs partially or entirely from the existing road surface can also be used. In particular, ready-mixed asphalt or ready-mixed concrete can be used for the new paving material.
[0019] With regard to the barrier ring according to the invention, it is provided that it is dimensionally stable, in particular made of metal, in particular steel, plastic or a concrete material. Depending on the type of material, a thickness of a few millimeters up to several centimeters can be provided. In particular for a barrier ring made of metal, in particular steel, a wall thickness of 3 mm to 10 mm can be sufficient. In contrast, for a barrier ring made of plastic and in particular of a concrete material, greater wall thicknesses of up to several centimeters can be provided. Preferably, pointed, downward-projecting projections can be provided on the underside of the barrier ring, which serve as removal elements when the barrier ring is milled into an existing road surface. The barrier ring according to the invention can also be used independently of the method described above. In particular, the barrier ring can also be used in general for the rehabilitation of road surfaces in places where no shaft element is installed. In particular, a barrier ring can also be used for potholes.
[0020] An alternative design of a barrier ring, which is not covered by the invention, consists in the fact that it is made of a non-dimensionally stable material, such as a woven fabric, a nonwoven fabric, or a fiberglass mesh. Such a material cannot assume a direct supporting function, but can perform the crucial function of preventing direct material exchange between the existing road surface material and the new surface material.
[0021] The fabric can be woven from synthetic threads, for example. The nonwoven fabric can also be made from synthetic fibers. Especially when using threads and fibers made from other materials, additional coatings made of suitable sealing materials can be applied to the non-dimensionally stable material. This could be a water-repellent rubber coating or another plastic coating.
[0022] According to a further embodiment of the barrier ring according to the invention, it is particularly advantageous that it has a thickness between 1 mm and 20 mm and a height between 5 cm and 40 cm. In particular, the height of the barrier ring depends on the depth to which a damaged road surface material needs to be replaced.
[0023] For the purposes of the invention, the terms "road" and "road surface" are to be understood broadly and not limited to carriageways. In particular, they also include sidewalks, squares, parking lots, and other areas covered with a surface material typical of roads. The barrier ring can be square or, preferably, circular.
[0024] The invention will be further explained below with reference to preferred embodiments, which are schematically illustrated in the figures. In the figures: Fig. 1 shows a plan view of a repaired road surface; and Fig. 2 shows a detailed view of a barrier ring according to the invention.
[0025] According to Fig. 1 A shaft element 20 with a manhole cover 22 is provided in a road surface 10. For the inventive rehabilitation of the road surface 10 in an annular area around the shaft element 20, an annular barrier ring 30 is introduced into the road surface 10.
[0026] The annular barrier ring 30 has a diameter that is defined to be larger than the shaft element 20, which is preferably concentrically surrounded by the barrier ring 30. In this way, an annular intermediate space 16 is formed, which is delimited on the inside by the shaft element 20 and on the outside by the barrier ring 30. In this intermediate region 16, the existing road surface material is replaced with a new surface material 18. This can be achieved by milling and removing the existing surface material of the road surface 10 in the intermediate region 16. The new surface material 18 can then be introduced into the milled-out intermediate region 16 and preferably subsequently compacted.
[0027] According to the invention, the locking ring 30 has a substantially dimensionally stable annular body 32, on the underside of which tooth-like removal teeth 34 are formed or arranged, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 Such a locking ring 30 can be directly inserted into an existing road surface 10 in the manner of a drilling or milling tool, in particular drilled or milled.
