Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: composition for the care and / or cleansing of the skin Technical field
[0001] The present invention relates to a composition for the care and / or cleansing of the skin. More particularly, the present invention relates to a less irritating composition for the care and / or cleansing of the body, for example a less irritating body scrub. context of art
[0002] The skin is the protective barrier of the human body, and therefore people try to protect the skin, for example, facial skin and body skin, by various means. One of these means is to remove excessive layers of dead cells from the surface of the skin in order to achieve shiny and youthful-looking skin. Scrubs or exfoliants are skin cleansers that often contain fine, uniform particles. These products are mainly used to remove dirt from the deeper layers of the skin, and by rubbing them on the skin, they can peel off old, flaky cuticles and remove dead skin.
[0003] The exfoliating or scrubbing products generally used are in the form of emulsions. Unfortunately, these exfoliating products have the disadvantages of being irritating and requiring, after use, the application of a nourishing, protective and / or moisturizing cream. These products are particularly poorly tolerated by sensitive skin, and often cannot be used every day due to their irritating power.
[0004] The irritant power of these products is generally due to the presence of surfactants intended to stabilize the dispersion of one phase in the other (oil-in-water or water-in-oil). In addition, these emulsions cause drying of the skin and are poorly tolerated by very dry skin.
[0005] Furthermore, for some scrubbing or exfoliating products, the irritant power comes from thickeners and / or more irritating surfactants, for example cationic gums and Polyquaterniums as cationic surfactants. Irritating components, in particular cationic surfactants, are beneficial for good detergency. However, products comprising such irritating components can be used for hair care and / or cleansing, but they are not applicable for skin care, in particular for sensitive skin, for example for body and face care.
[0006] Therefore, there are still needs for compositions for the care and / or skin cleansing, which combine good detergent action and reduced irritation. Summary of the invention
[0007] According to the first aspect, the present invention relates to a composition for the care and / or cleansing of the skin, for example for facial skin and body skin, in particular for body skin, comprising: (a) a non-ionic polysaccharide polymer, (b) a surfactant system, comprising an anionic surfactant and an amphoteric surfactant, and (c) salt granules.
[0008] More specifically, the non-ionic polysaccharide polymer may be selected from non-ionic gums, for example galactomannans, including guar gum, locust bean gum, konjac gum, sclerotium gum and tara gum, and derivatives thereof. The polysaccharides may also be selected from celluloses and derivatives thereof.
[0009] As for the non-ionic polysaccharide polymer, only a very small amount, for example about 0.1 wt% to about 0.2 wt% based on the total weight of the composition, can provide the same texture as a cationic polysaccharide polymer and less irritation and better performance, for example difficulty in gripping, spreading during application and feel at the end, than a cationic polysaccharide polymer for the composition according to the present invention.
[0010] Furthermore, conventional polymers, including AMPS, carbopol and polymers of the acrylate family, are sensitive to polyelectrolytes and do not allow more than 20% by weight of salt granules to be obtained in the composition. In contrast, the composition according to the present invention may comprise an amount of up to about 60% by weight or even up to about 80% by weight of salt granules without salt aggregation, by means of the specific nonionic polysaccharide polymer of the present invention. For inorganic thickeners, such as hectorite, and powder thickeners, such as starches, it is difficult to obtain a translucent or transparent appearance. Thus, none of said conventional polymers, inorganic thickeners and powder thickeners are applicable for the composition according to the present invention.
[0011] According to the present invention, anionic surfactants include, but are not limited to, alkyl sulfates, alkyl ether sulfates, alkyl sulfonates, alkyl sulfosuccinates, alkyl sulfoacetates, acyl isethionates, alkoxylated monobasic acids, acylated amino acids such as acyl taurates, acyl glycinates, acyl glutamates, acyl sarcosinates, salts thereof, and a mixture thereof.
[0012] In addition, amphoteric surfactants include betaines, alkyl sultaines, am- alkyl phoacetates and alkyl amphodiacetates, alkyl amphoproprionates, and mixtures thereof.
[0013] Preferably, the composition according to the present invention does not comprise cationic surfactants to avoid greater irritation when the composition is used for facial skin and body skin. By combining an anionic surfactant and an amphoteric surfactant, the composition according to the present invention can achieve desirable texture and detergency and reduce discomfort and irritation.
[0014] Optionally, the composition according to the present invention comprises a nonionic surfactant. Due to the low detergency, the amount of nonionic surfactant included is relatively small. More specifically, the nonionic surfactant is present in an amount ranging from about 0% by weight to about 10% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.
[0015] According to the present invention, the salt granules preferably comprise about 80% by weight or more of sodium chloride granules, based on the total weight of the salt granules. Preferably, the salt granules do not include substantially any sea salts, such as Dead Sea salts, due to their relatively larger particle size. If present, the sea salts are comprised in an amount of less than about 20% by weight based on the total weight of the salt granules.
[0016] In particular, the composition according to the present invention is in the form of a gel, rather than in the form of an emulsion. As is known to those skilled in the art, a product in the form of an emulsion is often difficult to set and has poor spreadability due to its finer texture. In addition, the composition according to the present invention has a favorable and popular appearance, for example, it is translucent or even transparent.
[0017] By virtue of said essential components, the composition according to the present invention can obtain a desirable texture, for example a gel-like form, less irritation and better performance, for example in terms of difficulty of gripping, spreadability during application and feel at the end.
[0018] According to the second aspect, the present invention relates to a process for caring for and / or cleansing the skin, in particular the skin of the body, by applying to the skin, including dry skin and wet skin, by massaging the skin, and then by rinsing the composition, preferably with water.
[0019] According to the third aspect, the present invention relates to the use of the composition according to the present invention as a body scrub or exfoliant having less irritating power and desirable detergency.
[0020] Other subjects and characteristics, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become even more apparent from the detailed description and examples. which follow. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0021] In the following and unless otherwise indicated, the limits of a range of values are included in this range, in particular in the expressions "between" and "ranging from ... to ...".
[0022] The articles "a" and "an", as used herein, mean one or more when applied to any feature in embodiments of the present invention described in the specification and claims. The use of "a" and "an" does not limit the meaning to a single feature, unless such a limitation is specifically indicated. In addition, the expression "at least one" as used herein is equivalent to the expression "one or more".
[0023] Throughout the present application, the expression "comprising" should be interpreted as encompassing all specifically mentioned features as well as optional, additional and unspecified ones. In the present document, the use of the term "comprising" also discloses the embodiment in which no material features or even no features other than the specifically mentioned features are present (such as "consisting essentially of" and "consisting of"). In the case of "consisting essentially of", all additional compositions, materials and / or components that materially affect the fundamental and novel characteristics are excluded from such an embodiment, but all compositions, materials and / or components that do not materially affect the fundamental and novel characteristics may be included in the embodiment.
[0024] The term "about" denoting a certain value is intended to denote a range within ± 5% of the value. For example, the expression "about 100" denotes a range of 100 + 5, i.e., the range of 95 to 105. In general, when the term "about" is used, it can be expected that similar results or effects according to the disclosure can be obtained within a range of ± 5% of the stated value. Nonionic polysaccharide polymers
[0025] The composition according to the present invention comprises at least one non-ionic polysaccharide polymer. Since the present invention aims to provide a less irritating composition for the care and / or cleansing of the skin, the composition according to the present invention preferably does not comprise any ionic polysaccharide polymer, for example hydroxypropyltrimonium hydroxypropyl guar.
[0026] Furthermore, starches, due to their fine powder form, often lead to a solution or a pasty suspension of the product. Thus, starches are also not applicable for the translucent or transparent composition according to the present invention. Surprisingly, the inventor discovers that this non-ionic polysaccharide polymer has a high salt tolerance, and therefore only a very small amount of this non-ionic polysaccharide polymer can lead to the desired gelled and translucent or transparent composition as a body scrub.
[0027] In particular, the polysaccharides may be selected from non-ionic gums, for example galactomannans, including guar gum, locust bean gum, konjac gum, sclerotium gum and tara gum, and derivatives thereof. The polysaccharides may also be selected from celluloses and derivatives thereof. Furthermore, the inventor discovers that gums, such as carrageenan and xanthan gum, cannot provide the desirable thickening effectiveness for the composition. It is deduced that the reason may be that at least a portion of the structures of these gums is still in the form of salts.
[0028] Generally speaking, the compounds of this type which can be used in the present invention are chosen from those described in particular in Kirk-Othmer's Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, third edition, 1982, volume 3, pages 896 to 900, and volume 15, pages 439 to 458, in Polymers in Nature by EA McGregor and CT Greenwood, published by John Wiley & Sons, chapter 6, pages 240 to 328, 1980, in the book by Robert L. Davidson entitled Handbook of Water-Soluble Gums and Resins published by Mc Graw Hill Book Company (1980) and in Industrial Gums - Polysaccharides and their Derivatives, edited by Roy L. Whistler, second edition, published by Academie Press Inc.
[0029] Galactomannan
[0030] Galactomannans are non-ionic polysaccharides extracted from the endosperm of legume seeds, of which they constitute the storage carbohydrate. Galactomannans are macromolecules consisting of a main chain of D-mannopyranose units linked in [3(1,4), bearing side branches consisting of a single D-galactopyranose unit linked in α(1,6) to the main chain. The various galactomannans differ, on the one hand, in the proportion of αD-galactopyranose units present in the polymer, and on the other hand, in significant differences in terms of the distribution of galactose units along the mannose chain. The mannose / galactose (M / G) ratio is approximately 2 for guar gum, 3 for tara gum and 4 for locust bean gum. Galactomannans may include the following gums:
[0031] Guar
[0032] Guar gum is characterized by a mannose / galactose ratio of the order of 2 / 1. The galactose group is regularly distributed along the mannose chain. According to the invention, chemically modified or unmodified non-ionic guar gums can be used.
[0033] Unmodified non-ionic guar gums are, for example, the products sold under the names Vidogum GH, Vidogum G and Vidocrem by the company Unipektin and under the name Jaguar by the company Rhodia, under the name Meypro® Guar by the company Danisco, under the name Viscogum™ by the company Cargill, and under the name Supercol® guar gum by the company Aqualon.
[0034] The hydrolyzed non-ionic guar gums that can be used according to the invention are represented, for example, by the products sold under the name Meyprodor® by the company Danisco.
[0035] The modified non-ionic guar gums which can be used according to the invention are preferably modified by C1-C6 hydroxyalkyl groups, among which mention may be made, for example, of hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl and hydroxybutyl groups.
[0036] Such non-ionic guar gums optionally modified with hydroxyalkyl groups are marketed, for example, under the trade names Jaguar HP 60, Jaguar HP 105 and Jaguar HP 120 (hydroxypropyl guar) by the company Rhodia or under the name N-Hance®HP (hydroxypropyl guar) by the company Aqualon.
[0037] Carob
[0038] Locust bean gum is extracted from the seeds of the carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua). The locust bean gum that can be used in the present invention is sold, for example, under the name Viscogum™ by Cargill, under the name Vidogum L by Unipektin and under the name Grinsted®LBG by Danisco.
[0039] Sclerotium
[0040] In the context of the present invention, "sclerotium gum" and "scleroglucan" are equivalent terms, as is Sclerotium rolfsii gum. Indeed, the Sclerotium rolfsii fungus makes it possible to produce scleroglucan.
[0041] Tara gum
[0042] The tara gum which can be used in the context of the present invention is sold, for example, under the name Vidogum SP by the company Unipektin.
[0043] Glucomannans (konjac gum)
[0044] Glucomannan is a high molecular weight polysaccharide (500,000 < Mglu-comannan < 2,000,000) composed of D-mannose and D-glucose units with a branch about every 50 or 60 units. It is found in wood, but is also the main constituent of konjac gum. Konjac (Kmorphophallus konjac) is a plant of the Araceae family.
[0045] The products usable according to the invention are sold, for example, under the names Propol® and Rheolex® by the company Shimizu.
[0046] Cellulose and derivatives
[0047] The polysaccharide according to the invention may also be a cellulose or a derivative thereof, in particular cellulose ethers or esters (for example methylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, and hydroxymethylpropylcellulose).
[0048] The invention may also contain a cellulose-based associative polymer. According to the invention, the term "cellulose-based compound" means any polysaccharide compound carrying in its structure linear sequences of anhydroglucopyranose (AGU) residues linked together by [3(1,4)] glycosidic bonds. The repeating unit is the cellobiose dimer. The AGUs are in chair conformation and carry 3 hydroxyl functions: 2 secondary alcohols (in positions 2 and 3) and a primary alcohol (in position 6). The polymers thus formed combine with each other by intermolecular bonds of the hydrogen bond type, thus giving the cellulose a fibrillar structure (approximately 1500 molecules per fiber). The degree of polymerization differs enormously depending on the origin of the cellulose; its value can range from a few hundred to several tens of thousands.
[0049] Preferably, the non-ionic polysaccharide polymer is selected from the group consisting of guar gum, locust bean gum, konjac gum, sclerotium gum and tara gum, and derivatives thereof. More preferably, the non-ionic polysaccharide polymer is selected from guar gum, locust bean gum, sclerotium gum and derivatives thereof, wherein the guar gum is selected from C 1 -C 6 hydroxyalkyl guars, for example hydroxymethyl guar, hydroxyethyl guar, hydroxypropyl guar and hydroxybutyl guar, and especially hydroxypropyl guar.
[0050] Advantageously, the nonionic polysaccharide polymer is present in an amount ranging from about 0.001% by weight to about 5% by weight, preferably from about 0.01% by weight to about 2% by weight, or from about 0.05% by weight to about 0.5% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition. Surfactant system
[0051] The composition according to the present invention comprises a surfactant system, which comprises at least one anionic surfactant and at least one amphoteric surfactant, and optionally at least one non-ionic surfactant. By comprising both the specific anionic surfactant and the specific amphoteric surfactant, the composition according to the present invention can achieve desirable texture and detergency and decrease discomfort and irritation. Furthermore, when the composition according to the present invention is used for skin care, it does not comprise cationic surfactants to achieve as low an irritant power as desirable. [0162] [Tables2] Components IE. 1 EC. 1 EC. 2 EC. 3 HYDROXYPROPYL GUAR HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMO NIUM CHLORIDE 0 0.2 0.1 0.3 HYDROXYPROPYL GUAR 0.2 0 0 0 SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE 8 8 20 20 COCO-BETAINE 19 19 0 0 SODIUM CHLORIDE 55 55 55 55 GLYCERIN 10.7 10.7 17.8 16.6 CITRIC ACID 0.1 0.1 0.1 0.1 GLYCERYL STEARATE 1 1 1 1 PEG-100 STEARATE 1 1 1 2 COCAMIDE MIPA 5 5 5 5
[0163] Preparation procedure:
[0164] The compositions were prepared as follows:
[0165] 1). disperse hydroxypropyl guar or hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride hydroxypropyl guar in glycerin while heating until a homogeneous gel is obtained;
[0166] 2). add citric acid to correct the pH value;

[0170] The bulk of the prepared compositions was poured into small jars (15 mL). Then, the texture was touched and felt by hand.
[0171] Rating from 1 to 5: -1: unsatisfactory
[0172] -2: slightly unsatisfactory
[0173] -3: acceptable texture
[0174] -4: satisfactory texture
[0175] -5: very satisfactory texture.
[0176] The results have been summarized in Table 3.
[0177] [Tables3] IE. 1 CE. 1 CE. 2 CE. 3 Texture Comments (Rating 0 to 5) Ideal texture with perfect viscosity and easy to take (5) Ideal texture with perfect viscosity and easy to take (5) Too fluid (2) Too thick, too textured, too sticky, and difficult to take (1)
[0178] From Tables 2 and 3 above, it can be seen that the comparative compositions, i.e., CE. 2 and 3, which do not include the amphoteric surfactants according to the present invention, obtained only 2 points and 1 point respectively. This means that the compositions lacking amphoteric surfactants could not obtain the desirable textures and obtained poor performances, for example, undesirable viscosity, difficult gripping and higher irritancy. Corridor test
[0179] Six panels participated in the corridor test. They all tested the two formulas separately and blindly. Each of them commented on and rated the product in three aspects: difficulty of gripping, ease of spreading during application and sensation at the end.
[0180] Rating attributes:
[0181] -Difficulty gripping:
[0182] From 1 to 5: difficult to take -> easy to take.
[0183] -Application: ease of spreading
[0184] From 1 to 5: difficult to spread -> easy to spread.
[0185] -Feeling at the end: slippery
[0186] From 1 to 5: squeaky -> slippery
[0187] [Tables4] CE. 1 IE. 1 Difficulty of gripping Panel 1 2 4 Panel 2 2 4.5 Panel 3 3 4 Panel 4 2 4 Panel 5 2 4 Panel 6 2 4 Average 2.17 4.08 Ease of spreading during application Panel 1 3 5 Panel 2 3 4 Panel 3 1 1 Panel 4 3 3 Panel 5 3 3 Panel 6 3 4 Average 2.67 3.33 Feeling at the end Panel 1 2 4.5 Panel 2 3 3.5 Panel 3 4 4 Panel 4 4 3 Panel 5 4 4 Panel 6 4 4 Average 3.5 3.83
[0188] From Table 4 above, it can be seen that, as estimated by the panels, the inventive composition obtained a higher score than the comparative composition for each of difficulty of gripping, spreading during application and feel at the end. It was demonstrated that the composition comprising both the non-ionic polysaccharide polymer and the combination of the anionic surfactant and the amphoteric surfactant according to the present invention obtained a better feel for the user than the composition comprising a cationic polysaccharide polymer and the same surfactants. Stability test
[0189] Test Procedure: Appearance, odor, and color were tested by observation and smell. Viscosity was measured by viscometer. Samples were filled into a cup, and the spindle was inserted into the mass and rotated at a fixed speed. Performances were noted at 0 seconds, 30 seconds, and 10 minutes respectively.
