[0001] The present invention relates to packaging for frozen foods, in particular frozen pizza and similarly shaped products, such as frozen pinsa, tarte flambée or lahmacun.
[0002] It is common knowledge that frozen pizzas and similar products are packaged in flat cardboard boxes. These boxes are machine-foldable and contain the frozen product, which is usually also shrink-wrapped. They are thus similar to the outer packaging of other frozen products. They are lightweight, space-saving, stackable, and cost-effective to produce, store, and transport.
[0003] However, this type of packaging has certain disadvantages. In particular, it is unsuitable for transporting prepared pizza, for example, from the preparation location to another place for consumption. While such packaging has an opening to allow removal of the frozen, foil-wrapped product, this opening is not well-suited for placing the hot, prepared pizza back into the packaging. They are folded by hand, are large and heavy, and therefore generally unsuitable as packaging material in the industrial production of frozen products.
