Existing disinfectants, despite their effectiveness in eliminating pathogens, often damage the skin's natural protective layer due to high alcohol content and frequent use, necessitating a need for alternative skin-care products to rebuild the damaged layer and limiting their use to necessary situations.
A biocide-free hygiene gel with a low alcohol content (5-35%) and a refatting system comprising isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol, and 2-octyldodecanol, combined with humectants like glycerin, provides a skin-care effect and antimicrobial efficacy against viruses, bacteria, and fungi, maintaining viscosity for effective application and skin hydration.
The gel effectively reduces germ count while preventing excessive skin drying, offering hygienic cleansing and simultaneous skin care, particularly suitable for private settings.
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a hygiene gel with a skin-care effect and antimicrobial effectiveness. Furthermore, the invention also relates to a method for cleansing skin and the use of the hygiene gel for cleansing skin.
[0002] Especially in these times, when so many aspects of our lives are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become common practice for a large portion of the population to disinfect their hands with disinfectant several times a day, for example, after visiting public facilities, shopping at the supermarket, or traveling on public transport. Disinfectants effectively eliminate pathogens on the skin and surfaces, thereby minimizing the risk of infection. However, frequent or regular use of disinfectants on the skin also has the disadvantage of damaging the skin's natural protective layer.
[0003] It is therefore important to care for skin damaged by disinfectants by regularly using skin care products and thus rebuild the damaged protective layer.
[0004] To further protect the skin, it is also important to use disinfectants only when truly necessary or appropriate. For example, in private settings, such as when changing a child's diaper, it is of course important that hands are as free of pathogens as possible. However, there is no indication for the use of harsh disinfectants; this would be disproportionate, as it would cause unnecessary damage to the skin, especially with regular use.
[0005] EP 1 056 338 A1 describes disinfectant gels with a low alcohol content, which additionally contain biocidal active ingredients such as triclosan (Irgasan ®< DP-300 (Ciba)), phenoxyethanol, chlorhexidine gluconate, povidone iodine, iodophor, benzalkonium chloride, benzethonium chloride and cresol.
[0006] CN111050552 A describes antimicrobial compositions containing 18% by weight of alcohol as well as organic acids and parabens, which are no longer desired today.
[0007] DE 10 2018 120 717 A1 describes a composition with disinfectant action which contains at least 45% by weight alcohol, at least 0.3% by weight humectant and preferably a refatting system of isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol and octyldodecanol.
[0008] Further disinfectants with an even higher alcohol content are disclosed in DE 10 2016 113 210 A1, EP 3 205 211 A1 and US 4,956,170.
[0009] EP 1 685 854 B2 describes a virucidal hand disinfectant which can be in liquid or preferably gel form and contains, for example, 52.4% by weight of ethanol, 21.0% by weight of propanol as well as octyldodecanol and glycerin.
[0010] EP 0 547 727 A2 describes hand disinfectants with skin care components that are intended to provide a pleasant skin feel. The compositions each contain glycerol monoalkyl ether, which, in combination with the alcohol also present, is said to exhibit a synergistic moisturizing effect.
[0011] WO 2014 / 201541 describes liquid compositions without antimicrobial activity with an alcohol content of < 35 wt.% that are intended to produce foam when a pump is activated and therefore contain, in addition to a solubilizer, a foaming agent and a foam booster, but no propellant. Optionally, the compositions also contain a refatting agent. Object of the invention
[0012] It is the object of the present invention to provide an alternative biocide-free hygiene gel, in particular for use in the private sector, which is characterized by a skin-care effect and a good antimicrobial efficacy, which is preferably directed against viruses, bacteria and fungi. General description of the invention
[0013] The invention solves this problem with the features of the claims and in particular with a hygiene gel with skin-care effect and antimicrobial effectiveness, which contains the following ingredients: 5 to 35% by weight of alcohol, wherein the alcohol has 1 to 4 carbon atoms; at least 0.3% by weight of humectant, wherein the humectant is selected from the group consisting of glycerin, propylene glycol, butane-1,2-diol, butane-1,3-diol, and combinations thereof; and a refatting system containing isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol, and 2-octyldodecanol as compounds with refatting properties.
[0014] For the purposes of the invention, a "hygiene gel" is understood to mean a liquid composition having a viscosity of 115 mPa s to 450 mPa s, measured with a DIN measuring system 33 according to ISO 53019 at a temperature of 293.15 K and at a rotational speed of 500 rpm, wherein the composition has a hygienic effectiveness, in particular an antimicrobial effectiveness.
[0015] Antimicrobial effectiveness is understood to mean, in particular, effectiveness against viruses, bacteria and / or fungi.
[0016] According to the invention, the hygiene gel has a viscosity of 115 mPa s to 450 mPa s, preferably of 200 mPa s to 400 mPa s, and particularly preferably of 250 mPa s to 350 mPa s, each measured using a DIN measuring system 33 according to ISO 53019 at a temperature of 293.15 K and at a rotational speed of 500 rpm. Due to its gel-like consistency, the hygiene gel is particularly pleasant to use, as it can be easily applied to the skin, especially the hands, and rubbed in without the addition of water or wipes until it dries.Unlike disinfectants, which have a lower viscosity and where a small portion is often lost during application because the low-viscosity agent easily runs off the hands, the hygiene gel according to the invention remains on the skin surface due to its higher viscosity even when the hand is tilted, so that the entire hygiene gel applied to the skin surface can be used to clean the hands without loss.
[0017] In contrast to conventional disinfectants, the hygiene gel according to the invention is further characterized by its low alcohol content, which significantly contributes to preventing excessive drying of the skin, even with regular use. While other prior art compositions, which also have a low alcohol content, achieve sufficient effectiveness only with the addition of biocidally active ingredients, it was surprisingly found that a completely biocide-free hygiene gel with the low alcohol content according to the invention, in combination with a refatting system consisting of isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol, and 2-octyldodecanol, and at least one humectant, exhibits both excellent skin-care properties and good antimicrobial efficacy. The antimicrobial effectiveness is expressed in a very good reduction in germ count, which, while not comparable to that achieved by conventional disinfectants, is nevertheless entirely sufficient for areas where this is not necessary, particularly in private areas. The use of the hygiene gel according to the invention, which preferably has a drying time of a few seconds when rubbed onto the skin, therefore enables hygienic cleansing and simultaneous care of the skin to which it is applied.
[0018] The alcohol contained in the hygiene gel according to the invention is preferably selected from the group consisting of methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, butanol, isobutanol, and mixtures thereof. According to the invention, the alcohol content of the hygiene gel is 5 to 35% by weight, in particular 10 to 30% by weight, preferably 10 to 25% by weight, and particularly preferably 10 to 20% by weight.
[0019] For the purposes of the invention, a humectant is understood to mean compounds that increase skin moisture. At least 0.3% by weight of humectant is contained in the hygiene gel according to the invention. In particular, the proportion of humectant in the hygiene gel is 0.3 to 3.5% by weight, preferably 0.4 to 3.0% by weight, more preferably 0.5 to 2.0% by weight, and particularly preferably 0.5 to 1.2% by weight. One or more compounds in any combination from the group comprising glycerin, propylene glycol, butane-1,2-diol, and butane-1,3-diol can be contained as humectants in the hygiene gel according to the invention.
[0020] The hygiene gel according to the invention further contains a refatting system containing isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol, and 2-octyldodecanol as compounds with refatting properties. A "refatting system" is understood to be a combination of various compounds with refatting properties, whereby, for the purposes of the invention, a compound with refatting properties is understood to be a compound that counteracts the defatting nature of a formulation.
[0021] The aforementioned refatting system of isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol and 2-octyldodecanol has proven to be optimal for providing a hygiene gel, which also contains a humectant, with good antimicrobial effectiveness on the one hand and a good skin care effect on the other, even with a comparatively low alcohol content.
[0022] Optionally, the hygiene gel according to the invention can contain, in addition to the aforementioned refatting system, one or more further compounds with refatting properties which are selected from the group comprising or consisting of PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Dicaprylyl Ether, Lanolin, Sorbitan Sesquicaprylate, Isopropyl Myristate, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Glyceryl Laurate and combinations thereof.
[0023] The total proportion of the refatting system comprising isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol and 2-octyldodecanol and optionally further compounds with refatting properties in the hygiene gel according to the invention is preferably 0.3 to 10.0 wt.%, in particular 0.5 to 5.0 wt.% and particularly preferably 2.0 to 3.5 wt.%.
[0024] In the particularly preferred embodiment, in which the total proportion of the refatting system comprising isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol and 2-octyldodecanol and optionally further compounds with refatting properties is 2.0 to 3.5 wt.%, it is preferred that isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol and 2-octyldodecanol are each contained in the hygiene gel according to the invention at least 0.5 wt.%.
[0025] A humectant preferably contained in the hygiene gel according to the invention is glycerin, the content of which is largely responsible for the skin-care properties of the hygiene gel. While it is known from the prior art, as mentioned, for example, in WO 2018 / 015182 A1, that glycerin is said to weaken the antimicrobial properties of a composition, it was found within the scope of the present invention that the use of a combination of glycerin, the refatting system of isopropyl palmitate, myristyl alcohol, and 2-octyldodecanol, and the low alcohol content compared to conventional disinfectants, produces a hygiene gel with high antimicrobial efficacy and a skin-care effect.
[0026] According to a particularly preferred embodiment, the hygiene gel according to the invention therefore comprises or consists of glycerin, isopropyl palmitate, 2-octyldodecanol, myristyl alcohol, water and one or more alcohols having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, preferably ethanol.
[0027] Optionally, the hygiene gel according to the invention also contains one or more thickeners, for example xanthan gum and / or konjac gum. Other possible ingredients that may be present in the hygiene gel according to the invention include film formers, e.g., Amorphophallus Konjac Root Extract, preservatives, e.g., citric acid, and / or perfume.
[0028] Further optionally, the composition also contains additional skin care agents, such as urea, dexpanthenol, witch hazel, bisabolol and / or allantoin, wherein these additional skin care agents in particular have a content of up to 0.9 wt.% in the hygiene gel according to the invention.
[0029] The invention further relates to a method for cleansing skin, wherein the skin is contacted with the hygiene gel according to the invention, which is preferably distributed over the skin surface by rubbing it in until it dries. Due to its good skin-care effect and antimicrobial effectiveness, the hygiene gel according to the invention is particularly suitable for use in the home, for example, in the context of baby and toddler care.
[0030] Accordingly, the invention further relates to the use of the hygiene gel according to the invention for cleaning skin, in particular hands. Detailed description of the invention
[0031] The invention will now be described in more detail using exemplary embodiments. Example 1: Production of a hygiene gel according to the invention with skin-care and antimicrobial effects

Tab. 1: Ingredients of the hygiene gel according to the invention (Hygienegel A) Ingredient Proportion / [wt.%] Water Ad 100 Glycerin 0,70 Isopropyl palmitate 1,00 Myristyl alcohol 1,00 2-Octyldodecanol 0,80 Alcohol denat. 10,00 - 20,00 Xanthan Gum 1,0 Amorphophallus Konjac Root Extract 0,1 Citric acid monohydrate 0,05
[0033] For the production of a second hygiene gel according to the invention with skin-care and antimicrobial effects, the following ingredients listed in Table 2 were mixed in the weight proportions also indicated to form a homogeneous liquid composition (hygiene gel B). Tab. 2: Ingredients of the hygiene gel according to the invention (Hygienegel B) Ingredient Proportion / [wt.%] Water Ad 100 Glycerin 0,70 Isopropyl palmitate 1,00 Myristyl alcohol 1,00 2-Octyldodecanol 0,80 Alcohol denat. 10,00 - 20,00 Xanthan Gum 1,0 Amorphophallus Konjac Root Extract 0,1 Citric acid monohydrate 0,05 Perfume 0,1
[0034] For the production of a third hygiene gel according to the invention with skin-care and antimicrobial action, which in addition to the refatting system according to the invention also contained dicaprylyl ether as a further refatting agent, the following ingredients listed in Table 3 were mixed in the weight proportions also stated to form a homogeneous liquid composition (hygiene gel C). Tab. 3: Ingredients of the hygiene gel according to the invention (Hygienegel C) Ingredient Proportion / [wt.%] Water Ad 100 Glycerin 0,70 Isopropyl palmitate 1,00 Myristyl alcohol 1,00 2-Octyldodecanol 0,80 Dicaprylyl Ether 1,00 Ethanol 99% denatured 1% MEK 20,00 Xanthan Gum 1,0 Konjac Gum 0,1 Citric acid monohydrate 0,05
[0035] All three hygiene gels, A, B, and C, were produced by first preparing two phases, A and B. Phase A contained water and thickeners—xanthan gum in the case of hygiene gels A and B, and xanthan gum and konjac gum in the case of hygiene gel C. In all three cases, the pH of phase A was adjusted to pH 7 with citric acid.
[0036] Phase B, which consisted of the remaining components, was then stirred into Phase A, with increasing stirring over time. A pH value of between 5 and 6 was adjusted with citric acid. The mixture was then homogenized with stirring, and in all three cases, an emulsion-like gel was obtained.
[0037] The viscosity of all hygiene gels produced in this way was determined. It was 220 mPa s for Hygiene Gel A, 150 mPa s for Hygiene Gel B, and 150 mPa s for Hygiene Gel C, each measured using a DIN 33 measuring system according to ISO 53019 at a temperature of 293.15 K and a rotation speed of 500 rpm.
[0038] All three hygiene gels according to the invention are characterized by good antimicrobial effectiveness, good handling when applied to the skin (due to the gel-like consistency) and a pleasant feeling on the skin.
[0039] The features of the invention disclosed in the above description, in the examples and in the claims may be essential both individually and in any combination for the realization of the invention in its various embodiments.
