Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: System for sealing and mechanical protection of an expansion joint
[0001] The present invention relates, in general, to expansion joints and relates more particularly to expansion joints made between two concrete slabs forming the floor of a concrete structure.
[0002] The invention refers, more specifically, to a system for sealing and mechanically protecting an expansion joint made between two concrete slabs.
[0003] When constructing large concrete structures, such as parking areas, one major difficulty must be overcome.
[0004] Over time, certain parameters, such as temperature, can influence the dimensions of the large-volume concrete blocks making up the structure. Resulting cracks or heaves may appear within the material. It is advisable to divide the blocks into several independent blocks of smaller volume, while ensuring that there is a slight spacing between them, and thus allow for the absorption of these expansions. The gap between the concrete slabs is called an expansion joint.
[0005] However, it is important to maintain the continuity of these constructions, and to ensure their watertightness.
[0006] Some technologies for providing waterproofing, such as those based, for example, on the installation of a bituminous waterproofing sheet with protection formed by a bituminous coating, have a thickness of approximately 60 mm to 70 mm, or greater. There are expansion joint treatment systems based on these technologies.
[0007] Other technologies, such as liquid waterproofing systems, are much thinner, generally less than 10 mm. These offer a significant advantage in terms of reducing loads for the coated structure. On the other hand, no expansion joint treatment system is suitable for these thin waterproofing systems.
[0008] Generally, the thin waterproofing of concrete slabs constituting the floors of buildings or parking areas is carried out using an adhesive waterproofing system, which may for example be a liquid waterproofing system, obtained by hardening a layer of resin so as to form a membrane on the surface of the slabs. This system is however not suitable on its own for restoring the waterproofing and continuity of the slabs in the case of an expansion joint.
[0009] Furthermore, the repeated passage of vehicles over the seal requires protection against crushing and tearing of the adopted sealing system.
[0010] On the other hand, it should be noted that in the case of concrete slabs subjected to the passage of In vehicles, the edges of the joints must be beveled, which prevents their deterioration. It is therefore necessary to offer a device that adapts to this surface profile.
[0011] Furthermore, regulations require expansion joints placed outdoors to be raised, particularly in the event of rain. This additional constraint must be taken into consideration.
[0012] The invention therefore aims to remedy these drawbacks and to propose an expansion joint which is sufficiently watertight, suitable for vehicle traffic, capable of complying with regulations and removable in order to be able to increase its efficiency and its lifespan through regular maintenance.
[0013] A system is thus proposed comprising:
[0014] first and second concrete slabs separated by a gap with beveled edges, the gap forming an expansion joint between the first and second slabs,
[0015] a first sealing layer extending over the gap from the first slab to the second slab,
[0016] a second sealing layer arranged above the first sealing layer and extending over the entire surface of the first and second slabs,
[0017] a crossing sheet fixed above the gap and the first and second sealing layers by removable fixing means, a first longitudinal edge of the crossing sheet being fixed by a first removable fixing means passing through said first longitudinal edge and inserted into the thickness of the first slab, a second longitudinal edge of the crossing sheet being held by a retaining sheet comprising a first end surmounting said second longitudinal edge and a second end fixed by a second removable fixing means passing through said second end and inserted into the thickness of the second slab, the second removable fixing means being arranged at a distance from the second longitudinal edge of the crossing sheet so as to allow relative movement between the crossing sheet and the retaining sheet.
[0018] Preferably, the second sealing layer is continuous from the first slab to the second slab above the gap.
[0019] Preferably, the expansion joint system further comprises a sealing elastomeric strip extending linearly above the second sealing layer.
[0020] In one embodiment, the first and second sealing layers may be disposed flat above the beveled edge gap.
[0021] In one embodiment, the first and second sealing layers may be disposed against the beveled edges of the beveled edge gap and extend flat between said beveled edges.
[0022] In one embodiment, the first and second sealing layers may be arranged against the beveled edges of the beveled edge interval and lyre-shaped in the interval.
[0023] According to one feature, a foam seal may be placed in said groove, above the first and second sealing layers.
[0024] Advantageously, an adhesive covers both sides of the first sealing layer.
[0025] Preferably, the first sealing layer is formed by a strip of elastomeric material bonded at least partially to the concrete support.
[0026] Preferably, the second sealing layer is formed by an adhesive sealing system, and even more preferably by a liquid sealing system arranged on the first and second slabs.
[0027] Preferably, the second sealing layer is formed by a liquid sealing layer extending over the entire surface of the concrete slabs.
[0028] Preferably, the second sealing layer is formed by a resin layer.
[0029] Advantageously, sliding pads can be positioned under the crossing plate and held by the first and second removable fixing means.
[0030] Preferably, the first and second removable fixing means of the crossing sheet are positioned on either side of the first sealing layer and pass through the second sealing layer.
[0031] In one embodiment, the expansion joint system may comprise projection pieces arranged on either side of the gap, and made integral with the first and second concrete slabs by sealing rods.
[0032] In some embodiments, the expansion joint system may include a shim for adjusting the level of the retaining sheet.
[0033] Preferably, the crossing plate and / or the retaining plate comprise non-slip means.
[0034] According to an exemplary embodiment, the anti-slip means may comprise a surface relief. The surface relief may be formed from a checkered or punched sheet.
[0035] Other aims, advantages and characteristics will emerge from the following description of two embodiments taken as purely illustrative examples and made with reference to the appended drawings in which:
[0036] [Fig-1] is a cross-sectional view of a first embodiment of a sealing and mechanical protection system for an expansion joint according to the invention; and
[0037] [Fig.2] is a cross-sectional view of a second embodiment of a sealing and mechanical protection system for an expansion joint according to the invention.
[0038] Reference will first be made to [Fig. 1], which illustrates a sealing and mechanical protection system for a flat-assembled expansion joint, in accordance with the invention, located in a parking area, and designated by the general numerical reference 1.
[0039] According to an alternative to the parking area, the expansion joint to be sealed can be located on a forecourt or even a vehicle circulation path.
[0040] This sealing and mechanical protection system 1 is mainly intended to seal an expansion joint for a floor located indoors.
[0041] In this embodiment, first and second concrete slabs 101a and 101b are separated by a gap 102.
[0042] In the example illustrated, a shallow recess is provided on the surface of the slabs 101a and 101b. First, beveled edges 102a and 102b are formed on the surface of the slabs 101a and 101b so as to delimit the recess. The beveled edges 102a and 102b open onto first faces 103a and 103b facing the surface of the slabs 101a and 101b outside the recess and onto second faces 104a and 104b facing the surface of the slabs 101a and 101b in the recess.
[0043] Secondly, beveled edges 105a and 105b are also provided in the reservation so as to form a groove opening onto the second faces 104a and 104b arranged opposite the surface of the slabs 101a and 101b in the reservation and onto third faces 106a and 106b arranged opposite the gap 102. The presence of the beveled edges 105a and 105b forming the groove positions the second faces 104a and 104b in a raised position relative to the gap 102. The beveled edges 105a and 105b forming the groove make it possible to improve the mechanical strength of the concrete, in particular when the concrete slabs are subjected to the passage of vehicles.
[0044] By surface of the slabs is meant the surface of the first and second slabs 101a and 101b facing the exterior, forming the ground or current part of the environment in which the expansion joint is arranged, unlike the faces of the slabs directed facing the interval 102.
[0045] Preferably, a foam backing 107 is disposed in the gap 102. The backing may be made of closed-cell polyethylene foam. Alternatively, fire-resistant cords and braids are also suitable.
[0046] In one embodiment, it may be provided that the foam seal bottom is covered with a mastic, for example a polyurethane mastic.
[0047] A first sealing layer 108 extends above the gap 102, from the first slab 101a to the second slab 101b.
[0048] As illustrated in [Fig.l], the first sealing layer 108 may form a relaxed strip, positioned against the beveled edges 105a and 105b and against the second faces 104a and 104b of the slabs 101a and 101b matching the geometry of the support, without forming a lyre in the gap 102. In this case, the first sealing layer 108 is arranged flat between the beveled edges 105a and 105b of interval 102.
[0049] In another embodiment, the first sealing layer 108 may be positioned against the second faces 104a and 104b of the first and second slabs 101a, 101b and against the beveled edges 105a and 105b, so as to match the geometry of the support, and arranged in a lyre shape in the gap 102.
[0050] In another embodiment, the first sealing layer 108 may be positioned against the second faces 104a and 104b of the first and second slabs 101a, 101b, and extend flat between the second faces 104a and 104b of the first and second slabs 101a, 101b. In this case, the first sealing layer 108 is stretched over the gap 102.
[0051] The first sealing layer 108 is preferably chosen from elastomeric materials which are particularly advantageous for enabling sealing and resistance to movements of the expansion joint. In addition, the elastomeric materials are particularly advantageous for matching the geometry of the beveled edges and / or forming a lyre.
[0052] In the illustrated example, the first sealing layer 108 is made of FPO (flexible modified polyolefins).
[0053] In the example illustrated, a layer of adhesive 109 makes it possible to ensure the bonding of the first sealing layer 108 on the second concrete faces 104a and 104b of the slabs 101a and 101b previously described. Preferably, an excess of adhesive 109 is added at the ends of the sealing layer 108, preferably in contact with the second faces 104a and 104b.
[0054] The adhesive 109 is, for example, a polyurethane or epoxy adhesive.
[0055] In the illustrated example, the first sealing layer 108 and the adhesive 109 are formed, respectively, by an FPO strip and an epoxy adhesive, the assembly of which is called Tectoflex®. The Tectoflex® assembly has the advantage of exhibiting excellent resistance to endurance movements of the expansion joint.
[0056] A second sealing layer 110 is arranged above the first sealing layer 108 and extends over the entire surface of the first and second slabs 101a, 101b, in the reservation made on the surface of the first and second slabs 101a, 101b, but also, preferably, beyond the reservation, on the current part, which makes it possible to ensure the continuity of sealing between the gap 102 made between the concrete slabs 101a and 101b and the current part.
[0057] Preferably, the second sealing layer 110 is positioned directly on the first sealing layer 108 and extends, even more preferably, on either side of the first sealing layer 108.
[0058] In the illustrated example, the second sealing layer 110 is continuous from the first slab 101a to the second slab 101b above the gap 102. The second sealing layer 110 extends over the entire surface of the first and second slabs 101a, 101b, in the reservation made on the surface of the first and second slabs 101a, 101b, but also beyond the reservation, on the current part, which makes it possible to ensure the continuity of sealing between the interval 102 made between the concrete slabs 101a and 101b and the current part.
[0059] Preferably, the second sealing layer 110 is made from a liquid sealant.
[0060] Liquid waterproofing means a waterproofing layer applicable in the liquid state which forms, after drying, a membrane adhering to the support on which it is applied.
[0061] In the example illustrated, the adhesion obtained by means of a liquid seal is particularly advantageous for forming the sealing continuity between the gap 102, the sealing of which is ensured by the first sealing layer 108 of elastomer material, and the current part.
[0062] Preferably, the second sealing strip 110 is formed by a layer of resin, such as a synthetic, thermoplastic or thermosetting resin, and even more preferably by a polyurethane or polyurea resin.
[0063] In the illustrated example, the second sealing strip 110 is a layer of resin 110 which can be applied in situ by hot spraying.
[0064] The resin layer has advantageous flexibility and elasticity taking into account the endurance movements of the expansion joint, also allowing it better resistance to possible cracking of the slabs 101a and 101b.
[0065] In the example illustrated, the second sealing layer 110 is formed by a Prothéane AC® sealing system based on two-component, solvent-free polyurethane resin constituting, after polymerization, a continuous, adherent film.
[0066] The assembly formed by the first and second sealing strips makes it possible to ensure sealing against water, in particular atmospheric precipitation water.
[0067] Optionally, adhesive tape may be added between the first and second sealing layers 108 and 110.
[0068] In addition, an elastomer strip 111, preferably made of EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer), can extend linearly above the second sealing strip.
[0069] The elastomeric strip 111, which is waterproof and resilient, forms both an additional seal and protection of the first and second sealing layers 108 and 110.
[0070] In one embodiment, it may be provided that a foam seal, preferably of substantially circular section, is positioned between the second sealing layer 110 and the elastomer strip 111. The foam seal is particularly advantageous in an embodiment in which the first and second sealing layers 108, 110 are arranged in a lyre shape in the gap 102, conforming to and maintaining the lyre shape. The foam seal also makes it possible to keep the elastomeric strip 111 flat and thus prevent the accumulation of water in the lyre.
[0071] The expansion joint system 1 further comprises a bridging sheet 112 fixed above the gap 102 and the first and second sealing layers 108 and 110 by removable fixing means.
[0072] The crossing plate 112 allows crossing of the expansion joint and protects the sealing system formed by the first and second sealing layers 108 and 110 and the elastomer strip 111, and facilitates the movement of pedestrians or vehicles above the sealed expansion joint.
[0073] The crossing plate 112 comprises first and second opposite longitudinal edges 112a and 112b positioned, respectively, above the first and second slabs 101a and 101b.
[0074] The first longitudinal edge 112a of the crossing plate 112 is fixed to the first slab 101a by a first removable fixing means 113a. The first removable fixing means 113a passes through the first longitudinal edge 112a of the crossing plate 112, the elastomer strip 111 and the second sealing layer 110, and is inserted into the thickness of the first slab 101a.
[0075] The second longitudinal edge 112b of the crossing plate 112 is held above the second slab 101b by a holding plate 114.
[0076] The retaining sheet 114 has first and second opposite longitudinal ends 114a and 114b.
[0077] On the one hand, the second longitudinal edge 112b of the crossing plate 112 is surmounted by the first end 114a of the holding plate 114. On the other hand, the second end 114b of the holding plate 114 is fixed by a second removable fixing means 113b.
[0078] The second removable fixing means 113b passes through the second end 114b of the retaining sheet 114, the elastomer strip 111 and the second sealing layer 110, and is inserted into the thickness of the second slab 101b.
[0079] The holding plate 114 ensures that the crossing plate 112 is held tight and locked and allows users to cross the expansion joint.
[0080] The first and second fixing means 113a and 113b pass through, respectively, the first and second slabs 101a and 101b in the provided reservation, and are positioned on either side of the first sealing layer 108, which in the example illustrated is a strip of elastomeric material, without passing through it, so as to maintain the sealing of the first sealing layer 108.
[0081] In the illustrated example, the first and second removable fixing means 113a and 113b are screws.
[0082] The screws are, for example, stainless steel cylindrical head screws with a hexagonal socket drive. The individual screws may be provided at regular intervals on both sides of the interval 102.
[0083] As illustrated, sliding pads 115a and 115b may be positioned under the crossing plate 112, serving as a support for the latter. The sliding pads 115a and 115b, positioned between the elastomer strip 111 and the crossing plate 112, may be held by the first and second removable fixing means 113a and 113b.
[0084] The sliding pads 115a and 115b ensure the smooth sliding of the crossing plate 112 and prevent punching or tearing of the seal.
[0085] In the example illustrated, oblong holes are provided in the crossing plate 112, the holding plate 114 and the sliding pads 115a and 115b.
[0086] The screws pass through the crossing plate 112, the holding plate 114 and the sliding pads 115a and 115b via the oblong holes. They are anchored in female threaded sockets, themselves anchored, preferably, in chemical anchors comprising sealing resin.
[0087] As illustrated, the first and second removable fastening means 113a and 113b may include flat washers 116a and 116b or, alternatively, conical or toothed lock washers.
[0088] The second removable fixing means 113b is arranged at a distance from the second longitudinal edge 112b of the crossing plate 112 forming a clearance 117 between the crossing plate 112 and the second removable fixing means 113b. Thus, a relative movement between the crossing plate 112 and the holding plate 114 is possible.
[0089] The crossing plate is able to move in a transverse direction, in particular under the action of the expansion of the slabs 101a, 101b. The holding plate 114 and the first and second removable fixing means 113a, 113b allow great freedom of movement for the crossing plate, and consequently for the first and second slabs 101a, 101b between them, in the direction perpendicular to the interval 102.
[0090] In an embodiment in which the first and second sealing layers 108, 110 are arranged in a lyre shape in the gap 102, this freedom of movement is enhanced by the lyre shape.
[0091] Such an expansion joint system 1 then includes a seal as well as mechanical protection of the seal while retaining the function of the expansion joint between the two slabs 101a and 101b.
[0092] It may be provided that a plurality of adjacent crossing plates 112 are arranged along the gap 102. A clearance may be provided between two consecutive crossing plates 112, so as to allow longitudinal expansion. For this same purpose, a similar clearance may be provided between two consecutive sliding pads.
[0093] A level adjustment shim 118 may be arranged under the holding plate 114 so as to position the first end 114a of the holding plate 114 level to be arranged above and in contact with the second longitudinal edge 112b of the crossing plate 112.
[0094] In the example illustrated, the level adjustment shim 118 and the holding plate 114 are in one piece and the level adjustment shim 118 is formed by folding the second end 114b of the holding plate 114.
[0095] Preferably, the crossing plate 112 and the holding plate 114 comprise non-slip means. As can be seen in [Fig.l], the crossing plate 112 and the holding plate 114 may comprise a surface relief obtained, for example, from checkered sheet metal or by punching.
[0096] Advantageously, a wearing course 119, suitable for vehicle traffic, can extend on either side of the assembly formed by the crossing sheet 112 and the retaining sheet 114, along the first faces 103a and 103b of the first and second slabs 101a and 101b, on the second sealing layer 110, corresponding in the example illustrated to the resin layer. In the example illustrated, the wearing course 119 extends on either side of the elastomer strip 111.
[0097] Another embodiment of a sealing and mechanical protection system for an expansion joint suitable for outdoor location, and particularly advantageous in the event of rain, is illustrated in [Fig.2], under the numerical reference 2.
[0098] This second embodiment, in which the elements similar to the first embodiment bear identical references, differs from the first embodiment in that projection pieces 220a, 220b are arranged on either side of an interval 202, and are made integral with the first and second concrete slabs 201a, 201b by sealing rods 221a, 221b.
[0099] In this embodiment, the installation of the waterproofing and mechanical protection does not require a reservation with beveled edges.
[0100] On the other hand, a reservation is preferably provided on the surface of the slabs 201a and 201b. Edges 202a and 202b are formed on the surface of the slabs 201a and 201b so as to delimit the reservation. The edges 202a and 202b open onto first faces 203a and 203b facing the surface of the slabs 201a and 201b outside the reservation and onto second faces 204a and 204b facing the surface of the slabs 201a and 201b in the reservation. The first faces 203a and 203b or current part are raised relative to the second faces 204a and 204b.
[0101] The reservation is covered with two layers of concrete forming projections 220a, 220b, cast opposite the edges 202a and 202b and the second faces 204a and 204b so as to form two bosses with beveled edges 222a, 222b. The beveled edges 222a, 222b open onto the gap 202, thus forming a groove, and onto the upper faces 223a and 223b of the projections 220a, 220b. Oblique faces 224a and 224b form a continuity between the upper faces 223a and 223b and the first faces 203a and 203b so that the upper faces 223a and 223b are raised relative to the first faces 203a and 203b, facilitating the flow of water.
[0102] The projections 220a, 220b may, instead of being cast in place, correspond to prefabricated elements.
[0103] Advantageously, adhesive mortar 225 can be placed on second faces 204a and 204b and edges 202a and 202b of the slabs 201a, 201b so as to fix the projections 220a and 220b. The steel rods 221a and 221b driven into holes filled with sealing resin reinforce this fixing. These rods can be provided at regular intervals on each side of the gap 202.
[0104] In addition, an epoxy resin seal 226 may be provided to fill any gaps between the edges 202a and 202b and the projections 220a and 220b.
[0105] In this second embodiment, the first sealing layer 108 is positioned against the beveled edges 222a and 222b and against the upper faces 223a and 223b of the projections 220a and 220b.
[0106] The adhesive layer 109 at least partially covers the two faces of the first sealing layer 108, so as to fix the latter against the beveled edges 105a and 105b of the projections 220a and 220b.
[0107] The second sealing layer 110, arranged above the first sealing layer 108, extends over the entire surface of the first and second slabs 201a, 201b formed, in this second embodiment, in part by the surface of the projections 220a and 220b. The second sealing layer 110 extends on either side of the first sealing layer 108, against the upper faces 223a and 223b and the oblique faces 224a and 224b of the projections 220a and 220b and against the first faces 203a and 203b of the slabs 201a and 201b.
[0108] The elastomer strip 111, the crossing plate 112, the holding plate 114 and the sliding pads 115a and 115b extend above the upper faces 223a and 223b of the projections 220a and 220b.
[0109] The wearing course 118 extends on either side of the elastomer strip 111, above the oblique faces 224a and 224b of the projections 220a and 220b and the first faces 203a and 203b of the slabs 201a and 201b.
[0110] Thus, a watertight expansion joint system 1, 2 as previously described provides effective sealing, includes removable mechanical protection for its maintenance and repair and withstands repeated vehicle traffic. The expansion joint system 1, 2, resistant to deformation and expansion movements of the slabs, is available in several embodiments suitable for outdoor and indoor use, and for flat or raised expansion joints.
[0111] In addition, the mechanical protection is suitable for thin seals.
[0112] Vehicles, two-wheelers, pedestrians, people with reduced mobility or even supermarket trolleys can easily pass through the currently proposed expansion joint system without damaging the sealing of the expansion joint.
[0113] The absence of steps and extra thickness of the expansion joint system avoids any risk of pedestrians falling by bumping or slipping, any risk of friction of the underbody of vehicles and offers unhindered movement for people with reduced mobility.
[0114] Furthermore, the presence of the first and second sealing layers 108 and 110 of different nature forms a double-stage seal, adaptable to all geometries and configurations.
