Description

Title of the invention: Visual reproduction of a flame without combustion Technical field of the invention

[0001] The invention relates to the field of visual reproduction of a flame without combustion.

[0002] In particular, the invention relates to a device for the visual reproduction of a flame without combustion, as well as a method for the visual reproduction of a flame without combustion, implementing such a device. State of the prior art

[0003] The use of flames for decorative applications (interior or exterior decoration, town planning) and / or festive applications (festive events, special effects) is a common and widespread practice.

[0004] A conventional flame, or true flame, results from a combustion reaction involving a fuel and an oxidant, typically oxygen. These “natural” flames present risks of burns linked to high combustion temperatures, risks of fire linked to the uncontrolled propagation of the flame, as well as defects possibly linked to the gases produced by combustion, which can be asphyxiating (such as carbon monoxide in the event of incomplete combustion) and / or have a negative ecological effect (carbon dioxide for example).

[0005] One solution implemented for example for domestic stoves and fireplaces is to project a light flux onto a moving diffusing medium to reproduce a visual flame effect. The diffusing medium is for example made up of an aerosol of water droplets generated by an ultrasonic diffuser and lifted by a flow of hot air, or of a set of reflective particles lifted by such an air flow. The light flux can for example be provided by a set of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). A flameless heating system is generally associated with the fireplace or stove, operating independently.

[0006] Such systems make it possible to avoid the combustion reaction and give a pleasant visual rendering, thus avoiding the release of undesirable combustion products.

[0007] However, these systems have a number of limitations which restrict their possibilities of use.

[0008] In particular, these devices are not portable, and are intended to operate in indoor environments, with low ambient light and in the absence of wind and with a mains power supply. In addition, the visual appearance of flame is only rendered for a limited viewing direction, and the device cannot reproduce a flame when viewed from all directions. Presentation of the invention

[0009] The invention aims to remedy these drawbacks, by allowing the visual reproduction of a flame in a portable or static manner, for all directions of observation, in variable light and wind conditions for use indoors and outdoors.

[0010] To this end, the invention relates to a device for the visual reproduction of a flame without combustion, said device comprising:

[0011] - a pressurization chamber comprising at least one main outlet blocking the outside of the device,

[0012] - a spray assembly comprising at least one liquid reservoir and at least one at least one spray system, adapted to generate a suspension of liquid in the pressurization chamber,

[0013] - a pressurization assembly, comprising a turbine adapted to generate a air flow in the pressurization chamber,

[0014] - a lateral ventilation assembly, adapted to generate a lateral air flow at through a plurality of side outlets, the side outlets opening outside the device around or in the vicinity of each main outlet,

[0015] - an illumination assembly arranged in the vicinity of each main exit and adapted to illuminate the suspension flowing through each main outlet,

[0016] - a control assembly, configured to drive the spray assembly, the pressurization assembly, the side ventilation assembly and the illumination assembly, the control assembly comprising at least one processor and a memory or an analog circuit.

[0017] Such a device makes it possible to reproduce a flame faithfully and does not present the dangers of a real flame or the risks of extinction. The mist expelled through the main outlet(s) acts as a diffuser for the light generated by the illumination device, reproducing a flame of controlled size and appearance. The device is portable and operates in any type of environment, particularly outdoors, thanks to the lateral airflow which protects the false flame from the wind. This lateral airflow also improves the visual rendering of the flame by creating a convective visual effect.

[0018] The spraying system comprises for example at least one spray nozzle.

[0019] The device may comprise at least one sensor configured to detect the presence in the vicinity of at least one of the main outlets of a real flame or of a second device for visually reproducing a flame without combustion, the control assembly being configured to trigger the reproduction of a flame following such detection.

[0020] Such a feature makes it possible to reproduce outdoors the lighting of a torch or a torch with a real or simulated flame.

[0021] The sensor is for example an infrared sensor, capable of detecting radiation having a characteristic wavelength, caused by a real flame nearby.

[0022] Alternatively, the sensor may be a wireless communication device, for example of the “Bluetooth” type, configured to operate as a transmitter and receiver and capable of detecting the proximity of a second device for visual reproduction of a flame without combustion.

[0023] The device may comprise:

[0024] - a turbine chamber, in which the turbine of the press assembly is arranged superization, the turbine chamber being separated from the pressurization chamber,

[0025] - a pressurization duct opening into the turbine chamber opposite the turbine, and opening into the pressurization chamber by an end bent in a direction forming with an axis an angle of between 60° and 180°.

[0026] The axis is in particular a main axis of the device, for example parallel to an axis of rotation of the turbine.

[0027] Such a device allows the suspension to be pressurized before its exit, the elbow reducing the risks of dissipation of the droplets and reducing the speed of the air flow from the turbine.

[0028] The side outlets may be regularly distributed over a perimeter extending around or in the vicinity of the main outlet(s). Said perimeter is for example circular, rectangular elliptical, hexagonal or other.

[0029] Such a feature allows effective protection of the false flame and creates a convective visual effect improving realism.

[0030] The side ventilation assembly may be configured to generate the side airflow substantially uniformly between the different side outlets, said side airflow flowing through the side outlets with a speed greater than or equal to 3 meters per second.

[0031] Such a feature makes it possible to protect the suspension against wind disturbances thanks to the high speed of the lateral flow.

[0032] The illumination assembly may comprise:

[0033] - a main light source, adapted to emit a light intensity high and continuous, arranged centrally relative to the main exits, and

[0034] - a plurality of secondary light sources, adapted to emit a lower and intermittent light intensity, arranged around the main light source.

[0035] The secondary light sources are, for example, distributed over a perimeter extending around the main light source. Said perimeter is, for example, circular, elliptical, rectangular, hexagonal, or other.

[0036] Such a feature makes it possible to improve the fidelity of the reproduction of the flame by adding a crackling effect thanks to the secondary light sources.

[0037] A production rate of the suspension by the spray assembly may be substantially constant during operation, and a rotational speed of the turbine of the pressurization assembly may be variable during operation.

[0038] Such a feature makes it possible to improve the realism of the false flame by approaching a variable dynamic of a real flame.

[0039] The device may comprise means for modifying a flow section of the main outlet(s) and / or for modifying a flow direction through the main outlet(s).

[0040] Such a feature allows the shape, height and external appearance of the flame to be varied to reproduce different types of flame, for example, a torch-type flame or a blowtorch or storm lighter-type flame.

[0041] The device may comprise at least one anemometer, adapted to measure a speed and an orientation of the wind outside the device, and means for tilting the main light source and / or the or each main outlet and / or the side outlets, the control assembly being configured to control the tilting means so as to modify an orientation of the main source and / or the or each main outlet and / or the side outlets as a function of the speed and the orientation of the wind.

[0042] Such a characteristic makes it possible to reproduce the variations of a real flame under the effect of the outside wind and to limit the excessive inclination of the false flame by the wind.

[0043] The invention also relates to a method for visually reproducing a flame without combustion using a device as above, the method being controlled by the control assembly and comprising the following steps:

[0044] - generation of a liquid suspension in the pressurization chamber by the spray assembly,

[0045] - generation of an air flow in the pressurization chamber by the pressurization assembly surization and flow of the suspension through the or each main outlet,

[0046] - generation of a lateral airflow through the plurality of lateral outlets by the side ventilation assembly, and

[0047] - illumination of the suspension flowing through each main outlet by the illumination set. Brief description of the figures

[0054] A device 10 for visually reproducing a flame without combustion is shown in schematic section in [Fig. 1] and in top view in [Fig. 2].

[0055] This device 10 is intended to generate a false flame having a visual appearance very close to a real flame without implementing a combustion reaction and without using fuel. For this, the device 10 generates a suspension of liquid and illuminates said suspension so as to reproduce the appearance of a real flame.

[0056] The device 10 comprises a housing 12 defining an internal space containing a plurality of systems and isolating said systems from the outside.

[0057] The housing 12 has an elongated shape and is advantageously symmetrical in rotation around a central axis A. The housing 12 is for example substantially cylindrical.

[0058] This shape of the housing 12 allows it to be grasped and handled, in particular with one hand.

[0059] The housing 12 may alternatively have a symmetry with respect to a central plane A, giving it a substantially rectangular shape, and giving it more stability if said device 10 is placed on a substantially flat surface.

[0060] The systems contained in the housing 12 include a pressurization chamber 14, a spray assembly 16, a pressurization assembly 18, a side ventilation assembly 20, an illumination assembly 22 and a control assembly and 24 power supply.

[0061] The pressurization chamber 14 is a substantially cylindrical chamber, into which an outlet conduit 26 opens, comprising at least one main outlet 28 opening outside the device 10.

[0062] In the example shown, the outlet duct 26 is a substantially cylindrical annular duct slightly flared in the direction of the main outlet 28.

[0063] The main outlet 28 is an annular opening opening in a substantially cylindrical plane radially surrounding the main axis A, and oriented radially inwards, i.e. towards the main axis A, as shown in [Fig.2].

[0064] The shape of the annular opening may alternatively be substantially elliptical or rectangular.

[0065] Alternatively, the outlet duct 26 may comprise a plurality of main outlets 28 regularly distributed circumferentially around the main axis A.

[0066] The spray assembly 16 is adapted to generate a suspension of liquid in the pressurization chamber 14.

[0067] The spray assembly 16 comprises at least one liquid reservoir 30, a pump 32 and at least one spray system 34, comprising for example at least one spray nozzle or a vibrating membrane.

[0068] The reservoir 30 is for example isolated from the pressurization chamber 14 and connected to the pump 32 by a fluid supply conduit 38.

[0069] The reservoir 30 contains a liquid intended to form a suspension in the air, in a quantity sufficient to supply the spray assembly for a predetermined minimum duration. Said duration is for example greater than or equal to 30 minutes and the quantity of liquid stored is for example greater than or equal to 80 milliliters.

[0070] The liquid contained in the reservoir 30 is, for example, water.

[0071] According to a variant, the liquid further contains at least one coloring agent, for example For example, a pigment visible in daylight or made visible by another type of lighting, for example, fluorescein, which makes water fluorescent when exposed to ultraviolet radiation. This allows the color of the suspension to vary and gives particular visual effects to the false flame, improving its visibility.

[0072] According to another variant, the liquid may comprise at least one compound modifying its rheological properties, for example glycerin, which produces a suspension which is visually thicker, lighter and which dissipates less quickly.

[0073] The pump 32 is adapted to draw the liquid contained in the reservoir 30 through the supply conduit 38, with a controlled flow rate, and to send the drawn liquid to the spray system 34.

[0074] The spray system 34 is contained in the pressurization chamber 14 and powered by the pump 32, to generate a suspension of the liquid in the air in the pressurization chamber 14.

[0075] Advantageously, the device 10 comprises a plurality of such spraying systems 34, for example three spraying nozzles 34, although only one is shown for the sake of simplicity.

[0076] The pressurization assembly 18 comprises a turbine 40, arranged in a turbine chamber 42 adjacent to the pressurization chamber 14.

[0077] The turbine 40 is set in rotational motion, for example around the main axis A, by an electric motor (not shown), in order to generate an air flow intended to pressurize the suspension in the pressurization chamber 14.

[0078] At least one lateral air intake 47 opens in the walls of the turbine chamber 42, in order to allow the necessary air inlet.

[0079] The turbine chamber 42 is separated from the pressurization chamber by a partition 44, crossed by a conduit 46 for supplying the air flow generated by the turbine 40 into the pressurization chamber 14.

[0080] The conduit 46 opens into the turbine chamber 42, in the partition 44 located opposite the turbine 40, and opens into the pressurization chamber 14 via a bent end 48 in a direction forming with the main axis A, an angle of between 60° and 180°.

[0081] Said angle is equal to 180° in [Fig.l], that is to say that the air flow at the outlet at the bent end 48 flows parallel to the main axis A, in a direction opposite to the direction going from the turbine 40 to the main outlets 28.

[0082] This arrangement of the conduit 46 makes it possible to put the suspension present in the pressurization chamber 14 under overpressure and to expel it through the main outlet(s) 28, without generating a direct air current which could cause evaporation of the droplets into the air and dissipate the suspension.

[0083] The air flow has, for example, a speed at the outlet of the conduit 46 of around 2.5 meters per second.

[0084] The lateral ventilation assembly 20 is adapted to generate a lateral air flow through a plurality of lateral outlets 50 opening outside the device 10 around the main outlet(s) 28.

[0085] The lateral ventilation assembly 20 may comprise up to fifty such lateral outlets 50 distributed around the main outlet(s) 28, as shown in [Fig.2].

[0086] The lateral ventilation assembly 20 comprises a second turbine 52, arranged in a lateral ventilation chamber 54 and rotating around, for example, the axis main A, suitable for generating the lateral air flow.

[0087] The side outlets 50 are arranged on a closed perimeter surrounding the main outlet(s) 28, for example on a circle.

[0088] The lateral airflow flowing through the side outlets 50 radially surrounds the airflow flowing through the main outlet 28 and thus radially protects the suspension from the outside. The lateral airflow further gives the false flame a convection movement improving the realism of the representation.

[0089] The lateral air flow therefore flows substantially uniformly between the different lateral outlets 50, said lateral air flow flowing through the lateral outlets 50 with a speed of between 0.1 and 10 meters per second and in particular greater than or equal to 3 meters per second. The rotation speed of the second turbine 52 is configured to obtain such a speed at the outlet, depending on the dimensions of the lateral outlets 50.

[0090] Such a speed of the lateral flow makes it possible to protect the false flame from wind disturbances with a speed greater than 20 kilometers per hour and which can reach, for example, 50 kilometers per hour.

[0091] An outlet angle of the air flow, formed by the lateral air flow at the level of the lateral outlets 50 relative to the axis A, is for example between 0 and 45 degrees, and advantageously close to 10 degrees for effective protection without excessively lowering the suspension.

[0092] Such a lateral air flow makes it possible to dispense with the air heating implemented in the devices of the prior art, which reduces the weight of the device 10 and improves its portability in the absence of an uncomfortable and potentially dangerous heat source to handle, while improving the energy balance of the device 10.

[0093] The illumination assembly 22 is arranged in the vicinity of each main outlet 28 and is adapted to illuminate the suspension flowing through each main outlet 28 and give a visual appearance of flame to the suspension.

[0094] The illumination assembly 22 comprises a main light source 56 and a plurality of secondary light sources 58, shown in Figures 1 and 2.

[0095] The illumination assembly has a total luminous power for example equal to 10,000 lumens, with an overall dispersion angle of around 80 degrees.

[0096] The main light source 56 is arranged centrally relative to the main outputs 28, for example on the main axis A. It is adapted to emit a high light intensity (for example between 1000 and 5000 lumens) and continuous, with slow variations in intensity and / or color (for example between 3 and 30% of the average value). The main source is for example a light-emitting diode and has for example a color in shades of yellow. or orange.

[0097] The secondary light sources 58 are arranged in the vicinity of the main light source 56, for example around and in a circle, and adapted to emit a lower light intensity (for example between 20 and 500 lumens) and intermittently, thus reproducing a visual effect of crackling of the false flame.

[0098] These secondary sources are, for example, light-emitting diodes which have, for example, colors in shades of red.

[0099] An average difference between two neighboring secondary light sources is, for example, of the order of 0.5 to 3 centimeters.

[0100] The illumination assembly comprises, for example, between ten and fifteen secondary light sources 58.

[0101] These secondary sources are controlled to turn on and off following a random and low time interval algorithm (between 20 and 100 milliseconds).

[0102] An example of such an algorithm is presented below, with reference to [Fig.4], which graphically represents the variations of a light intensity Io provided by one of the secondary light sources 58 over time t.

[0103] A first step comprises a random determination of a number of secondary light sources whose light intensity will be modified, chosen randomly in an interval ranging from a single source to 0.8*N, where N is the total number of secondary sources 58.

[0104] A second step comprises a random selection of the secondary sources whose intensity is modified, from among all the secondary light sources, for the number of sources determined in the previous step.

[0105] Then, for each secondary source chosen, the algorithm comprises a random calculation of a lower light intensity limit bu, for example chosen between 4% and 15% of a maximum intensity of the light source, and of an upper intensity limit bs, for example chosen between 60% and 100% of the maximum intensity of the source. The algorithm then comprises a random determination of a setpoint light intensity I requested from the secondary source between these two limits bu and bs and the updating of the secondary source to the determined setpoint light intensity value I.

[0106] Finally, the algorithm includes a step of random calculation of a waiting time A before restarting this process, in an interval included, for example, between 20 and 100 milliseconds.

[0107] The intensity limits are chosen according to the characteristics of the secondary light source, to have a clearly perceptible luminescence difference between the upper limit b; and the lower limit bu, which is permitted by the values above. Indeed, the light intensity provided by a light-emitting diode does not vary linearly with the electrical power supplied.

[0108] The control assembly 24 comprises at least one processor PROC capable of executing digital calculations and computer programs, and a memory MEM configured to store data, in particular instructions allowing, when they are read, the implementation of computer programs by the processor PROC.

[0109] Alternatively, the control assembly 24 may be partially or entirely of an analog nature.

[0110] The control assembly 24 is configured to control the spray assembly 16, the pressurization assembly 18, the lateral ventilation assembly 20 and the illumination assembly 22, in particular by controlling the rotation speeds of the turbine 40 and of the second turbine 52, the flow rate of the pump 32 and therefore the flow rate of generation of the suspension, as well as by switching the primary 56 and secondary 58 light sources and by adapting their intensity and / or their color.

[0111] Advantageously, the control assembly is configured to maintain a flow rate of production of the suspension by the spray assembly 16 substantially constant during operation of the device 10, while a rotational speed of the turbine 40 may be variable during operation of the device 10. For example, the turbine 40 may be stopped or slowed down for a short time interval, for example randomly determined between 100 milliseconds and 5 seconds, allowing the suspension to accumulate in the pressurization chamber 14. The accumulated suspension is then expelled suddenly when the turbine 40 is restarted. This makes it possible to add dynamics to the false flame, and to have fireball effects.

[0112] This stopping or slowing down of the turbine 40 is for example repeated with a variable time interval, for example determined randomly between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.

[0113] According to a variant, the stopping time interval of the turbine 40 depends linearly on the time interval elapsed since the previous stoppage.

[0114] The control assembly 24 is electrically connected to at least one battery BAT or a continuous power supply having an adequate voltage, suitable for supplying electrical energy to the device 10.

[0115] The electrical connections connecting the control assembly 24 to the various systems for their control and their electrical supply are not shown in the figures for the sake of clarity.

[0116] The device 10 advantageously comprises at least one sensor 60 configured to detect the presence in the vicinity of at least one of the main outputs 28 or secondary devices 50 of a real flame or of a second device for visual reproduction of a flame without combustion identical to the device 10. Said sensor 60 is connected to the control assembly 24 for its control.

[0117] The sensor 60 is for example an infrared sensor, capable of detecting radiation in a predetermined wavelength band, emitted by a real flame nearby.

[0118] Alternatively, the sensor 60 may be a wireless communication device, for example of the “Bluetooth” type, configured to operate as a transmitter and receiver and capable of detecting the proximity of a second device for visual reproduction of a flame without combustion by communicating with its wireless communication device.

[0119] Alternatively, the sensor 60 may comprise both at least one such infrared sensor and at least one such wireless communication device.

[0120] The control assembly 24 is then configured to trigger the reproduction of a flame by the device 10 following such detection by the sensor 60, to simulate the lighting of a torch by another flame, for example.

[0121] Ignition by the neighboring device can be triggered, for example, from a threshold distance, for example 2 centimeters.

[0122] In addition, to secure the ignition protocol, a button located at the base of the device 10 allows it to be switched off or on manually.

[0123] Advantageously, the device 10 comprises means 70 for modifying a flow section of the main outlet(s) 28 and consequently for modifying a flow orientation through the main outlet(s) 28, as shown in [Fig.3].

[0124] These means 70 comprise for example a cylindrical crown 72 extending radially inside the main outlets 28, so as to regulate the fluid section crossed by the air flow carrying the suspension. A servomotor 74 actuates a rack and pinion system 76, arranged to raise or lower the crown 72 in translation in the direction of the main axis A, obscuring a greater or lesser part of the main outlets 28. The modification of this section also modifies the flow angle of the air flow carrying the suspension through the main outlets 28, and thus modifies the shape of the suspension plume and therefore of the false flame.

[0125] According to a variant shown in [Fig.5], the device 10 can advantageously comprise at least one anemometer 80, adapted to measure a speed and an orientation of the wind outside the device 10, and means 82 for tilting the main light source 56 and / or the or each main outlet 28 and / or the lateral outlets 50.

[0126] The anemometer 80 is for example an ultrasonic anemometer comprising a transmitter 84 located under the main light source, and four receivers 86 distributed around the periphery of the device 10. The wind speed measurement is thus two-dimensional.

[0127] The tilting means 82 comprise, for example, two servomotors 88 making it possible to tilt the illumination assembly 22 as well as the ends of the circulation ducts of the air flow carrying the suspension and of the lateral air flow, at least one part of which is made flexible in this variant, to allow tilting.

[0128] The control assembly 24 is in this case configured to control said tilting means 82 so as to modify an orientation of the main light source 56 and / or of the or each main outlet 28 and / or of the lateral outlets 50 as a function of the speed and orientation of the wind, to limit the tilting of the false flame by the wind and to reproduce the behavior of a flame under the effect of the wind.

[0129] The assembly is then inclined by an angle ❖i, formed between the main axis A and the normal to the lighting surface of the main light source 56. The angle ❖i can for example vary in both directions between -70° and 70°, for example linearly as a function of the wind speed measured by the anemometer 80.

[0130] According to a variant shown in [Fig.6], the device 10 comprises a peripheral wall 90 extending around the false flame, in particular to protect it from the wind and / or projectiles.

[0131] The peripheral wall 90 is for example substantially cylindrical, centered on the main axis A, and extends along an external edge 92 of the lateral ventilation assembly 20.

[0132] The peripheral wall 90 is advantageously made of transparent material, for example glass or plastic.

[0133] The peripheral wall 90 has a height e, measured in the direction of the main axis A, for example between 0.5 cm and 20 cm.

[0134] The peripheral wall may have a plurality of through orifices, having diameters of for example between 1 mm and 5 mm, distributed around the periphery of the device 10. These orifices allow the circulation of air and prevent the accumulation of droplets on the peripheral wall 90, particularly when said peripheral wall 90 has a significant height e.
