Description

Title of the invention: CABLE LOCKING DEVICE

[0001] The invention relates to a cable-operated and lockable half-opening device, in particular with a key lock.

[0002] A half-opening device is intended to ensure the half-opening of an opening while preventing the opening of the opening completely. The half-opening device is intended to be used more specifically for windows and French windows without however being limited thereto.

[0003] A half-opening device consists of three parts, a first part (base) fixed to a construction element such as a door frame or a window frame, a second part (base) fixed to one of the openings and a third connecting part intended to connect the first two parts when half-opening of the opening is desired. In a cable-operated and lockable half-opening device, the cable constitutes the third part / the connecting member between the two fixing bases of the device. The cable comprises a first distal end which is trapped in one of the bases, and a second free distal end which is capable of being engaged in the other base, called the locking base, said second end of the cable being capable of being locked in the engaged position by locking means which are integrated into the locking base and actuated by a key-type means (mechanical key).

[0004] In a known example of locking means, as described in document WO2014108680, the locking base comprises a movable vertical plate stressed by a spring and secured to the barrel of a key lock, arranged horizontally, the rotation of the barrel causing the translation of the plate which opposes the stress of the spring, while the free end of the cable comprises a groove in which the end of the plate engages for locking.

[0005] However, such a half-opening device requires several manufacturing parts including a spring. However, it is always desirable to reduce the production costs of this type of device and to simplify the assembly process. In addition, this product has a relatively massive appearance, mainly in thickness in the horizontal direction, which does not contribute to its aesthetics.

[0006] The invention therefore aims to propose a cable-operated and lockable half-opening device, which does not have the aforementioned drawbacks, while being able to retain a key locking mechanism.

[0007] According to the invention, the cable-operated and lockable half-opening device comprises a first fixing base, a second fixing base called the locking base and having a longitudinal axis X, and a connecting cable comprising a first distal end trapped (and irremovable) in the first base and a second distal end provided with a groove and capable of being engaged and locked in the locking base, the locking base comprising a locking part capable of being translated to cooperate with the groove of the end of the cable when the latter is engaged in the locking base, and a rotary actuating member secured to the locking part, the rotation of the actuating member causing the translation of the part. Said half-opening device is characterized in that the actuating member has its axis of rotation parallel to the X axis (therefore vertical), while the locking part is capable of being translated perpendicular to the X axis (i.e. in a horizontal plane).

[0008] The longitudinal axis X corresponds to a vertical axis in the installed position of the half-opening device ready for use.

[0009] Thus, the rotary actuating member (such as a barrel) is oriented vertically and not horizontally as in the prior art, which minimizes the depth of the device, making it more aesthetic. In addition, the locking part is arranged perpendicular to the direction of arrangement of the actuating member, i.e. in a horizontal plane in the installed position of the device; this arrangement does not require the use of a spring. Furthermore, the number of parts is minimized and the parts of the half-opening device are assembled quickly during manufacture. Finally, the operating principle of the half-opening device is as simple as possible.

[0010] In the remainder of the description, the terms “horizontal”, “vertical”, “upper”, “lower”, “top”, “bottom”, are understood to describe elements of the half-opening device in the installed position of said half-opening device.

[0011] According to one characteristic, the actuating member and the locking part comprise mutual cooperation (mutual coupling) forms, in particular male-female forms, preferably the actuating member comprises a male form at one of its distal ends while the locking part comprises a female part in which said male part is engaged.

[0012] According to another characteristic, the locking base comprises an inlet orifice for the cable; the inlet orifice is arranged in a plane perpendicular to the X axis and at the level of a so-called lower face of the locking base in the mounted position of the half-opening device.

[0013] According to another characteristic, the locking base comprises a cavity extending perpendicular to the X axis and housing the locking part, an entry orifice for the cable, which is arranged in a plane perpendicular to the X axis and which opens into the cavity, and an inner housing extending parallel to the X axis and communicating with the cavity at a distance from the orifice. In particular, the inner housing parallel to the X axis is located inside the locking base against the so-called front face of the locking base (front face which is closed); the inner housing opens onto the so-called upper face of the locking base. Preferably, the receiving cavity of the locking part is entirely open on the so-called rear face of the locking base.

[0014] Advantageously, the actuating member and the locking part are mounted inside the locking base, the locking part having been mounted before the actuating member from a so-called rear face which is open of the locking base, rear face which is open, while the actuating member has been mounted in an internal housing parallel to the X axis from a so-called upper face of the locking base (opposite the entry orifice of the connecting cable) until said actuating member comes into cooperation with the locking part.

[0015] Preferably, the actuating member is a barrel, in particular a key barrel, preferably the barrel being further removable when the half-opening device is not in the use position, in particular the barrel being a tumbler barrel. If the locking base is for example damaged, the removability of the barrel allows it to be recovered for reuse.

[0016] According to another characteristic, the locking part (movable in translation) is capable of adopting an unlocked position (for which the connecting cable is prevented from being held) and a locked position (for which the connecting cable remains held and locked). Advantageously, the locking part comprises a first part which is made integral with the actuating member and a second part which is capable of cooperating with the second distal end of the cable and of holding it in place in the so-called locked position of the locking part. The first part of the locking part is made integral with the actuating member preferably by mechanical coupling, in particular according to an engagement of male and female shapes; the mechanical coupling is done for example by simple engagement without friction.

[0017] In a preferred embodiment of the locking part, said locking part comprises a part which forms, along the edge of the locking part (opposite the part coupled to the actuating member), a cutout, in particular a cutout of semi-cylindrical geometry, preferably of semi-circular section, for the engagement of the second distal end of the cable at said edge of the locking part, said cutout comprising a retaining element intended to cooperate and hold in place the second distal end of the connecting cable. preferably, the retaining element forms a shoulder, in particular semi-circular, preventing the withdrawal by pulling of the connecting cable; the cutout is intended to cooperate by abutment with the groove of the second distal end of the cable and the shoulder being intended to be positioned just above the groove so that the termination of said second distal end of the cable remains trapped by resting on the shoulder. The shoulder constitutes a stop for the termination of the second distal end of the cable preventing the withdrawal of the cable if a person pulls on the cable (downwards).

[0018] In an alternative embodiment of the locking part, it could be elastically deformable and constitute a clipping jaw for the end of the connecting cable.

[0019] The half-opening device is spring-free.

[0020] Characteristics and other advantages of the invention will appear on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of non-limiting example, and made with reference to the appended drawings and in which

[0021] The present invention is now described with the aid of examples which are solely illustrative and in no way limitative of the scope of the invention, and from the attached illustrations, in which: [Fig.l] represents a perspective and front view of a half-opening device according to the invention, in the non-half-open position. [Fig.2] corresponds to the rear face of the half-opening device of [Fig.l]. [Fig.3] shows the rear face in perspective of the locking base without the locking part. [Fig.4] shows a perspective view through transparency (in order to see the inside) of the locking base of the half-opening device of [Fig.l], after introduction of the connecting cable and just before locking. [Fig.5] corresponds to [Fig.4] after locking, i.e. in the locked position of the cable. [Fig.6] is a side view through transparency of [Fig.5]. [Fig.7] is a sectional view of [Fig.6].

[0022] The half-opening device 1 according to the invention, illustrated in the figures, comprises a first support base 2, a second locking base 3, and a connecting member 4 which is carried by the support base 2 and is intended to cooperate with the locking base 3 to ensure by connection a half-opening of the opening. The locking base 3 comprises a locking part 5 capable of being movable in translation and an actuating member 6 capable of being movable in rotation and generating the mobility of the locking part 5. The rotary actuating member 6 is here a Key cylinder. Turning the key in one direction and then the other turns the cylinder into two separate positions, one called locking and the other called unlocking.

[0023] The association of the half-opening device with an opening leaf is achieved by making the support base 2 and the locking base 3 integral with two separate elements of the opening leaf to ensure half-opening via the connecting member 4. For example, the support base 2 is made integral with a fixed construction element such as the frame of a door, while the locking base 3 is fixed to the leaf of the opening leaf, such as the leaf of the door.

[0024] The locking base 3 has a longitudinal axis X which in the installed position of the locking base is vertical.

[0025] Most of the elements of the bases 2 and 3 of the half-opening device are made of rigid and resistant materials, in particular steel and zamak. The half-opening device is fixed to the openings made of wood, aluminum, or polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

[0026] The connecting cable 4 has a first distal end 40 trapped in the support base 2, and a second free distal end 41 intended to cooperate with the locking base 3. Each of the ends 40 and 41 of the cable 4 has an added end piece 40' ([Fig.2]), respectively 41' ([Fig.1]), for example crimped.

[0027] The tip 41' of the free distal end 41 comprises a groove 41A. This groove 41A is intended to cooperate with the locking part 5 of the locking base 3, as will be seen later.

[0028] Preferably, the end piece 41 has a conical or truncated cone-shaped termination 41B. This pointed or ogive shape, combined with the pushing force exerted by the user on the free end 41, contributes to the introduction of said end 41 of the cable into an inlet orifice 30 of the locking base 3.

[0029] In addition, the end piece 41 preferably comprises in its central part a peripheral collar 42 intended to cooperate with a flat or the lower external surface 30A of the body of the locking base (external wall of the locking base), which forms a support stop for said collar when inserting the end piece 41 into the inlet orifice 30 (Figures 5 to 7). This makes it possible to constitute means of identification for the user who automatically no longer needs to continue the introduction of the end piece of the connecting cable 4, because the cooperation of the collar against the stop corresponds to the engagement position of the groove 41A of the end piece at the level of the translation plane of the locking part 5.

[0030] The support base 2 comprises in particular, as visible in Figures 1 and 2, a fixing plate 20 for securing to the construction element, a retaining cavity 21 which contains trapped one of the distal ends 40 of the part of link 4.

[0031] Concerning the association / imprisonment of the cable and its end piece 40' in the cavity 21 of the support base 2, this is done during the manufacture of the device in the factory: the cable without its end piece is introduced into the cavity 21; once the cable is engaged, the end piece 40' is attached to the end 40 of the cable by introduction from the rear face of the support base 2, and is crimped.

[0032] The fixing plate 20 of the support base 2 is provided with through holes 22 ([Fig.2]) which are intended to accommodate fixing members of the screw type 23 to ensure the fixing of the plate against a surface for receiving and fixing the fixed construction element. Each screw head may be covered with a cover 24 ([Fig.l]).

[0033] The retaining cavity 21 projecting from the plate 20 of the plate has a light 25 which is advantageously oblong and arranged at the lower end of the cavity and on the front face. With reference to [Fig. 1], the light 25 is open from an upper end 25A to a lower end 25B. The opening of the light, on the one hand, extends between its two ends 25A and 25B in the longitudinal direction of the plate 20 (vertical direction in the mounted position of the support base 2), and on the other hand, its lower end 25B is open along the depth of the cavity 21 transversely to the plate 20. In this way, the distal end 40 of the connecting member 4, trapped in the cavity 21, has freedom of movement both from the front and transversely to the plate 20 of the support base.

[0034] The locking base 3 comprises a body which is hollow to house the various parts involved in locking / unlocking the free end 41 of the connecting cable 4.

[0035] With particular reference to [Fig. 2], the locking base 3 has an oblong body with a longitudinal axis X. The body of the locking base is open on the rear face 31, a face corresponding to the face for affixing and fixing against the leaf in the position of use of the half-opening device. Just as for the support base 2, the locking base 3 is provided with upper and lower through-holes 32 which are intended to accommodate fixing members of the screw type 32' to ensure its fixing (the screws 32' being schematically illustrated in Figures 4 to 7). Each screw head may be covered with a cover 32” as visible in [Fig. 1].In addition, the locking base 3 comprises the inlet orifice 30 for the introduction of the free end 41 of the connecting cable, a cavity 33 which communicates with the orifice 30 to accommodate said free end 41 of the cable and which houses the locking part 5, and a housing (interior) 34 (visible in figures 4) which accommodates the actuating member 6 and which communicates with the cavity 33.

[0036] The housing 34 for receiving said actuating member 6 extends along the longitudinal axis X. The cavity 33 for mounting the locking part 5 extends per pendicular to the X axis. The cavity 33 is accessible via the rear face 31 of the locking base and is open thereto. The housing 34 is internal to the body of the locking base and is accessible via the upper face 30B of the locking base. The longitudinally shaped housing 34 communicates inside the body of the locking base 3 with the cavity 33. The combination of the housing 34 and the cavity 33 has a general L shape ([Fig.6]).

[0037] The housing 34 is cylindrical in shape to house the actuating member 6 which here consists of a key barrel. The housing 34 (of elongated shape) opens at one end at the upper face 30B of the body of the locking base 3 (in a plane perpendicular to the axis X) and communicates at the opposite end with the cavity 33. The actuating member 6 (the barrel) has been inserted into the housing 34 and is able to be held there by virtue of its design and that of the housing 34 accommodating it. Preferably the actuating member (the barrel) 6 is removable. For this purpose, the barrel 6 is preferably a sequined one; as visible in [Fig.7], the last sequin 60, which is coupled to an elastic return means, cooperates in the housing 34 with a shape having a stop function preventing the extraction of the barrel, the barrel only being able to be removed by pressing on the elastic sequin 60 accessible from the cavity 33 on the rear face ([Fig.5]) after dismantling the half-opening device. The barrel 6 has its end 60A equipped with its lock 61 with key 61', which is flush with the upper face 30B of the locking base 3. The opposite end 60B of the barrel 6 cooperates (inside the locking base) with the locking part 5. The inner housing 34 is located against the wall of the front face of the locking base 3.

[0038] The locking part 5 extends in a direction perpendicular to the axis X, and therefore to the housing 34 and to the actuating member 6. The locking part 5 has been mounted in the cavity 33 by the open rear face 31 of the locking base 3. The locking part 5 has been mounted before the actuating member (the barrel) 6. For its cooperation with the actuating member 6, the locking part 5 is engaged until it is abutted against the wall of the front face of the locking base; the distal end of the part is then opposite the right of the internal housing 34 and therefore opposite the right of the actuating member 6 intended to cooperate by coupling. The locking part 5 is able to be held in the cavity 33 by its cooperation with the barrel 6 and by its imprisonment when the locking base 3 is fixed, then closing its rear face 31.The locking part 5 is able to be translated during the rotational actuation of the barrel 6. To facilitate the translation, the cavity 33 comprises guide shapes 33' of direction perpendicular to the axis X. The locking part 5 is able to adopt, on the one hand, an unlocked position ([Fig.4]) for which said locking part is arranged. abutting against the internal wall of the cavity 33 opposite the open rear face 31 of the locking base, while being set back from the orifice 30 to allow free access to the interior of the cavity opposite the orifice 30 for the end 41 of the cable 4, and on the other hand, a locked position (figures 5 to 7) for which said locking part 5 is positioned at least partly opposite the orifice 30. The locked and unlocked positions of the locking part 5 remain in place thanks to the position of the actuating member (the barrel) 6 which is able to adopt two respective fixed positions.

[0039] The locking part 5 comprises a first part 50 made integral with the actuating member 6 and a second part 51 capable of cooperating with the end piece 41' of the cable 4 and of holding it in place in the locked position.

[0040] The first part 50 of the locking part 5 and the termination 60B of the actuating member 6 cooperate by mutual engagement of male-female shapes. Preferably, the termination 60B of the actuating member 6 has a male shape, while the first part 50 of the locking part 5 has a female shape. When mounting the parts in the body of the locking base 3, the locking part 5 is mounted before the barrel 6.

[0041] With reference to figures 2 and 5 to 7, the second part 51 of the locking part 5 forms along its edge a cutout open towards the outside of said locking part 5 and opposite the rear face 31 or turned in the direction of the inlet orifice 30, the cutout being of semi-cylindrical geometry, preferably of semi-circular section. The second part or cutout 51 further comprises a retaining element 52. In the locked position, said second part 51 partially surrounds the end piece 41' (along its half-perimeter) and holds it by the retaining element 52, preventing any withdrawal of the cable 4 from the orifice 30. Preferably, the retaining element 52 constitutes a (semi-circular) shoulder in the cutout 51. The cutout 51 cooperates with the groove 41A of the end piece 41', the shoulder 52 being positioned just above the groove 41A (figures 5 and 7) so that the termination 41B of the end piece rests on the shoulder 52.

[0042] The operation of the half-opening device 1 is as follows.

[0043] The support base 2 and the locking base 3 are fixed to a frame and to the associated opening, and are in the configuration of [Fig.l]. The key 61' is inserted into the lock 61 and turned so that the locking part 5 is in its unlocked position ([Fig.4]). The user takes hold of the cable 4 and inserts the end piece 41' which was hanging into the orifice 30 of the locking base 3. When the end piece 41' comes into abutment by its peripheral collar 42 against the lower external surface 30A, the user then turns the key 61' which pivots the actuating member or barrel 6, causing the translation of the locking part 5, the cutout 51 cooperates / partially traps the end piece 41'. As soon as the key is turned, the user can release the cable 4, because the shoulder 52 supports the end piece 41' which cannot fall and cannot be removed, the lock is operational. To unlock, the user turns the key again, which translates the locking part 5 in the opposite direction, releasing the end piece 41' which falls directly by gravity.
