Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: REMOVABLE FIXING DEVICE, ASSEMBLY KIT AND CORRESPONDING METHODS Scope of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of furniture, in the context of the arrangement of private, public, or even professional environments, such as homes, offices, shops, or public buildings.
[0002] More particularly, the invention relates to a removable fixing device for a first piece of furniture to a second piece of furniture, so as to assemble furniture structures.
[0003] The invention also relates to a furniture assembly kit, a manufacturing method and a method for assembling such a furniture assembly kit. Prior art
[0004] In the furniture sector, manufacturers face numerous constraints, such as storage and transport, which often necessitates that furniture be sold in flat-pack form, composed of several elements that are then assembled to create the furniture, for example, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a shelf, or a desk. For practical reasons, particularly for handling and protection, it is useful for this furniture to be demountable, for example, when moving house.
[0005] To assemble the various elements of a piece of furniture, it is known to create at least one through hole in at least one of the furniture elements, and a hole, which may be blind or through, in at least one other of the furniture elements, then to join one furniture element to a second furniture element by means of a screw, and to repeat the operation several times to obtain the furniture. These screws, once inserted into the through holes and then tightened, thus make it possible to hold the elements together.
[0006] If some through hole ends and some screw heads can be left exposed, it is also known to conceal at least some of them from the outside by means of a screw cover.
[0007] Such screw covers, which are generally wooden or plastic plugs, are mounted over the screw heads and are often glued or simply wedged into the screw head recesses so as not to protrude from the exterior surface of the furniture component. They typically have a diameter substantially equal to the diameter at the end of the through hole so as to remain in place by friction or adhesion.
[0008] However, a drawback of such screw covers is that they are relatively difficult for a non-professional user to insert optimally when assembling furniture, and also to remove when disassembling the furniture. Inserting a screw cover requires the screw to be inserted correctly beforehand to allow sufficient space for the cover to be positioned. It is therefore necessary to pre-drill the hole and drive the screw in far enough so that the cover has enough room to be positioned. Indeed, if one relies on the screw's self-drilling capabilities, the hole will not be sufficiently regular and precise for the cover to be properly positioned. Furthermore, removing the screw cover to access the screw to be loosened, for example, to disassemble the furniture, is relatively difficult without damaging the cover, for example, by drilling.Furthermore, even if it is not necessary to destroy it, removing the screw cover typically requires the use of appropriate tools to leverage the screw cover, which presents a significant risk of damaging the furniture element at the end of the through hole.
[0009] Other screw covers are mounted over the screw heads and protrude from the end The screw cover is a protrusion on the outer surface of a piece of furniture. This allows for easy removal while minimizing the risk of damaging the furniture. To ensure these screw covers stay in place, they feature a retaining portion extending from the cover body, which engages with the screw head either by gluing, by rubbing against the cylindrical surface of the hole, or by inserting the screw head into its recess.
[0010] However, one drawback of such a screw cover is that the protrusion formed on the outer surface of the furniture element detracts from the object's aesthetics and may hinder its integration into a predefined environment. Furthermore, another potential disadvantage of such a screw cover is that its removal presents a risk of breakage at the retaining portion, which may remain stuck in the recess in the screw head or tear due to the adhesive. Consequently, the screw cover cannot be reused after disassembly.
[0011] There is therefore a need to resolve at least some of the drawbacks of the prior art. Description of the invention
[0012] The invention relates to a removable fastening device for a first piece of furniture to a second piece of furniture, said first piece of furniture having a through hole having a first end opening onto an exterior surface of said first piece of furniture and a second end configured to be positioned opposite a hole formed in said second piece of furniture, said through hole having: - a bore having a first diameter DI; - a clearance, provided in continuity with said bore and presenting a cylindrical shape with a second diameter D2 smaller than said first diameter Dl, a shoulder separating said bore from said clearance; - a countersink cut into the continuity of said clearance, and - a portion of passageway provided in continuity with said countersink,
[0013] said removable fastening device comprising a screw cover formed at least by made primarily from a magnetic material, and a screw equipped with a screw head and a screw body,
[0014] said removable fastening device being movable between at least one released position, and an assembled position in which: - said screw is housed in said through hole, the screw body being partially housed at the level of said passage portion and being held in said hole of said second piece of furniture, said screw head being housed at the level of said countersink, and - said screw cover is supported against said shoulder so as to be placed in the continuity of the outer surface of said first piece of furniture, and is at a distance from said screw head.
[0015] The invention thus proposes a novel and inventive approach in which the removable fastening device used includes a screw cover that is easy to insert and correctly position because it is magnetically attracted to the screw and rests against the shoulder. Consequently, its placement in continuity with the outer surface of said first piece of furniture is achieved without difficulty or obstruction for an operator.
[0016] Furthermore, the fact that said screw cover is at a distance from said screw head prevents the magnetic force that attracts the screw cover and the screw from being too strong and compromising a possible removal of the screw cover.
[0017] In addition, the removal of such a removable device is done without risk of damaging the furniture element at the end of the through hole or the screw cover itself because the latter is held in place by the magnetic attraction force exerted between the screw and the screw cover.
[0018] Thus, the removable fastening device proves reusable because it does not sustain any damage during assembly or disassembly. Furthermore, it does not cause any damage to the furniture components during assembly or disassembly.
[0019] According to a particular aspect of the invention, said screw is housed in said through hole, the body of the screw being partially housed at the level of said portion of passage and being screwed into said hole of said second piece of furniture.

[0042] Detailed description of an embodiment of the invention
[0043] The general principle of the invention is based on the implementation of a device Reusable, removable fastener including a screw cover and screw, and a furniture assembly kit. The screw cover is easy to insert and position correctly, and its removal is safe and won't damage the furniture.
[0044] Throughout this description, the term "furniture" refers to any item of furniture intended for personal or professional use, used to furnish or decorate a space or place. This could include, for example, furniture for furnishing private, public, or even professional environments, such as homes, offices, shops, or public buildings.
[0045] A first embodiment of the invention is now presented in relation to figures 1 to 3, taken as a simple illustrative and non-limiting example.
[0046] According to the invention, the furniture assembly kit comprises a first piece of furniture A, a second piece of furniture B, and a removable fixing device.
[0047] It should be noted that the furniture assembly kit may also include other furniture elements, for example elements to be inserted between furniture element A and furniture element B.
[0048] This removable fastening device includes a screw cover 6 formed at least by tiellement from a magnetic material, and a screw 7 having a screw head 71 and a screw body 70.
[0049] It should be noted that the screw must contain ferromagnetic materials (such as iron, nickel or cobalt) so as to be able to interact magnetically with the screw cover according to the invention.
[0050] Furniture elements may, for example, be beams, uprights, crossbeams, or furniture panels. They may also be shelves or furniture doors.
[0051] According to one aspect of the invention, at least one of the first furniture element A and of the second furniture element B comprises a material from among: - a wood; - a wood derivative.
[0052] In the embodiment presented, both elements comprise wood. Wood or wood derivatives include, in particular, the following materials:
[0053] - solid wood;
[0054] - single-layer or multi-layer panelled wood, glued laminated or finger-jointed (GLC);
[0055] - veneered woods such as plywood or blockboard / laminated plywood, the laminated veneer lumber;
[0056] - particle boards such as OSB, veneered, melamine, laminated;
[0057] - soft or hard fiberboard, medium density (MDF) or high density (HDF);
[0058] - honeycomb panels (covered with particleboard, MDF, plywood) or decorative laminates, etc.);
[0059] - decorative laminates (HPL), or
[0060] - wood-polymer composite panels (WPC).
[0061] As illustrated, the first furniture element A has a through hole 9 having a first end 90 opening onto an external surface of the first furniture element A and a second end configured to be positioned opposite a hole 8, which is here a blind hole 8, formed in the second furniture element B, when the first furniture element A and the second furniture element B are positioned so as to be fixed to each other.
[0062] This through hole 9, more particularly illustrated in figures 1 and 2, is therefore formed in the first furniture element A and comprises: - a bore 1 having a diameter DI; - a clearance 3, made in continuity with bore 1 and having a cylindrical shape with a diameter D2 less than the diameter Dl, a shoulder 2 separating bore 1 from clearance 3; - a countersink 4 cut in line with clearance 3, and - a through hole 5 made in continuity with the countersink 4 and having a diameter D5.
[0063] As for the blind hole 8, it is formed in the second element B and has a diameter D6 which is here less than the diameter D5 of the through hole 5.
[0064] The second furniture element B may also include a threaded metal insert inserted into the hole 8, so as to cooperate with the thread of a screw.
[0065] The hole in the second piece of furniture can also be a simple through hole, with the screw passing through the first and second pieces of furniture and attaching to an external part such as a nut.
[0066] In this case, in one embodiment, this hole in the second piece of furniture could have a diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the hole through the first piece of furniture.
[0067] The countersink 4 is designed to accommodate the conical part of the screw head. Its purpose is to limit the penetration of the screw 7 during tightening, by retaining as much material as possible, and therefore by conforming to the conical shape of the screw head.
[0068] It should be noted that with the implementation of the countersink 4 in continuity with the clearance 3, the countersink is said to be embedded.
[0069] As for the through hole 9, it can, for example, be formed during a manufacturing process for a furniture assembly kit comprising the following successive steps: - a drilling step of the passage portion 5 according to a diameter D5; - a drilling step of clearance 3 according to a diameter D2; - a milling step to obtain countersink 4, said countersink being po positioned between the passage section 5 and the clearance 3, the countersink forming a continuity with the passage section 5 and the clearance 3; - a drilling step of bore 1 according to a diameter DI.
[0070] It should be noted that the addition of a clearance to the countersink is intended to limit the diameter of the hole opening into the bore.
[0071] The passage portion preferably has a diameter D5 slightly greater than the diameter of the threaded part 72 of the screw so that when inserting the screw, assembly is facilitated, and conversely disassembly, preventing the screw from getting stuck in the passage hole.
[0072] As described above, the removable fastening device includes a screw cover 6 formed at least partially from a magnetic material, and a screw 7 having a screw head 71 and a screw body 70 having a thread 72.
[0073] In this embodiment, the screw 7 is a wood screw so that the screw head has a conical shape.
[0074] According to other embodiments, however, it could be provided that the screw is of a another type. For example, we could specify that the screw is of the following type: - screws for plasterboard; - metal screws; - sheet metal screws, or - concrete screw.
[0075] According to the invention, the removable fastening device is movable between at least one released position, and an assembled position in which: - the screw 7 is housed in the through hole 9, the screw body 70 being housed at the level of the passage portion 5 so that the threaded part 72 is at least partially housed and screwed into the hole 8 which is blind here, and the screw head 71 being housed at the level of the countersink 4, and - the screw cover 6 is supported against the shoulder 2 so as to be placed in continuity with the outer surface of the first piece of furniture A.
[0076] In the released position, the screw 7 is not housed in the through hole 9 and the screw cover is not positioned against the shoulder 2. This position classically corresponds to a position before assembly or after disassembly of a piece of furniture.
[0077] The transition of the removable fixing device from the released position to the assembled position can be done during a process of assembling the furniture assembly kit, following a step of positioning the first piece of furniture A and the second piece of furniture B so that the second end of the through hole is positioned opposite the blind hole formed in the second piece of furniture B.
[0078] Next, this method of assembling the furniture assembly kit therefore includes a step of moving the removable fastening device from the released position to the assembled position such that, in the assembled position: - the screw 7 is housed in the through hole 9, the screw body 70 being housed at the level of the passage portion 5 so that the threaded part 72 is at least partially housed and screwed into the blind hole 8, the screw head 71 being housed at the level of the countersink 4, and - the screw cover 6 is supported against the shoulder 2 so as to be placed in continuity with the outer surface of the first piece of furniture A.
[0079] In other words, the transition of the removable fixing device from the released position to the assembled position is done by screwing the screw 7 into the blind hole 8 of the second furniture element B until the screw head 71 comes into contact with the countersink 4, and then by positioning the screw cover against the shoulder.
[0080] In order for the screw cover 6, when it is in contact with the shoulder 2, to be placed in continuity with the outer surface of the first furniture element A, the depth of the bore 1 is substantially equal to the thickness of the screw cover 6.
[0081] The diameter DI of the bore 1, for its part, is very slightly larger, for example at a ratio of 1% to 15%, to the diameter D4 of the screw cover 6, so that there is no prolonged contact between the outer cylindrical surface of the screw cover 6 and the inner cylindrical surface of the bore 1, and therefore no friction which could compromise the installation or removal of the screw cover.
[0082] In the assembled position, the screw head 71 is therefore housed in the countersink. To achieve this, the head of the screw 71 has a conical shape that complements the shape of the countersink 4.
[0083] Part of the screw head, namely the top, or upper end, is also housed at the clearance 3.
[0084] This clearance 3 has a diameter D2 which is smaller, for example by a ratio of 10 to 25%, than that of the screw cover 6.
[0085] Its diameter D2 is also greater, for example by a ratio of 1 to 5%, than the maximum diameter D3 of the screw head 71.
[0086] As for the screw head 71, and according to the embodiments, its maximum diameter D3 is 10% to 40% less than the diameter D4 of the screw cover 6, preferably 15% to 25% less.
[0087] It should be noted that the diameter D2 of the clearance 3 is slightly greater than the maximum diameter D3 of the screw head, by a ratio of between 1 and 5% in order to prevent the latter, when tightening the screw, from damaging the shoulder 2.
[0088] In addition, the depth of the clearance 3 is sufficient so that the screw cover 6 and the screw head do not touch when the screw 7 is in the tightened state, i.e. that the screw cover 6 is at a distance from the screw head 71 in the assembled position when it is resting on the shoulder, regardless of the shape of the screw.
[0089] In this embodiment, the clearance depth is slightly greater than the distance between the screw cover 6 and the screw head 71, so that the screw cover and the screw head do not touch when the screw is tightened. In other words, the distance between the screw cover 6 and the screw head 71 is slightly less than the clearance depth. In this embodiment, the screw cover 6 and the screw head 71 are separated by a distance slightly less than between 0.5 mm and 3 mm.
[0090] According to an alternative embodiment, this clearance depth could substantially correspond to the distance between the screw cover and the screw head.
[0091] This space between the screw cover 6 and the screw head 71, also called the gap, allows control of the magnetic force that attracts the screw cover 6 and the screw 7, ensuring easy installation and removal of the screw cover. Thus, it guarantees the magnetic force necessary to securely hold the screw cover in its housing, while allowing for its easy removal.
[0092] Furthermore, this space prevents the screw cover from being handled by this The screw head and the end of the cover collide, and the screw cover, made of a fragile magnetic material that cannot withstand impacts, is damaged. Indeed, when the screw cover is installed, it is violently attracted to the screw. Without the shoulder that creates a gap, the screw cover would strike the screw, and the impact could damage the magnetic material of the cover.
[0093] In addition, thanks to the shoulder 2 on which the screw cover 6 rests in the assembled position, the position of the latter remains independent of that of the screw 7 to which it is magnetically attracted.
[0094] Indeed, it can be difficult to guarantee the exact position of the screw 7 when tightened, i.e., in the assembly position, particularly in wood. After several assemblies and disassemblies, such a solution allows the screw cover 6 to remain flush while the screw 7 can potentially continue to sink in slightly. This thus provides a certain tolerance for the positioning of the screw head.
[0095] Finally, such a space, or gap, facilitates the removal of the screw cover. Indeed, if the screw cover is placed against the screw, the magnetic force that binds them is considerably greater than if they are not in contact.
[0096] According to the invention, the removal of the screw cover is carried out by means of a dismantling process of a furniture assembly kit which includes at least one step of removing the screw cover 6 using a dismantling tool, and a step of unscrewing the screw 7.
[0097] According to one embodiment, the dismantling tool is a tool having at least one magnetic portion intended to orient the screw cover to put this screw cover in place during assembly, and to remove it while maintaining its integrity during dismantling.
[0098] More particularly, according to one embodiment, the disassembly tool is equipped with a magnetic material oriented such that the polarity of the face of the magnetic material opposite the screw cover in the mounted state is the opposite polarity to that of the outer face of the screw cover. Thus, the two faces in question attract each other magnetically.
[0099] This magnetic material can, for example, be a neodymium magnet.
[0100] The magnetic material that equips the disassembly tool can be coated with a a damping layer, made for example of felt or silicone, which has the function of preventing the outer face of the screw cover from coming into contact with the magnetic material that equips the disassembly tool.
[0101] During the screw cover removal step, the removal tool is pressed against the outer face of the screw cover, which is then attracted to the protective damping coating and remains pressed against it. The screw cover can then be removed without the outer face of the screw cover suffering any unwanted shocks or scratches.
[0102] Conversely, during the assembly process of the furniture assembly kit, and more Specifically, when installing the screw cover, it is placed on the removal tool. The polarity of the magnetic material on the removal tool allows the still-moving screw cover to be correctly oriented before it is placed in its housing.
[0103] In order for all the screw covers to be oriented in the same way, in particular with a view to facilitating the subsequent disassembly process, it is necessary that the same polarity be given to all the screw covers.
[0104] For example, the positive pole of the magnetic element that equips the screw cover can systematically point towards the assembly screw and consequently, the outer face of the screw cover (potentially covered with an aesthetic coating) is in this case systematically the negative pole.
[0105] The magnetic element equipping the screw cover can, for example, be a neodymium magnet, and be composed of an alloy of neodymium, iron and boron.
[0106] Such a magnetic element is preferably axially magnetized so that the poles are located on the circular surfaces of this magnetic element.
[0107] Just as the disassembly tool may have a damping layer, and according to an embodiment not illustrated, the screw cover may have a top masking layer.
[0108] Such a masking layer may, for example, include a corrosion protection layer to protect the screw cover, or even the screw itself, from the effects of weathering. It may also include a colored or textured layer to make the screw cover more visible or to conceal it by imitating or matching the material of the furniture elements.
[0109] Such a top masking layer can also serve as an indexing element, in particular for identifying the magnetic poles of the screw cover. It should be noted that, in the assembled position, said top masking layer is continuous with the outer surface of the first furniture element A, so that the removable fastening device according to this embodiment offers the same advantages.
