Description

Title of the invention: Controlled air intake for a motor vehicle

[0001] The invention relates to low speed forward collision for a motor vehicle. The invention relates more specifically to a regulation device for controlled air intake of a motor vehicle which is exposed to the possibility of a front impact. The invention also relates to a motor vehicle with a regulation device.

[0002] To increase its autonomy, an electrically driven motor vehicle is commonly equipped with active equipment aimed at improving its aerodynamics. Controlled air intakes, located as close as possible to the outer skin of the front bumpers, are one of the most widespread. Most of the time, these controlled air intakes are in the form of cassettes comprising an outer frame, pivoting flaps in the outer frame, and an actuator controlling the orientation of the pivoting flaps.

[0003] During a repairable impact at a maximum speed of 15 km / h, the bumper and beam compress to absorb the energy of the impact. One of the objectives is to protect the most expensive components in order to limit repair costs. In particular, the cooling panel must be preserved first. Beyond the cost of this component, its damage causes a leak in the cooling circuit which quickly requires the vehicle to be stopped.

[0004] The disadvantage of controlled air intake cassettes is that the thickness of its frame, often added to that of the air intake grille on the bumper in the event of a collision, will materialize an incompressible stack. However, this stack is thicker than the beam and the absorber above. Therefore, it is likely to damage the cooling equipment when it comes to bear on it at the end of its travel; that is to say at the end of the impact. The incompressible nature of the stack is particularly considered at a speed of at most 15 km / h.

[0005] Document EP3174748B1 presents an air guide for the front of a vehicle and having the function of directing the incoming air towards a cooling system. Due to the significant thickness of the guide, zones of mechanical weakness have been created therein so as not to damage the cooling equipment during a low-speed collision. Indeed, these zones characterized by a step and a reduction in thickness are intended to break under the effect of the impact and allow the different parts of the guide to fit together. This makes it possible to limit the forces transmitted to the cooling system and to protect it.

[0006] However, this solution does not allow sufficient control of the possibility of a collision and the resulting breakage. Indeed, certain parts of the system are sus likely to reach the cooling system once detached from each other. In particular, one or more front parts may hit an exchanger in their path. From the start of the impact, the rearmost part comes to bear against this same exchanger.

[0007] The invention aims to address at least one of the problems or drawbacks encountered in the prior art. In particular, the invention aims to propose improving the control of a breakable regulation device in the event of a front impact of a motor vehicle. The invention also aims to optimize the protection of a heat exchanger, the control of the breakage of a regulation device, the repair costs, the mass of a motor vehicle.

[0038] The invention will be well understood and other aspects and advantages will appear clearly on reading the description which follows, given with reference to the figures appended and listed below.

[0040] [Fig.2] shows a front portion of a motor vehicle according to the invention.

[0041] [Fig. 3] represents a motor vehicle regulation device according to the invention.

[0042] [Fig.4] shows a motor vehicle regulation device frame according to the invention.

[0043] [Fig. 5] is a section of a motor vehicle regulation device frame according to the invention.

[0044] [Fig. 6] is an enlargement of a rupture zone of a motor vehicle control device according to the invention.

[0045] In the following description, the term "comprise" is synonymous with "include" and is not limiting in that it allows the presence of other elements in the motor vehicle or the control device to which it relates. It is understood that the term "comprise" includes the terms "consist of". The terms "external" and "internal" will designate respectively that which is oriented towards the outside of the vehicle and towards the inside of the vehicle.

[0046] In the present description, the term “longitudinal”, the term “longitudinally”, the term “transverse”, and the term “transversely” are used according to the re vehicle's direction of travel, in the mounting configuration. The term "longitudinal" refers to the vehicle's primary direction of travel. The term "transverse" refers to a direction perpendicular to the vehicle's primary direction of travel. The term "front" refers to the vehicle's primary direction of travel. The term "rear" refers to the opposite of the front of the vehicle.

[0047] The X axis represents the longitudinal direction, the Y axis represents the transverse direction, and the Z axis represents the vertical direction of the motor vehicle. These three axes define a direct trihedron whose orientation is preserved throughout the figures.

[0048] In the present description, the ranges of values include the limits which delimit them.

[0049] In this description, the technical characteristics are defined in the mounting configuration of the regulation device, unless explicitly mentioned otherwise.

[0050] Throughout the description, the different figures use the same reference signs to designate identical or similar entities.

[0051] [Fig.l] represents a motor vehicle 10 according to the invention. The motor vehicle 10 comprises energy storage means and at least one motor (not shown) adapted to drive said motor vehicle 10.

[0052] The motor vehicle 10 comprises a structure 12. The structure 12 forms an outer body, or even a main frame of the motor vehicle. The structure 12 delimits different compartments of the motor vehicle 10, including the passenger compartment, the cargo compartment, the engine compartment (not shown). The structure 12 may be formed from an assembly of stamped sheets welded to each other.

[0053] The structure 12 connects different parts of the motor vehicle 10 including the openings. The structure 12 forms a mounting support for the powertrain, the suspension systems, the steering system, the braking systems. In the front part, the structure 12 comprises at least one crossmember, preferably two crossmembers (not shown). The crossmembers are also referred to as beams.

[0054] These crosspieces comprise an upper crosspiece 14 and a lower crosspiece 16. The upper crosspiece is equipped with a shock absorber 18. This shock absorber 18 is capable of absorbing the energy of an impact in the event of a pedestrian impact and / or an impact at low speed. By low speed, we mean a speed of at most 15 km / h. In the event of a pedestrian impact against a leg, it limits possible injuries. The shock absorber 18 comprises a foam block, or an air pocket.

[0055] The motor vehicle 10 further comprises a regulating device 20 between an air inlet 22 and a cooling facade 24. The regulating device 20 forms a flow control passage between the air inlet 22 in front of the motor vehicle and the cooling facade 24. The air inlet 22 generally has a grille. The regulating device 20 forms a controlled air inlet module. The air inlet 22 is advantageously a central inlet. It communicates with the environment of the motor vehicle 10. The cooling facade 24 contributes to the cooling of the vehicle passenger compartment, and optionally to the cooling of a heat engine.

[0056] The regulating device 20 is arranged vertically between the upper cross member 14 and the lower cross member 16. It is under the shock absorber 18, and longitudinally set back from the latter. In the event of a front impact, the shock absorber 18 is thus impacted before the regulating device 20, which limits the hard points. Reducing the longitudinal thickness of the regulating device 20 makes it possible to reduce that of the shock absorber 18; and thereby a reduction in the front overhang of the motor vehicle 10. Likewise, this contributes to a reduction in weight.

[0057] The motor vehicle may, for example, be a private motor vehicle or a utility motor vehicle.

[0058] [Fig. 2] shows a front portion of the motor vehicle. The motor vehicle may correspond to that shown in relation to [Fig. 1]. This portion illustrates the cooling facade 24, and the regulating device 20 interposed between the upper cross member 14 and the lower cross member 16.

[0059] The cooling facade 24 comprises an air conveyor 28 distributing the air flow controlled by the regulation device 20 to at least one heat exchanger (not shown). The upper cross member 14 and the lower cross member 16 generally form profiles. They are generally horizontal, and substantially arched. They can be fixed to front side members (not shown) of the structure.

[0060] The regulation device 20 comprises at least one frame 30. Each frame 30 forms a sleeve delimiting a longitudinal air passage fluidly connected to the cooling facade 24. In the present example, each frame 30 is generally square. However, it can have any other contour shape. In the present embodiment, the regulation device 20 comprises two frames 30; including a left frame and a right frame. They are generally symmetrical. These frames are transversely spaced lateral frames. In the remainder of the description, the focus will be on one of the frames 30, and in particular one of the halves of the regulation device 20. However, the following description applies to each frame, and in particular each half of the regulation device 20.

[0061] The regulating device 20 further comprises pivoting blades 32, pivotally mounted in the regulating device 20. In the present embodiment, the pivoting blades 32 are divided into two sets, each associated with one of the side frames. The pivoting blades 32 are movable between an open position and a closed position; in order to allow or block the passage of an air flow. The pivoting blades 32 also occupy a plurality of intermediate positions in order to modulate the air flow relative to the fully open position.

[0062] The regulation device 20 further comprises rotational coupling means 34 of the pivoting blades 32. The rotational coupling means 34 comprise gear cascades or a control rod connected to connecting rods associated with the pivoting blades 32. An actuator 36, for example an electric motor or a hydraulic cylinder, moves the rotational coupling means 34 in order to adjust the orientation of the pivoting blades 32 according to a regulation setpoint.

[0063] [Fig. 3] shows a regulating device 20 for a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle may correspond to that shown in relation to one of Figures 1 to 2. The regulating device 20 rests on a support, in this case the upper cross member 14 and the lower cross member 16.

[0064] The rotational coupling means 34 and the actuator 36 are in the central position. The left pivoting blades 32 are in the closed position, while the right pivoting blades 32 are in the open position. The frame 30 comprises at least two rows of pivoting blade mounting holes 38 (not shown). The rows are vertical and parallel.

[0065] The frame 30 comprises a front section 40 in communication with the air inlet (not shown), followed by a rear section 42 intended to be arranged towards a heat exchanger of the cooling facade. The sections form coaxial rings. The frame 30 further comprises a rupture zone 44. The rupture zone 44, or breakable zone, is formed between the front section 40 and the rear section 42. The rupture zone 44 forms a separation line, along which the front section 40 separates from the rear section 42 in the event of a front impact. The rupture zone 44 forms a rupture loop which surrounds the pivoting blades 32, in particular each set of pivoting blades 32.

[0066] The frame 30 is configured so that in the event of a front impact the rupture zone 44 is cut. Therefore, it allows longitudinal sliding of the front section 40 relative to the rear section 42. Since the front section 40 is narrower than the rear section 42, it fits inside. The frame 30 becomes telescopic.

[0067] The rear section 42 comprises at least one stop tab 46. The or at least one or each stop tab 46 bears longitudinally against a support, in this case the upper cross member 14 or the lower cross member 16. The actuator 36 is arranged longitudinally at the level of the at least one stop tab 46 in order to improve compactness. In this case, the frame 30 comprises four stop tabs 46. Each stop tab 46 comprises a rear surface in contact with the support, therefore a front surface of the crosspiece.

[0068] By this means, the rear section 42 is held in a longitudinal position against the upper cross member 14 and the lower cross member 16 following a rupture of the rupture zone 44 caused by a front impact. The front impact is in particular of the pedestrian impact type, and / or an impact at no more than 15 km / h against a fixed obstacle. The presence of the stop tabs 46 makes it possible to control the position of the rear section 42, and to prevent it from coming into contact with the heat exchangers.

[0069] As a corollary, the need for protection via the thicknesses of the upper cross member 14 and the lower cross member 16 decreases. The same applies to the thickness of the shock absorber (not shown). The invention makes it possible to reduce and optimize the front overhang of the vehicle. The mass decreases. It is simple to implement, and the development of the fusibility force is done by adjusting the thickness of the material constriction of the rupture zone 44; for example in the middle of the bent zone. This type of solution makes it possible to combine performance and repairability, with gains in performance and cost.

[0070] [Fig.4] shows a frame 30 of a vehicle regulation device 20 at The motor vehicle may correspond to that shown in relation to one of Figures 1 to 3. The pivoting blades, the actuator and the rotational coupling means are not shown for the sake of clarity.

[0071] The frame 30 comprises a front section 40 upstream, towards the bumper skin; and a rear section 42 longitudinally opposite the front section 40. The rear section 42 is larger than the front section 40 in order to receive it when the rupture zone 44 yields in response to a front impact; of the pedestrian impact type and / or in a low-speed impact against a fixed obstacle. The pedestrian impact can be up to 50 km / h. Said low-speed impact is heard up to 15 km / h. Thus, the regulation device 20 responds to different types of impacts.

[0072] The rear section 42 is enlarged by at least one stop tab 46, intended to provide indexing in longitudinal position against a support (not shown), such as the cross members. Thus, the rear section 42 remains in position against the support following the front impact. The rear section 42 does not slide backwards. Its longitudinal position relative to the cooling facade, and in particular any heat exchanger, remains fixed. It does not become stiff in the event of a predefined impact.

[0073] The rear section 42 comprises a front edge 48. The front edge 48 is in particular at the interface with the front section 40. The front edge 48 is flush with the rupture zone 44. At least one or each stop tab 46 is at the level of said front edge 48, or is flush with the front edge 48. The invention brings each stop tab 46 closer to the rupture zone 44. In the event of an impact, the frame 30 deforms by compressing. The presence of stop tabs 46 at this location form temporary hard points, and therefore a concentration of stresses punctuated over time; which promotes rupture. From then on, the rupture event is better controlled. It occurs at the start of the impact, which improves the control of the kinematics of the front section 40.

[0074] The front section 40 comprises stop means 50 capable of blocking the longitudinal sliding of the front section 40 relative to the rear section 42 following the rupture of the rupture zone 44. The stop means 50 comprise a step shape. The stop means 50 have a variation in section capable of cooperating with the rear section 42, in particular the front edge 48. Thus, in the event of an impact and following the rupture of the rupture zone 44, the maximum recoil of the front section 40 is blocked relative to the support by means of the rear section 42.

[0075] The front section 40 comprises a fixing lug 52 with fixing means 54. In this case, each frame 30 has two fixing lugs 52; one above, the other below. The fixing lugs 52 extend vertically. They can be fixed to the air inlet. At least one or each stop lug 46 is thicker than the or each fixing lug 52. Thus, the stop lugs 46 are more rigid than the fixing lugs 52. This improves the retention of the rear section 42, and promotes rupture at the rupture zone 44.

[0076] The front section 40 comprises a frontal plane 56. The frontal plane 56 is a geometric plane. It is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction; therefore to the X axis. The or each stop tab 46 is parallel to said frontal plane 56. The parallelism may be along the vertical direction represented by the Z axis. The parallelism should not be understood in the strict sense. Indeed, each stop tab 46 is inclined by at most 10°, preferably by at most 5° relative to the frontal plane 56.

[0077] The front section 40 comprises a fixing rim 58 extending perpendicularly to a longitudinal direction. The fixing rim 58 is a front rim, it allows fixing to the contour of an air inlet. The fixing rim 58 may comprise fixing eyelets.

[0078] According to one option of the invention, the frame comprises at least one intermediate section, preferably several intermediate sections; between the front section and the rear section. Depending on the case, each intermediate section is folded to another intermediate section, to the front section, to the rear section; by two rupture zones.

[0079] [Fig. 5] shows a section of a frame 30 of a motor vehicle regulation device 20. The motor vehicle corresponds to that presented in relation to one of Figures 1 to 4.

[0080] The rear section 42 comprises a front half 60. The front half 60 starts at the rupture zone 44, and extends rearwardly. The at least one stop tab 46 is arranged longitudinally in said front half 60. This presence of the stop tab 46 in the front half 60 stiffens it, and increases the peak stress there during the impact. The rupture is better localized. The behavior of the frame 30 respects better repeatability in the event of a front impact.

[0081] The rear section 42 comprises a rear rim 62. The rear rim 62 surrounds the frame 30, and the associated pivoting blades. The rear rim 62 is longitudinally opposite the front edge 48. It forms a sealing belt, and / or a stiffening flange. The rear rim 62 is intended to cooperate with the cooling facade (not shown). The rear rim 62 extends perpendicular to a longitudinal direction 64. The longitudinal direction 64 crosses the frame 30 horizontally. The rear rim 62 is arranged longitudinally behind each stop tab 46. The rear rim 62 is longitudinally at a distance from the stop tab 46, which promotes the stress peak at the rupture zone 44. In the event of a front impact, the front section 40 returns, becomes embedded; in the rear section 42.

[0082] Each stop tab 46 has a constant thickness. Each stop tab 46 is solid. Each stop tab 46 forms a plate. It extends vertically. The stop means 50 are vertically at the height of the rear section 42. In the event of sliding backwards, the front section 40 ends its translation against the rear section 42 thanks to the stop means 50 which come into abutment. The longitudinal distance between the stop means 50 and the rupture zone 44 is greater than or equal to: 10 mm, preferably greater than or equal to 30 mm.

[0083] The rear section 42 comprises an airflow duct wall 66. The duct wall 66 extends longitudinally. The duct wall 66 forms a sleeve. It surrounds a longitudinal passage inside the regulation device 20. The or each stop tab 46 extends vertically from the airflow duct wall 66. Each stop tab 46 may extend substantially perpendicularly relative to the duct wall 66. The duct wall 66 and each associated stop tab 46 are integral.

[0084] The rupture zone 44 comprises a rupture plane 68. The rupture zone 44 forms a rupture loop. The rupture plane 68 is a geometric plane. The rupture plane 68 may be a mean plane of said rupture loop. The or each stop tab 46 is parallel to said rupture plane 68, preferably coplanar with the rupture plane 68. These aspects optimize compactness and rupture control.

[0085] In detail, the at least one stop tab 46 comprises at least one upper stop tab 70 above the pivoting blades (not shown), and at least one lower stop tab 72 below the pivoting blades. Each upper stop tab 70 and each lower stop tab 72 are respectively above and below the pipe wall 66. The at least one upper stop tab 70 is parallel to the at least one lower stop tab 72.

[0086] [Fig. 6] shows an enlargement of a portion of frame 30 of a motor vehicle control device. The motor vehicle corresponds to that presented in relation to one of figures 1 to 5. The enlargement focuses on the rupture zone 44 shown in section.

[0087] A stop tab 46 is shown between the front section 40 and the rear section 42. In this case, the stop tab 46 is an upper stop tab 70.

[0088] The frame comprises a bent zone 74. The rupture zone 44 is arranged in the bent zone 74. The bent zone 74 comprises at least two vertically offset bends. In the event of a front impact, the rupture zone 44 intersects between the two bends. At least one or each stop tab 46 is adjacent to the bent zone 74. At least one or each stop tab 46 is flush with the rupture zone 44. It is longitudinally at the rupture zone 44. The stop tab 46 vertically extends the bent zone 74.

[0089] The rupture zone 44 comprises a thinning of at least 0.50 mm, preferably at least 0.70 mm. For example, the frame 30 has a thickness of 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm. The rupture zone 44 comprises a minimum thickness of between 1.00 mm and 2.00 mm. The rupture zone 44 comprises a rib 76 extending rearwardly towards the stop tab 46. The bottom of the rib 76 is the location for measuring the minimum thickness of the rupture zone 44.

[0090] According to a preferred embodiment, the frame is made of a plastic material. The plastic material may comprise a thermoplastic material or a thermosetting material. According to a preferred embodiment, the plastic material is selected from the group comprising polypropylene, polyamide, polyphthalamide, polyetheretherketone, polyphenylene sulfide, polyamide-imide, polyetherimide, polyarylamide, polyepoxide, unsaturated polyester, vinylester or polyester-vinylester resins.

[0091] The invention comprises the combination of all the embodiments shown by all the figures.

[0092] Figures 2 to 6 are isometric views. They each respect a specific scale and specific ratios.
