Abstract
Description
[0001] Description
[0002] Title: Portable Folding Shelter
[0003] Technical field
[0004] The present invention relates to the field of portable folding shelters which can be easily transported to the beach or a place of relaxation and which can be easily deployed to protect partially or completely from the sun's rays and the wind.
[0005] The present invention aims in particular to design a portable folding shelter that is easily deployable and foldable, space-saving, lightweight and simple to design and use.
[0006] State of the art
[0007] Portable folding shelters are known to those skilled in the art, examples being for example described in the following patent publications: FR3002262B1; EP2614200B1; FR2928953B1; and FR3044207B1.
[0008] In patent FR3002262B1, the portable folding shelter is in the form of a parasol structure with ribs and rods ensuring that the parasol is held on the ground in an inclined position, the rods allowing the installation of side panels and a base. This portable folding shelter has the function of protecting from the sun and wind, the one having a use on the beach, for example.
[0009] In patents EP2614200B1 and FR2928953B1, the portable folding shelters are more precisely tents consisting of a hoop structure formed by a base loop, an upper loop and a flexible canvas. The flexible canvas associated with the two loops allows the tent to be formed in the deployed position. The tent is folded by folding said loops so as to form coils stacked one inside the other. These portable folding shelters can accommodate one or more users and their beds, during camping.
[0010] In patent FR3044207B1, the folding shelter is in the form of a parasol with a deployable structure that includes an internal hoop and a peripheral hoop receiving a flexible canvas. This portable folding shelter has the function of protecting from the sun, the one having a use on the beach, for example.
[0011] Summary of the invention
[0012] The present invention aims to implement a portable folding shelter having a parasol function allowing protection from the sun and wind, for example at the seaside, on the beach. One objective of the invention is to design a structure that is foldable and easily deployable, space-saving and easy to transport, for example as cabin baggage in an airplane, on a bicycle basket holder, or even on foot under the arm, in the hand or around the wrist.
[0013] In this respect, the invention relates to a portable folding shelter, of the parasol type, comprising a hoop structure that is foldable in a storage position and deployable in a use position. The hoop structure comprises a single loop folded in the shape of an "eight" (in the shape of an "8") forming a small turn, a large turn and two crossed parts connecting the small turn and the large turn. In addition, the shelter comprises a fastening member configured to fix said two crossed parts together, which makes it possible to maintain the "eight" shape given to the loop due to its folding and also to maintain the dimensions of the small turn and the large turn. The shelter also comprises two connecting members each arranged on one side of the attachment member, preferably close to the two crossed parts, said connecting members each connecting the small turn to the large turn, said connecting members being configured to limit the deployment between the small turn and the large turn and maintain an acute angle formed between the small turn and a proximal part of the large turn. In other words, the loop forming a "figure eight" naturally tends to position the small turn and the large turn in the same plane due to the flexibility of said loop composed of a flexible hoop, or even several flexible hoops assembled together; the "figure eight" shaped loop is folded to angularly bring the small turn closer to the large turn, the opening angle between the small turn and the large turn naturally tending to open to bring said turns into the same plane. The presence of the connecting members therefore makes it possible to limit this opening angle in order to maintain an acute angle between the small turn and the proximal part of the large turn, that is to say the part of the large turn adjoining the small turn.
[0014] Furthermore, according to the invention, the shelter comprises a first flexible canvas having a first peripheral edge attached to the small turn by means of first assembly means, said first canvas being configured to exert a constraint on the small turn in order to maintain its circular shape, the small turn and the first canvas defining a base for receiving a ballast element. In addition, the shelter comprises a second flexible canvas having a second peripheral edge attached to the large turn by means of second assembly means, said second canvas being configured to filter the sun's rays and to exert a constraint on the large turn in order to form a curved spatula, the large turn and the second canvas defining a roof making it possible to shade a surrounding area. The terms "filter the sun's rays" are not exhaustive, meaning in particular to reduce the passage of solar rays, to let light through but not ultraviolet rays, to completely block the passage of solar rays.
[0015] Thanks to the aforementioned characteristics, the invention implements a portable folding shelter which can be deployed easily, instantly and alone, because the figure-of-eight loop formed of one or more flexible hoops naturally tends to want to return to its normal state, that is to say a flat and circular or oval loop, the deployment being however limited by the presence of the attachment member, the connecting members, the first flexible canvas and the second flexible canvas which make it possible to maintain an acute angle between the small turn forming a base intended to rest on a support surface, for example the sand of a beach, and the proximal part of the large turn which extends upwards, the second flexible canvas constraining it in such a way that the large turn forms a curved spoon or spatula. The shelter is also easily folded, limiting its size, since the large coil of the loop can be folded and folded against the small coil to form additional small coils similar to the small coil and overlapping it, the size of the folded shelter being limited to a disc.
[0016] According to one embodiment of the invention, the portable folding shelter comprises two rods and four mounting members configured to assemble, preferably by interlocking, the two ends of the rods with respectively the small turn and the large turn, respectively on the lateral sides of said shelter. Thus, a first rod has its two ends fixed respectively with the small turn and with the large turn, on one of the two lateral sides of the shelter, and a second rod has its two ends fixed respectively with the small turn and with the large turn, on the other of the two lateral sides of the shelter. Said rods assembled at their first ends with the small turn and at their second ends with the large turn make it possible to maintain the acute angle formed between the small turn and the proximal part of the large turn. This helps to stiffen the arched structure and prevent the acute angle from decreasing, i.e. the roof from folding against the base, especially when the wind is blowing too strongly.
[0017] According to a first embodiment of the portable folding shelter which is the subject of the invention, the figure-eight shape of the loop is made in such a way that, placed facing the base, the crossed parts connecting the small turn to the large turn intersect with a placement of the part connecting the left side of the small turn to the right side of the large turn, above the part connecting the right side of the small turn to the left side of the large turn, the stress exerted by the second canvas on the large turn forcing the positioning of the roof above the base.Alternatively, according to a second embodiment, the figure-of-eight shape of the loop is made in such a way that, placed facing the base, the parts connecting the small turn to the large turn intersect with a placement of the part connecting the left side of the small turn to the right side of the large turn below the part connecting the right side of the small turn to the left side of the large turn, the stress exerted by the second canvas on the large turn forcing the positioning of the roof offset from the base, that is to say opposite the base.
[0018] According to a preferred embodiment of the portable folding shelter which is the subject of the invention, the connecting members are arranged so that the acute angle formed between the small turn and the proximal part of the large turn is between 90° and 45°. Of course, variants with a smaller acute angle remain conceivable.
[0019] According to the portable folding shelter which is the subject of the invention, the loop is configured so that the large coil is folded so as to form three additional small coils folded against the small coil in the folded position of the shelter, said shelter forming a disc.
[0020] According to one embodiment of the invention, the portable folding shelter comprises a pocket for receiving accessories, said pocket being arranged in the proximal part of the large coil. This pocket will allow the user to place, for example, his tube of sunscreen, his bottle of refreshing drink, his book or magazine, his sunglasses and / or his mobile phone. Preferably, this pocket is in the form of a net, but other textile structures remain possible. Of course, variants of the shelter are also possible without this pocket.
[0021] According to one embodiment of the invention, the portable folding shelter comprises a third canvas arranged in the proximal portion of the large coil and configured to be deployed to form a wind protection wall extending laterally relative to the lateral sides of the base, said third canvas being foldable into a storage position. Thus, once the shelter is deployed, the user additionally deploys the third canvas acting as a windbreak. Of course, variants of the shelter are also conceivable without this third canvas.
[0022] According to one embodiment of the invention, the portable folding shelter comprises a tether strap arranged on the small coil and configured to hold the large coil folded against the small coil, in the folded position of the shelter. This allows the disc shape to be maintained when the shelter is folded, preventing instant redeployment if the user unexpectedly releases the folded shelter or if he does not hold it properly.
[0023] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the portable folding shelter comprises a storage bag for containing said shelter in the folded position. This allows the folded shelter to be properly stored during transport, thus preventing it from opening unexpectedly. Preferably, the bag has the shape of a disc adapted to the disc formed when the arched structure is folded. Preferably, the storage bag is configured to contain a ballast mass, for example sand, pebbles or stones, or even water when the bag is waterproof, said weighted storage bag being able to be placed on the base in the deployed position of said shelter. Thus, the shelter, which is very light in nature due to its design with a arched structure and canvas, can be kept properly in position during use, even when it is subjected to wind, which is regularly the case at the seaside, on the beach.
[0024] The invention also relates to the method of folding a folding shelter having the aforementioned characteristics which are the subject of the invention. The method comprises:
[0025] - a first step of folding down a distal end portion of the large turn towards the small turn to form two ears on said large turn;
[0026] - a second step of folding one of the two ears against the small turn, allowing the formation of a first additional small turn and part of a second additional small turn, placed against the small turn;
[0027] - a third step of folding the other of the two ears against the small turn, allowing the formation of the remainder of the second additional turn and a third additional small turn, placed against said small turn, said folded shelter forming a disc.
[0028] Thus, the shelter folds easily without dismantling the arched structure, by a succession of three folds of the large coil to cause it to form three additional small coils placed against the small coil of the loop in the shape of an "eight", so as to form a disc.

[0046] In the remainder of the description, unless otherwise indicated: the same references are used to designate the same characteristics in the figures and according to the various variants illustrated. In addition, terms such as "top, bottom, lower, upper, left, right, front, rear, side . .. will be used in consideration of the deployed position of the portable folding shelter, with its base placed on a flat surface on the ground, facing the user. Furthermore, the portable folding shelter is referred to as shelter 1.
[0047] The following description is based in particular on figures 1 to 4 and 8 to 10. The shelter 1 comprises a hoop structure 2 which comprises a single loop 3, which may consist of a single hoop whose two ends are attached to each other, for example by fitting together, or even of several hoops successively attached to each other, for example by fitting together their ends, so as to form said loop 3. This loop 3, composed of one or more hoops, thus has a flexibility allowing it to be deformed. The loop 3 is folded so as to form a figure eight, as illustrated in Figure 9, thus forming a small turn 4, a large turn 5 and two crossed parts 6, 7 connecting the small turn 4 to the large turn 5. In order to keep the loop 3 folded in the shape of an figure eight, the shelter 1 comprises a fastening member 8 making it possible to fix said crossed parts 6, 7 together at their crossing point 9.This attachment member 8 may be, for example, a textile tie 10 knotted and / or sewn at the crossing point 9, as shown in Figure 4, which prevents any risk of detachment between the two crossed parts 6, 7 and that the “8” shape of the loop 3 is undone due to the elastic return of the arch structure 2 tending to naturally bring said loop 3 back into its normal position, forming a circle or an oval.
[0048] The small turn 4 and the large turn 5 of the loop 3 folded in the shape of an “8” are folded towards each other to form an acute angle a between said small turn 4 and the proximal part 41 of said large turn 5. This acute angle a would tend to enlarge to bring the small turn 4 and the large turn 5 back into the same plane under the effect of the restoring force of the arch structure 2 which is flexible and deformed, without the presence of the two connecting members 11, 12 arranged between the small turn 4 and the large turn 5, each on one side of the attachment member 8, as illustrated in Figure 4, which limit the opening of the acute angle a to prevent a return of the small turn 4 and the large turn 5 into the same plane. Preferably, the connecting members 11, 12 each comprise a link 13 whose length is determined to preserve an acute angle a of between 90° and 45°, preferably 85° and 65°, preferably between 80° and 70°.In Figure 4, the tie 13 is attached by a knot and a seam directly to the small turn 4 and it is attached to a textile piece 14 by sewing, said textile piece 14 being attached to the large turn 5 by engagement of said large turn 5 in a sheath (not shown) of said textile piece 14.
[0049] The shelter 1 comprises a first flexible canvas 15 whose peripheral edge 16 forms a sheath in which the small coil 4 is engaged, which makes it possible to attach the first flexible canvas 15 to the small coil 4, other attachment means remaining possible between said elements. The first flexible canvas 15 is not extensible and it is sized to suitably retain the shape of the small coil 4, that of a disc. The small coil 4 and the first flexible canvas 15 form a base 17 intended to be placed on a flat surface of the ground, for example the beach by the sea or the contour surface of an outdoor swimming pool. The shelter 1 comprises a second flexible canvas 18 whose peripheral edge 19 forms a sheath in which the large coil 5 is engaged, which makes it possible to attach the second flexible canvas 18 to the large coil 5, other attachment means remaining possible between said elements. The second flexible fabric 18 is not extensible and is sized to force the large coil 5 to deform, said constraint making it possible to give the large coil 5 a curved spatula or spoon shape. The large coil 5 and the second flexible fabric 18 form a roof 20. The second flexible fabric 18 is made of a textile material making it possible to filter the sun's rays, to protect the person from ultraviolet rays, this being able to let more or less light through.
[0050] The following description is based in particular on figures 1, 5 to 7 and 9. The stress exerted by the second flexible fabric 18 on the large turn 5 and the way in which the loop 3 is folded to give it its figure-of-eight shape influences the orientation of the roof 20. When, at the level of the crossed parts 6, 7, the part 6 connecting the right side 4a of the small turn 4 to the left side 5a of the large turn 5 passes above the part 7 connecting the left side 4b of the small turn 4 to the right side 5b of the large turn, as shown in figure 5, the stresses to which the large turn 5 is subjected cause the roof 20 to shift towards the opposite side of the base 17, as shown in figure 1.Conversely, when at the level of the crossed parts 6, 7, the part 7 connecting the left side 4b of the small turn 4 to the right side 5b of the large turn 5 passes above the part 6 connecting the right side 4a of the small turn 4 to the left side 5a of the large turn, as shown in Figure 6, the stresses to which the large turn 5 is subjected cause the roof 20 to shift towards the base 17, above it, as shown in Figure 7. In Figures 5 and 6, the crossed parts 6, 7 are illustrated with different lines in order to easily distinguish the one placed above compared to the other, simply for better reading of these figures.
[0051] The following description is based in particular on figures 1 to 3 and 8. The shelter 1 comprises two rods 21, 22, the first ends 21a, 22a of the rods 21, 22 are assembled with the large turn 5, or even with the peripheral edge 19 of the second flexible canvas 18 by means of two first mounting members 23, 24 which are fixed directly or indirectly to the large turn 5 and which preferably receive by fitting said first ends 21a, 22a, on the lateral sides of the shelter 1. In a comparable manner, the second ends 21b, 22b of the rods 21, 22 are assembled with the small turn 4, or even with the peripheral edge 16 of the first flexible canvas 15 by means of two second mounting members 25, 26 which are fixed directly or indirectly to the small turn 4 and which receive preferably by fitting said second ends 21b, 22b, onto the lateral sides of the shelter 1.The presence of these two rods 21, 22 makes it possible to stiffen the arch structure 2 once the shelter 1 is deployed. These two rods 21, 22 are removable at least at their first ends 21a, 22a, which makes it possible to store them flat on the base 17, as illustrated in FIG. 8, in a very first step of storing the shelter 1. Such rods 21, 22 can also be implemented on the variant of the shelter 1 illustrated in FIG. 7.
[0052] The following description is based on Figure 7. The shelter 1 comprises a pocket 27 which is positioned in the proximal part 41 of the large turn 5, under the second flexible fabric 18 and whose lateral edges 27a, 27b are fixed to the large turn by means of textile pieces 28, 29 extending downwards the peripheral edge 19 of the second flexible fabric 18 and serving as a sheath for the large turn 5, said lateral edges 27a, 27b being sewn respectively to said textile pieces 28, 29. This pocket 27 is preferably made of a net capable of receiving accessories, for example a mobile phone, a tube of sun cream, a bottle of drink, sunglasses, a book or a magazine. The shelter 1 also comprises a third flexible canvas 30, the upper edge 30a of which is fixed by sewing to the lower edge 18a of the second flexible canvas 18, said third flexible canvas 30 being for example trapezoidal in shape and sized to extend laterally relative to the roof 20 and as far as the base 17, so as to form a screen. The lower angular ends 30b, 30c may each have an eyelet (not shown) allowing the passage of fixing stakes (not shown) which can be driven into the ground and having a hooked end retaining the eyelet, or even each have a pocket (not shown) sewn into the lower angular end, said pocket being able to be weighted by means of a weighting material found on site, for example sand, pebbles, stones, earth or water when the pockets are watertight. These characteristics of shelter 1 are also possible on the variant illustrated in particular in figures 1 and 2.
[0053] The following description is based in particular on figures 8 to 15 and explains the method of storing the shelter 1, in a folded position. When the shelter 1 has stiffening rods 21, 22, as explained previously, these are first removed and then placed on the base 17, as illustrated in figure 8. The deployed shelter 1 is then with its arched structure 2 as illustrated in figure 10, the large turn 5 forming an acute angle a with the small turn 4 which rests on the ground. The large turn 5 can be grasped at its distal end portion 31 and folded towards the small turn 4, which forms two ears 32, 33 on the large turn 5. The first ear 32 is then folded against the small turn 4, which bends the large turn 5 which then forms a first additional small turn 34 and the start of a second additional turn 35, above the small turn 4 of the base 17.The second ear 33 is then also folded against the small turn 4, which completes the formation of the second additional small turn 35 and forms a third additional small turn 36, above the small turn 4 of the base 17. The shelter 1 thus folded then forms a disc 37, as illustrated in Figure 13. The shelter 1 comprises a fastening strap 38 which makes it possible to maintain the shape of the disc 37 while avoiding the instantaneous and natural redeployment of the shelter 1 under the effect of the force exerted by the arch structure 2 which has an elasticity encouraging the loop 3 to return to a normal position. The attachment strap 38 may have its first end 38a secured by sewing to the peripheral edge 16 of the first flexible fabric 15 and its second end 38b removably attached to said peripheral edge 16, opposite the diagonal, by means of a Velcro® fastener or a snap button (not shown). The shelter 1 also comprises a storage bag 39 provided with a closure, which has the shape of a disc sized to receive the disc 37. The storage bag 39 preferably comprises a chin strap 40 facilitating transport around the wrist. A carrying strap could also be provided on the storage bag 39, to carry it over the shoulder. This principle of storage of the shelter 1 applies both with the variant of figures 1 and 2 and with the variant of figure 7. This storage bag 39 can also be filled with a ballast mass, for example sand, pebbles or stones available at the place of use of the shelter 1, said weighted storage bag 39 being able to be placed on the base 17 in order to hold it in place. When this storage bag 39 is made waterproof, it can also be filled with water in order to carry out said ballast. The storage bag 39 may be independent or, in a variant, be integral with the coil 4.
[0054] Other features are conceivable within the scope of the invention. For example, the first flexible canvas 15 may be made of a solid textile or a net; anchoring stakes may be provided to be driven into the ground, a hook shape on the stakes being caught around the small turn 4 or in eyelets arranged on the peripheral edge 16 of the first flexible canvas 15, in order to anchor the base 17 to the ground.
[0055] In a variant, the connecting members 11, 12 may each comprise a link 13 adjustable in length to modify the acute angle a between 90° and 45°, preferably 85° and 65°, preferably between 80° and 70°. The link 13 may for example consist of a strap with a buckle for adjusting the length of said strap. In the same way, the stiffening rods 21, 22 may be adjustable in length in order to adjust them to said acute angle a. As illustrated in FIG. 16, the rods 21, 22 each comprise two rod parts 211, 212 and 221, 222 which are slidably mounted relative to each other by means of a connecting piece 42, making it possible to modify the length of said rods 21, 22.The design of the connecting piece 42 as illustrated in Figure 16 advantageously allows the end 43 to be detached from the rod portion 212, 222, thereby allowing the rod portions 211, 221 to be physically separated from the respective rod portions 212, 222, which will facilitate the positioning of the rods 21, 22 on the base 17 when storing the folded shelter 1 in the storage bag 39.
[0056] The portable folding shelter 1 implemented is thus of the parasol type and comprises a foldable arch structure 2 in a storage position forming a disc 37 which can be housed in a storage bag 39, said disc 37 deploying instantly into a use position as soon as the attachment strap 38 is removed and the disc 37 is released by the user, said deployment then forming the base 17 and the roof 20 of the shelter, the base 17 resting on a ground surface and the roof shading a surrounding area of said ground surface, depending on the orientation of the shelter 1 and the position of the sun.
