Description

Title of the invention: Use in an electric perfume diffuser of an aqueous perfume composition containing a surfactant and a preservative.

[0001] The present invention generally relates to the use of a perfumed composition based on surfactant and preservative, in an electric perfume diffuser operating with a piezoelectric ceramic.

[0002] Generally, this type of electric fragrance diffuser is known to those skilled in the art and is already commercially available. It is typically used with small vials of essential oils that the consumer purchases separately. The consumer fills the diffuser with water, then adds a few drops of essential oils. In operation, a mist is formed and the air is scented. The intensity of the electric diffuser is adjusted by the user with the risk of incorporating too much essential oil, which can expose him to danger or, conversely, that he may be disappointed if the quantity introduced is too small.

[0003] To resolve this difficulty, the Applicant has developed a perfumed composition in aqueous solution based on essential oil, and / or natural or synthetic perfume raw materials, which may in particular have aromacological virtues and is directly ready for use. Such a composition is intended to be used as is in an electric perfume diffuser operating with a piezoelectric ceramic.

[0004] With such a composition, it is necessary to use a surfactant, in order to make the essential oil and the aqueous phase miscible and thus form a thermodynamically stable emulsion.

[0005] The surfactant is an amphiphilic species, i.e., having a hydrophilic part and a lipophilic part. In the case of an anionic surfactant, the hydrophilic part is negatively charged, while in the case of a cationic surfactant, the hydrophilic part is positively charged. If the surfactant is amphoteric in nature, the hydrophilic part is positively and negatively charged, so that the overall charge of the molecule is zero. In the case of the present invention, the surfactant used in the perfumed composition is non-ionic, i.e., the surfactant molecule has no net charge. Non-ionic surfactants have the advantages of being inexpensive, renewable, biodegradable, low in toxicity, and low in foaming power. However, like other types of surfactants, they have the disadvantage of being difficult to vaporize using the piezoelectric system.

[0006] Therefore, during operation, residues on the piezoelectric ceramic are unavoidable and can cause fouling or premature deterioration of the ceramic. In addition, greasy fallout on the base or the surface on which the electric diffuser rests is also expected, due to the foaming properties of the surfactants, when the perfume is sprayed.

[0007] To overcome the aforementioned drawbacks, the applicant has developed a perfume composition intended for use in an electric diffuser operating with a piezoelectric ceramic. The choice of surfactant and its percentage must be adapted to limit the drawbacks described above while guaranteeing the desired performance: Olfactory quality, olfactory intensity and aromacological promise.

[0008] More particularly, the present invention relates to the use of a perfumed aqueous composition, in an electric perfume diffuser operating with a piezoelectric ceramic, characterized in that said perfumed aqueous composition comprises 0.1% to 0.3% by weight relative to the total weight of said perfume composition of an essential oil and / or natural or synthetic perfume raw materials, 0.1 to 1% by weight relative to the total weight of said perfume composition of a non-ionic surfactant, and 0.01 to 0.1% by weight relative to the total weight of said perfume composition of a preservative.

[0009] By using such a perfumed composition, the consumer does not need to adjust the intensity of the perfume that the electric diffuser must diffuse.

[0010] Advantageously, it will be possible to use, within the framework of the present invention, a polysorbate as surfactant, and preferably polyoxyethylene(20) sorbitan monolaurate.

[0011] Advantageously, it will be possible to use, within the framework of the present invention, as a preservative agent, a biocide, and preferably 1,2-benzisothiazlin-3-one in 20% aqueous solution, present at a rate of 0.1% by weight relative to the total weight of said perfume composition.

[0012] Other advantages and features of the present invention will result from the following examples given by way of non-limiting example.

[0013] EXAMPLES

[0014] Products

[0015] scented formulations marketed by PRODUITS BERGER for the “electric diffuser” range under the trade names: “Pomme vanille”, “Paris Chic”, and “Caresse de coton”;

[0016] Surfactant: polyoxyethylene(20) sorbitan monolaurate, marketed under the trade name Tween 20;

[0017] Preservative: 1,2-benzisothiazlin-3-one in 20% aqueous solution, present at a rate of 0.1% by weight.

[0018] Tests

[0019] The olfactory quality of the different formulations used in an electric diffuser with piezoelectric ceramic is actively evaluated in a real-life situation in a room, as well as the residual percentage of residues on the ceramic after 5 to 7 hours of operation of the diffuser.

[0020] The test results are shown below in Table 1:

[0021] [Tables 1] Formulation % of perfume % of tween 20 solution tested Olfactory quality Apple vanilla a UC 0.1 0.6 X Paris Chic 0.1 0.3 X Cotton caress 0.1 0.2 X

[0022] The percentage of residue of the formula on the ceramic is less than 1% relative to the total weight of the formula before use.
