AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing methods are insufficiently precise in determining the direction of the cooling air flow in turbomachines due to complex geometry and low pressure differences at low turbomachine speeds, which can lead to inaccurate detection of flow reversals.

Method used

The proposed solution involves analyzing the gas flow in the cooling circuit to detect the presence of chemical compounds, which indicates a reversal in the gas flow direction. This is achieved by capturing gas at multiple locations within the turbomachine's gas circuit and comparing its composition to that of the ambient gas.

Benefits of technology

This method allows for precise determination of gas flow direction, enabling the detection of flow reversals and ensuring proper operation of the turbomachine by preventing oil drainage into unauthorized areas.

Abstract

Method and system for detecting a gas flow reversal in a turbomachine gas circuit. One aspect of the invention relates to a method for detecting a gas flow reversal in a gas circuit (100) of a turbomachine, in which a main gas flow (F1, F12) occurs between an inlet (110) of the gas circuit and an outlet (120) of said gas circuit. The method comprises an operation for detecting the presence of at least one chemical compound in the gas flowing in said gas circuit, by capturing the gas in the gas circuit at at least one location of said gas circuit, analyzing this captured gas (F13), and comparing the compositions of the captured gas (F13) and an ambient gas (F1) supplying the turbomachine. Another aspect of the invention relates to a system for detecting a gas flow reversal to implement this method. Figure to be published with the abstract: Figure 3
