[0001] The invention relates to a device for placing workpieces in a vise and to a vise.
[0002] Vises are known in a wide variety of designs. They feature a fixed jaw and a front jaw that can be moved relative to it via a lead screw. The lead screw is equipped with a handle, allowing it to rotate. A rotational movement of the handle causes a longitudinal movement of the lead screw and the movable front jaw, clamping or releasing a workpiece between the jaws. For mounting on a base, vises typically have a base with holes for mounting screws. Such a vise is described, for example, in EP 1 884 317 A1.
[0003] The standard vises meet the requirements placed upon them. However, there are known applications where the operator must hold the workpiece with both hands, for example, if the workpiece is so heavy that one-handed holding is impossible. In such a case, it is not possible to operate the handle by hand. It is then necessary to involve a second person, which is time-consuming and reduces productivity.
