Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The invention relates to a metal corner profile for forming a corner connection between a first wall cladding attached to a first wall and a second wall cladding attached to a second wall that is forming a corner with the first wall. The invention further relates to a wall cladding system comprising the metal corner profile.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Wall claddings, and more specifically wall claddings comprising non-metal wall cladding portions or non-metal profiles, are used for instance to provide a coverage to exterior walls, interior walls or ceilings in buildings. In this context, wood is frequently used as a material for wall cladding. The wall cladding comprises for example a plurality of non-metal profiles, e.g. wooden beam profiles, coupled together. The non-metal profiles can for example be coupled together with metal profiles. A wall cladding system comprising non-metal profiles coupled by metal profiles is for example disclosed in EP4050178A1.

[0003] The wall cladding provides for instance for the aesthetic design of a building, and gives the building a particular appearance where often one or more materials are central in the eventual appearance of the building.

[0004] In addition, when using wood as wall cladding, a good thermal and acoustic insulation is obtained.

[0005] A major drawback of wall claddings comprising non-metal wall cladding portions or non-metal beam profiles, is however the flammability of the wall cladding.

[0006] Wall cladding systems for building constructions must comply with defined standards, which have constantly become more stringent over the years and constantly achieving these standards continues to be a challenge. An important European standard applicable for a construction product such as a wall cladding system is EN 13501-1 wherein a fire classification is determined based on data from defined reaction tests to fire. Applicable test methods for the cladding wall systems are the Single Burning Item test, known as EN 13823 SBI test, and the small flame test, known as EN-ISO 11925-2.

[0007] In accordance with the above mentioned standard, a defined fire reaction class is awarded to the tested wall cladding system.

[0008] When considering for example untreated wood, the classification of such a product is typically class D, which means it is a combustible material than is highly flammable, and hence this product is not acceptable in building construction work.

[0009] A known solution for improving the fire reaction is to impregnate the wood with fire-retardant salts. These fire-retardant salts ensure that a non-metal profile can be exposed longer to a fire before igniting itself.

[0010] Impregnating wood, however, raises the cost price of the non-metal wall cladding considerably. It is a relatively expensive, and not always environmentally friendly treatment of the wood. Some manners of impregnating are, on top of that, only a temporary solution, for wood that has been impregnated in such a manner may leach, whereby the fire-retardant salts will have been extracted from the wood almost completely after a number of years. After this, the leached wood is as combustible again as before the impregnation process, with a disadvantageous fire reaction as a consequence.

[0011] In addition, a further drawback of impregnated wood is that the salts attract water which can result in stains and color changes of the wood.

[0012] Hence, there is room for improving non-metal wall cladding systems, and more specifically to improve wooden wall cladding systems.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0013] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a solution for improving the fire reaction of wall cladding systems comprising non-metal wall cladding portions or non-metal profiles, so as to fulfill the fire reaction requirements for using these wall cladding systems in buildings and construction work. More specifically, the solution relates to constructions wherein walls are forming a corner and wherein these walls are provided with wall claddings.

[0014] The present disclosure is defined in the appended independent claims. The dependent claims define advantageous embodiments.

[0015] The present invention resides, at least in part, on the observation of the inventors, that for instance the standard SBI test provides for an end-use mounting wherein the wall cladding is to be tested by generating a fire in an inside corner formed by two walls provided with the wall claddings, and that parameters such as the overall flammable surface in the corner region, the size of the fire barrier in the corner region, the shape of the corner and the aerodynamics of the flames, strongly effect the test results obtained. It is therefore crucial to adequately design the corners of wall cladding systems in order to obtain successful test results for reaching an advantageous product reaction classification.

[0016] According to an aspect of the invention, there is provided a metal corner profile for forming a corner connection between a first wall cladding attached to a first wall and a second wall cladding attached to a second wall that is forming a corner with the first wall.

[0017] The metal corner profile comprises an open channel for guiding flames in case of an occurrence of a fire in a corner between the first and second wall cladding, and wherein the open channel is elongating parallel with a longitudinal axis from a first end to a second end of the metal corner profile. The metal corner profile further comprises a first coupling part and a second coupling part for coupling the open channel to respectively the first and second wall cladding, wherein the first and second coupling parts are elongating parallel with the longitudinal axis, and wherein the first coupling part comprises a first leg for insertion into a side recess of the first wall cladding and the second coupling part comprises a second leg for insertion into a side recess of the second wall cladding.

[0018] Advantageously, by providing a metal corner profile for forming a corner connection between a first and a second wall cladding, the overall flammable surface can strongly be reduced. Indeed the metal corner profile can replace a flammable surface portion of the wall claddings with a non-flammable surface portion formed by the metal corner profile. For example, when exposing a 25 cm by 25 cm corner area with fire, and using for example wooden wall claddings coupled together with a metal corner profile of 50 mm by 50 mm, a flammable surface reduction in the corner of 20% is obtained, when compared to a corner entirely formed with the wooden wall claddings without using the metal corner profile.

[0019] Advantageously, by providing a metal corner profile comprising an open channel, a chimney effect is created and hence when a fire occurs in the corner, flames can freely be guided upwards within the open channel, with minimized effect on the neighboring wall cladding.

[0020] Advantageously by providing coupling parts having legs insertable in side recesses of the wall claddings, a fire barrier is formed. Indeed, when for example a fire occurs in the corner, as a result of the barrier, flames cannot extent to the backside of the wall claddings facing the walls the wall claddings are attached to.

[0021] Preferably, the metal corner profile is made of aluminium, stainless steel, or a combination thereof.

[0022] In embodiments, the metal corner profile is manufactured by an extrusion manufacturing process.

[0023] Preferably, the open channel comprises an inner guiding surface for guiding the flames in case of fire.

[0024] In embodiments, the inner guiding surface has a plurality of surface sections elongating parallel with the longitudinal axis, and wherein the plurality of surface sections comprises at least a rounded corner section forming a rounded corner between a first section and a second section placed at an angle α with respect to the first section, a first rounded end section SE1 adjoining the first section S1 and a second rounded end section SE2 adjoining the second section S2, and wherein 60° ≤ α ≤ 120°, preferably 80° ≤ α ≤ 100°, more preferably 85° ≤ α ≤ 95°. In embodiments, the first S1 and second S2 section may be planar, i.e. straight sections. In other embodiments the first S1 and second S2 section may be curved.

[0025] Advantageously by providing an open channel comprising an inner guiding surface with a plurality of surface sections, and wherein the plurality of surface sections comprises at least a rounded corner section forming a rounded corner between a first section and a second section, a first rounded end section adjoining the first section and a second rounded end section adjoining the second section, an optimum shape for guiding the flames is obtained, such that flames can roll over the inner guiding surface and be discharged upwards in a natural way. The first and second sections, e.g. first and second planar sections or first and second curved sections, avoid that the flames would each time make a closed circular motion within the open channel, and hence with the additional first and second planar or curved sections in combination with the rounded end sections, the flames can smoothly enter and leave the open channel.

[0026] Preferably, the rounded corner section of the inner guiding surface comprises an opposing outer side having a plurality of grooves configured to vary the angle between the first and second planar or curved section.

[0027] Advantageously, by providing grooves in the outer side of the rounded corner section of the inner guiding surface, the angle between the first and second planar or curved section of the inner guiding surface can be varied, and hence the corner profile can for instance be used for corners having angles not exactly being equal to 90°.

[0028] In embodiments, the first leg and the second leg each may comprise a first projection such that the first and second leg is clampingly receivable in respectively the first and second side recess of the wall claddings.

[0029] Preferably, the open channel comprises a first outer surface portion and a second outer surface portion for forming respectively an abutment for the first wall cladding and an abutment for the second wall cladding when the first leg and the second leg are inserted into the corresponding side recesses of the wall claddings.

[0030] In embodiments, the first outer surface portion may opposing the first rounded end section of the inner guiding surface and the second outer surface portion is opposing the second rounded end section of the inner guiding surface.

[0031] Preferably, the first and the second outer surface portion are planar and oriented traverse or perpendicular with respect to respectively the first and the second section of the inner guiding surface. In this way, a planar side of the wall claddings can abut against the planar surface portions of the metal corner profile.

[0032] Preferably, the open channel comprises a first rounded edge forming a rounded transition between the inner guiding surface and the first outer surface portion and a second rounded edge forming a rounded transition between the inner guiding surface and the second outer surface portion. In embodiments, the first and second rounded edges are forming respectively a rounded transition between the first rounded end section and the first outer surface portion, and a rounded transition between the second rounded end section and the second outer surface portion.

[0033] In embodiments, the first and second leg may be beam-shaped or plank-shaped.

[0034] In embodiments, the metal corner profile may comprise at least a first spacer and a second spacer for keeping a fixed distance towards respectively the first wall and the second wall, preferably the first spacer is attached to an opposite side of the first planar or curved section of the inner guiding surface and the second spacer is attached to an opposite side of the second planar or curved section of the inner guiding surface.

[0035] Preferably, the first and second spacer each comprise a foot for increasing a pressure surface when making contact with respectively the first and second wall. In this way, a local pressure point on the backside of the wall construction is reduced.

[0036] In embodiments, the first coupling part may comprise a third leg spaced from the first leg by a first separation member so as to form a first receiving cavity for receiving a portion of the first wall cladding, and the second coupling part may comprise a fourth leg spaced from the second leg by a second separation member so as to form a second receiving cavity or receiving a portion of the second wall cladding.

[0037] Advantageously, the third leg and the fourth leg are forming a second fire barrier for prohibiting flames to reach the backside of the wall claddings.

[0038] Advantageously, the third leg and the fourth leg allow the metal corner profile to be screwed to the walls and to form in this way an invisible attachment to the walls.

[0039] In embodiments, the third and fourth leg may comprise a screw line indicating a location for screwing the screws for attachment of the metal corner profile to the first and second wall the first and second wall claddings are attached to.

[0040] Optionally, the third leg extends beyond the first leg and the fourth leg extends beyond the second leg. In this way, there is no interference with the first and second leg for screwing the screws.

[0041] In embodiments, the third and the fourth leg each may comprise at least a second projection for clampingly receiving the respective portions of the wall claddings in the first and the second receiving cavity.

[0042] According to a further aspect of the disclosure, a wall cladding system is provided comprising a first wall cladding for attachment to a first wall, a second wall cladding for attachment to a second wall forming a corner with the first wall, and a metal corner profile for forming a corner connection between the first and second wall cladding. The first wall cladding comprises a first side recess for receiving the first leg and the second wall cladding comprises a second side recess for receiving the second leg.

[0043] Advantageously, the first and second wall claddings can comprise non-metal profiles, such as for example untreated wood. Untreated wooden wall claddings are not only more favorable in cost but also environmentfriendlier than for instance wooden wall claddings impregnated with fireretarding salts.

[0044] Preferably, the first and the second wall cladding of the wall cladding system each at least comprises non-metal wall cladding portions, preferably the non-metal wall cladding portions are made of any material selected of: wood, bamboo, a modified wood, a composite material or any combination thereof.

[0045] Advantageously, by combining the metal corner profile with wall claddings, e.g. comprising untreated wood, a favorable fire reaction can be achieved in fire tests, for instance when applying the standard Single Burning Item test mentioned above. Indeed, fire tests according to standard EN 13501-1 in an end-use mounting wherein a metal corner profile according to the present disclosure is coupled with its first coupling leg to a first wall cladding of untreated wood and with its second coupling leg to a second wall cladding of untreated wood, have demonstrated that a fire reaction class B is achievable.

[0046] In embodiments, the first and the second wall cladding each comprise a plurality of non-metal profiles coupled together, preferably coupled together with metal coupling profiles.

[0047] In embodiments, the first wall cladding comprises at least a first non-metal profile and the second wall cladding comprises at least a second non-metal profile, and wherein the first and second non-metal profiles are substantially beam-shaped profiles comprising a front side and an opposite rear side elongating parallel with the longitudinal axis, two opposing lateral sides extending parallel with the longitudinal axis between the front side and the rear side, and wherein a first lateral side of the first non-metal profile comprises the first side recess for receiving the first leg and a second lateral side of the second non-metal profile comprises the second side recess for receiving the second leg.

[0048] Preferably, the non-metal profiles are made of any material selected of: wood, bamboo, a modified wood, a composite material or any combination thereof.

[0049] Preferably, a first transition between the front side and the first lateral side of the first non-metal profile is bevelled or rounded and a second transition between the front side and the second lateral side of the second non-metal profile is bevelled or rounded.

[0050] In embodiments, the metal corner profile, the first and the second non-metal profile are configured such that when the first and second leg are received in the corresponding side recesses of the first and second non-metal profiles, the first and second bevelled or rounded transition are forming a continuous extension of the inner guiding surface of the open channel for guiding the flames flowing in and / or flowing out the open channel.

[0051] In embodiments wherein the first and second coupling part comprises respectively a third and a fourth leg, the rear side of the first non-metal profile comprises a first surface recess configured for receiving the third leg and the rear side of the second non-metal profile comprises a second surface recess configured for receiving the fourth leg.

[0052] Preferably, the first non-metal profile, the second non-metal profile and the corner profile are configured such that when the first and the second leg are received in the corresponding side recesses, the first outer surface portion of the open conduit and the second outer surface portion of the open conduit abut against respectively a portion of the first lateral side of the first non-metal profile and a portion of the second lateral side of the second non-metal profile.

[0053] In embodiments, the wall cladding system, the first and the second coupling part are configured such that when the first outer surface portion and the second outer surface portion are abutting against respectively the portion of the first lateral side of the first non-metal profile and the portion of the second lateral side of the second non-metal profile, the first separation member and the second separation member are spaced from respectively the first lateral side of the first non-metal profile and the second lateral side of the second non-metal profile. In this way, space is maintained in the side recesses for taking into account a potential deformation of the non-metal profiles.

[0054] In embodiments, the metal corner profile is configured such that when the first and the second leg are received in the corresponding side recesses, the open conduit is recessed with respect to the front side of the first non-metal profile and the front side of the second non-metal profile.

[0055] A further aspect of the present disclosure relates to a use of the metal corner profile according to the first aspect of the disclosure for forming a corner connection between a first wall cladding attached to a first wall and a second wall cladding attached to a second wall that is forming a corner with the first wall.

[0059] According to a first aspect of the disclosure a metal corner profile is provided for forming a corner connection between a first wall cladding attached to a first wall and a second wall cladding attached to a second wall that is forming a corner with the first wall. Figures 1 to 6 shows an exemplary embodiment of a metal corner profile 1 and Fig.7 shows an exemplary wall cladding system 20 comprising the metal corner profile 1 illustrated on Fig. 1 to Fig.6. In Fig.8 a further embodiment of a wall cladding system 20 is shown that is comprising a further example of a metal corner profile 1 according to the present disclosure.

[0060] The metal corner profile 1 is an elongating metal profile which elongates parallel with a longitudinal axis Z, as illustrated on Fig. 1, from a first E 1 end to a second end E2 of the metal corner profile.

[0061] In embodiments, the metal corner profile 1 is made of aluminium and manufactured by for example applying an extrusion manufacturing process. In this way, the metal corner profile has a continuous profile extending parallel with the longitudinal axis Z, i.e. a cross-section of the metal profile with a plane orthogonal to the longitudinal axis Z remains the same over the entire length of the metal profile.

[0062] In other embodiments, the metal corner profile 1 is made of stainless steel or a combination of aluminium and stainless steel.

[0063] In embodiments, the metal corner profile 1 may be provided with a coating, for example a fire-resistant coating.

[0064] With reference to Fig.2, a cross-section between the embodiment of the metal corner profile 1 of Fig. 1 and a lateral plane X-Y perpendicular to the longitudinal axis Z, is shown. The lateral plane comprises for example the axes X and Y illustrated on Fig.2, and, in this example, axes X,Y and Z are orthogonal axes.

[0065] As shown on Fig.2, the metal corner profile 1 comprises an open channel 2 for guiding flames upwards in case of an occurrence of a fire in a corner between the first and second wall cladding. The open channel 2, as shown on Fig. 1, is elongating in the longitudinal direction Z from the first end E 1 to the second end E2 of the metal corner profile. An open channel has to be construed as being the opposite of a closed channel, in other words, the open channel does not comprise a fully closed inner circumferential surface. The open channel can also be interpreted as an open chimney.

[0066] The metal corner profile further comprises a first coupling part 3a and a second coupling part 3b for coupling the open channel 2 to respectively the first and second wall cladding. The first and second coupling parts are also elongating in a direction parallel with the longitudinal axis Z. The first and second coupling parts are attached to the open channel 2, e.g. as a result of an extrusion process wherein the open channel and the first and second coupling part form a single body.

[0067] With reference to Fig.8, a further example of an embodiment of a metal corner profile 1 is shown, and this metal corner profile 1 forms part of a further wall cladding system 20. The embodiment of the metal corner profile 1 shown on Fig.8, also comprises an open channel 2, a first 3a and second 3b coupling part for coupling the open channel 2 to the wall claddings 20a, 20b.

[0068] As illustrated on Fig.2, and shown in more detail on Fig.4 and Fig.5, the first coupling part 3a comprises at least a first leg 4a for insertion into a side recess of the first cladding and the second coupling part 3b comprises at least a second leg 4b for insertion into a side recess of the second wall cladding. When the first and second legs are inserted into the corresponding wall claddings, a fire barrier is formed which prohibits flames to reach out to the backside of the wall claddings. In this way, potential flammable material such as insulation material located behind the wall claddings, or walls made of flammable materials, are shielded from the flames.

[0069] In embodiments, as illustrated on Fig.4 and Fig.5, the first leg 4a and the second leg 4b each may comprise a first projection 11 such that the first and second leg is clampingly receivable in respectively the first and second side recess of the wall claddings. The projections 11 may for example be local thickenings of the walls of the first and second legs.

[0070] In embodiments, the first leg 4a and the second leg 4b may have a penetration length L1, L2 of at least 10 mm for penetrating into the respective sides recesses of the wall claddings. The penetration lengths L1 and L2 are schematically illustrated on Fig.6. The length of the first and second legs also depends on the type of wall claddings used. In embodiments, wherein the wall claddings comprises non-metal profiles, e.g. beam profiles, an optimal length for the first and second leg is defined as approximately 10% of the width B of the non-metal profiles. In Fig.7 and Fig.8, examples of wall claddings 20a, 20b comprising non-metal profiles 22a, 22b having a width B and a thickness T are shown. The penetration lengths L1, L2 of the first and second leg can be equal, but can also be different, depending on the width B of the corresponding non-metal profile that is forming the side of the wall claddings.

[0071] With reference to Fig.2, Fig.4 and Fig.5, the first leg 4a and the second leg 4b may be beam-shaped or plank-shaped, i.e. having essentially a planar shape. In other embodiments, the shape of the first and second leg may be different, for example the cross-sectional shape of the first and second leg may be conic.

[0072] In embodiments, the first and second leg may have a wall thickness WT, as schematically illustrated on Fig.6, that is between 2 mm and 7 mm, preferably between 3 and 6 mm.

[0073] As illustrated on Fig.6, the metal corner profile 1 has a visible width W1 measured along a first lateral axis X and a second visible width W2 measured along a second lateral axis Y, transverse to the first lateral axis X. The visible widths W1 and W2 are the widths of the metal corner profile 1 that remain visible after installation of the metal corner profile, i.e. after coupling the metal corner profile with the wall claddings. Generally, when the metal corner profile is installed, the first axis X is parallel with the first wall and the second axis Y is parallel with the second wall forming the corner with the first wall.

[0074] The visible widths of the metal corner profile determine what reduction of flammable surface can be obtained. In embodiments, 30 mm ≤ W1 ≤ 100 mm and 30 mm ≤ W2 ≤ 100 mm, preferably 35 mm ≤ W1 ≤ 70 mm and 35 mm ≤ W2 ≤ 70 mm, more preferably 40 mm ≤ W1 ≤ 60 mm and 40 mm ≤ W2 ≤ 60 mm. The metal corner profile replaces a flammable surface portion of the wall claddings with a non-flammable surface portion formed by the metal corner profile. For example, when exposing a 25 cm by 25 cm corner area with a fire, and using for example wooden wall claddings and a metal corner profile with W1 = 50 mm and W2 = 50 mm, then a geometrical reduction of the flammable surface of 20% is obtained for the corner area, when compared to a corner area entirely formed with the wooden wall claddings without using the metal corner profile.

[0075] In the exemplary embodiment illustrated on Fig.2, the open channel 2 comprises an inner guiding surface 6 for guiding the flames. When the metal corner profile 1 is forming a corner connection between a first wall cladding 20a attached to a first wall 40a and second wall cladding 20b attached to a second wall, forming a corner with the first wall, as illustrated on Fig.7, the inner guiding surface 6 of the open channel is facing away from the corner between the first and second wall.

[0076] The inner guiding surface 6 has a plurality of surface sections SE1, S1, SC, S2, SE2 elongating parallel with the longitudinal axis Z, as identified on for instance Fig.2 and Fig.9.

[0077] The surface sections of the metal corner profile embodiment shown on Fig.2, are further illustrated in more detail on Fig.3. The plurality of surface sections of the embodiment shown on Fig.3 comprises at least a rounded corner section SC forming a rounded corner between a first planar section S1 and a second planar section S2 placed at an angle α with respect to the first planar section, a first rounded end section SE1 adjoining the first planar section S1 and a second rounded end section SE2 adjoining the second planar section S2.

[0078] The first S1 and second S2 surface sections of the inner guiding surface 6 are however not necessarily planar sections, but may for example also be curved sections S1, S2. For example, for the embodiment of a metal corner profile as illustrated on Fig.9, the inner guiding surface 6 comprises a rounded corner section SC forming a corner between a first curved section S1 and a second curved section S2, a first rounded end section SE1 adjoining the first curved section S1 and a second rounded end SE2 adjoining the second curved section S2. As schematically illustrated on Fig.9, the second section S2 is placed at an angle α with respect to the first section S1. In this example the angle α is 90°.

[0079] The present disclosure is not limited to a corner of exactly 90° and hence the value of the angle α between the first S1 and second S2 section of the open channel 2 can be different from 90°, depending on the specific geometry of the walls forming the corner the wall cladding is to be attached to. Generally, 60° ≤ α ≤ 120°, preferably 80° ≤ α ≤ 100°, more preferably 85° ≤ α ≤ 95°.

[0080] In embodiments, the rounded corner section SC has for example a radius R between 10 mm and 40 mm, preferably a radius R between 15 mm and 25 mm. The radius R of the rounded corner SC is schematically illustrated on Fig.3.

[0081] The width W-S1 and W-S2 of the first S1 and second S2 sections, e.g. planar sections as illustrated on Fig.3, can be equal or different from each other. The width W-S1 is measured along the lateral X, which is parallel with the first planar section S 1, and the width W-S2 is measured along the lateral axis Y, which is parallel with the second planar section.

[0082] By providing the first S 1 and second S2 planaror curved sections combined with the rounded end sections SE1, SE2 an optimum surface can be obtained for guiding the flames. In these embodiments, due to the first S 1 and second S2 sections located between the rounded corner section SC and the rounded end sections SE1, SE2, the inner guiding surface 6 has not an exact circular shape. In this way, flames can more freely flow-in and flow-out of the open channel.

[0083] In embodiments, the rounded corner section SC of the inner guiding surface 6 may comprise an opposing outer side having a plurality of grooves 15 which allow to vary the angle between the first S1 and second S2 planar or curved sections. Hence, even if the angle between the first and second wall provided with the first and second wall claddings is not exactly 90°, the same metal corner profile 1 can be used by adequately bending the metal corner profile 1.

[0084] As further illustrated on Fig.2 and Fig.7, the open channel 2 may comprise a first outer surface portion 7a and a second outer surface portion 7b forming respectively an abutment for the first wall cladding and an abutment for the second wall cladding when the first leg 4a and second leg 4b are inserted into the corresponding side recesses of the wall claddings. As the first 7a and second 7b outer surface portions abut against the corresponding wall claddings, as illustrated on Fig.7, a side portion of the wall claddings is protected from flames that otherwise could reach the side portion of the wall claddings.

[0085] In embodiments, as shown on Fig.2, the first outer surface portion 7a may be a surface portion that is opposing the first rounded end section SE 1 of the inner guiding surface and the second outer surface portion 7b may be a surface portion that is opposing the second rounded end section SE2 of the inner guiding surface.

[0086] In embodiments, as shown on Fig.2 and Fig.9, the first 7a and the second 7b outer surface portion may be planar and oriented transverse or perpendicular with respect to respectively the first S1 and the second S2 planar or curved section of the inner guiding surface 6. In this way, the first and second outer surface portions match with a planar side surface of the wall claddings, as illustrated on Fig.7.

[0087] In embodiments, as further illustrated on Fig.2, the open channel 2 may comprise a first rounded edge 8a and a second rounded edge 8b forming a rounded transition between the inner guiding surface 6 and respectively the first 7a and second 7b outer surface portion. In embodiments wherein the inner guiding surface 6 comprises rounded end sections SE1, SE2, the first 8a and the second 8b rounded edge may form respectively a rounded transition between the first rounded end section SE1 and the first outer surface portion 7a, and a rounded transition between the second rounded end section SE2 and the second outer surface portion 7b.

[0088] The first 8a and second 8b rounded edge provide for an optimum chimney effect wherein the flames are rolling over the inner guiding surface in an upward direction. The first and second rounded edges form a protection in case flames would roll out too far and would otherwise hit the wall claddings.

[0089] In embodiments, as illustrated for example on Fig.2, and in more detail on Fig.4 and Fig.5, the first 3a coupling part may comprise a third leg 5a spaced from the first leg 4a by a first separation member 9a so as to form a first receiving cavity 10a for receiving a part of the first wall cladding, and the second coupling part 3b comprises a fourth leg 5b spaced from the second leg 4b by a second separation member 9b so as to form a second receiving cavity 10b for receiving a part of the second wall cladding. In this way, through the configuration of the legs and separation members, the first 3a and second 3b coupling part may have a U-shaped or H-shaped profile.

[0090] The third leg 5a and the fourth leg 5b are forming a second fire barrier for prohibiting flames reaching the backside of the wall claddings.

[0091] In embodiments, the third 5a and fourth 5b leg each may comprise at least a second projection 12. The second 12 projections are forming a clamp for clampingly receiving the wall claddings in the first and second receiving cavity. The projections may for example be local thickenings of the walls of the third and fourth legs.

[0092] The third 5a and fourth 5b leg not only provides for a second fire barrier, the legs also allow to attach the metal corner profile to the walls, as schematically illustrated on Fig.7. In embodiments, the third 5a and fourth 5b leg may comprise a screw line 13 indicating a location for screwing screws when attaching the metal corner profile to the first and second wall. As shown on Fig.5 and Fig.6, the screw line 13 may for example have a triangular cross-sectional shape. Generally, the screw line is an area where the wall thickness of the metal corner profile is reduced to facilitate screwing of the screws. In Fig.6, two screws 18a, 18b are shown that are screwed through the screw line 13 of respectively the third 5a and the fourth 5b leg.

[0093] In embodiments, the third leg 5a extends beyond the first leg 4a and the fourth leg 5b extends beyond the second leg 4b, i.e. the third leg 5a is longer than the first leg 4a and the fourth leg 5b is longer than the second leg 4b. This allows to define the location of the screw line such that that the screws can easily be screwed without interference with the first leg or second leg.

[0094] In some embodiments, as illustrated on Fig.4 and Fig.5, the third leg 5a and the fourth leg 5b may comprise a bendable corner element 14 configured such that when the parts of the first and second wall claddings are being received in the first 10a and second 10b receiving cavities, the bendable corner can bend to allow more space when needed to facilitate the receiving of the wall cladding parts in the receiving cavities. The bendable corner element 14 may comprise a notch allowing to bend the bendable corner element.

[0095] The metal corner profile 1 shown on Fig.8 is an example of a metal corner profile 1 wherein the first 3a and second 3b coupling part comprise a first 4a and a second leg 4b insertable in the side recesses of the wall claddings, but wherein no third and fourth leg is provided as is the case for the embodiment shown for example on Fig.2 and Fig.7. Hence, in this example, the non-metal profile 1 is also not directly attached to the walls. In the example shown on Fig.8, the wall claddings, e.g. composed of non-metal profiles 22a, 22b, are for example attached to the walls by screws 19a, 19b and the non-metal profiles are coupled to the wall claddings through the first 4a and second 4b leg that are clampingly inserted in the corresponding side recesses 21a,21b of the wall claddings.

[0096] In embodiments, as shown on Fig.2, the metal corner profile may further comprise at least a first spacer 16a and a second spacer 16b for keeping a fixed distance towards respectively the first wall and the second wall when the first 4a and second 4b leg are received in the recesses of the wall claddings. The first and second spacer are attached to the open channel 2. In embodiments the first and second spacer can be formed as part of an extrusion process for manufacturing the metal corner profile. In other embodiments, the first 16a and second 16b spacer can be welded to the open channel 6.

[0097] In embodiments, the first spacer 16a may be attached to an opposite side of the first planar or curved section S 1 of the inner guiding surface 6 and the second spacer 16b may be attached to an opposite side of the second planar or curved section S2 of the inner guiding surface 6.

[0098] In embodiments, the first 16a and second 16b spacer each may comprise a foot 17a, 17b, as schematically shown on Fig.2, for increasing a pressure surface when making contact with respectively the first and second wall the wall claddings are attached to.

[0099] According to a second aspect of the disclosure, a wall cladding system 20 is provided. A cross-sectional view of an exemplary embodiment of a wall cladding system 20 is shown on Fig.7 and a cross-sectional view of a further embodiment of a wall cladding system 20 is shown in Fig.8. The wall cladding system 20 comprises a first wall cladding 20a for attachment to a first wall 40a and a second wall cladding 20b for attachment to a second wall 40b forming a corner with the first wall 40a. The wall cladding system further comprises a metal corner profile 1 as discussed above. In Fig.7, the trajectories of two exemplary flames 30a, 30b are schematically shown.

[0100] The first wall cladding 20a comprises a first side recess 21a configured for receiving the first leg 4a and the second wall cladding 21b comprises a second side recess 21b configured for receiving the second leg 4b.

[0101] The use of the metal corner profile for improving the fire classification of the wall cladding system is especially beneficial when the first and the second wall cladding each at least comprises wall cladding portions made of a non-metal material. For example when the wall cladding comprises wall cladding portions made of any material selected of: wood, bamboo, a modified wood, a composite material or any combination thereof.

[0102] In embodiments, the first wall cladding 20a and the second wall cladding 20b each may comprise a plurality of non-metal profiles 22a, 22b coupled together, preferably coupled together with metal profiles. Generally, each of the non-metal profiles 22a, 22b are substantially beam-shaped profiles comprising a front side 24a, 24b and an opposite rear side 25a, 25b elongating parallel with the longitudinal axis, and two opposing lateral sides extending parallel with the longitudinal axis between the front side and the rear side. Such a beam-shaped profile is considered to comprise also a plank-shaped profile. An example of such a type of wall cladding comprising non-metal beam-shaped profiles is for example described in EP4050178A1.

[0103] In embodiments, the non-metal profiles are made of any material selected of: wood, bamboo, a modified wood, a composite material or any combination thereof.

[0104] In embodiments wherein the wall cladding comprises a plurality of non-metal profiles coupled together, a first non-metal profile 22a is forming a longitudinal side of the first wall cladding 20a and a second non-metal profile 22b is forming a longitudinal side of the second wall cladding 20b. In these embodiments, the metal corner profile 1 is coupled to the first and second non-metal profiles forming the sides of the wall claddings.

[0105] As illustrated on Fig.7 and Fig.8, the wall claddings have a thickness T measured between a front side and a rear side of the wall claddings 20a, 20b. For embodiments wherein the wall claddings comprise non-metal profiles, e.g. wooden beam profiles, the thickness T of the wall claddings corresponds to the thickness of the non-metal profiles measured between a front 24a, 24b and a rear side 25a, 25b of the non-metal profile. The thickness T of the wall claddings is generally equal or larger than 10 mm, preferably equal or larger than 15 mm. In Fig.7 and Fig.8 examples of wall claddings 20a,20b comprising non-metal profiles 22a, 22b having a thickness T and a width B are shown.

[0106] In embodiments, when the non-metal profile 1 is installed for forming a wall cladding system 20, the longitudinal axis Z of the non-metal profile may be parallel with a vertical axis associated to the walls the wall claddings are attached to.

[0107] In embodiments, the wall cladding, e.g. a plurality of coupled non-metal profiles, may be directly attached to a facade or an interior wall.

[0108] In other embodiments, the wall cladding system may further comprise a fastening system that is interfacing between the non-metal profiles 22a, 22b and for example a facade wall or an interior wall. The fastening system may for instance be a framework that is easy to mount to the facade or to the interior wall. Mounting the framework may for instance only require that at a limited number of points of the facade or interior wall a hole is to be drilled for insertion of an anchoring element from which the framework is to be suspended. Such an anchoring element can for instance extend through the facade or interior wall, whereby it is achieved that a loadbearing connection between the facade or interior wall and the framework is formed. The framework may then further provide for the simple taking up of the non-metal profiles. By providing a fastening system, the number of holes to be drilled in the facade or interior wall can be limited.

[0109] In Fig.7 and Fig.8, embodiments are shown wherein the first wall cladding 20a comprises at least a first non-metal profile 22a and the second wall cladding 20b comprises at least a second non-metal profile 22b. As illustrated on Fig.7 and Fig.8, a first lateral side 23a of the first non-metal profile 22a comprises the first side recess 21a for receiving the first leg 4a and a second lateral side 23b of the second non-metal profile 22b comprises the second side recess 21b for receiving the second leg 4b.

[0110] In embodiments, a first transition between the front side 24a and the first lateral side 23a of the first non-metal profile 22a may be bevelled or rounded and a second transition between the front side 24b and the second lateral side 23b of the second non-metal profile 22b may be bevelled or rounded. The advantage of using rounded corners is that heat conduction of a hot airflow during a fire, is improved. As a result, the heat accumulates less fast and so it takes longer for the non-metal profile to catch fire.

[0111] In the embodiment shown on Fig.7 and Fig.8, the first and second transitions between the front and lateral sides of the non-metal profiles 22a, 22b are rounded transitions. The rounding may have a radius which is a range between 1 and 10 mm, preferably between 2 and 5 mm, more preferably between 2 and 4 mm.

[0112] In embodiments, as schematically illustrated on Fig.7 and Fig.8, the metal corner profile 1 and the first and second non-metal profiles 22a, 22b may be configured such that when the first 4a and second 4b legs are received in the corresponding side recesses 21a, 21b, the first bevelled or rounded transition of the first non-metal profile 22a and the second bevelled or rounded transition of the second non-metal profile 22b are forming a continuous extension of the inner guiding surface 6 for guiding the flames flowing in and / or flowing out the open channel 2. In other words, the open conduit 2 of the corner profile 1 may be recessed with respect to the front side 24a of the first non-metal profile 22a and the front side 24b of the second non-metal profile 22b. This improves the chimney effect of the open channel 2 and prevents flames from settling on the front side of the non-metal profiles.

[0113] In embodiments wherein the first and second wall cladding comprise respectively a first and second non-metal profile, the rear side 25a of the first non-metal profile 22a may comprise a first surface recess 26a configured for receiving the third leg 5a and the rear side 25b of the second non-metal profile 22b may comprise a second surface recess 26b configured for receiving the fourth leg 5b.

[0114] In embodiments, the first non-metal profile 22a, the second non-metal profile 22b and the corner profile 1 are configured such that when the first 4a and the second 4b leg are received in the corresponding side recesses 23a, 23b, the first outer surface portion 7a of the open conduit 2 and the second outer surface portion 7b of the open conduit 2 abut against respectively a portion of the first lateral side 23a of the first non-metal profile 22a and a portion of the second lateral side 23b of the second non-metal profile 22b. In this way, no flames can reach side recesses of the non-metal profiles.

[0115] In embodiments, the first 3a and the second 3b coupling part are configured such that when the first outer surface portion 7a and the second outer surface portion 7b are abutting against respectively the first lateral side of the first non-metal profile 22a and the second lateral side of the second non-metal profile 22b, the first separation member 9a and the second separation member 9b are spaced from respectively the first lateral side of the first non-metal profile 22a and the second lateral side of the second non-metal profile 22b. In this way, some space is formed in the first 10a and second 10b receiving cavity to allow the non-metal profiles to deform.
