Description

Field of the disclosure

[0001] The present disclosure relates to an impact crusher. More specifically, the disclosure relates to a blow bar for an impact crusher and an impact crusher comprising the same. Background art

[0002] Impact crushers are used to reduce the size of mineral materials. To this end, impact crushers comprise a fast-spinning rotor which throws the mineral material against a solid stationary impact wall. The rotor of an impact crusher is provided with blow bars, also referred to as hammers or impact bars, which, during operation of the impact crusher, impact the mineral material, resulting in its comminution. Impact bars are typically plagued with the problem of uneven wear patterns, where end portions of impact bars are worn at a considerably faster rate than the central portion. This requires frequent replacement of blow bars which is costly, both in terms of exchange of the part and in terms of the downtime required for replacing the same. Hence, there is a need for an improved blow bar.Summary

[0003] It is an object to mitigate, alleviate or eliminate one or more of the above-identified deficiencies in the art and disadvantages singly or in any combination and solve at least the above-mentioned problem. According to a first aspect there is provided a blow bar for an impact crusher having a longitudinal extension and a transversal extension. The blow bar comprises a leading face and a trailing face. The trailing face comprises a mounting portion extending along at least a portion of the longitudinal extension of the blow bar for mounting the blow bar to the impact crusher. The trailing face further comprises a recessed portion having a first extension along a portion of the longitudinal extension of the blow bar and comprising at least one recess. The recessed portion is arranged centrally with respect to the longitudinal extension of the blow bar, and the first extension is bordered by end portions of the trailing face which are not recessed.

[0004] By providing the blow bar with a centrally arranged recessed portion as disclosed above, the inventors have realized a surprising and beneficial effect on the air flow along the faces of the blow bar as it rotates with the rotor of the impact crusher. More specifically, an increased turbulence is achieved along portions of the trailing face provided with the recessed portion. Thereby an associated reduction in air pressure is achieved along corresponding portions of the leading face of the blow bar. The reduced air pressure in these portions directs the flow of wear particles from areas prone to high wear rates, such as the end portions of the blow bar, towards said portions of the leading face which experience a reduced air pressure. Consequently, a more uniform wear of the blow bar is achieved. The skilled person realizes that the meaning of wear particles in this regard, refers to wear particles with a sufficiently small size such that their movement may be affected by changes in air flow associated with a locally reduced air pressure.

[0005] Providing a recessed portion is further advantageous in that it reduces the total mass of the blow bar. This in turn reduces the energy needed for operation of the impact crusher when the blow bar is mounted therein, thus reducing operational costs and improving energy efficiency of the comminution process.

[0006] The recessed portion may have several different configurations in order to tailor the effect on the air flow and thereby the directing of wear particles as described earlier. For example, in some embodiments, the recessed portion may comprise two or more recesses, each having a first extension along a portion of the longitudinal extension of the blow bar, wherein the first extension of each of the two or more recesses is bordered by portions of the trailing face which are not recessed. By providing two or more recesses which are bordered by non-recessed portions in the longitudinal direction of the trailing face, the resulting reduction of air pressure and the associated directing of the flow of wear particles may be allocated to two or more portions of the leading face. Typically, the two or more recesses are arranged at portions of the blow bar which are prone to wear less. Correspondingly, the bordering portions of the trailing face, which are not recessed, may effectively achieve a maintained air pressure in areas prone to high wear rates when the blow bar is operating in an impact crusher. In view of the present disclosure, the skilled person realises that the resulting air pressure and air flow along the leading face of the blow bar is a complicated aerodynamic relationship which can be tailored using the embodiments disclosed herein.

[0007] In some embodiments the mounting portion of the blow bar is composed of several mounting portions which extend discontinuously in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the blow bar. In such embodiments, each recess may be associated with a discontinuity of the discontinuous extension of the mounting portions, and the first extension of each recess at least partly extends a length of the associated discontinuity.

[0008] In some embodiments, each recess is provided centrally relative to the length of the associated discontinuity.

[0009] In some embodiments, each recess is provided centrally relative to the transversal extension the blow bar.

[0010] In some embodiments, an extension of each recess in the direction of the transversal extension of the blow bar is more than half of the transversal extension of the blow bar. Alternatively, the extension of each recess in the direction of transversal extension of the blow bar is equal to the transversal extension of the blow bar.

[0011] In some embodiments, the mounting portion at least partly protrudes from the base plane and each recess is recessed relative to the base plane.

[0012] In some embodiments, the blow bar further comprises a first surface texture extending along the longitudinal extension of the blow bar at lateral portions of the trailing face, wherein the first surface texture comprises a pattern of protrusions, or depressions, or a combination thereof. The purpose of this surface texture is to further achieve a turbulent airflow along the trailing face of the blow bar and thereby, as described earlier, an associated reduction in air pressure along corresponding portions of the leading face of the blow bar. Providing depressions is further advantageous in that it reduces the total mass of the blow bar. This in turn reduces the energy needed for operation of the impact crusher when the blow bar is mounted therein, thus reducing operation costs and improving energy efficiency of the comminution process.

[0013] In some embodiments, each recess defines a recessed plane, recessed from the base plane, and the recessed plane is at least partly provided with a second surface texture comprising a pattern of protrusions or depressions or combinations thereof, which protrude or are recessed relative to the recessed plane. This is advantageous in that each recess may further reduce the air pressure experienced by the blow bar at the portion where the recess is provided when operating in an impact crusher, thus directing the flow of wear particles to such portions and thereby generating a more even wear pattern of the blow bar. Providing a second surface texture may further lead to a reduced total mass of the blow bar, which, as previously described, is advantageous.

[0014] In some embodiments, the pattern of the second surface texture is different from the pattern of the first surface texture. Alternatively, the pattern of the second surface texture is the same as the pattern of the first surface texture.

[0015] In some embodiments wherein the recessed plane is at least partly provided with a second surface texture, the recessed plane is further provided with a third surface texture comprising a pattern of protrusions or depressions or combinations thereof relative to the recessed plane, and the third surface texture has a different pattern than the pattern of the second surface texture.

[0016] In some embodiments, the pattern of the third surface texture is different from the pattern of the first surface texture.

[0017] In some embodiments, the pattern of each of the first, second, and third textures is selected from; a directional pattern, a bi-directional pattern, a multi-directional pattern, a wave pattern, a dimple pattern, a random pattern, or combinations thereof.

[0018] According to a second aspect, there is provided a use of a blow bar as disclosed herein in an impact crusher.

[0019] According to a third aspect, there is provided an impact crusher comprising a blow bar as disclosed herein.

[0020] Effects and features of the second and third aspects are largely analogous to those described above in connection with the first aspect.

[0021] Embodiments mentioned in relation to the first aspect are largely compatible with the second and third aspects. It is further noted that the inventive concepts relate to all possible combinations of features unless explicitly stated otherwise.

[0022] A further scope of applicability of the present disclosure will become apparent from the detailed description given below. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the disclosure, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the scope of the disclosure will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.

[0023] Hence, it is to be understood that this disclosure is not limited to the particular component parts of the device described as such device may vary. [0026] The present disclosure will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which currently preferred embodiments of the disclosure are shown. This disclosure may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided for thoroughness and completeness, and to fully convey the scope of the disclosure to the skilled person.

[0027] In order to disclose the inventive concept of the present invention Fig. 1 shows, highly schematically, the profile 102 of a leading face 101 of a conventional blow bar 100 provided without any recessed portion or surface texture. The uneven wear profile 103 associated with such a blow bar is superimposed onto the unworn profile 102 of the leading face 101. The higher wear rate seen in the corner areas 104 of the blow bar 100 shown in Fig. 1 is due to a higher air flow towards the corner areas 104. This is in part the result of a locally lower air pressure 400 which allows the directing of the flow of wear particles 300 towards these areas, resulting in an increased wear rate.

[0028] Next Fig. 2 shows, highly schematically, the profile of a leading face 201 of a blow bar 200 wherein the blow bar 200 comprises a recessed portion on its trailing face (not shown) according to the present disclosure. As disclosed earlier, by providing the blow bar 200 with a centrally arranged recessed portion, the inventors have realized a surprising and beneficial effect on the air flow 400 along the faces of the blow bar 200 as it rotates with the rotor of the impact crusher. More specifically, an increased turbulence is achieved along portions of the trailing face provided with the recessed portion (not shown). Thereby an associated reduced air pressure 400 is achieved along corresponding portions of the leading face 201 of the blow bar 200. The reduced air pressure 400 in these portions directs the flow of wear particles 300 from areas prone to high wear rates, such as the end portions of the blow bar, also referred to as corner portions 204, towards said portions of the leading face which experience a reduced air pressure. Consequently, a more uniform wear profile 203 of the blow bar 200 is achieved.

[0029] Now with reference to Fig. 3, an exemplifying embodiment of a blow bar 10 for an impact crusher according to the present disclosure is shown. The blow bar 10 has a longitudinal extension L and a transversal extension T. The blow bar 10 comprises a leading face (not shown) and a trailing face 12, opposite the leading face. The trailing face 12 comprises a mounting portion 14 extending along a portion of the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10 for mounting the blow bar 10 to an impact crusher. Here, the longitudinal extension of the mounting portion 14 is slightly shorter than the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10. The trailing face 12 further comprises a recessed portion 15 having a first extension E along a portion of the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10 and comprising at least one recess 16. The recessed portion 15 is arranged centrally with respect to the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10, and the first extension E of the recessed portion 15 is bordered by end portions 20 of the trailing face 12 which are not recessed.

[0030] Typically, and as shown in this exemplifying embodiment, the mounting portion 14 is arranged centrally with respect to the transversal extension T of the blow bar 10. The recessed portion 15 is further arranged at one side of the mounting portion 14, preferably close to a first longitudinal end 22 of the blow bar 10. In other embodiments, the blow bar 10 further comprises a second recessed portion, mirrored from the recessed portion 15 along the longitudinal extension of the mounting portion 14. Such an embodiment allows the blow bar 10 to be flipped and mounted anew to an impact crusher once a side of the leading face is worn out.

[0031] Typically, the blow bar may have a longitudinal extension L of from 500 mm to 3000 mm, and impact crushers in which the blow bar may be used typically process rocks with a size of up to around 1600 mm in diameter. With this said, it is certainly advantageous to provide a blow bar which wears more evenly such to prolong its wear life and thereby also reduce the amount of down time needed for replacing or rearranging the blow bar in the impact crusher.

[0032] Next, various alternative embodiments of the blow bar 10 shown in Fig. 3 will be disclosed. The skilled person realises that the resulting air flow along the leading face of the blow bar 10 is a complicated aerodynamic relationship which can be tailored using the embodiments disclosed herein.

[0033] Each embodiment provides alternative configurations of the recessed portion 15. It is to be understood that the embodiments disclosed may be combined in order to achieve the desired effect on the air flow along the leading face.

[0034] In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, the recessed portion 15 comprises two recesses 16. Each recess 16 has a first extension E along the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10, and the first extension E of each recess 16 is bordered by portions of the trailing face 12 which are not recessed. That is, each recess 16 is bordered, in the longitudinal direction, by portions of the trailing face 12 which are not recessed. The recessed portion 15 is arranged close to the first longitudinal end 22 of the blow bar 10.

[0035] In other embodiments, the blow bar 10 comprises a corresponding recessed portion 15 on each side of the mounting portion 14, such that it is symmetrical, thereby allowing the blow bar 10 to be flipped and mounted anew to an impact crusher once a side of the leading face is worn out.

[0036] In alternative embodiments, the recessed portion 15 may comprise three, four, five or more recesses, wherein the first extension of each recess is bordered by portions of the trailing face which are not recessed. By providing a plurality of recesses which are bordered by non-recessed portions of the trailing face, a reduction of air pressure and the associated directing of the flow of wear particles may be allocated to two or more portions of the leading face. Typically, a reduced air pressure is allocated to portions of the blow bar which are prone to wear less, for example the middle region of the blow bar as disclosed in Fig. 2.

[0037] Next, Fig. 5 shows an exemplifying embodiment of a blow bar 10 in which the mounting portion 14 is composed of several mounting portions 14 which extend discontinuously along a portion of the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10. In this particular embodiment, the blow bar 10 comprises three mounting portions 14 which extend discontinuously in the direction of the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10 and centrally with respect to the transversal extension T of the same. The discontinuous extension of the three mounting portions 14 thus forms two discontinuities 19. In other embodiments, the mounting portion may comprise two, four, five, six, or more mounting portions, thereby forming one, three, four, five or more discontinuities.

[0038] In the exemplifying embodiment shown in Fig. 5, the recessed portion 15 comprises two recesses 16. Each recess 16 is associated with a respective discontinuity 19 of the discontinuous extension of the mounting portions 14. Each recess 16 has a first extension E which at least partly extends a length of the associated discontinuity 19. In embodiments comprising one, three, four, five or more discontinuities 19, the recessed portion 15 may comprise one, three, four, five or more recesses, each associated with a respective discontinuity of the discontinuous extension of the mounting portions, wherein each recess may have a first extension which at least partly extends a length of the associated discontinuity.

[0039] Each recess 16 in Fig. 5 is provided centrally relative to the length of its associated discontinuity 19, and centrally relative to the transversal extension T of the blow bar 10. Similarly, in embodiments comprising one, three, four, five, or more recesses 16, each associated with a respective discontinuity 19, each of the one, three, four, five, or more recesses 16 may be provided centrally relative to the length of its associated discontinuity 19, and centrally relative to the transversal extension T of the blow bar 10.

[0040] Each recess 16 in Fig. 5 extends along a majority of the transversal extension T of the blow bar 10. The extension of each recess 16 in the transversal direction thus extends more than half of the transversal extension T of the blow bar 10. In other embodiments, the extension of each recess 16 in the transversal direction T may be equal to the transversal extension of the blow bar 10. Similarly, in embodiments comprising one, three, four, or more recesses associated with a respective discontinuity, each of the one, three, four, five, or more recesses may have an extension which is more than half of the transversal extension T of the blow bar. Alternatively, each recess 16 may have an extension in the transversal direction which is equal to the transversal extension T of the blow bar 10.

[0041] Each recess 16 shown in the exemplifying embodiment described with reference to Fig. 5 has a square shape. In other embodiments, each recess 16 may be of any other suitable shape such as but not limited to, a rectangular shape, a triangular shape, a circular shape, an oval shape, or an hour-glass shape. Similarly, in embodiments comprising one, three, four, or more recesses associated with a respective discontinuity, each of the one, three, four, five, or more recesses may have any of a square shape, a rectangular shape, a triangular shape, a circular shape, an oval shape, or an hour-glass shape. In some embodiments, the three, four, five or more recesses associated with a respective discontinuity may be of the same shape. In other embodiments, the recesses may have different shapes.

[0042] Continuing now with reference to Fig. 6, which shows a blow bar 10 similar to the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, but further comprising a first surface texture 17 provided to the trailing face 12 of the blow bar 10. The first surface texture 17 comprises a linear pattern of depressions. The first surface texture 17 of this exemplifying embodiment extends longitudinally in the direction of the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10 on each longitudinal side of the mounting portions 14. Furthermore, the linear pattern of depressions of this embodiment is interrupted somewhat by the recesses 16, whereby the first surface texture 17 at portions of the blow bar 10 extends discontinuously along the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10. Providing a first surface texture 17 which extends in a linear but interrupted pattern along the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10 is also possible within the concept of the present disclosure.

[0043] In other embodiments, the first surface texture 17 may comprise a pattern of protrusions or depressions or combinations thereof. The pattern may be, as in this exemplifying embodiment, a directional pattern. In other embodiments, the pattern may be, but is not limited to, a bi-directional pattern, a multi-directional pattern, a wave pattern, a dimple pattern, or combinations thereof. The pattern may also be a random pattern. The purpose of this surface texture is to further promote a turbulent airflow along the trailing face 12 of the blow bar and thereby, as described earlier, an associated reduction in air pressure along corresponding portions of leading face of the blow bar. A further advantage with the first surface texture 17 when comprising recesses or depressions is that the total mass of the blow bar 10 may be reduced. Similarly, the first surface texture 17 may be provided to embodiments comprising one, three, four, or more recesses 16.

[0044] Fig. 7 shows an exemplifying embodiment of a blow bar 10 similar to that described with reference to Fig. 6, but further comprising a second surface texture 18 provided to the recessed portion 15, here to each of the two recesses 16 thereof. The extension of each recess 16 defines a recessed plane R. The second surface texture 18 here comprises a linear pattern of depressions which are recessed relative to the recessed plane R. In other embodiments, the second surface texture 18 may comprise a pattern of protrusions or depressions or combinations thereof, which protrude or are recessed relative to the recessed plane R. The pattern of the second surface texture 18 may be, as in the embodiment shown in Fig. 7, a directional pattern. In other embodiments, the pattern of the second surface texture 18 may be, but is not limited to, a bi-directional pattern, a multi-directional pattern, a wave pattern, a dimple pattern, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the pattern of the second surface texture 18 is different from the pattern of the first surface texture 17. Alternatively, the pattern of the second surface texture 18 may be the same as the pattern of the first surface texture 17, as it is in the exemplifying embodiment shown in Fig. 7.

[0045] In some embodiments wherein the recessed plane is at least partly provided with a second surface texture 18, the recessed plane R may further be provided with a third surface texture comprising a pattern of protrusions or depressions or combinations thereof relative to the recessed plane R, wherein the third surface texture has a different pattern than the pattern of the second surface texture 18. In some embodiments, the pattern of the third surface texture is different from the pattern of the first surface texture 17.

[0046] With reference now to Fig. 8, a portion of a blow bar 10 is shown which comprises a mounting portion composed of three mounting portions 14, extending discontinuously in the direction of the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10 on the trailing face 12 thereof. The trailing face 12 comprises a base plane 8 from which the mounting portions 14 protrude. The blow bar 10 further comprises a recessed portion comprising two recesses 16, which are recessed with respect to the base plane B. Each recess 16 defines a recessed plane R. In this embodiment, one recess 16, to the left in Fig. 8, extends in the transversal direction to the first longitudinal end 22 of the blow bar 10. The other recess 16, to the right in Fig. 8, has an extension in the transversal direction which is shorter than the transversal extension T of the blow bar 10 and is arranged centrally with respect to the transversal extension T. Accordingly, providing at least two recesses wherein the transversal extension of each recess is different is conceivable within the concept of the present disclosure, as is providing at least two recesses wherein the transversal extension of each recess is the same or essentially the same.

[0047] The blow bar 10 further comprises a first surface texture 17 which extends along the longitudinal extension L of the blow bar 10 on each longitudinal side of the mounting portion 14. The extension of the first surface texture 17 is partly interrupted by the recesses 16. The first surface texture 17 is here provided in a wave pattern. More particularly, the wave pattern is a sine wave pattern. However, providing the first surface texture 17 in another wave pattern is also conceivable within the concept of the present disclosure, such as but not limited to a trapezoid wave pattern, a square wave pattern, a triangle wave pattern, and a sawtooth wave pattern.

[0048] The person skilled in the art realizes that the present disclosure by no means is limited to the preferred embodiments described above. On the contrary, many modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the appended claims, as has been disclosed herein. Additionally, variations to the disclosed embodiments can be understood and effected by the skilled person in practicing the claimed disclosure, from a study of the drawings, the disclosure, and the appended claims.
