Date Jan. 16, 1997A crystalline semiconductor layer can be formed by forming a semiconductor film on an inexpensive conventional substrate. Next, perform a first annealing process in which nearly the entire surface of the semiconductor film is exposed to laser irradiation or other forms of irradiation, and then perform a second annealing process consisting of rapid thermal annealing. This enables the formation of a high quality crystalline semiconductor film with high throughput but without subjecting the substrate to undue thermal stress. When this invention is applied to thin film transistors, good transistors having high performance are easily fabricated. When this invention is applied to solar cells, energy conversion efficiency is increased.

Virtual image display apparatus

An intermediate image is formed inside a prism by a projection lens and the like. Image light, totally reflected, in the order of a third surface, a first surface and a second surface, on two or more surfaces thereof, reaches an eye of an observer after passing through the first surface. Thus, it is possible to decrease the thickness of the prism and to reduce the size and weight of the entire optical system. Further, it is possible to realize a bright high-performance display with a wide viewing angle. With respect to external light, it is possible to pass the external light through the first surface and the third surface, for example, for observation. Further, by setting diopter at this time to about 0, it is possible to reduce defocusing or warp of the external light when the external light is observed in a see-through manner.

Apparatus and method for high-frequency operation in a battery charger

A battery charger includes line-level input rectification, a high-frequency oscillator-controlled chopper circuit, multiple transformers operating in parallel, and controlled output rectification. Use of line-level input rectification reorders the elements of the battery charger compared to previous designs. A chopper frequency several orders of magnitude higher than that of the AC power mains is used. The use of multiple, parallel-wired transformers for voltage and current transformation eases constraints on the physical geometry of a manufactured battery charger product by permitting individual transformers, each smaller than a comparable single transformer, to be employed. Controlled output rectifiers permit power levels to be regulated dynamically.

Golf Swing Measurement and Analysis System

An integrated golf club and analysis system that measures and analyze the performance characteristics of both: 1) a free golf swing without impact with a golf ball and 2) a golf swing with ball impact analysis. Free swing analysis provides critical information needed to analyze swing style so that dynamics swing characteristics optimization can be evaluated throughout the entire swing without ball impact, while impact analysis provides critical information on ball impact location on the club face, however, they cannot be measured simultaneously since ball impact eliminates the ability to identify the swing metric peaks such as velocity if it were to occur after ball impact. To achieve both, an integrated electronics golf club head comprises multiple types of sensors for measuring club head motion, impact and spatial location information with a weight and balance of a regulation golf club head.

A design process first determines a desired aperture distribution, then converts the electric power conservation law, Snell's law on the rear face side of a dielectric lens, and the formula representing light-path-length constraint, into simultaneous equations, and computes the shapes of the surface and rear face of the dielectric lens depending on the azimuthal angle θ of a primary ray from the focal point of the dielectric lens to the rear face of the dielectric lens, and then reduces the light path length in the formula showing light-path-length constraint by an integral multiple of the wavelength when the coordinates on the surface of the dielectric lens reach a predetermined restriction thickness position. A dielectric lens is designed by sequentially changing the lazimuthal angle θ from its initial value, and also repeating the second and third steps. Thus, downsizing and quantification is realized by zoning while keeping antenna properties at the time of constituting a dielectric lens antenna in a good condition.
