Portable drilling device

A drilling device prevents recurrence of an overload condition after occurrence of the overload condition, thereby improving operability and safety in the drilling device. A motor for rotating a drill is connected to an AC power source through a motor control unit, a current detector, and a power switch. A magnet is also connected to the AC power source through the power switch and a full-wave rectifier. The motor control unit rotationally drives the motor on the basis of a signal sent from a main control unit according to a state in which a motor start switch is on. The main control unit controls the motor control unit to gradually reduce a supply voltage to the motor when the motor becomes overloaded, to gradually increase the voltage to the normal power supply condition when the overload condition is vanished, and to stop power supply to the motor if the overload condition continues for a predetermined period.

One embodiment of an alignment apparatus for aligning an object, such as a tool or other implement, perpendicular with respect to a horizontal or a vertical target surface, comprises a three-axis accelerometer and at least two forward-facing distance sensors and a projection display comprising four addressable laser projectors. The accelerometer and distance sensor outputs are mapped to a predefined graphic symbol representing the orientation of the tool relative to the target surface, in particular when the tool is perpendicular to the target surface. The projection display projects the predefined symbol onto the target surface where it may be easily viewed by the tool operator allowing the operator to make any necessary corrections to the tool position.

When the distal link extends past a toggle angle, the protrusion constrains the tensile force generator, and the torque provided by the tensile force generator remains substantially small. When the protrusion does not constrain the tensile force generator, the torque tends to flex the distal link relative to the proximal link, thereby reducing human shoulder forces and torques required to raise the user's arm.

The six-degree-of-freedom micro table has nanoscale linear positioning precision and millisecond-level angle positioning precision. The long-stroke two-dimensional nano worktable and the six-degree-of-freedom micro table are combined to form the long-stroke two-dimensional nano worktable system. Under control of a closed-loop control system, the six-degree-of-freedom micro table carries out the comprehensive compensation of the linear positioning errors and the angle errors on the long-stroke two-dimensional nano worktable, so two-dimensional long-stroke nano positioning is achieved.

Vehicle tool tray

The vehicle tool tray has a T-shaped based mounted on casters. A vertical post is mounted to the base at the junction of the shaft and crossbar of the Tee. The vertical post is composed of two telescoping sections which are preferably square and tubular in cross section. The telescoping sections are firmly clamped at the desired height by a lock mechanism having a cam and a crank lever pivotally attached to a U-shaped bracket, the cam releasably engaging one of a plurality of slots defined in the upper section of the vertical post. The upper telescoping section of the vertical post is also T-shaped. A pair of short angle irons extend horizontally from the ends of the crossbar of the upper section of the vertical post. The tray is supported on the angle irons and crossbar of the upper section in cantilever fashion. The tray includes a plurality of dividers sectionalizing the top surface of the tray into compartments adapted for holding tools or small parts. The tray includes a drawer mounted on slides on the bottom surface of the tray. The vehicle tool tray is particularly adapted for working on a vehicle with the hood open, the base being wheeled under the vehicle and the tray extending over the engine compartment in cantilever fashion.

A tool operates with a guide system to identify the orientation of a tool on a work piece. In one implementation, the tool identifies its orientation with respect to a guide signal supplied by the guide system. In an alternate embodiment, the tool determines its absolute orientation, such as a (x, y) coordinate. The tool includes an action component adapted to alter the work piece, such as a cutting head in a router. A guide detector in the tool detects a position of a guide signal from the guide system. A location detector in the tool receives the position data and employs it to determine the tool's orientation. Based on the detected orientation, the tool decides whether any tool adjustments are necessary. Examples of tool adjustments include the following: adjusting the position of the action component, enabling or disabling the action component, and providing operating indicators to direct a tool operator's use of the tool.
