Description

Title of the invention: Adjustable flat support assembly for motor vehicles and mounting method

[0001] The technical context of the present invention is that of the assembly of motor vehicle body components. More particularly, the invention relates to an adjustable flat support assembly for the assembly of motor vehicle body components.

[0002] In a non-limiting and particularly preferred manner, the context of the invention is that of the assembly of the front faces of motor vehicles on stretcher ends.

[0003] In the prior art, the assembly of body panels onto chassis components by metal fitting is known. During this assembly, the body panel is placed flat against a bearing surface of the chassis component. Due to manufacturing and assembly tolerances of the chassis components, this flat positioning does not allow for very precise positioning of the body panel relative to the chassis component. This lack of precision leads to misalignment, which is unacceptable in the automotive field, especially for body panels where such misalignment is particularly noticeable on the bodywork.

[0004] Moreover, such imprecision in the positioning of the chassis elements supporting the bodywork elements leads to a misalignment of the connecting elements used to link said bodywork elements to said chassis elements, so that it is sometimes not possible to assemble the bodywork elements.

[0005] To solve this problem, it is known to incorporate, at the chassis level, specific parts to define precisely determined support positions. Subsequently, the body panels are placed against the support face without the body panel itself defining their position. Instead, the body panels are positioned relative to each other and to the chassis panels by means of these specific parts. This redundant and statically indeterminate configuration allows for the assembly of the body panels, but at the cost of excessive and expensive development, both due to the need for additional parts and the high manufacturing and assembly precision they require.

[0006] The present invention aims to provide a new adjustable assembly set in order to address at least largely the previous problems and to lead to other advantages.

[0007] Another object of the invention is to simplify the assembly methods of bodywork elements on the motor vehicle.

[0008] Another objective of the invention is to reduce the manufacturing costs of a motor vehicle.

[0009] According to a first aspect of the invention, at least one of the aforementioned objectives is achieved with an adjustable assembly for a motor vehicle, the adjustable assembly comprising (i) a support intended to be fixed securely to a chassis element of the motor vehicle, (ii) an interface plate fixed to the support by means of a first adjustment member allowing a first translation of the interface plate relative to the support and along a first adjustment axis, and (iii) a fixing plate fixed to the interface plate by means of a second adjustment member allowing a second translation of the fixing plate relative to the interface plate and along a second adjustment axis intersecting with the first adjustment axis, the fixing plate comprising fixing members for a bodywork element on said fixing plate.

[0010] In the context of the invention, the support thus forms a base for the adjustable assembly according to the first aspect of the invention. The interface plate and the mounting plate are rigidly connected to the support by means of a joint allowing at least one translation. In particular, the interface plate is connected to the support by means of a joint allowing at least translation along the first adjustment axis. The mounting plate, for its part, is connected to the interface plate by means of a joint allowing at least translation along the second adjustment axis.

[0011] Thus, in the context of the invention, the fixing plate and the interface plate are arranged in series with respect to each other, relative to the support.

[0012] The adjustable assembly thus takes two distinct configurations:

[0013] - a first configuration, called the adjustment configuration, in which the interface plate The adjustable assembly is movable in translation relative to the support and along the first adjustment axis, and the mounting plate is movable in translation relative to the interface plate and along the second adjustment axis. This first configuration thus allows adjustment of the relative position of the mounting plate with respect to the support and the chassis element with which the adjustable assembly is intended to work. When the adjustable assembly works with the chassis element, the adjustable assembly in its first configuration allows translation of the support relative to the chassis element and along the third adjustment axis. The relative position of the adjustable assembly conforms the first aspect of the invention is thus adjusted along the three adjustment axes, relative to the chassis element, until an adjustment position is obtained;

[0014] - a second configuration, called assembly, in which the interface plate is fixed rigidly to the support and the fixing plate is fixed rigidly to the interface plate, in the adjustment position. In this second configuration, the fixing plate and the interface plate are fixed rigidly to each other and to the support, in order to fully constrain the adjustable assembly according to the first aspect of the invention and to clamp said fixing plate and interface plate with respect to the support.

[0015] In the context of the present invention, the body panel is intended to be rigidly fixed to the support by means of the adjustable assembly, and more particularly by means of a fastener of said body panel on the mounting plate. Thus, once the adjustment position is obtained, by adjusting the relative position of the mounting plate with respect to the support and the chassis panel via the interface plate, it is possible to position the mounting plate, and more particularly the fastener of the body panel, very precisely in space. Consequently, it is thus possible to position the body panel very skillfully, thereby facilitating the manufacturing processes of a motor vehicle.

[0026] - the second adjusting member includes at least a second flap which extends set back from the mounting plate, relative to the third adjustment axis, so as to maintain contact between the interface plate and the mounting plate. Each at least one second flap is formed from the material of the mounting plate, each at least one second flap forming a fold in the direction of the third adjustment axis so that a free end of each at least one second flap is located at a distance from and opposite the fixing plate. [0045] Various embodiments of the invention are envisaged, incorporating according to all of their possible combinations, the different optional features outlined here.

[0046] Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description on the one hand, and from several illustrative and non-limiting examples of embodiments given by reference to the accompanying schematic drawings on the other hand, in which:

[0047] [Fig-1] illustrates an isometric view of an example embodiment of the assembly adjustable assembly conforming to the first aspect of the invention;

[0048] [Fig.2] illustrates a front view of the adjustable assembly visible in [Fig.1].

[0049] Of course, the features, variants, and different embodiments of the invention can be combined in various ways, provided they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, variants of the invention may be conceived comprising only a selection of features, described hereafter in isolation from the other described features, if this selection of features is sufficient to confer a technical advantage or to differentiate the invention from the prior art.

[0050] In particular, all the variants and all the embodiments described are combinable with each other if nothing prevents this combination from a technical point of view.

[0051] In the figures, the elements common to several figures retain the same reference.

[0052] With reference to FIGURES 1 and 2, the invention relates to an adjustable assembly 1 for a motor vehicle, the adjustable assembly 1 comprising:

[0053] - a support 11 intended to be fixed securely to a chassis element of the vehicle automobile;

[0054] - an interface plate 12 attached to the support 11 by means of a first adjustment element 112 allowing a first translation Tl of the interface plate 12 relative to the support 11 and along a first adjustment axis X;

[0055] - a fixing plate 13 integral with the interface plate 12 by means of of a second adjustment member 122 allowing a second translation T2 of the fixing plate 13 relative to the interface plate 12 and along a second adjustment axis Y intersecting with the first adjustment axis X, the fixing plate 13 comprising fixing members 132 of a bodywork element on said fixing plate 13.

[0056] In FIGURES 1 and 2, the first adjustment axis X and the second adjustment axis Y together form a plane perpendicular to the third adjustment axis Z. Moreover, in the embodiment illustrated in the FIGURES, the first adjustment axis X is perpendicular to the second adjustment axis Y.

[0057] The support 11 forms a base for the adjustable assembly 1. The interface plate 12 is linked to the support 11 by means of a connection allowing at least translation along the first adjustment axis X, relative to said support 11; and the fixing plate 13 is linked to the interface plate 12 by means of a connection allowing at least translation along the second adjustment axis Y, relative to said interface plate 12. Thus, ingeniously, the fixing plate 13 is movable in translation relative to the support 11 along the first adjustment axis X and the second adjustment axis Y.

[0058] The support 11 advantageously comprises a bearing face 110A and a sleeve 110B which extends outward from the bearing face 110A, relative to the third adjustment axis Z. The sleeve 110B extends outward from the bearing face 110A in a direction opposite to the interface plate 12 relative to the bearing face 110A.

[0059] The sleeve 110B is intended to be fixed securely to the chassis element of the motor vehicle.

[0060] The interface plate 12 is integral with the bearing face 110A of the support 11.

[0061] The support face 110A is configured to collaborate with the interface plate 12;

[0062] In the embodiment shown in FIGURES 1 and 2, the sleeve 110B takes the form of a cylindrical sleeve 110B whose generatrix extends along the third adjustment axis Z, perpendicular to the support face 110A. The third adjustment axis Z is perpendicular to the support face 110A.

[0063] Furthermore, the guide profile defining the cylindrical sleeve 110B is of the type that allows the sleeve 110B to be locked in rotation relative to the third Z-axis adjustment and relative to the chassis element with which the support 11 is intended to cooperate. In particular, in the embodiment shown in FIGURES 1 and 2, the guide profile is square.

[0064] Consequently, the cylindrical sleeve 110B has a central recess delimited, relative to the third Z-axis adjustment, by the bearing face 110A. In other words, the cylindrical sleeve 110B thus takes the form of a profile. This configuration facilitates the insertion of the cylindrical sleeve 110B into a chassis element, preferably of the type of a stretcher end, which also takes the form of a profile.

[0065] By this configuration, it is possible to adjust a relative position of the support 11, and more particularly of its cylindrical sleeve 110B, relative to the chassis element with which it must collaborate, relative to the third adjustment axis Z.

[0066] In the embodiment illustrated in FIGURES 1 and 2, the interface plate 12 is polygonal in shape, and preferably rectangular or square.

[0067] The interface plate 12 is supported against the bearing face 110A of the support 11, relative to the third adjustment axis Z. For this purpose, a lateral edge 111 of the bearing face 110A is located opposite the interface plate 12.

[0068] The interface plate 12 is held against the bearing face 110A of the support 11 by means of the first adjusting member 112. During an adjustment step of the adjustable assembly 1 according to the first aspect of the invention, the interface plate 12 is movable in translation relative to the support 11 and its bearing face 110A, relative to the first adjusting axis X. In other words, the first adjusting member 112 allows a translational movement - called the first translation T1 - of the interface plate 12 relative to the bearing face 110A of the support 11.

[0069] More specifically, the first adjustment member 112 comprises at least one first flap extending back from the interface plate 12, relative to the third adjustment axis Z, so as to maintain the bearing face 110A of the support 11 in contact between each first flap and the interface plate 12. Each first flap is formed from the same material as the interface plate 12: each first flap forms a folded edge of the interface plate 12 in the direction of the third adjustment axis Z and towards the bearing face 110A of the support 11. Thus, a free end 1121 of each first flap is located at a distance and opposite the interface plate 12, relative to the third Z adjustment axis.

[0070] In the embodiment illustrated in FIGURES 1 and 2, the first adjustment member 112 has two first flaps, each first flap collaborating with an opposite lateral edge 111 of the bearing face 110A of the support 11, the lateral edges 111 of the bearing face 110A being located on either side of the sleeve 110B, relative to the second adjustment axis Y.

[0071] In order to limit the amplitude of displacement of the interface plate 12 relative to the support face 110A of the support 11 and relative to the first adjustment axis X, the support face 110A of the support 11 has first stop stops 113 located at a distance and on either side of each first flap of the interface plate 12. Thus, the first translation Tl of the interface plate 12 relative to the first adjustment axis X is constrained and limited by the first stop stops 113.

[0072] The first stop stops 113 are made of material with the interface plate 12.

[0073] The first stop stops 113 extend outward from the interface plate 12, relative to the third Z adjustment axis.

[0074] The mounting plate 13 is supported against the interface plate 12, relative to the third adjustment axis Z. For this purpose, a transverse edge 121 of the interface plate 12 is located opposite the mounting plate 13.

[0075] The fixing plate 13 is held against the interface plate 12 by means of the second adjusting member 122. During the adjustment step of the adjustable assembly 1 according to the first aspect of the invention, the fixing plate 13 is movable in translation relative to the interface plate 12, relative to the second adjustment axis Y. In other words, the second adjusting member 122 allows a translational movement - called second translation T2 - of the fixing plate 13 relative to the interface plate 12.

[0076] In particular, the second adjusting member 122 has at least one second flap which extends back from the mounting plate 13, relative to the third Z adjustment axis, so as to keep the interface plate 12 engaged between each second flap and the mounting plate 13. Each second flap is formed from the material of the mounting plate 13: each second flap forms a folded edge of the mounting plate 13 in the direction of the third Z adjustment axis and towards the interface plate 12. Thus, a free end 1121 of each second flap is located at a distance from and opposite the mounting plate 13.

[0077] In the embodiment illustrated in FIGURES 1 and 2, the second adjusting member 122 comprises two second flaps, each second flap cooperating with a different transverse edge 121 of the interface plate 12, the edges transverse 121 of the interface plate 12 being located on either side of the sleeve 110B, relative to the first adjustment axis X.

[0078] In order to limit the amplitude of displacement of the fixing plate 13 relative to the interface plate 12 and relative to the second Y adjustment axis, the interface plate 12 has second stop stops 123 located at a distance and on either side of each second flap of the fixing plate 13. Thus, the second translation T2 of the fixing plate 13 relative to the second Y adjustment axis is constrained and limited by the second stop stops 123.

[0079] The second stop stops 123 are made of material with the fixing plate 13.

[0080] The second stop stops 123 extend in projection from the fixing plate 13, relative to the third adjustment axis Z.

[0081] By means of the interface plate 12 and the mounting plate 13, which are movable relative to each other and to the support 11, it is thus possible to define and adjust a position of the mounting plate 13 relative to a chassis element, the position being defined entirely with respect to the first adjustment axis X, the second adjustment axis Y, and the third adjustment axis Z. As detailed previously, it is possible to translate the support 11 with respect to the third adjustment axis Z and with respect to the chassis element on which the adjustable assembly 1 is intended to be mounted; and it is also possible to translate the interface plate 12 with respect to the first adjustment axis X and with respect to the support 11; and it is possible to translate the mounting plate 13 with respect to the second adjustment axis Y and with respect to the interface plate 12.

[0082] During this adjustment step, according to any one of the aforementioned adjustment axes, the adjustable assembly 1 conforming to the first aspect of the invention is said to be in an adjustment configuration.

[0083] Consequently, these translations along the three aforementioned adjustment axes allow the mounting plate 13 to be placed in the expected position, referred to as the assembly configuration. Once the assembly configuration is obtained, the mounting plate 13 is fixed securely to the interface plate 12, for example by welding, the interface plate 12 is fixed securely to the support 11, and in particular to the bearing face 110A, for example by welding, and the support 11, in particular at the level of its sleeve 110B, is fixed securely to the chassis assembly with which the adjustable assembly 1 conforming to the first aspect of the invention is intended to collaborate.

[0084] The mounting plate 13 further comprises the fastening elements 132 which, in the embodiment illustrated in FIGURES 1 and 2, are formed by one or more through holes intended to cooperate with fastening screws for attaching the bodywork element to the mounting plate 13. More specifically, The mounting plate 13 has four through holes, each located at a corner of said mounting plate 13. The through holes pass completely through the mounting plate 13 relative to the third Z-axis adjustment. Of course, the body element is assembled to the mounting plate 13 once the assembly element is configured in its assembly configuration.

[0085] In the embodiment illustrated in FIGURES 1 and 2, the mounting plate 13 includes an alignment member 133 for defining a precise relative position of the bodywork element interacting with the mounting plate 13. To this end, the alignment member 133 includes at least one, and preferably two, indexing holes in the form of holes passing through the mounting plate 13, relative to the second Y adjustment axis. The alignment member 133 allows the bodywork element to be indexed on the mounting plate 13, in order to define very precisely the expected relative position of the bodywork element with respect to the adjustable assembly 1 according to the first aspect of the invention, and therefore ultimately to the chassis element.

[0086] In summary, the invention relates to an adjustable assembly 1 for a motor vehicle, allowing the assembly configuration of said adjustable assembly 1 to be defined following successive adjustments along three axes X, Y, Z, and ultimately allowing the assembly position of a body element relative to a chassis element with which the adjustable assembly 1 interacts. To this end, the adjustable assembly 1 comprises a clever set of assemblies allowing translations T1, T2 respectively of an interface plate 12 relative to a support 11 of the adjustable assembly 1, and of a mounting plate 13 relative to the interface plate 12.

[0087] Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples just described, and many modifications can be made to these examples without departing from the scope of the invention. In particular, the various features, forms, variants, and embodiments of the invention can be combined with one another in various ways, provided they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. Specifically, all the variants and embodiments described above are combinable.
