Abstract
Description
Trunk system and assembly method
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of trunks, in particular those which can be moved by rolling using a set of wheels.
[0002] It should be noted that trunks are different from suitcases and other smaller luggage. Trunks are known as large, rigid luggage. In particular, trunks are generally larger (taller and longer) and more rigid than suitcases, and have a parallelepiped shape. STATE OF THE ART
[0003] The state of the art includes the description of luggage and methods of manufacturing such luggage which have a step of assembling a frame, for example a frame composed of angles which define a substantially parallelepiped structure on which panels are then assembled, to form a barrel, and a cover allowing the luggage to be opened and closed.
[0004] Document EP3476241A1 describes such a method of assembling this type of luggage. However, this type of luggage is not a trunk and does not have a comparable structure.
[0005] Now there is a need for larger luggage, in other words, trunks. Trunks allow for the transport of more volume and weight and are generally designed to be more solid and durable. This means that trunks must be very robust. The sides of this type of trunk are parallel in pairs, with adjacent sides forming right angles. The edges of such trunks must be protected by sockets that ensure the reinforcement of these edges.
[0006] However, it is difficult to ensure both the rigidity and flexibility required for such trunks.
[0007] The invention aims to provide trunks having both high rigidity and suitable flexibility. The trunks according to the invention are thus robust and durable. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such trunks. PRESENTATION OF THE INVENTION
[0008] More specifically, the invention relates to a trunk system comprising a barrel and an opening lid, the barrel and the opening lid each comprising a parallelepiped frame composed of a set of rigid panels, including a rigid panel forming a bottom and four rigid panels forming side walls, each parallelepiped frame having an opening defined by the absence of a rigid panel opposite the bottom, the side walls being parallel two by two and being orthogonal when they are adjacent, the rigid panels being engaged in grooves arranged in angles, the angles being assembled by means of assembly members, each assembly member having three feet, each foot comprising a fixing member cooperating with a complementary fixing member belonging to each end of the angle,so as to fix three angle irons to an assembly member to form a right-angled apex of the corresponding parallelepiped frame, the angle irons defining edges of the parallelepiped frame of the barrel or of the opening cover, the opening of the parallelepiped frame of the barrel being intended to be closed by the opening cover pivotally mounted on the barrel, the openings of the barrel and of the opening cover being placed opposite each other, at least one edge of the parallelepiped frame of the barrel and / or of the opening cover being covered from the outside by at least one respective socket assembled by means of mechanical fixing means to the rigid panels on either side of the angle iron corresponding to the edge, the mechanical fixing means being configured to connect, by passing through them, the at least one socket to the rigid panels on either side of the angle iron, and the mechanical fixing means not passing through the angles or the assembly members, the at least one socket ensuring a joint between adjacent and orthogonal rigid panels on either side of the corresponding angle, and said rigid panels thus being engaged in the angles without being fixed to them.,
[0009] The trunk systems according to the invention have in particular the advantage of having both suitable flexibility and great robustness because the solid sockets ensure the protection of the edges, improving the rigidity of the structure of the trunk, while being stitched or nailed or riveted, for example, directly into the panels, on each side of the angle iron, but not in the angle iron itself or in the assembly members or "connectors" which ensure the connection between the different angles at each vertex of the parallelepiped structure of the trunk system.
[0010] There is thus flexibility, in other words a degree of freedom, at each interface between an angle iron and a panel, ensuring the structure has adequate flexibility (flexibility is also ensured by the choice of the panels themselves).
[0011] Advantageously, the mechanical fixing means comprise a stitching, the stitching being carried out through the rigid panels on either side of the angle iron and the stitching not passing through the angle irons or the assembly members.
[0012] According to one embodiment, the angles have grooves having an L-shaped section and the rigid panels have a fold on at least a portion of their edges, in particular at a right angle, towards the inside of the corresponding parallelepiped frame, so as to form a peripheral edge having at least one portion having an L-shaped section, the peripheral edges of the rigid panels being engaged in the grooves provided correspondingly in the angles, so as to ensure the engagement of the rigid panels on the angles.
[0013] According to one embodiment, the angles are fixed to the assembly members by means of fixing screws.
[0014] Advantageously, the trunk system comprises a reinforcing frame fixed to the barrel at the opening of the parallelepiped frame of the barrel and / or the parallelepiped frame of the opening lid.
[0015] In particular, the reinforcement frame can be made of carbon fiber.
[0016] According to one embodiment, at least one accessory part among: one or more gripping handles, one or more locking locks, one or more hinges, an inner lining, one or more fasteners, one or more hasps, is fixed to the reinforcement frame.
[0017] According to one embodiment, the trunk system comprises a strip encircling the parallelepiped frame of the barrel at a peripheral edge on the opening side, the strip projecting, the projection being configured to guide the opening lid when it is closed and to contribute to the rigidity between the barrel and the opening lid when the trunk system is used.
[0018] Advantageously, the trunk system also includes removable corners to protect the tops of each parallelepiped frame.
[0019] The present invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a trunk system as briefly described above, according to which, for each parallelepiped frame:
[0020] we cut rigid panels,
[0021] right-angled folds are made of portions of the peripheral edge of the rigid panels, so as to form a peripheral edge of the rigid panels having at least one portion having an L-shaped section,
[0022] the peripheral edge of each rigid panel is engaged in grooves having an L-shaped section arranged on angles,
[0023] the angles in which the rigid panels are engaged are assembled on assembly members to form each parallelepiped frame, then,
[0024] a canvas is placed to sheathe the rigid panels belonging to each parallelepiped frame from the outside,
[0025] sockets are placed on each edge of each parallelepiped frame,
[0026] mechanical fixing means are installed to fix each socket to two adjacent rigid panels, the mechanical fixing means being installed on each side of the corresponding angle iron, the mechanical fixing means passing through, by perforating them, the socket and the corresponding rigid panel and the mechanical fixing means not passing through the angle iron or any of the corresponding assembly members,
[0027] so as to form on the one hand the barrel and on the other hand the opening cover,
[0028] the barrel and the opening lid are assembled, the opening lid being pivotally mounted on the barrel.
[0029] According to the invention, the canvas may be made of leather or any other suitable facing material.
[0030] According to one embodiment, the mechanical fixing means consist of a stitching.
[0031] According to an advantageous implementation method, the rigid panels are marked to facilitate the folding of at least a portion of their peripheral edge.
[0032] According to one method of implementation, a reinforcing frame is also fixed to the parallelepiped frame of the barrel and / or to the parallelepiped frame of the opening cover. PRESENTATION OF FIGURES

[0049] The invention relates to a trunk system and a corresponding manufacturing method. Figures 1 to 3 show an example of a trunk system 1 according to the invention, respectively in isometric view, in top view and in side view.
[0050] As can be seen on the or the, such a trunk system 1 may sometimes be referred to as a “trolley” type trunk, i.e. comprising casters 4 and a telescopic handle 6 for moving by rolling on the ground. The trunk system comprises a barrel 110 and an opening lid 120. The opening lid 120 is for example pivotally mounted on the barrel 110, via hinges 9.
[0051] The barrel 110 is formed from an assembly of angles 2 visible in the. The angles 2 are assembled to form a parallelepiped frame. Five rigid panels 11, as shown in the, are engaged in grooves 21 arranged in the angles 2 so as to form such a parallelepiped frame. Generally speaking, the rigid panels 11 are preferably composed of a material suitable for the intended use, and consequently chosen for its properties of strength and lightness, and compatibility with the method of fixing the sockets to the rigid panels, in particular the stitching, described in detail below. In particular, the rigid panels 11 may be composed of a material from the family of self-reinforced thermoplastics, such as srPET (for “self-reinforced polyethylene terephthalate”), srPLA (for “self-reinforced polylactic acid”), etc.The rigid panels may, for example, be made of srPP (for “self-reinforced polypropylene”). The parallelepiped frame of the barrel 110 has an upper opening intended to be closed by the opening cover 120, itself configured to be mounted, for example in a pivoting manner, on the barrel 110.
[0052] With reference to the, the angles 2 of the parallelepiped frame of the barrel 110 are connected to each other by assembly members 3. The assembly members 3 are three-axis connecting elements, designated tripods.
[0053] Preferably, the grooves 21 arranged in the angles 2 have an L-shaped section and the rigid panels 11 have a fold 12 over all or part of their peripheral edge. To this end, for example, a weakness is created by digging a wake in the material of the rigid panel 11, so as to reduce the thickness of the rigid panel 11 along an axis parallel to the edge, for example at a distance of between 2 mm and 6 mm from the edge. This locally created weakness allows easier folding of the rigid panel 11. Rigid panels 11 are thus obtained having at least a portion of their peripheral edge having a fold 12 and therefore an L-shaped section.
[0054] With reference to the, which shows a sectional view of a top of a parallelepiped frame of the trunk system 1, a canvas 90 can be arranged from the outside on the periphery of the frame thus created by the assembly of angles 2 fixed together by means of assembly members 3, and rigid panels 11. The canvas 90 makes it possible to sheathe the panels 11. The canvas 90 can be made of leather or another facing material. For example, the canvas 90 can be a metal strip, a look film, or any other material suitable for this use of facing and dressing a trunk.
[0055] Still with reference to the, sockets 50 are put in place on the edges of the parallelepiped frame, from the outside of the volume defined by said frame, to protect the edges of the trunk system 1.
[0056] Also with reference to the, according to the invention, the sockets 50 are assembled to the rigid panels 11 by installing mechanical fixing means capable of passing through, in other words perforating, the sockets 50 and the rigid panels 11 in order to ensure fixing of the sockets 50 to the rigid panels 11. The mechanical fixing means may consist of nails or rivets, the combination of the two, or any other similar means, for example. In the embodiment described in more detail below, the mechanical fixing means consist of stitching, in other words sewing.
[0057] As can be seen in the figure, the stitching 51 is thus made through each socket 50 and each rigid panel 11 of the barrel 110. The stitching 51 does not pass through the angle irons 2 or the assembly members 3 of the barrel 110. In the case where the fixing means are nails or rivets, or any other similar means, the same applies: the fixing means pass through the socket 50 and the respective rigid panel 11, on either side of the angle iron 2, without passing through either the angle iron 2 or the assembly members 3.
[0058] The opening cover 120 is also formed from an assembly of angles 2 in which rigid panels 11 are engaged by translation, the angles 2 being fixed to each other via assembly members 3 visible on the. Sockets 50 are arranged on the edges of the opening cover 120 and mechanically fixed, for example stitched, in other words sewn, to the rigid panels 11, the stitching 51 passing neither through the angles 2 nor the assembly members 3 of the cover 120. The stitching 51 is made through each socket 50 and each rigid panel 11 of the opening cover 120
[0059] The method of manufacturing a trunk system 1 is described below, according to one embodiment.
[0060] Manufacturing process
[0061] The rigid panels 11 are, for example, panels made of self-reinforced thermoplastic material, such as srPLA, srPET or srPP for example, cut from semi-transformed or consolidated plates of the chosen self-reinforced thermoplastic material, for example comprising a plurality of plies, in particular, by way of illustration, seven plies. These rigid panels 11 shown in particular on the can be obtained by laser cutting or by any other suitable process.
[0062] The creation of the weakness to facilitate folding can also be achieved, for example, by means of a partial cut in the thickness, in particular by means of a laser cutting technique or by means of another suitable technique. The rigid panels 11 are in particular preferably incised in this way a few millimeters from the edge, for example 3 mm from the edge, over a part of their thickness, for example half of their thickness, in order to facilitate folding.
[0063] The rigid panels 11 made of self-reinforced thermoplastic material are cut to the size of each face of the shell of the trunk system 1, the shell corresponding to the parallelepiped structure of the trunk system 1 and having two parts, one for the barrel 110 and the other for the cover 120.
[0064] By means of the incision, for example made by laser cutting, a groove is created, in other words a “weakness”, for example approximately 3 mm from the edge at mid-thickness of the rigid panel 11.
[0065] With reference to the, as well as to the diagram of the, the fold(s) 12 of the rigid panel 11 are then engaged in one or more grooves 21 provided in each angle iron 2.
[0066] According to one embodiment of the proposed manufacturing method, the rigid panels are first dressed, in other words covered and sheathed, with canvas 90 (made of leather or any other facing material suitable for this use, as indicated previously) sheathing the rigid panels 11 from the outside.
[0067] The angles 2 are assembled on the assembly members 3 to which they are fixed, for example by screwing. The assembly members 3 make it possible to join and fix together angles 2 in three directions forming a three-dimensional right angle.
[0068] As shown in the, for the production of a parallelepiped frame of barrel 120 of the trunk system 1, the sets of angles 2 and rigid panels 11 are assembled so as to form a rectangular parallelepiped with a rigid panel 11 forming the bottom of the barrel 110 and four rigid panels 11 forming the side walls of the barrel 110, the barrel 110 being open along its last face. The opening of the barrel 110 is configured to be closed via the opening cover 120 manufactured in a similar manner to the barrel 110.
[0069] Thus, three panels are assembled by engaging them in respective grooves of angle irons 2 and the three respective ends of said angle irons 2 are fixed to an assembly member 3, which may be a connector made of plastic or another suitable material, in particular a “tripod” as shown in the figure. The assembly member 3 makes it possible to secure three angle irons 2. Three rigid panels 11 with folded edges 12 being engaged in each angle iron 2, the parallelepiped framework of the barrel 110 is thus produced. The parallelepiped framework of the opening cover 120 is produced in a similar manner.
[0070] The assembly member 3, also referred to as a tripod, engages in the three angles 2 forming a three-dimensional right angle to connect them together. The angles 2 are then fixed to the tripods by screwing or by any other suitable assembly means, for example by means of screws and inserts.
[0071] It is noted that an advantage of the invention, by this assembly of rigid 11-plane panels – apart from their folded peripheral edge (folds 12) at right angles, via the angles 2 and the assembly members 3 (or tripods), a rectangular parallelepiped is produced having right angles, without a draft angle as is necessary when using thermoforming and / or plastic injection or thermocompression technology.
[0072] The faces of the frame of the barrel 110, like those of the opening cover 120, are here flat and regular, without concave or convex portion, unlike the luggage shells manufactured by thermoforming and / or thermocompression and / or any other method of obtaining by molding, including in self-reinforced thermoplastic material.
[0073] As a manufacturing method, it is also noted that this technique, according to the invention, of assembling rigid panels 11 assembled by means of angles 2 and assembly members 3 of the tripod type (or other equivalent assembly members) also makes it possible to easily vary the respective volumes of the barrel 110 and the opening cover 120 of a trunk system 1.
[0074] A canvas 90 (made of leather or any other facing material suitable for this purpose, as indicated previously) is arranged to provide an external sheathing of the rigid panels 11 of the frame of the barrel 110. The same applies to the opening cover 120.
[0075] Then, sockets 50 are provided, as visible in the figure, to protect the edges of the frame of the barrel 110. The same applies to the opening lid 120. As is known in the technical field of trunk systems, the sockets 50 constitute reinforcements in the form of right-angled corners fixed to the outside of the barrel 110 or the opening lid 120. A socket is thus an elongated part having a V-shaped section, made of flexible and resistant material and configured to cover an edge of a trunk system 1 at the junction between two rigid panels 11. The sockets 50 thus make it possible to protect the edges of the trunk system 1. The sockets 50 are for example made of leather or lozine (which is a flexible and resistant material made from vulcanized paper) or any other material having similar characteristics of flexibility and resistance.
[0076] A socket 50 is placed on each edge at the junction of two rigid panels 11 and is mechanically fixed. For example, the socket 50 is stitched and sewn through the rigid panel 11, on each side of the angle iron 2, without stitching the angle iron 2 or the assembly member 3, to consolidate, reinforce and stiffen the frame of the barrel 110, composed of angle irons 2, rigid panels 11 assembled by engaging the L-shaped edges of each rigid panel 11 in a groove 21 of an angle iron 2 and by fixing the angle irons 2 together via the assembly members 3. The same applies to the opening cover 120.
[0077] This increases the robustness of the trunk system 1.
[0078] As shown in the, according to one embodiment, the sockets 50 are stitched onto the rigid panels 11. To this end, the stitching is done through the sockets 50 and through the rigid panels 11. The stitching 51 through the rigid panels 11, in particular made of self-reinforced thermoplastic material, and the sockets 50, to sew the sockets 50 to the rigid panels 11, makes it possible to consolidate the frame of the barrel 110. The same applies to the opening cover 120. The edges of the frame of the barrel 110 are thus protected and the junctions of the assemblies of angle irons 2 and rigid panels 11 are hidden. The same applies to the opening cover 120.
[0079] At the same time, the trunk system 1 according to the invention retains a flexibility suitable for absorbing mechanical stresses experienced by the trunk system 1, making it possible to increase its strength and durability. Indeed, in the embodiment involving stitching in particular, the sewing threads do not pass through the corners 2 or the assembly members 3. As a result, there remains a possibility of sliding of the rigid panels 11 in the grooves 21 of the corners 2 and a very limited possibility of pivoting around the corners 2. This effect is also obtained with other mechanical means of fixing the sockets 50 to the rigid panels 11, such as nails or rivets.
[0080] The faces of the parallelepiped structure of the barrel 110 obtained are thus perfectly parallel. The same applies to the opening cover 120.
[0081] The opening cover 120 is thus assembled in a similar manner to the barrel 110. A cover frame is made from angle irons 2 and rigid panels 41 like those shown in the. The angle irons 2 have a groove 21 in which is engaged respectively an edge 42 of a rigid panel 41, for example made of self-reinforced thermoplastic material. The angle irons 2 are fixed to each other via an assembly member 3. The assembly member 3 comprises for example three feet 31, each foot 31 comprising a fixing member cooperating with a complementary fixing member belonging to each end of angle iron 2, so as to fix angle irons 2 to an assembly member 3 to form a right angle corresponding to the vertices of the parallelepiped frame of the opening cover 120.
[0082] Then, according to one embodiment, reinforcement means (reinforcing frame, strapping) and accessories (wheels, telescopic rod, handles, locks) can be assembled, as shown in the figure.
[0083] For this purpose, one or more reinforcing frames 81 are provided. There is preferably one in the barrel 110 and another identical one in the opening cover 120 fixed to the vertical angles 2, that is to say the angles 2 extending orthogonally to the rigid panel 11 forming the bottom of the parallelepiped frame of the barrel 110 and / or of the opening cover 120.
[0084] The reinforcing frame(s) 81 may be sheathed using canvas or any other suitable facing material, such as leather, decorative sheet metal, etc. Therefore, a thermoformed or non-thermoformed lining may be installed inside at least one of the parallelepiped frames, in particular inside the barrel 110.
[0085] According to one embodiment, a sheathed strip 82 is placed against the thermoformed lining of the barrel 110. As is known, a strip 82 is a band, in particular metallic or made of any other suitable rigid material, used for strapping and reinforcing the trunk system 1.
[0086] In the opening cover 120, similarly, a lining may be installed on the inner side of the opening cover 120. A separator may also be installed in the volume of the opening cover 120 or any other functional accessory such as elastic or rigid straps, etc.
[0087] The reinforcing frame(s) 81 are locked onto the frame of the barrel 110 and / or onto the frame of the opening cover 120, in particular onto angles 2 of the corresponding parallelepiped frame. The reinforcing frames 81 bear against the parallelepiped frame of the barrel 110 and the reinforcing frames 81 are fixed to the frame. If necessary, the same applies to the opening cover 120.
[0088] The presence of reinforcing frames 81 makes it possible to increase the strength of the trunk system 1. Optionally, functional accessories such as locks 7, hasps (a term which designates the movable metal part fixed to the opening lid of a piece of luggage such as a trunk in order to allow it to be closed), hinges 9, fasteners (a term which designates strips of leather or metal or textile allowing a piece of luggage to be kept open) are fixed thereto. Screws are made for locking the structure of the trunk system and fixing these accessories.
[0089] The reinforcing frames 81 are preferably made of a rigid, lightweight, and strong material, for example, aluminum, carbon fiber, ABS, SRPP, or other self-reinforced thermoplastic material.
[0090] The strip 82 may be part of a reinforcing frame 81 or be a separate part. The strip 82 projects relative to the edge of the rigid panels 11, going around the opening of the parallelepiped frame of the barrel 110. The projection made by the strip 82 is thus orthogonal to the peripheral edge going around the opening of the barrel 110, constituting a small wall of 2 to 8 mm in height for example, capable of ensuring the guidance of the opening lid 120 of the trunk system 1 during its closing in particular. The strip 82 also contributes to the rigidity between the barrel 110 and the opening lid 120 during use of the product (rolling, carrying, etc.).
[0091] A reinforcing frame 81 is thus, for example, fixed in the volume of the barrel 110 and another reinforcing frame is fixed in the volume of the opening cover 120.
[0092] According to one embodiment, the tops of the trunk system 1 are protected by rigid and removable corners 15. The removable nature of the rigid corners 15 protecting the tops of the trunk system 1 of parallelepiped shape improves the repairability of the trunk system 1 according to the invention.
[0093] According to one embodiment, the tapping 51 can stop before the top, in particular at a distance of between 10 mm and 15 mm upstream of each top.
[0094] The stitching is for example carried out approximately 2 mm from the edge of the socket 50.
[0095] The thickness of the stitching complex, for 50 leather or lozine sockets stitched into suitable srPP panels, is for example 0.9 mm, with 50 leather or lozine sockets, a 90 canvas with a thickness of between 0.5 mm and 1 mm, rigid 11 multi-ply srPP panels with a thickness of approximately 1.2 mm, i.e. a total thickness of between 2.6 mm and 3.1 mm.
